Evening meal good but breakfast was cold. Our room seemed to have a large boiler in it that made the room extremely hot. Lovely bedroom and bathroom . Great location . Great staff.
Breakfast was very good, the hotel was in a good location and very clean staff friendly too
nothing
The facilities were very nice and the food we had at breakfast and dinner was excellent.
The room was on the smallish side but more than adequate.
Location !!
Bar very dark
Very attentive and efficient staff, whether at Reception or in the Restaurant. The ambience was helped by there being no Saturday night parties/weddings as a couple of the Function Rooms are on the second floor where I was staying. Location - right opposite Skiption Railway Station, but remarkably quiet given the Hotel is on the main road, but it is just out of town which helps. Good food both at breakfast (0730 M-F & 0800 Sat/Sun) and dinner (ate there every night). In the morning you exit the Hotel via the side entrance; better for me as it avoids steps!
IDEALLY, a lift would help but given the building I know that's unlikely to happen (I did know there was no lift beforehand). Would be nice if breakfast started earlier at the weekends (eg 0730 as on Monday to Friday).
We stayed in the Heriot House which is the beautiful Georgian former manor house next door to the hotel. Something I wasn't made aware of prior to staying. However this was a wonderful surprise as the house was beautiful. The rooms were amazing and the rear of the property and private parking was a real bonus. We beds were comfy and our bathroom had a gorgeous freestanding bath which was lovely. The cooked breakfast was very good.
I felt the facilities were a little lacking. Poor selection of teas and coffees with no herbal/ fruit tea, no hot chocolate or complimentary biscuits in the room.. The body wash bottle was half empty and there was no hand/body cream in the bathroom. There was also no bottled water which is important. These seem like small points however when spending similar per night in other hotels recently the facilities have been of a higher standard. The menu in the Rhubarb restaurant was very limited. So were the breakfast options both cooked and continental/buffet options.
Handy for Railway Station! Clean comfy room. The food was excellent. Staff very friendly! Right next to canal.
A bit out of town. However not a problem as we got a taxi. My friend is bad on her legs!
Ideal location. Great facilities. Excellent food. Staff very welcoming pleasant and helpful
Next to the canal - a pleasant 10 mins walk into Skipton and 5 mins from a lovely park.
Lovely staff and hotel
Room on 2nd floor and opposite a fire station
Great stay. The staff couldn’t do enough for you. Definitely should be a 4 star hotel.
Nothing
The property is good, clean and nice ambiance. Which is also just near the Railway Station and near to town centre.
Everything was tremendous. An example of how a traditional inn type hotel can thrive in the modern era
I liked everything
Good location, easy walk into the centre. Free parking. The breakfast is very good and plentiful. The staff are friendly. It's very clean. Comfy beds and dark bedroom no light filtering in from anywhere.
Nothing. Everything was excellent
Breakfast was very good. I didn't have an evening meal. The room was very comfortable and the cleaning staff very helpful and polite.
Unfortunately the part of the hotel I stayed in didn't have a lift and being in my seventies I found it very difficult negotiating the stairs with my luggage. I mentioned this on leaving and was informed that the more modern part of the hotel had a lift. Next time I will request a room near the lift. I was offered help with my luggage but declined thinking I would be alright but I should have accepted the help! The hotel is a listed building so there are restrictions on what alterations and improvements can be made.
It was close to town and a great view of canal from My bedroom
The bathroom smelt a bit funky
The staff were very friendly and helpful
Car park is rather small, parking down the middle row makes a problem getting in and out of spaces
The canal view and the accommodation of the staff,
The room got quite hot if the fan wasnt on
The bridal suite room we stayed in is absolutely lovely and was clean with good bed linen. The two classic rooms our bridesmaids stayed in were also good. When we arrived to check, in the reception staff were very welcoming, professional, helpful and friendly. Our evening meal was good, and first breakfast was good. Plenty of choice. The second morning cooked breakfast was not the best, however, overall we all enjoyed our stay and we would stay again. The atmosphere at Herriots Hotel is very pleasant and friendly.
Comfortable bed, window doors opening over canal, fan provided in room and plenty of good choice at breakfast.
What an amazing hotel, the staff are beyond exceptional, so warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. The rooms are clean and very well equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay. We stayed in the Dales room on the second floor which had canal views. We had dinner, bed and breakfast and the food was great with plenty of choice. It was my birthday whilst staying and even got a goodie bag from the hotel in the room as well as Happy Birthday written in chocolate on my desert, a lovely touch. Very nice bar area to sit and relax as well as a lovely outdoor seating area too, good selection of beers and spirits, along with teas and coffees. Location is great, with a 5-10 minutes stroll along the canal into Skipton. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be staying there again.
Everything
Nothing
Friendly staff. Broken shower in original room. Quickly sorted and moved to alternative room.
Breakfast not good. Everything overcooked or maybe left under heat lamps too long. Couldn't cut bacon or hash browns they actually shot off plate. Beans cold. Disappointment 😞 with Breakfast just ordered poached eggs next day but literally brought 1 egg on a plate had to ask for 1 more n asked to do my own toast.
le comfort, le personnel aimable, l'emplacement ideal (50m de la gare), le petit dejeuner excellent et le restaurant, tout etait parfait.
Excellent location, close to Skipton centre and canal. Breakfast very nice. Staff wonderful and friendly. Very clean and tidy throughout. Private Carmarthenshire a massive plus.
Nothing
Very friendly and helpful staff
Probably could do with upgrading , bedrooms and lounge area
Need to change evening menu on a regular basis to attract more custom,I'm a chef in London
Nothing staff were really good ,just change the menu
Lovely friendly staff Ease of parking Good value for money Excellent breakfast Clean throughout
Nothing
Stayed here for 2 nights, the staff are exceptional, friendly and always helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean and food was lovely. Will definitely visit again, highly recommend
Lovely location perfect for walking into skipton, lovely room
Was a smell of drains in bathroom could have been due to hot weather
very close to the station, breakfast good
no lift, and as we were on the top floor, it was a real struggle for Mary to get to the top as her knees are very weak. it was also incredibly hot up there, even though a fan was provided.
Sitting outside in the courtyard was relaxing. Its location was good, 10 mins walk from centre of Skipton. Good sized free car park
A small fridge in the bedroom would have been useful
Staff were very helpful, the food was good and we mainly enjoyed our stay
Our room was one floor up on the main road anda bit noisy . There was a heavy blind which did help a bit, but eventually we had to shut the window and put the supplied fan on
My son brought me to skipton for a birthday treat and stayed in Herriots. Staff were very accommodating and welcoming. All friendly. The room was really clean and the bedding and towels also. Lovely breakfast and nicely cooked. We will definitely have no hesitation in recommending.
Staff were very good lovely location
Nothing
Excellent parking and entry to hotel. Relaxing lounge and bar area plus a separate breakfast area.
Only problem was lack of lift for the elderly in the group. However, eager offer of help with bags plus shallow steps on wide beautiful staircase compensated well.
Location good, staff friendly and helpful. Room.was good, we slept well. Breakfast was great too.
Nothing to dislike, bar area good. Outside seating if needed... carpark on site.
Was lovely hotel very good breakfast and lovely room over canals
Was disappointed on Thursday night went back at 8 30pm and was told food was finished
This is our third stay but disappointed. Superior room was dark and needed some work. Check in not great being at the bar and no matter where you stand with luggage behind others you block the bar/seats/corridor to the outside. Breakfast average. Plenty of parking. Good location.
Opposite Skipton stn, upmarket decor, smart professional staff, reasonably priced, relaxing bar area. Highly recommended.
Great location close to the town centre. Lovely walk along the canal to the centre.
Nothing everything was fine.
Very clean, staff very friendly and food spot on. It was literally yards to the canal towpath and everything was a short walks distance away.
Plumbing pipes were noisy
The hotel was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was very nice. We will stay here again. The location was spot on, a nice little stroll to the market place.
Some of the staff were a bit miserable but overall they were good.
Breakfast, Dinner Staff
Toilet a bit cramped
Lovely stay, room clean and comfy Friendly staff, great location. Good breakfast selection, Would stay again
We enjoyed our 2 night stay in the Dale's room.Which was comfortable, and clean. The hotel is in an ideal location for walking into town.We had the evening meal was good.particularly for my partner who is vegan. She enjoyed two lovely meals, which is seldom the case being vegan. So that was much appreciated.
We booked a canal side twin room and paid extra for early as we had booked a canal boat trip (which was brilliant). The room and facilities were excellent although on the morning of our departure the lift was not working. The room was spotless and the view over the canal was superb. Breakfast was included and was excellent. We would (and probably will) stay here again.
As this was our first time in Skipton and not knowing the area, we booked an evening meal in the Rhubarb restaurant which was quite disappointing, we saw the menu before and it looked very good however the quality was not so good - my venison was quite tough. We did get a reduction off our final bill.
Had a lovely stay here, with friendly staff and amazing food in their rhubarb restaurant! Will definitely be returning!
We had a wonderful stay at Herriots Hotel in Skipton. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The food was excellent, with great choice at breakfast. And the staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout, providing outstanding service and making us feel at home. The hotel’s location is perfect, just a short walk to Skipton town center and the railway station. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we’d happily stay here again.
My Grandparents came to stay for 4 nights. The room was sat above the kitchen and constantly smelt of food, the kitchen door was being slammed from 7am-10pm all day and they couldn’t sleep. The rooms floor was stained and the bathroom was so small they had to manoeuvre to move round the door. Staff were polite but for the price the rooms floor was unacceptable .
Gents Toilets so wiffy facing the open door to the kitchen! Put us off both dining and using the facilities! Urinals in such an upmarket and expensive venue we decided to eat in Morrisons!
Reception at the end of the bar
This is a superb hotel. Great food and exceptional staff.
Absolutely nothing
We were a group of 9 ladies celebrating 4 special birthdays and had a fabulous weekend in this lovely 5-bedroom house with private parking. The house was very well presented and spotlessly clean. Check-in was very easy and the hotel staff were very helpful (Anne deserves a special mention as does Chris Fenton who dealt with the booking). The large welcome pack provided was also much appreciated. The outside space worked well for us with people loving the hot tub and seating areas. Due to the weather being incredibly hot it meant that, unfortunately, we couldn’t use the annexe as it was unbearable with no way of cooling it down. Sunday lunch in the hotel next door was very nice. The house is well located directly opposite the railway station and there is a lovely walk along the canal into Skipton town centre.
Good location lady in reception very friendly as are all the staff.
Last time we stayed in a compact double the room was lovely looked newly decorated and had a great shower but no bath so we upgraded to a classic double for the bath and it wasn’t as nice as the compact double, looked very old and tired.
Breakfast was very good and my dog even got a sausage.
it would have been nice to be warned about the noisy macerating toilet. The tv was useless, buffering all the time, impossible to watch. The car parking is ridiculously tight
Excellent choice the room I had I could hear a noise throught the night like a generator noise which woke me up at two thirty I was tired so I did get back to sleep it is a lovly clean hotel had hair care facilities I would come back again because of that noise in a different room the breakfast just to stop that
Just that noise throught the night I enjoyed my stay
everything. We booked a compact room, but their was ample space and it contained everything we required
nothing to dislike
Breakfast was plentiful ,good and varied. Nothing was too much trouble waiting staff were pleasant and friendly
Stairs
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in July, staff very informative and friendly Lovely room with excellent shower facilities, beds very comfortable Would recommend to family and friends.
Stayed for one night while visiting friends in Skipton and good location being fairly close to town and most importantly it has a private car park! We opted for the 4 poster bedroom thinking we would be getting extra space but unfortunately found the room to be on the small side for us. Certainly did not feel like it was worth the extra money. Breakfast was OK but nothing special and that was our overall feeling about the hotel, OK but nothing special.
We were pleasantly surprised from the moment we drove into the car park. Anne on reception was efficient and helpful. Our room was very well equipped with all amenities. Rhubarbs restaurant the food delicious. Breakfast was vast with everything you could ever need. Perfect in every way
Location is perfect
Lovely old hotel. No lift to second floor. Single room small but comfortable and clean.
Lovely location and view of the canal. Beautiful room.
Far too warm in the room, even though fan provided
Breakfast was excellent and varied
Hot water took about 15mins to come through. In a drought that is poor. Toilet very noisy as is a mascerator. Bed very soft. Very basic single room for £105 is expensive.
Staff very friendly cannot do enough for you, we always stay in a canal room which are lovely rooms, breakfast was good, however, evening meals not good. We only stayed two nights this year and would have struggled to choose food on additional nights as twice main meals were not available and if you have a menu with a choice of six mains it is bad organisation to have a main or two unavailable. We have stayed there previous years and the food had a much better menu and quality. Great place to stay food let’s the hotel down.
Comfortable and well equipped room. Very good breakfast with a varied selection of fruit, yogurt, cereals and cooked breakfast. It’s just a five minute walk along the canal footpath into the town.
Excellent location, good food.
Nil
.Excellent position for town.Good parking. Friendly staff. Nice restaurant and bar.
Location, outside terrace, breakfast and staff service
Room had only one electrical socket that was located on the desk/dressing table. Nowhere to plug in telephone by bedside. No air conditioning.
I can honestly say that Herriots was super in all respects. It combines tradition and welcoming Yorkshire comforts with a unique, modern style. All the staff have their own character, and are really professional, but friendly with it. The location is ideal, near the canal and on into town. Great breakfasts.
I liked everything!
A nice hotel located centrally in Skipton our room was on the 2nd floor there was no lift we could see but that wasn't a problem for us.The room was large but quite standard we both enjoyed the breakfast and service was very good. What I found strange the hotel shuts down at 11pm and to gain entry you have to use a code they give you to enter by a side door. This proved problematic for a group who arrive after midnight and couldn't get in even after using the code given to them? There is free car parking on site which is excellent we never had an evening meal there but the menu looked very good.
Staff were lovely nice stay not far from town
A little noisy at night if at front but got used to it so not a problem
The location to the town centre.
Room could have been a bit bigger. Very small wardrobe
It was a good location, staff were amazing, food was great and the room was just what we wanted
Excellent location just a 5 minute walk into town and 200 yards from Skipton station along with bus stops outside hotel which will take you to Grassington, ( Where some scenes from All creatures great and small filmed.(Channel five)
Large shower head needs to be higher up. Other than that no issues
Friendly staff. Good location. Quiet on a night. Nice big bed. Lovely and clean. Big bathroom. Breakfast was tasty.
Second floor and no lift. Although we were warned.
A lovely hotel. Nice room. Very clean and a big bed. Breakfast was lovely. Would definitely recommend.
The hotel was spotless clean, the decor was first class and amenities good and location good.
My wife and I are both in our seventies, our bedroom was on the second floor, we had to climb four flights of stairs, and there was rooms in another part of the hotel that we were not offered. I personally had two bad nights sleep our room was at the front overlooking the main road and a fire station directly opposite our room. The dinner menu was very limited with not much choice.and finally the hotel is locked up at 11pm with no staff available after that time not very safe for elderly people.
Amazing stay yet again at Herriots!! Such a lovely hotel with attentive staff and a lovely atmosphere ❤️ we love coming to stay!
Could not fault Herriots Hotel at all. Enjoyed my stay. Room was perfect for me and doors opened onto the Leeds/Liverpool canal where a pair of swans were just watching life go by. Staff friendly and welcoming. Food in the restaurant was fresh, made to order and tasty.

Beautiful and central . Very friendly staff. Fans in bedrooms as it was warm . Breakfast very good and delicious.
Nothing
Food excellent. Staff most courteous. Room very clean and tastefully decorated but the extremely hot weather exposed the limits of fresh air exchange through the room. The exterior air was reasonably cool but was not able to be drawn in by the fan, through the fully open window.
Room ventilation could have been better.
Lovely hotel conveniently located next to train station, not far from the canal or the town centre. Comfortable and clean room. Great breakfast, nice restaurant and bar. Lovely staff. Very positive experience. I'll be back.
The only thing that was nice was the location and the bed was comfortable even though it was a single bed.
The room had a bad smell. There was no tea or coffee or water in the room and the hotel was not as clean as it should have been. The water from the shower was not running hardly. The tap in the sink was running more.
Breakfast finished too early. Bathroom very small. None helped with our luggage upstairs and no lift
Bigger bathroom and later breakfast.
The hotel is well situated on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, close to the town centre and castle. The room was large and comfortable; all the facilities that we required were present. Breakfasts were very good. Our main human contact during the stay was the gentleman who served our breakfasts and he was both friendly and efficient. We appreciated the provision of a powerful fan for the room, during a spell of very warm weather.
Our room overlooked a main road, with a fire station opposite, so could be noisy at times. We used the restaurant a couple of times in the evening, but found the menu limited and the service slow.
Top cooked breakfast
Too warm in Room (Room 8). Electric Fan not good enough. Please get air con
First impression was a lovely clean welcoming hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. It was a good price for bed and breakfast in a canal view room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we will go back again
Stayed few times here good place.
The room was spotless, breakfast was lovely, we had a dog with us and she even got a sausage at breakfast . Location was perfect . My only niggle , the long length mirror was I the wrong place , right next to the bed , so couldn’t look at myself ( whole body) as the bed was in the way ! Fan provided , and on check in , biscuits in a little bag , for me and my husband , and in a separate bag , some for our dog .
The dress mirror was too close to the bed , to see whole outfit.
It's a lovely building and very comfortable. It's conveniently located opposite the train station and a comfortable 10-15 minutes walk along the scenic canal path into the centre of town with both chain and independent shops, and a market several times a week. There's also a Morrisons store 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast and dinner were delicious with plenty of choice and the staff could not have been more helpful. Special mention to Ann on reception, Chelsea on the bar and Tino in the restaurant.
My room was very hot - but my stay was during the June heatwave so anywhere would have been hot! However, I was able to open the window and a fan was provided.
Really nice bathroom. Comfortable bed. Ver6 good breakfast.
Very creaking floorboards. Duvet too thick a top sheet would have been nice on such hot night.
The rooms were beautifully decorated and furnished. The restaurant was lovely with a good selection of food. Everyone really enjoyed their food choices. The outdoor area had lots of seating with big umbrellas for shade. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the location was good for exploring Skipton and surrounding areas.
Rooms had tea and coffee facilities but no biscuits. Would have expected a hotel of this standard to have small fridge with bottled water provided and storage for guests cold drinks.
