So… we ended up here because a storm closed the hotel where we had reservations. this property has a lot of potential and it is working toward being a solid hotel. Our group had 3 rooms and they were all extremely different. Room number 2 was very nice and I would give it 5 stars for decor, cleanliness, and atmosphere. Room 3 was a step down - the difference was the decor. Room 11 was bad - like pre-renovation. Furniture, bathroom fixtures, carpet, everything needed to be replaced - the bathroom was barely functional and it was so rundown that it felt unclean. I spoke with the “front desk” and it sounds like the hotel was recently purchased and they are starting renovations.
Room was very cold you could feel air blowing in around windows. Bathroom was so small nowhere to sit anything. Not very sound proof. Carpet needs a good cleaning. Bed was comfy and we asked for an extra pillow and they did bring us two. Very rundown building and area outside not the cleanest. Had to carry luggage up about 40steps
Staff was polite. The dinner was very expensive and did not live up to expectations. Dinner service was not attentive. No mixed drinks available. Very limited whisky offerings. The room was ok, but there was no way to shut off the bathroom fan, so it was going all night. The chairs in the room are very well worn and uncomfortable. On our second day, a storm came through and no power and hot water was available for over 14 hours. The front desk was not going to refund the last night as we were not going to stay without heat, lights, hot water or restaurant available( there wasn’t anywhere else to eat and no fridge in the room). My husband had quite the conversation with them before they relented and refunded the last night.
The power went out but the kitchen remained open. Everyone did the best they could do and stepped up under the circumstances. Candle became very useful.
Friendly staff great veiws
The manager and staff were excellent. Caring and kind. The Chef made very good soups and entrees. The cleanliness needs some TLC. Attention to detail The view from our room overlooking the Loch was amazing!
The condition of this property was so dated, the room we booked did not represent the photos. The bathroom was so dated, only a hand held shower. Decor was very poor and im sure we heard a mouse scurrying around in the night. Definitely not luxury rooms sadly
Nice location, great Loch view Cold room, need more
why is this place even open, driving up to it it looks terrible, old run down food truck serving food in the driveway, inside no staff, floors ceiling and walls shabby and dirty, the room was a cubby hole missmatch and the stink of damp and mould was overwhelming, it was late so slept on top of the bed, i didnt dare use the shower or taps, i told the owner in the morning i would not stay the next night and wanted a refund for the 2nd night, he said ok but of course now he says no and expedia is no help the kitchen appliances and rubbish were dumped in the parking spots, dont have the words to convey haw bad it is DONT STAY HERE WHATEVER YOU DO
The view was nice. There is some mold on the stone in the bathroom wall that needs cleaned up. The people were great. The food was fair compared to the other places we’re staying.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Possibly the worst hotel room that I have ever stayed in. Broken window with rain coming in. The noise from the rain was so loud that I had to have the radio on all night. The wall paper is peeling off the walls and the room smells damp. There was no plug for the sink and the cold water tap was not fixed to the basin. Just horrible and depressing. The pictures used on Hotels.com are misleading. Do not stay at this hotel.
Dining was not that’s great
The view of the loch is lovely but the room was terrible. I booked this place based on a few reviews and wish I hadn’t. It was not worth the money at all. The bathroom door didn’t close all the way, we couldn’t drain the bathtub, the mattresses are OLD, you could feel springs in them and everything was dingy. Would not recommend this place at all. We did not eat there so can’t rate the quality of that.
This property was not as described. Far from luxury rooms. Carpets were dirty, holes in bathroom walls, sink tap broken, not all lights were working in the bathroom, tv didn’t work, walls and baseboards weren’t very clean. When I asked for 2 extra pillows the manager rolled his eyes. The dinner left a lot to be desired. Could hear pipes and noises from room above. After complaining about the conditions we were moved to another room that was not much better, the chairs in the sitting area both had tattered arms. No light above sink. I wouldn’t recommend this Lodge to anyone. New owners since March so I’m not sure where the rave reviews came from. The sitting rooms downstairs off the lobby were the only parts of the lodge that looked proper.
The room and bathroom weren't that clean, the room smelled, there was garbage in the parking lot.
Nice place, would recommend.
Great restaurant, lovely views, weak WiFi signal in my room.
Great location with great views and within striking distance of Glencoe.
No stars should be the rating. Terrible hygiene. Filthy brown water coming out of taps. Food was bad. Unsafe uncooked seafood. Stinking rotten fish. Electric sockets unsafe. TVs not working in most rooms. No action taken to rectify by staff.
It is in dire need of refurbishment. TV did not work, no towel rail, cold water basin tap did not work, shower very poor. Bedroom doors on strong springs, difficult to open and bang shut on closing. Disappointing as lovely location and great views.
Upon arrival, several issues were immediately apparent: • The room and common areas were unclean, poorly maintained, and had a strong unpleasant smell. • Furniture and carpets were badly stained, and overall hygiene appeared neglected. • Electrical appliances in the room appeared either unchecked or last tested over five years ago, according to the tags. • The water from the taps was brown and discoloured, which raised serious hygiene concerns. The manager said it was because the water came from the mountains! • The taps were poorly fitted, causing leaks and poor water pressure. • The shower was nearly unusable, with extreme temperature swings between freezing cold and dangerously hot. • Additionally, the manager was rarely present at reception, and when available, was unable to provide any useful information about the local area, which made our stay more difficult. These conditions made for a very poor and unsafe experience — certainly not in line with the price paid or the hotel’s advertised standards. Had these issues been disclosed in advance, I would not have booked this property.
Attractive property, especially the dining and lounge areas. Recently acquired and will be better as renovations take place. Wi Fi could be better although strong signal can be expected in common and dining area.
No
good quiet location next to the loch but thats it.shower inadequate and hard to operate.toilet not fixed to floor.smell of damp.sink blocked.bi fold door to toilet hard to close or open.very dated and scruffy.they have obviously been burning rubbish(including a mattress) outside, under our room.rubbish spewing out of the bins which the gulls were taking full advantage of and spreading everywhere.definitely wouldnt stay here again
Super convenient
The view was wonderful, room clean, and bed comfortable. The place is a bit run down, which is not a big deal to us. But, there was no wifi and, more importantly, there was a sign in the bathroom saying DO NOT FLUSH TOILET PAPER and asking that it be placed in a specially-provided closed trash can.
Everything was perfect! The gentleman at the front desk was fantastic and very warm.
Very pleasant
the shower in the bathroom was badly fitted and fell apart when trying to move the shower head .the room was dusty and needed a good clean.as we were only using the room for sleeping the standard was acceptable but could be improved
Great location, good breakfast.
We were running late for check in. They were very understanding and kind to us. The room had a beautiful view and amazing bathroom. Just could have done with a blind in the bathroom window.
Quaint place on our stop prior to heading to Orkney by car ferry! Extra nice customer service and fantastic breakfast
Beautiful location, spacious clean rooms
The foyer and room were unclean and we chose to stay elsewhere.
Me and my friend booked this hotel for 3 nights to do exploring in the area! I booked a double economy room with no loch view at a very reasonable priec. When we arrived we were checked in by a very helpful and friendly member of staff who kimdly upgraded us at no extra cost to a loch view room with 2 double beds in it! Which was also a huge room! The room was out of this world, the views were to die for, the beds were so comfortable and we had a large tv. The room was clean with tea and coffee facilities. All of the staff at the hotel are super friendly and cannot do enough to help you. There are picnic benches outside the hotel to sit and enjoy the view. The only thing we felt was lacking was a bar area to sit at. We would definitely stay here again
Friendly staff, and we were upgraded ! Great view of the loch. Road was a bit noisy at times, not bad though. Stayed only a night. Would stay again.
This hotel stay was the worst experience I’ve ever had when staying at a hotel. Arrived 1400 early to check in which was 1500. We walked into a smelly, dirty and miserable reception area which wasn’t manned and we found ourselves waiting awkwardly for staff. After the staff came we explained we were early and asked for a drink while we wait. However unlike the advert says there isn’t actually a bar or a lounge, we were taken through to the dining room to be served a beer and a bottle of cider which we had to request a bottle opener and a glass for. We were then ushered out and told we couldn’t check in for another hour. Upon check in at 1500 we were again waiting for staff to appear, we were given the keys to our room, when we opened the door to our room we were greeted by the smell of damp and could clearly see mold all down the wall above the bed and in the bathroom. We tried to find staff to report this to but again they were nowhere to be seen. We left the place as we couldn’t sit in a damp room and went for a drink and a bite to eat elsewhere. Upon returning we managed to see a member of staff so I requested a new room due to mold and damp, they tried telling me it wasn’t mold or damp rather than apologise. They were totally unhelpful. Eventually I received a new room on a corridor with a carpet that was covered in mold. The room was okay however a few things like handles and taps were broken. We left 6am the next morning.
it was closed. Had no plumbing and we wasnt told.
Bathroom taps were very worn and unable to use. Bed was extremely uncomfortable, could feel the springs. Bed frame headboard was broken and hit the wall every time we moved.
Beautiful hotel with a great view. Kind and friendly staff. Excellent restaurant. One of my favorite places to stay
Beautiful views of the mountains and lock from my room! Staff was super friendly and very accommodating. Plenty of free parking. Restaurant right on site. Free wifi. Close to Fort William.
A bit shabby but the friendly, helpful staff more than made up for this.
The staff was so wonderful and friendly. My only complaint would be the shower hard to manage. Otherwise had a fantastic stay
A lovely spot in Glencoe! I was extremely happy our host even offered to upgrade our room! Incredible views and friendly service. Thank you for the incredible stay, I hope to stay here again and further explore the area! Big thanks from your Canadian Guest!
Beautiful location right across from a Loch. Large hotel building with a dine in option and bar at the facility
Lovely room. Staff so helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
Very nice stay! Lovely room with a view.
No one on reception when I arrived, room smelt damp, mould in the shower cubicle, shower cubicle doors didn’t shut properly, no soap in the soap dispensers, sink plug didn’t allow water to run away properly, shower tray filled with water when having a shower, bathroom door handle was laid on the floor, and toilet so close to the shower you had to ride side saddle.
Very good property which matched it’s description
This is an outrageously inadequate hotel. It is unwelcoming, with a pathetic bar, poor restaurant and unloved rooms with uncomfortable beds. At £175 a night it is an absolute joke. Oh, and no soda in the bathroom and then sink was blocked. Avoid it.
Good staff, lovely view. Hotel is a little shabby, and over priced for what it is. Would only recommend if it was cheaper and if you really wanted the good view.
Ok
Nice location, easy access, very large room and bathroom. Fresh towels. Restaurant is good. Very friendly staff. Mattress is a bit old.
Friendly staff, good food, very nice stay.
The staff were very helpful and happy to assist.
Hotel room v ropey, although views amazing. Cheap bedding and a very old bathroom with no shower attachment! No plug chain. O/f furnishings. DownstIrs loos no soap or loo roll and mouldy floor/wall. V nice staff, but not enough of them. Other rooms looked better, so maybe we were unlucky but expensive for what we had, even though we were paying high season prices.
I was really disappointed in this hotel. When we walked in to check in, it was seriously creepy- no lights were on and no one was around, and the hallway leading to our room was giving the shining hotel vibes. There were crumpled up dirty towels in our room and garbage littered throughout. Lodge on the loch needs some serious updating.
The place was beautiful with gorgeous views of the Loch. There's a restaurant on the premises and free parking.
Nice room with beautiful shower
We had room 14 and it was very nice . Staff was helpful but a little short staffed, not there fault. Room was clean, pretty and was a nice surprise! I spent $300 and got much less so was happy. One thing I did not like was the water kept changing from warm to freezing in the shower. Also was asked not to toss toilet paper down the toilet out in a waste can which I found very odd . Other than that it was fine .
Great stay very welcoming host really enjoyed the location and the room was fantastic.
We arrived after delays at 9pm after phoning ahead to let them know... the chef did fantastic plates of pasta, all the tastier for being back in the warm after a too-long journey! Bedroom was decent, if old - took a bit to warm up the room (we arrived when it was already well dark) but after that, no real complaints. Really appreciate the efforts of the staff to make our stay welcome.
Nice property with beautiful view. Good food and friendly staff
An odd experience. Room was clean with a nice view, but lacked basics like extra pillows and maybe some biscuits. Service rather cold and minimal, not exactly welcoming. We were shown a restaurant menu but it looked poor and there was nobody else dining, so we went out for pizza. Nobody offered us breakfast. No outside lighting despite dark night. Nobody at checkout when we left next day, then exited the place into a cloud of toxic smoke: the staff were burning beds on the front lawn. What?! I'm a Highlander and believe in Highland hospitality. It's clear to me that a lot of Highland hotels are getting bought up cheaply by people from outside the area who haven't a clue how to run them. Beware. Hospitable it was not.
Friendly staff. Views from our room, where stunning! Huge room, with huge bathroom, with super big bath.
Building is in an excellent location with a stunning view, gardens are overgrown , signage is faded rooms are sparse but clean. The building was cold and the internal reception lights were switched off, looked like it was closed.
We ordered Salmon for dinner , the potatoes were hard. The only draught beer on tap was Guinness. The lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful.
We booked a cheaper room with a mountain view. Instead we received a wonderful view of the loch. It was a real highlight. The hotel itself is very dated and has major retirement home vibes. That said, I enjoyed it a lot! The bath was massive and had a button to start the jets… however it didn’t work which was a big disappointment. By far the worst part was all the noise from the other rooms! You could hear word perfectly what other guests were talking about and the moment those above you woke up… so did you because of all the noise! If you’re a heavy sleeper, then you’ll be fine and you’ll probably love the views!!!
We had trouble finding it because of cell phone and gps issues.
SPECTACULAR. Absolutely SPECTACULAR in every way. The owner and brother are WONDERFUL people. The view is incredible. We had 2 rooms and they were both absolutely the best. Artfully constructed and decorated. Everything was beautiful and lovely. In my room, I could see the view of the lake while taking a shower. So clever the way they designed this. I hope fate returns me to this beautiful slice of heaven.
This hotel was so bad that we left without staying even though we had paid.
Beautiful views, lovely room with a view, friendly staff both at reception, Brazilian and at restaurant, Hungarian..... The only thing that was annoying was that the neighbours snored all night. It's unthinkable that a hotel owner can refurbish rooms so beautiful ly but not sound proof the walls. Otherwise wonderful. Dr David Chew OBE
Bit tired and run down ... More of a youth hostel feel to it .. Big bedroom with terrific views and big bath tub , probably it's best saving grace. Would not recommend or go back again
When we arrived and when we were leaving no one was at the reception and we didn’t get the room service.
Location of lodge in stunning, view from front windows are amazing. Hotel needs to be refreshed, rooms, hall, lounge look very outdated. At the same time hotel in general is clean. Food is rather average, and would recommend restaurant in Balachulish The Laroch for a dinner.
Very comfortable large, spacious rooms with amazing views over the loch. Customer service went way and beyond expectation. Beautiful location. Could have the fire going in the lounge in the evening. Hotel may be a little 'tired' in places.
Overall a good hotel. Beautiful location, the rooms are fine, although things like the bar and restaurant close very early. The staff were very friendly and were very happy to make a number of changes to the menu in the restaurant to accommodate dietary requirements. It isn’t the most modern hotel but it certainly has character
Location: Google & iphone maps has the wrong location of the hotel. The receptionist even claims that mails by post were sent to the neighbouring houses (one is abandoned shed, the other is an apartment). Otherwise, the view is from our room is GREAT! We can see the lake and the mountains. 5/5! Reception: We called the receptionist to guide our way, and he was friendly enough to assist us. The check-in was smooth and he was able to accommodate our request to place us in a ground floor since we have big luggages. Hotel: The hotel is lovely! Cozy reception area. Two lounge for book reading with a view, another lounge with a couch and fireplace for drinking or chilling during the night. We did not avail breakfast but the restaurant looks nice and meal charged at £15 per person. Room: HUGE! Worth the price! Clean and cozy. There is a big window from floor to ceiling so we can see the lake and the mountains. The bed is huge and comfy. The room is chilly at first since the heating was just turned on when we came. There are two la-z boy chairs where we can recline and relax. One double bed and single bed is in the room. It contains a private bath with towels, shampoo and body wash. Hot water works fine. Cr gets really chilly since there is no heating inside. No slippers were provided, and the floor is cold, it’s a good thing that we have slippers with us. Overall: 5/5. Will definitely come back and request for the same room.
I went on a trip with my 2 year old son and this hotel was not suitable at all. From the lack of any kids menu for dinner to the dirty looks looks from staff while my son was getting impatient waiting for food. When I went to book dinner I was asked if I would be bringing my son down with me (I certainly wasn't going to be leaving him in the room on his own). The room itself was large and comfortable and good value for money but definately not kid friendly.
Very short notice booking. Staff were friendly and efficient. Nice views.
It was a a nice room but the wi-fi was almost non existent and there was no breakfast included. We had one meal there. I was hungry from a days walking so I ate it. They didn't ask if the food was OK until we went to pay. I commented the Lasagne was the worst I'd ever had. The waitress said I was wrong. It was the best!!!!
the good points, the room was large clean with spectacular views, some of the fittings were looking a bit dated but overall we were pleased, the staff were friendly and helpful The food was ok, but we`ve had better (and worse :)) The biggest negative was the exterior appearance it made the place look shabby, so a bit of gardening and general tidying would be nice, overall though we would go back
Great view of the Loch and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this for a two day stopover.
The welcome at the hotel was not too professional and we found our room very cold. We managed to warm it up somewhat after a few hours. The food was ok but the surroundings not inspiring. The price of the room was high at £109 and this didn't include breakfast. We did not stay for breakfast
Slightly overpriced. Luke warm reception. Tired looking hotel. Dodgey wi-fi. Noisy and chilly room. Fantastic views. Big bath although spa feature not working.
If you are happy with the bar closing at 9pm and you don’t mind children playing football in the reception and you don’t mind the dining room floor swept up from the night before. Finally paying £170 per night for a couple then is ok for you. More like a 2 star back packers hotel needs a good refresher in decor but the room was clean.
The hotel is very dated and worn. Our Loch View room did have an amazing view but the room itself was very bare and needed redecoration. The beds were very uncomfortable. Both mattresses were saggy and the springs had gone. Food was ok and water for a shower hot. Staff were friendly. It is very expensive for what it is. I would expect a comfortable bed at the very least!
Lovely stay. The hotel does seem to need a bit of a refresh (lick of paint or some new carpet/lighting here and there) but overall it was great. Our room was really really big, had an amazing view of the loch.
This hotel is well-located with beautiful views. Our room was a little shabby, and there were a few bugs, but it was comfortable enough for one night. Unfortunately the bar closed at 9.40pm, which we found slightly early for a Saturday night, so might be worth considering, depending on your plans!
We had a Loch View Bedroom and the view was stunning. The room was big, clean, but very basic. The bathroom was big and clean but appeared to have been refurbished by the local DIY hobbyist. The foyer entrance looked like it hadn't been updated since the 1980's and the restaurant was the same. Photos on the walls looked like they had been cut from a magazine in the 80's with typewritten (and yes I mean typewritten) by a child doing a school project. They were sticky taped to the frames (not even straight). The Restaurant was basically pub grub (and I don't mean gastro-pub) even to the point that salt and pepper were in paper sachets. Fine for a local pub, not really the standard I would have expected in a quite expensive hotel (ie £160 per night). This was the most expensive hotel we stayed in over a 2 week road trip around Scotland and was the worst by a long shot. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review on anywhere I've stayed.
Loved our stay and our room had a great view of the Loch! Clean, comfortable and spacious. Staff were respectful and professional. Would certainly stay there again!
Great one night stay. Friendly staff, good food
We have stayed at this hotel a few times now and love the location. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We had a problem with the tv but they fixed it straight away. No problems.
Amazing place, food was lovely and beautiful view of the loch :) only bad thing was when we got there there was a really big clump of black hair just in the toilet meaning it hadn’t been properly cleaned. Other than that the stay was really nice
Staff were really friendly. Only negative points were the cleanliness of the room. Bed covers had marks on them, there were hairs in the bathroom and there wasn’t a hair dryer in the room. Also there was a bath but no tap to fill it which was very peculiar.
Prestations et personnel très bien
A beautiful position and a nice clean room. Gorgeous views while enjoying a glass of wine in the lounge. Great service and food. The only negative was that breakfast wasn’t included in the price.
I like the view of the room.
Great spot, away from the busier parts. Great Loch views and really good food.
