Wunderschönes Boutique-Hotel mit tollem Design und erstklassigem Service, bei dem keine Wünsche offen bleiben und an das wir noch lange zurückdenken werden. Besonders hervorzuheben sind neben den sehr schönen Zimmern die besondere Freundlichkeit des Personals, das tolle Frühstück am Pool mit Blick auf den Strand, die hervorragenden Spa-Behandlungen und das exzellente japanische Restaurant auf der Dachterrasse. Während unseres dreitägigen Aufenthalts in der Off-Season im Sommer war das Preis-Leistungsvermögens super. Absolute Empfehlung!

What a beautiful place so stay thank you for unforgettable three days clean - elegant- and wide space

The music coming from the roof was too loud for those who sleep early

* Very spacious and comfortable room with a large, comfortable bed. * Beautiful ocean views and a lovely balcony. * Very peaceful and quiet at night — being able to hear the waves from the room was one of the highlights. * The property offers a lot of privacy and has a beautiful beachfront setting. * Overall, the service was friendly and good.

* Check-in: I arrived around 9:30 a.m. after an overnight flight and completely understood that early check-in wasn’t guaranteed. However, after being told I had to wait until 2:00 p.m., I was disappointed to still wait another 20 minutes after the official check-in time, especially having had no sleep. * Spa: The 90-minute signature massage cost approximately USD 75. The therapist was good, but the spa itself felt run-down for that price and for a five-star property. The setup/equipment felt dated and the linens had a lingering massage-oil smell. * Cleanliness: Generally clean, but some towels and bed linen had visible marks, and there were drain flies in the bathroom. * Maintenance: The corridor immediately before my room consistently had a foul/wastewater-like smell, although I didn’t notice this elsewhere in the property. * Bathroom privacy: The main balcony blind is automatic, but the bathroom privacy blind is manual. This was fine for me as a solo traveller, but could be a little tedious when sharing the room with family, as the blind needs to be manually lowered and raised each time. * Service: Staff were friendly and service was generally good, but sometimes inconsistent. Breakfast could be quite slow during busy periods. * Overall: These are individually small issues, but together they fell short of what I expected from a highly rated five-star property.

Breakfast was always freshly prepared with so much love, we genuinely loved the variety. During our 15-day stay, we never once felt like we were having the same breakfast twice, which made every morning something to look forward to. But what truly made the experience special was the staff. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were greeted with nothing but genuine smiles, warmth and kindness. This made our stay so special and unforgettable.

We had a lovely stay at RIFF Hikkaduwa! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the hospitality was wonderful. Communication was excellent from the beginning, and the team was always helpful and attentive. The food was delicious, and our room was beautiful, very clean and comfortable. The view from our room was absolutely amazing! 🌊❤️ Thank you to the whole team for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable. We would definitely love to come back!

Japanese restaurant was disappointing

Beautiful design hotel. Even though it wasn’t great weather we were able to enjoy the pool and the beach. Breakfast was great with the best selection in all of our Sri Lanka travels. We particularly liked the healthy bowls. Enjoyed the True Blue restaurant and all staff were good with dietary requirements although it would have been nice if they had some soy or almond milk available. The pool and beach guys were very attentive and also warned us from going in the sea which was nice to know they are looking out for their guests. Nearby we enjoyed the Madu river safari and the tsunami museum.

Had an amazing weekend stay at Riff Hikkaduwa Resort. To start off, the moment we entered the resort we were greeted by Tharushi reception and her smiling face made us feel so welcome. She checked us in promptly and was so happy to have us which goes along way when you’re travelling. We appreciate the warm welcome tremendously because first impressions do matter. Raymond the General Manager ensured that we were comfortable during our stay. We could tell he had a passion for his work and ensuring his guest had the best comfortable weekend. Food at Riff was AMAZING. Executive chef Lahiru - you sir are a genius. Every meal we had was wonderful. Fresh, vibrant flavors, and meticulous presentation. You could tell he put his heart into his cooking. Overall we had a wonderful weekend thanks to the staff and their amazing service. We will definitely be back!

The beetroot cocktail tasted like salad dressing. Get the pina colada. It was the best Pina Colada ive ever had

We got an upgrade to the design suite, which has an amazing view of the beach. The bathtub was very nice and the suite very luxurious. Good food and the spa is nice.

They sometimes knock on the door quite late in the evening to bring extra water. We got the room with a big discount, otherwise it could be very expensive.

The property is so stunning and the staff are so accommodating and lovely.

In off season it is very windy but that doesn’t have anything too do with the property, just the time you decide to go.

Title: A Luxurious Beachfront Escape to End Our Sri Lanka Adventure We chose Riff Hikkaduwa as the final stop of our two-week family journey around Sri Lanka, and it was the perfect place to relax, unwind, and finish an incredible trip. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were somewhere special. The hotel’s design and beachfront location are absolutely stunning. Walking into the lobby, you are immediately greeted by a beautiful modern wooden aesthetic, before your eyes are drawn through to the breathtaking view of the infinity pool overlooking the beach and turquoise ocean beyond. It truly creates that instant feeling of luxury and tranquillity. Our deluxe room was exceptional. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the rainfall shower was amazing, and the thoughtful touches of robes and slippers added to the experience. However, the highlight was opening the automatic blinds each morning to reveal the spectacular ocean view — endless blue water, golden sand, and the sound of the waves right outside. The facilities and food throughout the hotel were outstanding. The rooftop Japanese restaurant served beautifully presented, fresh and flavourful dishes, while the main restaurant offered an excellent breakfast and daily menu with every meal being high quality and delicious. What truly made our stay memorable was the staff. Every single person we interacted with — from the front desk team to the restaurant staff and especially our wonderful pool lifeguard — provided genuine, attentive service. They consistently went above and beyond to ensure every guest felt welcomed, comfortable, and cared for. The beach location is incredible. We enjoyed walking along the coastline to Turtle Beach, where we were lucky enough to see turtles and even baby sharks in the water. Unfortunately, due to visiting during the monsoon season, the ocean conditions meant we couldn’t swim because of the stronger currents and waves. However, this didn’t take away from the experience at all — if anything, it gave us another reason to return and experience this beautiful place during calmer conditions. A huge thank you to the entire team at Riff Hikkaduwa for making our final days in Sri Lanka so special. It was the perfect combination of luxury, relaxation, incredible views, and warm Sri Lankan hospitality. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable beachfront escape.

Great place for sunset drinks on the rooftop!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ RIFF was, without a doubt, the best hotel of my entire Sri Lanka trip. Having stayed in several hotels across the country, RIFF stood out in every possible way. The service was exceptional and genuinely comparable to that of a luxury 5-star hotel — something that is unfortunately quite rare to find in Sri Lanka. Every member of the team was attentive, professional, and truly cared about creating a memorable guest experience. The food was another highlight. Unlike many places that simply imitate international cuisine, RIFF delivers dishes that are genuinely delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The à la carte breakfast was outstanding, with an impressive variety of options, all beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. Every breakfast felt like a treat rather than just another hotel meal. The hotel itself is beautiful, peaceful, and perfectly designed for a relaxing getaway. Everything from the rooms to the facilities reflected great attention to detail. Overall, I had an incredibly pleasant stay and left wishing I had spent more time here. In fact, RIFF is the one place that would make me want to come back to Sri Lanka again. Thank you to the entire team for such a wonderful experience.

The Riff was absolutely incredible! I honestly couldn’t recommend this place more. If you’re considering staying anywhere in Hikkaduwa, it has to be here. The rooms were beautiful and spotless. But what truly made our stay unforgettable was the staff. They were the kindest, most genuine people, always smiling, always happy, they really are the heart of this place. Their energy completely made the experience. The resort is even better than it looks in the photos. We feel so lucky to have found it. I went back and forth between so many places along this stretch of beach because they all looked beautiful online, and I honestly couldn’t decide where to stay. But after multiple walks up and down the beach, it became so clear that Riff was miles above the rest. We visited at the end of May 2026, and were actually quite surprised by how run down many of the other places looked during low season. Meanwhile, Riff was buzzing. It stood out instantly. Lively, well-maintained, and full of great energy. It was by far the best hotel we saw, not just on this beach, but throughout our entire stay in Sri Lanka.

We loved absolutely everything about our stay. But one thing I will mention is that I had seen previous reviews saying you can’t swim in the sea here, which almost put us off booking. But as first-time visitors to Sri Lanka, you quickly realise that this is actually very common – many beaches aren’t safe for swimming due to strong currents. So wherever you stay, you’ll likely come across the same thing. It definitely didn’t take away from our experience at all. We still enjoyed long, beautiful sunset walks along the beach, and most of the time it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves, which was really special.

If you are looking for a peaceful hotel within walking distance of great places to eat, look no further. The Riff gave us a great first experience in Sri Lanka. The hotel was immaculate and welcoming. The staff were amazing and friendly and made every guest feel very special. This boutique hotel is sat right on the beach with an infinity pool looking out over the ocean. The breakfast was good with a nice variety and the roof top bar offered great cocktails. Rooms are as you see in the photos and as all rooms face the sea you should expect the ocean waves as background noise. If I had one recommendation it would be to upgrade the sunbeds on the beach, but that is a minor thing!! Well done to the owner, not only for the property but also for the team that you have put in place. We will be back again.

Everything was perfect! The staff were fantastic, and especially Benisha was absolutely lovely and made our stay unique. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in!

Everything was perfect about this hotel. Their customer service was 10/10! All the staff was very kind and accommodating. Food was superb! They went out of the way to provide a small cake for my husband’s birthday.

The breakfast was exceptional. Authentic Sri Lankan food with a western flare. Both Sri Lankan and western food were delicious. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean.

The location is excellent, with a beautiful beach and a fantastic pool area that is so well looked after by the team. The whole hotel is clean, comfortable and done out aesthetically- it looks exactly like it does in the marketing. The food was also excellent, and the Japanese restaurant upstairs was absolutely delicious. What really makes the hotel special, though, is the staff. Everyone was so friendly, attentive and welcoming. They work incredibly hard and it really shows. A special thank you to Raymond and Benisha for their hospitality and for making us feel so well looked after throughout our stay. It was also great to speak with the owner, Gamini. He was so warm and genuinely cared, and that personal touch helps create such a family feel around the hotel. This was exactly the reset we needed. I would highly recommend Riff Hikkaduwa and we cannot wait to visit again in the near future.

Wow, exceptional boutique hotel, excellent beachfront, very good infinity pool, rooms are very clean, quiet, and modern (TV screen has an issue), dinner was very good, and breakfast was good. The Japanese restaurant is amazing and, above all, has very friendly staff. The one-day trip to the tea plantation was great, and the hotel driver is very pro and friendly. The hotel management is always present and overlooking this amazing boutique hotel; it makes you feel at home.

The Spa facility is not at the same level and did not catch our attention

The open air areas, the views, the pool, direct access to the beach! The customer service was exceptional. The lovely groundsman was a joyful energy to be around.

The gym could do with some love!

Exceptional experience. Gorgeous property and rooms, elegant & sustainable decor, scrumptious food, a to-die-for view, beach steps away and the most welcoming and warm hospitality and service. I hope I can come back again soon.

Die Unterkunft sieht aus, wie auf den Bildern. Wir haben das Hotel geliebt, dass Personal ist sehr hilfsbereit und vorallem Kinderfreundlich. Wir hatten immer einen Platz zum Liegen, am Pool und Strand. Der Strand ist sauber und weitläufig. Wir waren Ende April dort, es war sehr ruhig und hatte weniger Gäste. Aufgrund der Nebensaison. Das Sushi Restaurant auf dem Dach ist fantastisch;) beste Sushi gewesen!!!!!!!! Beim frühstück hatte man eine grosse, gute Auswahl. Da essen war etwas fad, dass war allerdings überall in srilanka so, wo es Western essen gab.

Die Badezimmer haben modrig gerochen.

Location was great!. Beenu was amazing and sorted everything out for us in a timely and efficient manner! All staff were very polite.

Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to swim in the ocean. Also, the lower floor rooms had some mosquitoes but the above floor rooms were great!

I was upgraded to the Junior suite, the view from the room was breathtaking! The staff were beyond accomodating, especially with allowing me to relax in a private room before my evening flight.

Absolutely the best hotel experience in Hikkaduwa. Everyone was incredibly kind, welcoming, and professional from the moment we arrived. The service was exceptional — the staff helped carry our luggage, opened and closed the car doors for us, and paid attention to every little detail that made our stay feel truly luxurious. We were also pleasantly surprised with complimentary wine and a lovely tea gift set, which was such a thoughtful touch. During our stay, we tried dinner at both restaurants — the rooftop restaurant and the downstairs restaurant. The rooftop had breathtaking ocean views, delicious cocktails, and a beautiful atmosphere. The Japanese food was okay tho, but the overall experience and scenery were unforgettable. The beachfront view is stunning, and if you are visiting Hikkaduwa, do not miss the chance to stay here. Highly recommended!

The Riff Hikkaduwa is a lovely boutique hotel set right on the beautiful beachfront of Hikkaduwa. The surrounding area is fairly quiet, with limited shops nearby, which adds to its relaxed atmosphere. It’s approximately a 30-minute drive to Galle for those wanting to explore more. The property itself is small, allowing for a more personalised and attentive level of service. The rooms are stunning—modern in design while still maintaining a laid-back beach aesthetic—and all offer ocean views. We enjoyed dinner on our balcony on the first night, which was a highlight. Breakfast is served à la carte with an extensive selection—far more than we could possibly try in one sitting. Compared to other places we stayed, food and beverages here were the most expensive, as were spa treatments like manicures and pedicures. That said, the food quality was excellent, and the spa staff were wonderful. There are plenty of banana lounges along the beach, although poolside seating is limited, with only about eight chairs available due to space constraints.

We came with friends for lunch and had such a lovely experience. The food was absolutely amazing and everything was so delicious. The staff were fantastic, and a special thank you to Benisha for making our time there even more wonderful with her warm and attentive service. The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel very comfortable throughout our stay. The hotel itself is perfect for a relaxing family getaway, with a clean private beach and a beautiful, well-maintained pool. Overall, an excellent place to spend a few refreshing days. Highly recommended!
