There is a Nespresso machine in reception and you can help yourself to coffee. The living area was great, with a comfy sofa and decent TV. Also a table to comfortably sit and eat at
The second bedroom was part of the main living area, so its not feasible for someone to sleep there unless everyone goes to bed

Reviewed Aug 11, 2026Stanza enorme con 2 letti e 2 futon. Nonostante fossimo 4 adulti non abbiamo avuto problemi di spazi. La nostra camera aveva un balcone sulla riva del fiume che ci ha regalato momenti romantici guandando la luna. Comodissimo per la visita della città, Kyoto stupenda, e per tutte le comodità, dai ristoranti ai negozi alla movida.

El personal de recepción muy atento y amable. El servicio de envío de maletas desde recepción se agradece de verdad.
Como recomendación, incluiría alguna sugerencia o información de restaurantes de la zona que lleve la cena al apartamento por si alguna noche no apetece salir.

The all-in-one washer/dryer stretched out our cottons and did not dry the clothes. We had better luck hanging our clothes on the drying rack next to the de-humidifier. However, it is convenient to be able to wash without going to a laundromat.

Reviewed Jun 28, 2026We loved our stay here. The location was fantastic on a lovely quiet street next to the river with restaurants etc nearby, but also very walkable to the busier areas. We walked to many places we wanted to visit but were also close to train stations and the bus. We had a fantastic river and mountain view. The apartment was large and very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again and feel like we had the best location and view in Kyoto.

Reviewed Jun 15, 2026Spacious property, by far the largest room we had during our trip to Japan. The facilities were clean and comfortable, but some furniture was a little dated. The location is about 15 minutes walk from Gion and the Nisiki Market, but not really accessible to a train station from walking distance with baggage.
Caution: This hotel (like all Kyoto hotels) collects an extra city tax at the time of check in. That tax is now well disclosed on Booking.com and they would only accept cash when we checked in. Be sure to communicate with the property to understand extra taxes before you arrive.

Reviewed Jun 8, 2026מלון דירות בוטיקי על שפת הנהר במיקום מעולה ליד מרכז העיר והשוק. 5 דק הליכה לתחנת אוטובוס קרובה ונוחה. הדירה יפהפיה, ענקית ונוחה עם מטבחון קטנטן אבל מאובזר. הצוות מקסים ודובר אנגלית ושמח לעזור. 2 מיטות זוגיות ופוטון. בטוחה שנחזור להתארח בה כשנגיע שוב לקיוטו.
אין ניקיון לחדר במהלך השהות, היינו 4 לילות וזה קצת חסר. מצד שני יש פינוי אשפה כל יום ואפשרות למגבות נקיות כל יום.

The location was gorgeous, right on the river, plenty of local restaurants, cafes, bars etc in easy walking distance. The breakfast bento boxes were super tasty, and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. Had a lovely balance of modern and traditional styles.
The quantity of breakfast was a little on the small side, though what was there was great.

Reviewed Jun 4, 2026Beautiful surrondings close to Gion and Ponchato Alley is closeby. We enjoyed the views from our room with a river and montains at back ground. The location is perfect and away from the crowds and during night the area becomes even more beautiful with the street lights. We loved walking arround the hotel and it felt safe. Kyoto station is one stop away by train. There are 2 train stations located neary by and Bus stop is around 300m away. We were able to travel easily to other parts of Kyoto easily. Staffs were friendly and helpful.

Reviewed May 30, 2026I really enjoyed my stay at the Kyoto Riverview House Kyoraku! The location is fantastic, on a quiet street next to a pretty little canal, but just a few minutes' walk to the busy downtown in one direction and historic Gion in the other direction, across the Kamo River. I stayed for six nights with two friends in the Superior Apartment, which had a view of our quiet street. We really appreciated the comfortable living room, with its table and couch, for relaxing in the evening after a day of adventures in beautiful Kyoto. My friends stayed in the bedroom with the double bed, and found it very comfortable, and I stayed in the bedroom with the tatami mats, and slept on the futon, and found that very comfortable. It was definitely the most comfortable futon I slept on while visiting Japan. We enjoyed the bathroom, with its spacious shower and bathtub, and appreciated how the apartment was very clean. The washing machine worked well and our clothes dried on the drying rack provided within about 24 hours (the washing machine has a drying cycle, but this is extremely slow, so the staff recommended that it would be faster to use the drying rack while running the dehumidifier nearby). Both the wifi and the air conditioning were reliable. The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend staying at this lovely place!
Be aware that the second bedroom, with the tatami mats, is part of the living room, with sliding wooden walls to separate it from the living room. The wooden walls are a series of wooden bars little gaps in between, so even with the walls closed, it is possible to see a little bit into the second bedroom from the living room, such that the second bedroom lacks the privacy of the main bedroom. This was fine for us, and I found this convertible second bedroom very fun and comfortable, but if you prefer a bedroom with solid walls, you might not like this.

I made an error with our booking, but they accommodated us perfectly, securing an alternative room for the first night and handling the luggage transfer to our original room the next day. Compared to typical tight Tokyo accommodations, these units were quiet, incredibly spacious, and felt very safe with good security doors. Waking up to the refreshing river and mountain views was amazing, and having breakfast delivered to our room each morning was a great touch. Highly recommend!

No room service, but at least you can pick towels from the main lobby whenever you want and emptying your combustibles/recycling was easy enough. But there was not a full mirror, no paper towels, no hooks/racks to place towels you just used, and everything felt a bit cheap. It was nice to have a couch in the hotel though.

Reviewed Mar 8, 2026Great location. English speaking staff. This is a full apartment so you get lots of space and privacy. Great as a home base around the kyoto area as it has a washing machine. Hotel can have luggage forwarded to and staff will help forward luggage to your next stay, which helps a lot!
The clothes dryer ruined some of our clothes.

Reviewed Mar 5, 2026Our room was very stylish, comfortable and spacious. We overlooked the river and had a lovely outdoor terrace in which to relax. The staff were friendly, and super helpful. This was our best stay whilst travelling around Japan!

5박이나 했는데 중간청소 없었고 청소하려면 1층로비에 있는 청소기 가져다가 직접 하라고 안내함?????!!!!!! 강변이라 뷰는 좋은데 위치는 살짝 애매합니다.

Reviewed Dec 26, 2025Our stay was wonderful and we would definitely recommend and also stay again! This is our (my husband and I) 2nd trip to Kyoto and we loved staying here. For those who don't speak any Japanese, the front desk workers (8:30 am - 8:30 pm) speak english fluently. The front desk workers between 8:30pm and 8:30am speak only Japanese (when we were there) but if you need you can definitely use an translating app and you'll be fine. They will also hold you luggage until check in. They can also help arrange luggage transport services should you need. The location is very convenient we could easily walk to Gion, Ninenzaka, Nishiki market, and the Kawaramachi shopping area. Lots of dining options nearby as well. The kitchen and larger than usual refrigerator/freezer was so convenient to be able to shop a grocery stores and make food in room (especially for breakfast). They have condiment and cooking spices downstairs should you need any for your cooking. In room washer/dryer and drying rack to hang clothes is also extremely convenient. I would recommend booking a river view room as it is very nice and relaxing to sit on the balcony and watch the birds as well as people walking their dogs.
I didn't have any issues with anything during our stay. We had a wonderful stay and appreciate the workers who were courteous, helpful, and kind.
