Ryokan tradizionale, grande, pulito e confortevole. Personale molto gentile, cena e colazione top!
Magical place. Very old and historic, but so nicely maintained. Lovely hosts! Best kaiseki dinner of our trip - beautiful presentation, with so many interesting local delicacies and flavors. Special and memorable!
A really friendly welcome and clear instructions . Special mention to Jorges, who was amazing on his first day.
We loved the beautiful gardens — being able to open the screens and sit drinking tea while looking out at the garden was a highlight. So peaceful. The house was entirely private. We enjoyed being shown how to wear the traditional dress and make tea, and the whole stay had an authentic feel for how traditional living once was. The evening meal was exquisite: ten courses of unique dishes that gave us a beautiful introduction to elevated Japanese cuisine. They were also very generous in accommodating our eating preferences, given advance notice. Adding to the authentic experience was sleeping on tatami mats during a major thunderstorm — it felt like we had traveled back 400 years. We were very grateful for the hospitality, including the rides from the train station to the inn and on to Magome the next morning.
The bathrooms were very simple but were certainly clean and perfectly functional.
A beautiful old ryokan. You get your own little house set in the lovely peaceful gardens. The Onsen is lovely and we were given access to a private one for the second day of our stay. The staff are so helpful and provide transport to and from the train station and took us to Magome too so we could hike the Nakasendo trail. The food is delicious but very Japanese
The futon mats take a bit of getting used too. They will provide western pillows if you ask
This was a dream stay. Perfect for a full Japanese culture experience. The meals were way too much for us to consume and super delicious. The hotel shuttle bus to the city was such a privilege. The host and all the staff were unbelievable, we will def be back
Chef bravissimo cibo tipico giapponese buonissimo. Immergersi in un Giappone antico

Sehr ruhig.
Absolutely stunning property. So peaceful. Amazing host who was super accommodating. The best food we have had in Japan!
We had a very comfortable stay ia a charming old renovated cottage cottage. The grounds well kept, the food well prepared and served with a smile and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. It was a great way to start our Nakasendo adventure.
While the overall experience was excellent the onsen was a bit small and enclosed and the general area, while nice, lacked a wow factor.
liked the first hand experience of staying in a 400 year old Japanese ryokan. nothing can bit that history of the old wooden house we stayed. loved that nature surrounds the ryokan. So many trees, beautiful garden, birds chirping, calm and serene atmosphere the dinner and breakfast was superb and we had our personal butler like service. keisaki Japanese food served to perfection TRANSPORTATION was great. a coaster pickup from nakatsugawa station and the coaster also dropped us off to nakasendo trail magome the next day. Perfect base fir nakasendi trail
The onsen for female was nice, surrounded by trees while u soak. However the onsen is so small, Just a little bigger than a jacussi. So it would have been perfect if only 1 guest at a time would use it. I suggest that there be a LOCK so that the next guest can wait outside, or per schedule. When another guest came in while I was at the onsen, the place really felt so "crowded". The onsen is so small , it was meant to be used 1 person at a time. Or a couple at a time. PLEASE CHANGE YOUR PILLOWS. Or give pillow options. The pillows were small and filled with " pebble" like material inside . Maybe that is the pillow in the olden times? Definitely NOT comfortable pillows. We ended up sleeping without a pillows!

L’onsen molto piacevole e rilassante.
the property is very well located, central yet in a very quiet place- it has plenty of charme, love the traditional ryokan style, yet very well maintained. you can see trees from the windows and it’s super peaceful. the staff is super kind and helpful and the food is outstanding! the chef cooks with only local and seasonal ingredients- everything delicious!
It was traditional.
It had a very musty smell and I should have left immediately but I did not want to be rude and had already paid and it isn’t inexpensive. I woke up with a severe reaction to the mold and mildew and feel there should be a disclaimer- had I known I would not have booked.
Waanzinnige locatie, super authentieke ervaring en heel vriendelijk personeel

The Kaiseki evening meal was exceptional
An extra pillow would be good although I am being really picky as I wasn't bothered enough to ask for one
Nagataki does an exceptional job at making you feel like you've gone back in time to Edo era Japan. Their gardens and accommodations are timely, their onsen is exceptional and the food was remarkable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
The price is steep but comparable to similar products in the area for what you are trying to capture. Worth every yen.
Wow, what a magical place! I stayed for one night before doing a portion of the nakasendo trail. Everything was absolutely perfect! They picked me up with a shuttle from Nakatsugawa station and dropped me off in Magome the following morning for the trail. This is a traditional Japanese Ryokan experience and I can’t explain how wonderful everything was. The service was superb, the Onsen was wonderful, and the food was absolutely delicious and there was so much of if! I enjoyed every minute, highly highly recommend!
This was the most amazing Ryokan you can imagine. Houses of 400 years old, in an amazing garden, with an onsen (shared) you can use - you cannot imagine in what kind of paradise this ryokan is located. Highlight of our trip.

Very peaceful and nice place to stay. Property is outside of Nakatsugawa, and transportation to and from the train station was provided. Dinner and breakfast were great! House was comfortable and the public bath was very nice. Very quiet place.
I stayed at 5 accommodations along the Nakasendo trail and this one was far and away the best! The hospitality, food, location, serenity, all of it. I wish I had stayed longer.
Beautiful old traditional Ryokan, in a beautiful Japanese garden setting. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. The host and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed.
Nothing
The property was amazing. There were beautiful trees and flowers on property. You can see the care in all of the landscaping. Nagataki is very authentic. It feels like old Japan as though you are stepping back in time. The staff are extremely attentive. The food was amazing. We got tucked in with clean, comfortable duvets and hot water bottles. I cannot recommend this place enough if you want a relaxing and peaceful escape.
Not a thing.
Authentic, clean, quiet, comfortable
Geweldige ervaring in een prachtige traditionele setting, enorm behulpzaam personeel.
It is beyond beautiful and peaceful and now a requirement for when I visit. I was lucky enough to find it last year and I made certain I came again this year. The staff are amazing and the best meals made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. They make you feel special and amazingly taken care of.
Beautiful, peaceful, clean, and amazing kindness
We love how quiet the location is. The autumn leaves were also amazing to see. The chef and the staff were very nice and made us feel very comfortable. The food was exquisite and very memorable. They also made the place cost and warm as the temperature gets colder.
Nagataki was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The hotel arranged a taxi service from the station, which was incredibly helpful and made our arrival completely stress-free. The moment we stepped onto the property, we felt like we had traveled back in time. The houses are beautifully preserved and full of character, with details that make you slow down and appreciate the craftsmanship. Walking through the grounds felt like being inside a living piece of history, yet everything was impeccably maintained and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were absolutely incredible. Each meal was prepared with so much care, and every dish felt thoughtful and balanced. It was one of those rare dining experiences where you’re reminded of how special traditional Japanese cuisine can be when done with genuine skill and passion. What truly made our stay exceptional, though, was the service. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. They made us feel welcomed in a way that felt heartfelt rather than formal, and their hospitality elevated the entire stay. Staying at Nagataki was peaceful, memorable, and deeply charming — the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave. Thank you, Yoshida-san and the Team!
I think a cozier lighting would make our evening better! The lamps are a bit too bright and have cold colour. A small lamp in the corner with warm lightbulb would make this an even better experience.
Wonderful hospitality and beautiful grounds. Truly a fantastic experience all around. The staff were so kind and both breakfast and dinner were delicious!
Great hospitality, lovely place, staff is amazing. Food is just superb. Loved everything about this place
The staff were so lovely. The experience was very unique. Gardens were beautifully maintained. Clean but traditional. Generous quantities of food and a very lovely dining experience. . All the services such as the bus pick up etc very appreciated.
The beds are traditional as are pillows but not super comfortable.
Beautiful, historic, traditional accommodation surrounded by gardens, staying in individual houses with their own dining room and bathroom. Just stunningly authentic. There was a shuttle bus to Nakatsugawa station in the morning. Dinner and breakfast are included and served in you own traditional villa. An experience from start to finish. Beautiful food, plentiful and delicious. Stunning place!
We loved it all !
EXCEPTIONAL!!! Staff were extremely helpful Environment was amazing. Wonderful to stay in a traditional home. Bed very comfortable. Onsen lovely. Food OUTSTANDING. Thank you for a fabulous stay and also for picking me up from the station, assisting with transport to the start of my hike and with luggage transfer to my next accomodation. A very special place and team.
I loved ALL of it!
We had an incredible time here. Exceptional food, beautiful surroundings and everyone was incredibly welcoming and kind. The onsen was also lovely.
Everything. Staying in a +200 yo Ryonkan was a magical experience for us. The atmosphere felt really authentic, and the dining experiences were truly exceptional thanks to cheff Mr. Yoshida.
L’experiència general
Tudo!
En meget autentisk og japansk country-side oplevelse. Smuk have.
We felt truly welcomed by the owners, who were thoughtful, kind, and attentive. It is a must to stay in a traditional ryokan while visiting Japan. We travel as a family with a baby and they were kind to provide crib for us. The breakfast and dinner that they serve is definitely the closest you can get for local experience, spending a lot of effort to provide a versatile and high quality menu, different per day (breakfast and dinner). Might be nice to stay 3 nights. With just two nights, our schedule felt a bit rushed: Day 1: Check-in, unpacking a bit, dinner. Day 2: Breakfast, visit to Magome & Tsumago, dinner, packing. Day 3: Departure. An extra day would have allowed us to slow down and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere more fully.
The price seemed to us a bit high. On top of that, you were being asked to have some drinks during dinner (dinner was included in the price) and we got charged in the end. While the extra charges were minimal (less than 3% of the total), at this price point—around 300 per night—it would have been nice if a drink or two during dinner were complimentary. Additionally, the place is an old traditional house 400 years old, according to the owners, in a quite decent state. However, some further refurbishment could have taken place, maintaining the aesthetic and the typology of the traditional japanese architecture.
Amazing, authentic experience with incredible food.
Beautiful! This is an enclosed property and feels very private. This is a true Ryokan experience! Chika taught us how to put on our kimono, which was included. We had our own private onsen, which was also really fun. Breakfast and dinner were included as well and the chef went above and beyond to accommodate our daughter’s gluten allergy - with no advance notice! The most incredible aspect, and what we will remember most, is the wonderful staff. Every single one of them was incredibly gracious, kind, attentive, responsive, helpful and accommodating. We left there understanding that Japan is a very special place and that the Japanese people are very special people. We will cherish these memories forever!
Nothing
Wonderful unique experience on a historical property. Delicious meals. Excellent service. Authentic and rustic ambience. Beautiful grounds. Comforting onsen. Altogether a memorable experience.
Website for property could be better, difficult to find and get details on the property. We would not have found it without Abroad in Japan feature. Glad we did!
The staff were very sweet and reverent for the process and classic structures. The onsen was clean and delightful, and the sliding windows and wooded view was epic!
Some travelers may find it too rustic, but we loved it.
We had an amazing experience here. The food was incredible, the staff really attentive and helpful, the rooms were beautiful and well equipped. For a foreigner in Japan, it was really special to experience such an authentic Japanese Inn.
Nothing.
Outstandingly beautiful setting bringing you back in time. The rooms were spacious and authentic. Very tasty food and excellent service
