Excellent location in the heart of the Dutch wall fortress and right near international cricket ground. There was an amazing atmosphere and feel about the hotel and staff went above and beyond to help. lakmal was very helpful in explaining all food and entertainment for the evening. The rooms were spacious, clean and tidy and the blue and white crockery added to the feel of the hotel. Great value for money with the food being exceptional. The YARA hotel is a great choice for mid range to luxury traveller and this is the second of the group of hotels I have stayed in. Highly recommend.

We had a one night stay at Yara Galle Fort over the weekend, and everything about our experience was excellent! The location is very convenient and makes it easy to explore the Fort on foot. Our room was amazing beautifully styled, quiet and spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable bed. We only had breakfast at the hotel, as we went out in the evening, and it was great. The staff were friendly, attentive and showed us genuine Sri Lankan hospitality throughout our stay. Thank you so much to the entire team! We highly recommend Yara Galle Fort and look forward to returning soon.

The location is terrific, a short walk to the main shopping and dining precinct, and the hotel has a peaceful central courtyard and comfortable seating to relax and recharge. The Sri Lankan breakfast was lovely, ice cream was delicious and coffee was good. Our room was lovely, quiet and comfy.

We were a bit surprised that alcohol was not allowed, apparently due to proximity to a school, however there was a good choice of tasty mocktails. Our room looked out onto the central courtyard, so not very private, however it was a beautifully appointed room.

Overall, this was a very good stay. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The location is excellent, right inside Galle Fort, making it easy to walk to any part of the old town. It is also conveniently located about a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride from both Galle bus station and the train station.

The only issue we encountered was with Google Maps walking directions. It initially led us along the fort wall by the ocean, where there was actually no accessible path, so we had to turn back and take a tuk-tuk instead. It is unclear whether this navigation issue has since been corrected.

Everything about Yara Galle Fort was just perfect! The location so central and easy to walk around the fort area. The rooms were amazing, the style just beautiful, bed comply, it was quiet, clean and just beautiful. Meals were great and staff so friendly and nothing was a trouble. I had a group of 8 people and all said it was their favorite place they stayed in Sri Lanka. Thank you so much! Highly recommend it and will return with my group next year

I had booked 3 nights, I rebooked to 2 nights no problem. When I check out they try and charge me for 3nights????? I tell them I only stayed 2nights……. Then they say ” Ohh sorry ” Sad that they treat their customers as walking ATM:s……🤨

The location in the old fort area at the Yara was superb and so convenient

the property is so full of character, yet manages to provide accommodation that is equivalent, or better, than many hotel chains. The setting around the courtyard was stunning and was close to the Fort itself and the shops/restaurants in the area. The evening we had a meal at the property we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of that also.

Nice hotel, location and breakfast. However, would recommend against the duplex suite room as the windows and door open onto the restaurant, which is noisy during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I stayed in the Yara from the 25th to the 28th February. I really enjoyed it, highlights for me: Very friendly and helpful staff Clean Nice decor Nice food Good location, 300m from the best spot to watch the sunset It is located close to the entrance to the Galle Fort. This means that you have a 5 minute walk (at the most) to the main shopping/restaurant area. I preferred that location because it felt more open and pleasant. Sitting in the outdoor lounge area at the front of the hotel was a pleasure. The general manager Mr Lakshyan was particularly pleasant and helpful which made me feel very comfortable, especially since I was a solo female traveller. Thank you again. Eleanor

Great location for your stay. Cozy environment.

You can hear across walls. We could literally follow the cricket match from the room above us. At the second complain, they finally proposed an upgrade to another room. However has to be said that we had requested a different room at check in, since once in we could hear from reception, but there were no options. We could have paid more for an upgrade if the option was presented and could been avoided the 11pm change. Poor judgement.

We had a great stay at Yara Galle Fort. The hotel is perfectly placed to explore the fort and Galle. The staff were fantastic and made our stay all the more pleasurable. The food was excellent - we loved the breakfast, and the cake in our room for our honeymoon!

Wonderful stay from start to finish. Senari was polite and professional handling our check-in and check-out formalities and really made us feel welcome. The food and service in the restaurant were both excellent with special mention for Farhath who was outstanding and was a master barista making the best flat whites we've had in a long time. Located in the beautiful walled city of Galle this hotel is a gem.

This is a small hotel with quite basic rooms. The food was very good but had to be ordered in advance i.e. at breakfast, you have to select what you have for dinner and vice versa. Vegetarian options are very limited. Also, they do not hold a licence to sell alcohol, but apparently they will send staff out to a local shop to get beer if you want it. We didn’t use this service, so can't comment on it. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

The location is excellent and the staff are all charming and helpful. The rooms are stylish and the property itself is a delightful place to stay. The resident manager was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help my husband and ensure that our stay was perfect. Thank you

We had a great stay at Yara Galle. It is located in a quiet area, inside Galle Fort, yet minutes walk from attractions and restaurants. Staff were helpful via email when we messaged to book our room responding quickly to messages sent. They also arranged our transfers from the airport to Galle and then for our onward journey. Breakfast was plentiful and we also had lunch at the hotel before we moved onto our next hotel. We would stay again if we were back in Galle.

We stayed for just one night as a family of 4 at Yara Galle Fort. Our first impressions were that it is an incredible building which has been converted with the utmost care and consideration. We stayed in two separate rooms. The rooms were enormous, spacious and really tastefully decorated. We loved the attention to detail, especially the stunning antique necklaces framed above the beds! The bedding was lovely with crisp linens, soft dreamlike pillows and big fluffy towels! The showers were great too as were the complimentary toiletries in the cool bathrooms. The hotel also has really nice communal areas which just add to the boutique feeling. But the standout for us were the staff, especially Sagara and Nawodya who were always so super friendly and attentive (and helped us with our many bags!). The waiting staff in the restaurant were also really lovely and made us feel so welcome! We only ate breakfast in the restaurant and opted for the Sri Lankan breakfast which was delicious and filling! Would highly recommend and hope to return!

Absolutely nothing

Yara Galle Fort has been such a wonderful experience. We spent two nights here and I would highly recommend it. Highlights - The charm of this aesthetic hotel, the Dutch influence in Architecture and Interiors, the breakfast they served and most importantly the Service. It was a perfect wrap to our Sri Lanka experience.

Man wollte uns bei Ankunft ein anderes (kleineres) Zimmer geben als das, was wir gebucht hatten. Das war etwas eigenartig, wir haben aber darauf bestanden. Englisch des Personals eher mässig.

This is a Boutique hotel inside the Galle Fort. Speciality of the hotels inside the Fort is, the unique designs of the Dutch heritage appearance. They have been classified as a heritage site and are restricted from any modifications to the building. Our room was #205 which was at the corner of the building. Generous size room and a small bathroom. It has been decorated with two unique necklaces framed and hung on the wall behind the bed. The restaurant is located just before the entrance, offering a delightful breakfast with both Sri Lankan and Western dishes.

Wood boring insects (unseen) in the roof - leaving sawdust piles in the bathroom continually Mattress covers on beds had plastic backing - came untucked every night

It is one of the best options to stay in Galle. Great location and facilities. Their staff is wonderful. They serve the best Sri Lankan breakfast around the country. Highly recommended. We will return.

The staff were very friendly, and gave us lots of water which was much appreciated! The breakfast was also very good and generous. Rooms were comfy and cool.

The room we had was on the ground floor which meant a lot of surrounding noise plus there was light coming in from a window that didn’t have a curtain so it was a bit difficult to sleep. Given the price, you would expect more though in terms of facilities - e.g.. gym or pool.

So only one thing, and this I have found almost everywhere. Lack of English and when the staff dont understand they don't tell me. Anyway we woukd stay here again

Really loved every bit of the stay. We truly enjoyed our time, especially the comfortable rooms and the delicious food. Everything was well taken care of and made the experience very pleasant.

We stayed at Yara Fort Hotel for five nights from 21–26 December, paying approximately USD 1,750 in total (around USD 350 per night). The location inside Galle Fort is excellent, and the staff were polite and welcoming. However, at this price point we expected a genuinely high-end boutique experience comparable with other top properties in the Fort. In our view, the overall standard of the room, facilities, and atmosphere did not justify the rate charged. We appreciate that this was a peak festive period and that prices are higher at Christmas. Even allowing for seasonal pricing, though, the experience felt closer to a mid-range guesthouse than a luxury boutique hotel. Had the nightly rate been significantly lower, we would likely have been satisfied. Prospective guests should weigh the excellent location against the value for money, particularly as there are other well-established Galle Fort hotels offering more at similar or lower prices.

We loved our stay here! As soon as we arrived we were greeted by smiling staff and a fresh fruit juice and cold towel to freshen up. The hotel is in a beautiful colonial building with a pretty courtyard. Our room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed, great shower and good aircon. The breakfast was huge! It’s in a great location inside the fort walls, so we were able to walk everywhere and explore Galle. I’d definitely stay here again!

Wonderful location, in Galle Fort but very quiet. Lovely Dutch-inspired decor, big spotless bathroom, delightful inner courtyard. Excellent breaks fast too, and attentive service throughout.

This hotel is a fabulous gem in Galle old town...lovely old building wonderfully restored. Location is great - just by the clock tower and fort walls but restaurants on the doorstep. Rooms are spacious and beautifully presented and the entire team are fabulous...friendly and courteous and happy to help. The sri Lankan breakfast is amazing...best so far on our tip and perfect egg hoppers! It's just so much nicer to stay in a smaller, friendly place rather than a big impersonal one....would heartily recommend!
