Reviewed Aug 30, 2026The property has a beautiful setting. Alongside a natural river course so there is good birdlife. Very peaceful with no traffic noise. Set in a wonderful "Zen like" garden. You are greeted by the owner and her two beautiful great Danes. The rooms are extremely comfortable alongside a sparkling pool. Meals other than a self catering facility are not provided which should not distract as restaurants are very close by including a wonderful breakfast facility. We have stayed here several times and return often because of its comfort and convenience

Beautiful garden and pool area next to river with magnificent view of mountains. Close to good restaurants and coffee shops. Off street parking to complete a perfect stay in Swellendam. Highly recommend .

Reviewed Apr 27, 2026Die Lage war perfekt für uns...sehr ruhig und trotzdem fußläufig in den Ort. Super Blick auf den Bergen. Herrliches Grundstück, sogar der Pool wurde extra für uns geheizt. Das Appartement hatte alles was man braucht. Melani war sehr nett und immer hilfsbereit. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

Frühstück wird am Vortag in Kühlschrank gestellt. Brotscheiben in Cellopanpapier ebenfalls ins Zimmer gelegt. Eier müssten selbst gekocht werden und Speck auch wenn gewünscht (Auf)-Preis/Leistung für uns dafür nicht. Alternativ= ohne buchen und ins nahgelegene Kaffee gehen.

Reviewed Mar 25, 2026This was an amazing property. From the moment we arrived the host was incredibly friendly and welcoming along with her two great Dane dogs who are a joy. She told us where local restaurants were and where it was safe to walk and where it was necessary to drive. Home-made rusks were in the Room room which were a lovely touch. The room was a great size as was the bathroom. There were lots of towels and it was luxurious. The pool and backdrop in the garden was stunning. It really was a joyous place to be and ideal to explore Swellendam.
We have no criticism about this hotel and would stay again if we were in the area without hesitation.

Reviewed Mar 16, 2026Die Unterkunft ist ganz ruhig gelegen, mit tollem Panorama, einem tollen Pool und auch unser Zimmer war super, mit allem was man brauchte und vor allem einem bequemen Bett.
Wer Angst vor großen Hunden hat, sollte hier nicht einchecken, die sind zwar wirklich lieb, aber laufen auch überall frei rum. Dies nur als Hinweis.

Reviewed Mar 11, 2026We had a very pleasant stay at Riverbed Guesthouse in Swellendam. The property is beautifully located in a quiet and green setting, creating a very peaceful atmosphere. The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and well equipped for a self-catering stay. From the guesthouse we enjoyed a lovely hike to nearby waterfalls, which was definitely worth the effort. The property also features a beautiful swimming pool, although unfortunately the weather did not allow us to fully enjoy it.
One small surprise were the Great Danes roaming freely around the property — we later learned they help keep monkeys away.

Reviewed Feb 14, 2026Die Gastgeberin ist extrem herzlich und hilfsbereit. Man fühlt sich sofort willkommen bei ihr. Die Unterkunft liegt in einer ruhigen angenehmen sicheren Wohngegend. Man kann fussläufig (Frühstücks-)restaurants erreichen. Der Garten, der Pool und die Hunde sind ebenfalls Highlights, wobei wir Pech mit dem Wetter hatten.
Es gab nichts, was mir nicht gefallen hätte. Das Bad ist nicht mehr ganz neu, aber völlig in Ordnung.

Reviewed Feb 8, 2026A Riverbed is set in the foothills of beautiful mountain ranges with stunning views. The guesthouse is stunning with well equipped rooms and a generous patio area where you can sit and take in the stunning and peaceful surroundings. We found the location excellent, and a short walk to coffee shops and restaurants. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They have two magnificent Great Danes that wander around making sure guests are safe and free from naughty Babboons should they venture too close to the property. This place is amazing and well worth a visit.
Having to say goodbye at the end of our stay.

Reviewed Jan 30, 2026Das Hotel war angenehm, sauber und hat eine sehr schöne Lage, allerdings etwas abseits von den Restaurants. Ein schöner Garten, sehr gepflegt mit Aussicht auf ein ursprüngliches Bachbett. Ich würde es wieder buchen.
Das Frühstück war vorbereitet im Kühlschrank. Darauf haben wir verzichtet. Das war fast ein Glücksfall. Wir haben unser Frühstück im Restaurant Schoon Winkel eingenommen. Fantastisch und preiswert.

Reviewed Dec 28, 2025⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wir hatten einen rundum wunderbaren Aufenthalt im A Riverbed Guesthouse in Swellendam. Alles war sehr sauber, gepflegt und liebevoll eingerichtet. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die außergewöhnliche Hilfsbereitschaft der Gastgeber – jederzeit freundlich, aufmerksam und immer bemüht, den Aufenthalt so angenehm wie möglich zu gestalten. Man fühlt sich sofort willkommen und gut aufgehoben. Eine tolle Unterkunft in ruhiger Lage, die wir uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen können!
Ein kleiner negativer Punkt ist, dass man sich das Frühstück selbst zubereiten muss. Das wird jedoch mehr als ausgeglichen, da alles dafür im Kühlschrank bereitgestellt ist und es an nichts fehlt.
