Onsen were a highlight. We enjoyed our set menu and trying traditional Japanese cuisine. Our room was delightful and the sound of the river outside was calming and pleasant. The loop bus made sightseeing easy and affordable.
The smoking room was opposite our room and we could sometimes smell cigarette smoke wafting through the air
The room was beautiful. The amenities and dining was outstanding.
Nothing I could fault at all.
Excellent decor and service, great character and onsen with waterfall view
Nothing
Interessante Show jeden Abend.

Aizu Onsen offers a truly traditional Japanese experience. Atmosphere feels authentic and rooted in local culture. It’s the kind of place where you can appreciate classic Japanese style without any modern distractions. Breakfast and dinner just a gourmet.
Excellent breakfast and dinner, wonderful public baths, very nice rooms. I loved the complimentary tea set and sweets that we could steam ourselves in the room, which is a very nice touch. Free borrowing of colourful yukatas is also a plus. The front desk staff is nice and patient. Fresh mochi made for breakfast by a very nice cook. This is a really nice hotel with an excellent quality/price.
Overall, a very nice experience. Three things could be fixed to make the stay perfect: 1) door frames for the rooms are really low, we bumped our heads several times. Tall guests, beware! Adding some padding to the frame would really help. 2) there is no ventilation in the room shower, so it started smelling quite stale after a couple of days. Not a big problem for us since we used the public baths anyway! 3) in the restaurant, one member of the staff ( a waiter) was mostly addressing my husband, while not treating me the same way. This felt inadequate in the 21st century, regardless of cultural differences. I want to highlight this was only one member of staff who behaved this way, and overall we had a wonderful stay. But maybe a small reminder to the staff that all adults should be treated as equal guests could be useful.
Nice area, amazing hotel. Very nice Japanese breakfast. If you go, book a private bath. We sat in the open during the last part of the sunset. With a nice view of the surrounding forest.

The onsen and the meals were great
It’s a little bit further - easier to access with a car
It is next to a cascading beautiful river. Friendly staff but speak very little English. Dinner and breakfast were great. Our western room was new and bed was comfortable. The room faces the river.
Onsen was crowded even after peak hours like 930pm. The bathroom was very small and the shelves next to it made it difficult to brush teeth and wash face so I ended going to the public bath to use the sink. The bed platform had sharp edges so had to be careful.
The location is beautiful, the river running through the valley beside the hotel is exactly how an onset hotel should look. The rooms have lots of space and a surprisingly good amount of storage for luggage which makes them very comfortable. Having a separate entrance area from the room was also really nice, it helped keep the room nice and tidy. The highlight was being able to book a private onsen each night, they were not expensive at all and are even better value the more people in your group. The outdoor ones were especially nice.
It may be due to the onsen using up all the water, but the water pressure in the shower in our room was abysmal, it was barely useable. The corridors have a funny smell to them that makes the place smell a bit fusty, again this may be due to the onsen as there’s minerals in the water.
It was located near a river with the onsen directly facing a waterfall. Beautiful rooms and delicious food. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
The location and the onsen.
The dinner was mediocre relative to high price (5500 Yen per person). The way to our room (on the 3rd floor) crossed the private finding rooms.
Beautiful view from the room. We enjoyed the private onsen, the sake bar, the breakfast in the morning.
Awesome place to stay. 100% reccomendation. Staff was inceedibly nice and helpful. Onsen was a blast with a view. Breakfast was typical japanese with small buffet for extras. Try the fresh motchi! Its a bit off from the station but thats the catch.
Only downside was the bad smell in the bathroom, toilet and shower in the room (only strong doha musk helped a bit).
The Onsen baths were wonderful—overlooking a picturesque stream. Also delicious and beautifully prepared food.
Son originalité
Gute Lage am Fluss, schöner Onsen
Alles hat gut gepasst.
Great onsen bath, great view from the bath and the room, delicious dinner and breakfast and lovey staff. The freshly made mochi and tofu were particularly good.
I didn't dislike it but the bath temp is rather high. I don't mind hot bath but some people may think it's too hot. I wish they had a cold water bath like some other hot spring places.
Nice view , Clean and very good onsen
For a a large, resort style, ryokan I really enjoyed my stay here. Wonderful baths. Large, quiet, rooms and a very attentive and friendly staff. They offer all sorts of fun little extra events and services to enhance your stay. An interesting property.
The onsen. It was our first onsen, the whole experience was unbelievable. The view from.our traditional Japanese room was to die for. It felt like we were part of the bamboo forest.
The meals were such an amazing experience. It was a feast for your eyes. Staff were amazing, so many courses. As foreigners some of it wasnt to our liking and we felt wasteful. Extremely grateful for the beautiful traditional Japanese experience
This is our second time staying here, and everything is still amazing—the staff, the place, the onsen, and both breakfast and dinner. We still consider this ryokan to be the number one among all the ryokans we have visited in Japan.
The hotel is nearby a beautiful river. I loved the onsen and the quiet
Some of the staff were rude
It was a beautiful, scenic traditional (yet renotaved) hotel by a river. The onsen baths were fabulous and varied - at times I found myself on my own and it felt special. The rooms were comfortable and very bright, with view over the river.
1. The food was very good kaiseki ryori but maybe a little too complicated especially the kid's version which was still overly complicated and we ended up wasting too much. 2. The staff at reception weren't very good - we went to reception early to request a private bath booking for the family and were told to come back at 6pm to see if there was anything left at that stage, as we hadn't chosen the 'private bath' plan (plan that can only be booked through their own website, not through booking). It felt like we were second class guests, and at that price, it felt a bit disrespectful. The schedule looked like there were available slots but the man did not want to hear anything about it. It wasn't a language barrier either since we speak Japanese. The notice in the room said that we could just ring reception to book a private bath, there was nothing about waiting until 6pm. So that was a down side! Another thing was that we weren't told we had to book the hotel shuttle at check-in if we wanted to use it to go back to station on check-out day so we asked the receptionist to book us a taxi. She booked one car and we were six guests so when the taxi came, he couldn't take us all in and had to call another taxi himself. So all in all, the experience with reception felt rigid and sloppy.
Good place , sleep well, nice staff love everthing
Exceptional location.
Transfer to and from main train station is too limited. Only once a day.
Cockroach in the bed room
The room, facilities (especially the private onsen), dinner and staff were exceptional.
The information on how to get there and the free shuttle service were limited. To get there from Aizuwakamatsu train station, we got on a local bus to 東山温泉入口. You can also arrange for a free shuttle service (from the train station to the hotel) with the hotel but it is only available at 6pm and there might also be a language barrier for non-Japanese speakers as you can only do the booking via phone call. From the hotel to Aizuwakamatsu station, we booked the free shuttle service with the front desk. But don’t forget to do it a day before check-out. It is FOC and only available at 11.30am.
The onsen! The location, price and staff. The location of the hotel and the staff were excellent. The food was great and so was closeness to all amenities in aizu cbd. The most beautiful aspect of the stay was their open air onsens which was exceptional!
The size of the room was a bit smaller than I expected, but it was a well organised room.
