The rooms were lovely. It was in a great location with great walk for the dog - we had a really enjoyable evening in the restaurant with good food and a very welcome atmosphere with the dog. The car charger was also an excellent convenience. It was a great experience overall
It was in a good location for all places we wanted to visit. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good choice of breakfasts and on meal menu in restaurant. Plenty of parking at side of building.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location for where we needed to be. Plenty of free parking. This is a pub with rooms, which works fine. We had a very good evening meal . Room was comfortable. Water and tea making facilities . Small but modern and clean bathroom.
They nearly get everything right and these comments are meant to be constructive : Wi-Fi was not great and you had to keep re logging in. TV kept dropping out probably for same reason. The breakfast was generally very good, but poached eggs very underdone (easily rectifiable) . Tea pot was only half full and then you are charged a further £3.50 for a refill! Same applied to toast. With the full english already at £16.50 this a bit ott. There was a quizz night going on during our dinner, which was a bit strange, but staff were perfectly apologetic and it was actually quite amusing. The above comments would certainly not put me off staying again
The staff were kind and helpful.
I didn’t enjoy my evening meal, (vegetarian curry) undercooked and poor value for money. Breakfast was unremarkable.
Well maintained and charming
I think it was perfect
Clean, friendly.
Dated TV + poor internet connection
The room was excellent and very comfortable. The staff were welcoming, professional, and helpful throughout our stay. The location, so close to Harrogate and Wetherby is excellent.
I had already paid for breakfast through Booking.com; however, I was subsequently charged an additional breakfast bill of £112. It was not clear why this charge had been applied, as I understood breakfast to have been included in my original booking.
The room was luxurious and location was good. Had a nice meal in the restaurant, all the staff were friendly and a really happy
Everything was good
Mostly the staff, also the food was excellent
The location
Staff helpful and very pleasant. Breakfast excellent.
Food in the main restaurant poor. Luke warm and dry, chips burned. Did feed back to staff who apologised and informed chef. Reimbursed. Rooms comfortable although some remedial work required.
Lovely staff, great location, super clean and modern!
Nothing - loved it!
Location for my needs
Cold water in taps was hot , had to run it for 10 minutes to get anywhere near cold, room lock was difficult to lock and open, room was warm even with window open.
Lovely location with great bar and restaurant. Rooms were great size . Loved the fact that windows in bedrooms opened!
Very clean and beautiful interior around the public areas. My room was nice enough. Coffee was nice as a cafetière was supplied but no milk. The toiletries supplied were very luxurious smelling and the shower worked well. Overall the room was spotless and satisfactory.
Bed was a little too hard but managed to sleep. Heard a lot of doors banging but is expected as it’s an older property. No milk was supplied for my morning coffee although when I asked a flask of milk was supplied. No where to hang towels or dressing gowns in bathroom, a simple hook could fix this. Tv only had basic channels no free view.
Good location. Lovely place and friendly staff.
Facilities were ok but no milk with the tea and coffee and was too late at night before we realised. It was a small point. Internet isnt good, phone signal is poor and the TV signal was not good. Again small points but would cause irritation if we stayed more than one night. Easy fixes however
Friendly, clean and reasonable price.
Room was a bit on the small. Side but very clean and comfortable.
In a village setting yet still within easy reach of major road networks.
Bedrooms on front of property were subject to constant traffic noise as the property sat on a busy road junction. Bar area was ‘down at heel’ beer stained carpets and fraying upholstery. En suite had a shower with virtually no screen as you’d have in a wet room however it wasn’t a wet room?! I witnessed a rodent run across the dining room floor and disappear through a hole in the floor.
The breakfast was different but the fruit granola was excellent. We didn't need anything more to eat as it was so hot, but if it had been winter, I would have liked the offer of some toast and marmalade. The welcome was excellent and we were given help with our luggage up to the room. All the waitress staff were very friendly and efficient.
The location was on a main road which our bedroom looked onto. As it was one of the hottest nights of the year, we slept with our window open so we didn't get as nuchal sleep as we would have liked owing to more traffic passing by overnight than we anticipated. Next time we stay there, we'll book a room on the other side of the hotel.
Everything
Loved the hotel - so peaceful and the rooms were lovely. Adored the bath. Dinner in the restaurant was stunning!
I arrived just in time to order a light evening meal. It was nice.
Nothing
Wonderful old inn with beautiful rooms.
We expected the drinks to be expensive in the bar of such a nice hotel, but what was unacceptable was the quality of some of the food. At £20 the fish pie seemed a fair price, until it arrived. It’s dish was the diameter of a saucer and barely an inch deep, including the mashed potato. Inside the ‘pie’ the only trace of fish were splinter sized particles in a dried up sauce. At breakfast my wife ordered poached egg on toast - it comprised of one small, dry piece of sourdough with two over-cooked eggs. At £12 really not amused. We were going to come back next time around when we first saw the lovely bedroom, but felt duped by the obvious profiteering with their food.
Staff lovely, very helpful, food was brilliant, the homemade chips are to die for, garden was a lovely area for relaxing ,we enjoyed sitting in the sun having a quiet drink with our meal
Room was a little stuffy, could do with air con,not very good tv channels, couldn’t even find the basic bbc, itv, channels 4&5 ,I know you don’t go away to watch tv but it’s nice to have the option, breakfast was lovely but would have liked the option of a pastry and to be served breakfast in the garden
lovely place
Cosy , beautiful inside and out . Staff very friendly and helpful . So happy extended our stay for further two nights . Lovely base point to go off exploring. Rooms beautiful and clean . Food is outstanding. Would highly recommend to all
Nothing to not like
Lovely venue, comfortable stay, plenty of parking. Nice menu.
Dogs in the restaurant.
Really nice room with en-suite, great food and friendly staff
Great
Nothing
Lovely little hotel and restaurant. Our stay was comfortable in a spacious room with lovely extra touches. We had lunch and breakfast at the restaurant which were both excellent.
It was clean and staff very friendly. The food was lovely and location was perfect for us.
The shower was very very small with no door. So the floor was always wet through . The room we had was not in the best position in the hotel as it overlooked the roof of the kitchen.
Nice room, good food and a lovely beer garden, staff were super friendly and helpful
Friendly staff
Lovely well kept inn with a spacious restaurant, bar and outdoor area. The village itself is beautiful, the inn is within a short walk of the castle. Staff were very helpful and polite, the room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Despite being on the main road through the village, it wasn't noisy at all.
Preferirei una colazione a buffet, come avveniva prima
I stayed one night dinner was excellent
A very short stay no comment
Lovely pub with rooms very helpful staff excellent breakfast
Room a bit warm overnight
Decor of the hotel was good, staff very friendly and hospitable food was good value for money
WiFi coverage was pretty hopeless
A lovely old building, comfortable rooms and a nice atmosphere.
No air conditioning. No black pudding with the cooked breakfast!!
Great location. Superb staff. Really good rooms.
Despite there being 2 fans in the room the heatwave made the room warm but NOT to the detriment of being able to get a comfortable nights sleep
staff were attentive.
the room carpet badly marked. the Sunday roast was poor. not good value.
The staff were very polite and helpful, the room was nice and clean and had everything we needed
It was a bit noisy because we were on the road side
Very comfortable room and lovely food.
The only negative was the traffic noise from about 6am. It was during the Yorkshire show so it may have been busier than normal.
It was in the right place for us to get to Harrogate. It’s in a nice little village and the owners spent a lot on the decorations to make it comfortable and a pleasure to stay in. The menu for food was ok but I was hoping for more traditional type of food. But as I say it was nice.
Breakfast was nice but no flakes and things like that or even fruit juices. For what we paid I would have thought the quality would have been better
Lovely property with great room and communal areas! Restaurant area was lovely with an outdoor vibe!
Some issues in the kitchen with long wait for food but the staff were brilliant and really looked after us
Nice place with well set out rooms. Comfortable to stay in.
Service in restaurant poor. We had to ask staff to take our order. My desert never arrive and when I said about it the member of staff just said "oh dear" no sorry and I later realised we had been charged a 10% service charge! Breakfast was also very slow as we had finished our drinks before it arrived.
The staff were incredible and the food was amazing. Location was great and a short walk to the castle which was pretty cool
It was comfortable
They judge myself & husband and said nothing could be charged to the room we stayed 3weeks prior and there was no problem, in the morning the lady who remembered us let us put breakfast on the room so they basically lied
Great rooms and bar and restaurant facilities and very friendly and helpful staff
Nothing
the checkin and welcome was lovely, very efficient. the bedroom was very comfortable, the shower worked well and the bed linen and towel quality was great
Food was excellent. Staff always satisfied any request with a smile on their face.
No complaints.
Always well presented and a good atmosphere
Nothing
There is free parking and plenty of space in the bar and eating areas.
It is an events venue so roomy downstairs. The bedroom was ok but it was hot and we had to open the window, the road is very busy even through the night so was noisy.
Beautiful rooms. The food is good and the staff were so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
Nothing
Lovely stopover for the night with the family and dog. The rooms were really nice and spacious, the staff were super friendly and helpful, plus the village (including the castle) was lovely too. We had dinner and breakfast…all which were great and the prices were good too.
Not a lot of choice for breakfast which was not included. Thought the price for the room was expensive for its location.
Choices for breakfast
Zeer vriendelijk personeel.
Good position for me to visit friends . Staff very friendly . Lovely beer garden .
Room was exceptionally warm ( it was during a heatwave ) with only a fan to try and cool it down . I was unable to open the window very wide as it was low down on to a flat roof . Not ideal when you have a dog who could have climbed out . Food and drink quite pricey .
It was in a beautiful spot and beautifully clean. The staff were very helpful.
Having had two hip operations I found the bed was too hard for me and I didn’t get a good night’s sleep. It would also be good to have a choice of pillows instead of two fat ones as I like my pillows to be thinner.
Beautiful bedroom. Very dog friendly
Nothing
Lovely friendly staff. Busy popular place. Lovely rooms individually decorated. Beds & bedding very comfortable. Lovely to have cafeterias & fresh coffee.
Bathroom a bit small but not a real problem. Felt it was a bit expensive but I guess it’s a tourist area.
Dinner was gorgeous. loved the hotel.
This hotel was a delight, the bed was so comfortable, i have trouble sleeping but had a great night's sleep, the bathroom was amazing too
I liked everything
Location, rooms, dining and staff
Nothing
Great location, interesting village.
Food was very standard fare and quite expensive.
Everything
Fantastic place fantastic staff
Nothing everything was fantastic
Staff in the restaurant were really nice
Not enough shower gel for 2 people
I’ve stayed here many times, it’s convenient, clean, staff a always friendly and pretty good value for money
I would prefer if they put milk in room or had a little fridge, rather than having to collect from reception. Small thing but I used to get smarties in the room with the drinks they haven’t been there last few stays. Also if you are a returner they should be aware of that and can offer a discount, or something nice to make you feel special like a free drink or other small acknowledgment
everything better than expected
Staff friendly, lovely ambience in the pub and the room was perfect.
It was extremely clean and fresh. The staff were all friendly, making you feel welcomed. The food was very tasty and a good selection of beers at the bar. Would fully recommend staying at The Castle Inn.
There was nothing to dislike.
Beautiful rooms and excellent Bedlinen and towels.
Everything! Fabulous room (York), supercomputer bed, quality extras. Lovely bar and outside areas. Never stay anywhere else if up here again.
Breakfast options ok - coffee and fruit juice additional extra cost - staff on arrival very good morning staff 🤔 maybe a little early for happy smiles
Room very very warm and room fan had seen better days - room very good let down a little due to damaged light covers holed
In a great location clean and spacious the food was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and helpful
The bed was very hard
We enjoyed our stay very much. Comfortable rooms and good food in the restaurant.
So friendly and comfortable …. Lovely staff
Nothing
Lovely property, brilliant friendly and welcoming staff, spacious room, big comfy bed with lovely quality bed linen, huge roll top bath, delicious food .
While the bed was really comfy and the bed linen really good quality it was far too hot for the duvet - sheet and blanket option would have been much appreciated for a good nights sleep in this heat wave.
Fresh milk in a thermos to take up to my room for teas and coffee. Fab fresh coffee grounds in the room. Lovely local soaps in the en suite. Great curtains that actually keep out the light. Lovely decor. Very friendly welcome. Just what is needed.
Its a lovely pub .
Television pictures in the bedrooms are terrible un watchable
The property was well kept and maintained. Loved the Orangery for lunch.
The bedding was absolutely beautiful but the duvet was a bit heavy and warm now the weather is not so cold
Warm, clean and very presentable. A comfy bed and a very good Sunday dinner. Staff were friendly. My dog was also made welcome.
Just rotten luck that the kitchen had a gas leak in the morning so there were no hot breakfast items as the kitchen was out of use.
We had three breakfasts at the Hotel and all were excellent. Dinner on one night only also excellent. The room was well furnished and clean with daily changes of towels etc.
Flat roof with vents and skylights was our view from the room.
Very comfortable room with fabulous bath which was very welcome after a long drive. Extremely comfortable bed with high quality bedding and room well thought out with small cafetière with fresh coffee. Visiting a friend in Harrogate Hospital so an easy drive in and out of Harrogate. Would highly recommend
Lovely room, clean and modern. Comfortable bed. Dog fried don’t. . Fresh milk, lovely staff. Find ok. Bath room.
Room was a little small. Only problem was the white blind let the light in during the night. There was a street lamp that shone straight through the window , then at dawn the sun shone straight in ! This did affect my sleep.
There was an event on so the carpark was busy and it was rather noisy. We booked as we were going to the Harrogate Flower Show and didn’t want to drive back to Derbyshire until the next day. We enjoyed the stay and will be booking with you again.
The shower wasn’t great but it did the job. We ended up needing to put towels on the floor.
Definitely a high end Public House , attention to detail across the whole premises. Clean and organised environment. Great location. Deceiving to look at as when you park you can see just how huge the place is . Plenty of seating areas inside and out .
I didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t stay longer .
Reception staff were excellent ,polite and very informative, the flask of fresh milk for the room was a nice touch and the room was well stocked with filter coffee ,tea and sugar ,bed was really comfortable with nice clean linen and towels
We stayed in the York suite. No shower door ,even with towels laid on the floor the bathroom got soaked and became slippery, cleaner said they had complained about it however nothing had been done. Mould and limescale in the kettle ( replaced by staff immediately) mould around the window frame ,dusty headboard studs ,dirty hairbrush left on shelf by a previous customer , breakfast was overpriced
Such a great all round hotel. Cute boutique bedrooms and great restaurant!
Nothing! Everything was perfect.
Service
It was expensive
The age of the building
Nothing
Lovely quiet room, nicely done out. Really friendly staff. The lady on duty actually took me up to my room, not the ‘room above a pub’ vibe. This really is a proper, friendly Inn. Great food, too. Extensive main menu and some really interesting bar snacks, too, if you don’t fancy a full meal. Charcuterie plate, Gordal olives etc. But the absolute cherry on the top is their Timothy Taylor Landlord. My favourite beer in the whole world, and this was the best served. So possibly the pint of my life! 😀 But it just shows the care they take over everything. Stayed twice now, I’ll definitely be back.
Nothing to note
Booked The castle inn last minute to attend an event in nearby wetherby. From arrival to checkout our experience far exceeded our expectations. Beautiful pub in a small village, close to Harrogate and wetherby. The standard of the room was excellent, luxury furnishings, fresh ground coffee, complimentary waters and very comfortable bed and pillows with very welcome blackout blinds all made for a great night's sleep. Calm beer garden, friendly staff. Restaurant and food looked lovely but we didn't eat there. Would definitely recommend, great value.
Small thing but no shower door so make sure bathroom floor clear before you shower
Room was great - really unusual and had everything we needed. The beer garden was lovely. We had breakfast which was really good. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing - all great!
Bright, modern and rural
Very friendly hotel. Food excellent and staff excellent.
Some confusion over price of breakfast but was sorted
