The most amazing place to stay. Old world charm, delicious breakfast, lovely pool
Nothing
Nice charming place.
A bit expensive for what it is.
The best gem in Galle Fort! Attentive staff who listen and are always there to make your stay comfortable.
One suggestion was cleaning across the street and around the property - obviously outside the property but would be nice ti give back to the community.
Location, facilities, and staff were excellent.
The only negative I have, is that the breakfast was below par. Eggs Benedicts was dry. Scrambled eggs were overcooked, and toast must have been sitting around for a while before being brought out, as was soggy.
Such a delightfully charming heritage building and location! We booked to "seaview" room - (which did not have a seaview at all but a view of the street in front & trees. 😂) It is a beautiful room, light & bright with a huge, huge, beautiful bathroom, everything tastefully heritage but modern where modern is needed. The breakfast was excellent, the staff particularly lovely & friendly & we felt at home. The pool is great, being big enough & really good & deep in parts & there's an undercover lounge beside it, as well as the 4 sunloungers. We loved staying inside Galle Fort & being able to roam at will & return in minutes to the cool & peace of our hotel. It was a great experience.
Only that there are no tea & coffee making facilities in the room. A tea or coffee will be provided by the staff but at 6.45am I just want to make myself a coffee, not talk to anyone. 😁
Private, elegant, peaceful, restful and very relaxing plus the staff were all exceptionally helpful and thoughtful, the food outstanding and the pool was superb. It was a great location and oasis to wake up to and retreat to after a day exploring Galle Fort.
Nothing!
Everything! Highly recommended, and the staff is amazing!
Everything was perfect- no restroom in the common area was the only missing thing.

A small and charming hotel perfectly located in Galle Fort, right where everything happens and in one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in the city. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and very clean. Breakfast was generous and tasty, although a little spicy for our taste. The service was top-notch throughout our stay, with a very welcoming and attentive team. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend this hotel!
The swimming pool could use a little more attention and regular cleaning, as it didn’t feel as well maintained as the rest of the hotel.
This was fabulous, from the gates to the welcome and only 4 rooms. We booked a poolside room which. I definitely recommend. The staff, location, breakfast and we even got to meet a wild group of monkeys who came to visit making it even more special.
This was a stunning property which gave you a real feel for colonial life in historic Galle. A fabulous location opposite the fort walls and sea and a great base for exploring. The property is maintained to a very high standard and the pool was immaculate even though we didn’t use it. The team were very attentive to our needs and left us a gorgeous chocolate cake on our last night which was most appreciated. We had dinner at the Villas one night which was a wonderful Sri Lanka feast and breakfast was delicious on both days. Thank you team for a great visit
The property was very clean, tidy and well presented with a homely feel. The location was great - right in the centre of Galle fort area. The staff were super helpful and friendly.
There was nothing not to like although ‘sea view’ was pushing it a bit - maybe if you stood on a chair in exactly the right spot you would be able to see the sea !! However, this did not detract from our stay.
Very nice boutique hotel. The staff was excellent and polite. The breakfast was delicious and customised as per one's choice. Very well located right in the heart of Galle Fort with easy walking access to the restaurants/ bars/ market etc. Extremely satisfied with my stay. Recommend always.
Nothing that I can pin point. Yeah the capacity of the aircon should be increased in the 1st floor road facing big bedroom or alternately 1 more aircon should be added immediately.
We absolutely loved our stay at Taru Villas Rampart Street. We were welcomed as family by the staff who were so helpful and accommodating throughout. We stayed in the sea view room which had a lovely four poster bed. The room was beautifully decorated and the perfect size for travelling with two children. The pool area was stunning and a lovely place to cool down after waking around the fort. We loved the daily breakfasts and enjoyed a special dinner as a family on our last night. The food was outstanding - some of the best of our trip, especially the curries. We will be back!
We stayed at Taru Villas Rampart Street, a very small boutique property located inside the historic walls of Galle Fort. With only four bedrooms it has a very intimate and relaxed atmosphere. Our room was on the ground floor opposite the pool. It was pleasant but fairly simple and perhaps a little basic compared with some other boutique hotels we stayed at during our trip. The highlight of the stay was definitely the food, which was very good. Dinner is served at a large communal table, creating a really enjoyable and sociable experience. We were fortunate to spend our stay with two very interesting couples, which made the evenings particularly memorable, with a relaxed and friendly feel throughout. The pool area is quite small and can be a little shaded at certain times of the day, but still a pleasant spot to cool off after exploring the fort. One thing worth noting is that the property sits next to a school, and music starts playing from around 6am. If you are a light sleeper this could be something to be aware of. Also, within the fort walls the heat can feel quite intense at times, as there is limited through-breeze, which is something to bear in mind when staying in this area. Overall, this is a charming and intimate place to stay in Galle, particularly if you enjoy a more personal atmosphere and the social aspect of communal dining.
Lovely staff, good location, comfortable.
It was extremely expensive for what it was so we honestly felt a bit ripped off given it was the most expensive place we stayed in our 9 days in Sri Lanka. Better places closer to the centre were half the price. Also the sea view room we booked had no sea view so this was really disappointing. The pool was directly in front of two rooms so had no privacy. Food service was also really confusing as we thought there was no restaurant but we saw people eating dinner. It wasn't explained to us that dinner was available. No menus in room. Breakfast was similarly confusing even though the breakfast was very nice in the end.

A beautiful, colonial building set in a great location to explore Galle. The food was delicious and the staff amazing.
The pool was small and only had 4 sunbeds - a problem if you didn’t get there early enough.
Right in the heart of Galle a fantastic boutique hotel (only 4 rooms) offering a peaceful haven from the hustle and bustle of the city, though only minutes from all the attractions, bars, restaurants and shops and directly opposite the fortress. Our room was immaculate and very spacious with a large queen-sized four poster bed, huge en-suite shower and a private terrace to enjoy the truly amazing local food - the curries were excellent. The swimming pool is great - nice and warm - a great place to relax and unwind after a day exploring. The staff are very welcoming, polite and ensured our stay was perfect.
Our favourite hotel in Sri Lanka. Small with personal service and an absolutely wonderful retreat within the Galle Fort walls. Our room had a private balcony overlooking the pool and was beautifully appointed. Great location with 5 minute walk to many restaurants and bars. The pool is small but perfect and offers a welcome opportunity to cool down and watch the monkeys the trees around the hotel at the same time. Friendly helpful staff and great value for money.
A beautiful, quiet boutique hotel in the centre of Galle Fort. Small number of rooms but everywhere is so spacious. Furniture, paintings all fabulous. Would highly recommend this hotel for a stay. Very Friendly and helpful staff.
Taru Villas Rampart Street is a beautiful bungalow within the Galle Fort. It has 4 rooms all beautifully decorated. The service was excellent and loved how they sat all their guests at the main dining table. I was able to meet several lovely guests from across the world. Lovely experience!
The 4 rooms make it very private and the chef was very forthcoming and prepared delicious food. The place is simply stunning and the interior court is so peaceful.
An amazing boutique hotel, full of charm and style. Staff were exceptional. We opted for evening meal and blown away by the quality and care given.
We struggle to say anything.
Exceptional service, quality food, peaceful location inside Galle Fort by ramparts. Only four rooms and outstanding boutique experience. Amazing curry meal experience, highly recommend.
A beautiful House in the perfect location! And the pool!!!!
Excellent location
Style and architecture
The hotel is small and intimate and the staff can give lots of attention to ensuring the guests have everything they want. Ordering the food in advance guaranteed excellent meals.
Beautiful property and wonderful staff
Beautiful small hotel with stunning interiors, excellent location, fantastic staff and undoubtedly the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had.
Limited hot water - not enough to use the bath in our room and started to cool halfway through washing my hair. Fortunately it’s very hot in Sri Lanka and the water isn’t ice cold so you don’t miss this too much.
A very beautiful place. Spacious. Kind and attentive staff.
Unfortunately, the comfort was spoiled by an outdated and excessively noisy air conditioner. What a shame not to invest in more modern units.
Beautiful oasis, amazing food, great staff.
Nothing
A luxury timeless oasis in a cozy and calm atmosphere. Everything was perfect, from the wonderful staff, the homemade with love created delicious personalised breakfast, the comfortable rooms and beds as well as the lovely garden and swimming pool. Highly recommended!
The best hotel we’ve ever stayed in. The attention to detail is second to none. The true definition of a boutique hotel.
Nothing
Possibly the best place we have ever stayed. Stunning colonial style architecture with beautiful styling. Wonderful pool and surrounds. Gentle and caring staff. Extremely relaxed and peaceful.
Couldn’t stay longer.
Absolutely stunning property. Location is fabulous and the rooms are tastefully designed. Breakfast was sumptuous & filling. Staff is really helpful.
I was told I was being upgraded to a better room. Surprisingly, this room was facing the street and there was constant noise from the traffic which made sure I got zero sleep on my only night here. The AC in the room was so loud as if the traffic wasn’t enough. Since I barely slept, defeated the entire purpose of my stay. No point of senseless upgrading when the basics aren’t taken care of.
Lovely quaint hotel set in a beautiful colonial building. The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. A perfect location in Galle Fort. Delicious breakfasts served in the verandah overlooking the beautiful garden and the pool. Good size room with a very large and most comfortable bed.
No coffee/tea facilities were available in our room which was disappointing and surprising for such a quality hotel.
Totally unique boutique hotel, stunning architecture, rooms and pool area are divine and the staff are delightful, so sweet and helpful.

This unique and beautiful boutique villa is an incredible place to stay! Teeming with wild life, friendly gentle monkeys! Rooms are stunning, colonial style. A totally original experience! The staff are soooo lovely and helpful.

A stunning historical property in an excellent location with the most attentive and kind staff. Beautiful rooms and pool area. Lovely dining and reading rooms. The chef creates the most beautiful breakfasts and evening meals. It was the best hotel stay in Sri Lanka for me.

Beautiful hotel and perfectly located. The staff were fantastic, very attentive and excellent breakfasts
Ideal location, amazing staff, wonderful breakfast. Great style.
That I had to leave
Lovely hotel in a great location.
Couldn’t stay longer
What a lovely place. We had the two pool rooms booked and we felt like we were in our own private villa. Out to explore and then back to cool off. The young men who work there greet you with a genuine friendly smile every time you return and the service was personal and incredible. And the food - some of the best breakfast food we had in Sri Lanka! And finally the visiting langur monkeys. What a delight! Highly, highly recommend. beautiful rooms. Perfectly located
Everything! Beautiful villas, wonderful staff and perfect location. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.
Nothing!
Excellent place and breakfast was superb.
This was like a piece of tranquil paradise in the middle of Galle Fort. It’s excellently located for exploring the fort and the building is beautifully preserved and offers excellent and spacious accommodation. We loved the room with a garden balcony, as we could watch and hear the world go by from the comfort of our room. The staff are so kind and offer many great tips for places to see inside the fort and were always in hand to make our stay extra special. Breakfast is very sizeable with many options. We will definitely be back!
Everything else, good beds, well decorated. Great service.
The shower was a bit wonky in water pressure, that was scary. Also there needed to be bed side power points for charging. The breakfast could be better - in terms of quality of bread.
We had an exceptional Stay at the Taru Villas Rampart Street - Galle Fort in June 2025. The hotel is very well located. You can walk to anywhere inside the Fort where all the restaurants and shops are. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive and treated us with genuine kindness and professionalism to ensure our stay was comfortable. The room was clean, tastefully decorated, and best of all cold! This really was a vital after visiting the Fort in the heat! The pool and common areas were well maintained and added to the sense of relaxation and luxury. We left feeling refreshed, well cared for, and eager to return. This hotel is a true gem in Sri Lanka, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an unforgettable getaway.
Nothing. Because of a medical emergency we did not stay at Taru Villas. Please continue reading for our experience with them when we reached out.
Because of a very serious medical emergency in my family, we had to fly back home and were unable to stay at Taru Villas in Galle. This review is therefore not about the accommodation itself, but about their policy and customer service. If you ever face an emergency, don’t count on their understanding. We contacted them several days before check-in to discuss cancellation options, but they were inflexible and showed no empathy or willingness to help. Instead, they offered us lunch at a different location - an odd gesture, considering we were urgently leaving the country. They proceeded to charge the full amount of our stay to our credit card. To be clear: I fully understand cancellation policies and how businesses operate. But under our circumstances - and given the time they had to rebook the room - their decision felt rigid and deeply disappointing. It’s not what you would expect from the otherwise warm and hospitable Sri Lankan people. Conclusion: Despite reaching out in advance and clearly explaining our situation, Taru Villas stuck rigidly to their policy without the slightest human consideration. Faced with a genuine crisis, they offered no support, no empathy - only a cold transaction.
Small boutique hotel with only four rooms. Exceptional customer service and absolutely beautiful tranquil rooms. Located within the wonderful Galle Fort, across from the ramparts and the sea. The staff here were the best in Sri Lanka (which is a big call because most of the staff we met were really good) and the breakfast was superb. Would highly recommend staying at this property.
Everything was excellent
Really lovely little boutique hotel in the heart of Galle Fort region. Staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend
Very nice place to stay with a pool. Great staff and breakfast. Would recommend.
A beautiful hotel with colonial charm. Pleasant staff with a friendly family atmosphere
This was an incredibly beautiful historic house and one of the loveliest places I’ve ever stayed. The staff took such great care of us and the food was delicious. The location was great too, right on the ramparts and inside the fort. We loved every minute of our stay here.
Taru Villa in Galle exceeded my expectations! The villa was beautifully designed, with stunning architecture and lush greenery. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring a comfortable stay. The location was perfect for exploring Galle's historic fort and enjoying the local culture. Highly recommend for a relaxing and memorable getaway in Sri Lanka!
1. Food Menu has limited options 2. Prayer Mat was missing 3. They dont have lifts
The villa has several communal sitting areas that are all very comfortable and beautifully furnished. The garden/ pool area is peaceful and even attracted a kingfisher bird. Our room and bathroom was large and the bed was perfect. The Sri Lankan breakfast option was delicious. The staff were attentive and always smiling.
Nothing
This was a very relaxing place to stay - so many areas to sit, talk, read and unwind . The staff were a fabulous team , always smiling and attentive to our needs . The room was a fabulous space , very luxurious .
The courtyard garden and pool with spaces to sit outside .
This is unquestionably a beautiful and charming place to stay. There is ample space to relax in as well as a pool. The staff are simply wonderful; incredibly polite, friendly and always willing to help. The breakfasts are just great, we opted to what was referred to as the ‘Western breakfast’, which included fresh fruit, juice , tea and coffee and then a range of choices including: poached eggs, full English, & French toast. The location was excellent, minutes from the old fort and restaurants. A great place!
It's definitely a charming hotel ! After returning, I kept recalling these fragments.
Nothing
The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable, the staff were excellent, pool was nice, great location, couldn't have asked for better.
The parking is on the road.
Beautiful property in a great location within the fort
When we arrived they said they served wine and beer. They gave us a wine list of about 30 different wines and all bar one had an unavailable sticker on them. Why bother? I would rather they said they don’t sell drinks. They also don’t have a common bathroom on the property. We had requested a late checkout but as the property was full there was no bathroom for us to use to change clothes for our flight home. If we had known that we would have booked another hotel where this was possible. In the end we had to book another hotel for day use just to shower and change before our flight home.
Wow, we are lucky to have found the Taru Villas group and the 3rd property of theirs on our trip around Sri Lanka was more like staying in a luxury 5 star private catered villa with 2 to 1 staff to clients ratio! Beautiful period property, amazing staff and great food. Highly recommended!!
