Perfect stay for a weekend in Birmingham Most definitely book in again
The privacy
No staff
Location and free parking. The bath tub supplied with bath salts was a nice surprise for a soak after a long day of travelling. I like the sky light.
No physical staff on site. Checked in and parking details could be sent a day or two earlier, rather than on the day of travel. I misread the room number and had trouble obtaining the room key from the safe. Eventually noticed my mistake whilst waiting to get through to customer service on the phone. No sound proof so could hear everything happening on next door!
Proximity to the university
No plug at the desk so unable to plug laptop in to work . Surfaces were dusty .
Nice room, quiet street, several nice restaurants nearby, quiet and calm.
WiFi wasn’t the best, worked sometimes but not others. Self check in is fine but some prefer to speak to a person.
Beautifully decorated room with a wow!! Lovely building
Not too sure about not having a person in the building to help with problems but everything worked well from instructions. A bit expensive for no service
Location if fine
It is not a proper hotel, no reception, no staff. Just rooms each with own keylock. If you don't need anything other than a room than fine but not for me
Beautiful building and room
Tissues were not refilled and no plug socket near mirror to plug in hair straighteners
Comfortable room with good aircon (it was very hot!). Didn't actually meet any staff as check in via codes etc. Nice coffee place just next door.
Top floor room had no windows to see out (only sky lights) which felt a little claustrophobic but didnt really spoil the stay.
Stayed for one night for our anniversary, reservation team was amazing and provided us with their finest room, the free standing bath tub was beautiful, its a must have! Thank you guys for having us!
Cons: - TV could be better to support Netflix and movie browsing (youtube did not work) - Car park access gates can be a little tight if have a big vehicle - Neighbours or someone were smoking marijuana which the smell came into our room and disturbed our stay and sleep which led us to check out very early, we contacted the reservation team the next day for assistance but after investigation no resolution or action was taken unfortunately.
I liked the location and area. The final room we ended up with was not bad, but for a while it didnt look like we were going to get any alternative room after rejecting the room selected for us.
The top floor room was like an oven on arrival, and we couldnt open any windows. Even the bathroom which had 3 non-opening windows. We telephoned the manager who informed us that the windows opened, but you will see from the photos they have been shut for years and are filthy. How you ever air a room after guests have stayed I just have no idea. It was obvious that the manager had never visited the hotel, but was telling me all about it whilst I was there! I could hear a man in the background saying ''put the phone down'. After persuasion we were offered another room on the first floor and were promised the windows open. We couldnt see it first and were told 4 times that it would cost more. This seemed to be the main consideration. I agreed and we moved down a floor. The room was acceptable but the opening window was blocked by a huge bath, so extremely awkward to open it the permitted 6 inches! . Very surprised to see another £30.00 taken from my card
Everything aside the bathroom. Wasn't happy with the disabled like set up. Was expecting a modern approach as the bedroom was beautiful.
Bathroom
Good location, nice room and all clean and tidy
Unfortunately the people or person in room 27 directly opposite our room had the tv volume excessively high and this started again around 6:30am on Saturday morning.
Great location and good parking really beautiful rooms
A bit of noise from people banging doors but to be expected in an older property
The room itself was gorgeous. There was a lovely double bed and the bath is really the selling point of the room. The facilities (mini fridge, kettle, tea and coffee station) was lovely.
We had a couple of issues with the overall cleanliness of the place. There was a plant that had mould in, there was a plaster on the roof covering something up, and there was a dried up soap mark/stain in the shower. I am currently waiting for an email response to our complaint regarding the issues above. I believe what would improve the property, especially the room we stayed in (14) is that there be a film over the doors to exit as they go straight into the room and the only privacy is to close the blinds. With no other windows in the property, this made the space feel quite enclosed and dark. The lights didn’t work where the mirror and desk is (unless we couldn’t find the light switch, but looked everywhere).
Fab bath and great comfortable bed.
Not having staff to check you in
Well appointed rooms. Good decor and fixtures and fittings. Comfortable large bed. Well apportioned bathroom Good location. Good value for money
Loved the bathroom
The car park was not very well Signposted from the street
Beautifully decorated. Comfortable bed. Nice bathroom. Well equipped tea/coffee etc. good location.
Air con did not work at all. Control for air con was even inaccessible down the side of a heavy wardrobe. Communication with staff for help was extremely frustrating. Do not book if it is hot and you are banking on the air con like us. They should not be advertising the air Co. Staff unable to provide fans or help in the warm weather.
Firstly, this is not a hotel. Its an Airbnb, no matter how it is portrayed on Booking.com. There are no staff, there are no facilities, really is a house of multiple occupation. It initially looks very nice, until you spend time there. communal carpets need a good clean, failed lightbulbs at the top of a very dark staircase generally, a lack of care and attention. The room was very small in the loft of the building. The tap in the bathroom is hanging off, The shower head leaks all night and hasn't seen a good clean and descale in many years. If you have a need to use the toilet brush I would recommend a hazmat suit. These are basics. If the cleaner did their job, these sort of issues wouldn't be found, the guest should never find things such as this. Basics: you need to properly light staircases, especially as the staircase is the only evacuation route. Basics: The cleaner cannot miss the tap hanging out; get it reported. We did debate leaving early, but as we had a full day on the Saturday we persevered and left very early on the Sunday. Not for us this place in the region of £250 per night for a basic room I would rather use a Travelodge.
Great location, lovely room. Easy to access cafe next door. Good easy access.
WiFi was poor and meant that we could not watch the football we had planned to watch. One of the window locks was broken, my husband fixed it.
Gorgeous hotel, lovely, spacious room, appreciated the AC and mini fridge in this weather. Felt overall clean, the finer details like cups and coffee/tea selection was great. Mostly quiet, great location. Loved the shower and water quality.
While it felt clean, it seemed like the smaller details were overlooked - stains and sticky areas on carpet, spoons for tea and water bottles stained too. I enjoyed my stay, was travelling for work and unfortunately the WiFi was shockingly slow and constantly connecting and disconnecting from devices which was a downer for me.
Excellent location, easy check in, beautiful boutique hotel would absolutely recommend
Great location.
Bathrooms were beautiful
Not enough hangers
The house is nice on the outside. the facilities inside my room were clean, new and stylish.
significant difficulties getting into my room. It took my about 45 minutes at 9.30pm, and at one point i had to lie down on the floor and wait in the corridor as my feet were exhausted, waiting for the staff member to get back to me with directions for the room key. i appreciate it was out of hours, but the company should provide a more reliable entry system as i see from other reviews this is a common problem.
Cosy romantic hotel. We needed a last minute booking late at night due to being discharged from the hospital and the customer service agent was very helpful. Our room was spacious and clean. The facilities were great including robes Naf bath salts to use in the vintage bathtub in the room. Room had AC during the hot weather and a table top fan which I prefer to use. There was a fridge and iron in the room. A good selection of teas and coffee and some biscuits. I had an amazing rest after a very stressful day in A&E. Will definitely book again when we can spend more time here
Was a nice location and it did have a nice bath
Tv played up non stop had to keep turning it off and leaving it for 5 minutes then turn it back on reported it to the staff Air conditioning turned off at 4am and it was 33c heatwave this week reported it to staff who made me get up out of bed and go look for a cupboard to unlock a padlock and find a fan for the room. When I googled the problem it said the hotel had locked the air con control panel so I couldn’t reset it. It then turned back on at 8am. So I believe the hotel are turning them off in the night to save money Which is terrible in a heatwave I couldn’t get back to sleep and have been on a training course all day
Nothing
They messed up my booking
The owner cancelled my reservation. He did not contact me to let me know, just did not reply to my messages re parking/check in and when he eventually answered my call just said it was unavailable. No apology, no reason. Caution when booking this property.
Hotel was lovely, clean and quiet. They done our room set up beautifully for our anniversary. Couldn’t be any better
Nothing
The room was clean.. location is very close to the town and the university. No noise at all. The atmosphere is ok. I recommend if U look for clean place
We have stayed at this property many times with previous owners. So we knew we wanted a room on the back of the property — and not on the ground floor— so we could open a window. We specifically said we wanted to be able to open a window. We were given a room on the top floor with dormer windows that would not open. I don’t think the hotel was full so why do that? The carpet in the public spaces is getting old and tired. It was the same in our room where the carpet was dirty and needed at least a shampooing. Then there were no batteries in the TV remote. Finally, the system they’d rigged up with cheap roller blinds to keep the early morning sunlight out didn’t work and the blinds did not fully cover the windows so we were awake and gone before 6:00 am even though we were wanting to sleep. I messaged the WhatsApp about the room, the windows, the TV, the poor upkeep already so they are aware of our opinion.
Lovely and comfortable with a fantastic bath
Next time would ask for a room at the bottom (no lift )
The spacious bathroom
The cleaner is really moody towards me 🤭
Rooms are great
Nobody on site to help resolve a malfunctioning room key - resolved by telephone in the end but delayed us getting into the room
Lovely building - secure parking - comfortable and clean - they so kindly extended our parking by an extra night when attended a function in the city - icc only 20min walk from property - great communication with property
Nothing
My key card stopped working and the staff did not understand this and continued to check the machine, leaving me still trying to get access to my room at 9pm in the evening upon return from working all day. I explained a simple solution to leave me a replacement card in the lockbox while I was away. It was only when I had to make threats to take action was a solution found. This is an unmanned hotel and I had to access my room direct from outside, while it was raining. Staff were pleasant but all done by phone, nothing in person.
No staff available on site to support in cases of problem solving
Location
The cleaner make so much noise out side the room and rude
I liked how secure & private it was
The aircon didn't work & the bed was very uncomfortable
Rooms are great
Nothing
Good room as always at Edgbaston House, very clean and attractive. Didn't see any staff in our visit, just code in and that's it!
-
Very little
I hated the fact that there was nobody on a reception, nobody who could help with a problem, it made the experience feel very impersonal and isolating. The room had glass french windows as the door and did not feel secure, it was odd. I had a man knock on the door/window at 21.30 at night wanting to retrieve his mobile charger from the previous night... There was no concierge or receptionist to contact to help The tv was not a normal BBC,ITV channels and I couldn't find out how to work it, when I tried to call the call centre for help he said I've no idea I'm miles away Shower had half the water jets not working Big fans in the ceiling were noisy Did not feel like a hotel room and the man who knocked on my window had a parting shot of ....'this is a very odd room I was in it last night....' this unsettled me so I placed the ironing board and iron against the window All my friends who I have mentioned this experience to agree this was not good
Great location, very nice, spacious rooms and parking.
No staff at all. Very strange.
The room was so spacious and having a bath within the bedroom a delight. Very quiet too, and I had no fear of disturbing neighbours, rooms being well separated. The property is in a lovely area.
I missed not meeting anyone - hard to reply to your question about staff when you let yourself in and out. However, instructions for checking in and out were very clear and everything worked well.
First room we were shown (14) smelt very damp - asked to move and second room was fine .
No mini fridge
Have stayed previously
This time we were put in top floor attic rooms
The room was amazing, perfect for a birthday
Would have liked the bath in the room and staff on site.
The privacy of the room we'd asked for, due it to been my birthday. Could have not asked for a better room, it was allocated perfectly and our stay was amazing
Room is excellent with bath
Nothing
The hotel was in a very pretty neighborhood and the rooms are really nice almost posh. It is definitely a unique hotel.
The carpet could have been cleaner and is long overdue for an exchange. And the wifi was very patchy. One night the wifi did not work at all.
The room has a nice style, big room and bathroom and comfortable bed. Parking on the premise is a plus! However, the room does need upkeep. There's stains on the furniture, walls and carpet. Plus mold in the bathroom. Such a shame because the room could look so much better!
Felt unhygienic due to lack of upkeep. The neighbouring rooms can be heard, so it might be noisy.
The decor was very nice.
Even though the decor was lovely, it was also tired. It could have done with a lick of paint and some more cleaning really. Also, being self service and not getting access details until 30 minutes before we were due to arrive was a little anxiety inducing as we hadn't been to the property before. However, we did manage to successfully enter with the details provided.
Easy check in (though I had to request the specific entry instructions) and secure parking. Quiet location, good sized room, well stocked with towels, robes, water, tea/coffee. Handy for the local area and Ubers around the city.
It took a 10 minute phone call to locate some really poorly positioned light switches (crazy!) but super-helpful staff who got to the bottom of the problem.
Lovely high end design. Very cosy and quiet room on the top floor.
Found the bed and pillows too firm and didn’t have a great sleep. Communication was clear but could have come a bit sooner rather than an hour before check in.
The place has a nice style to it, bathrooms are nice and the room size is good too. Parking is quite easy to find and very secure, given it is behind a coded gate. Location is also good, a couple nice restaurants nearby and you feel right in the heart of a 'leafy' area.
The hotel is unmanned, i never realised this when booking. It didn't cause me great issue, as i understood the instructions okay, but i kept hearing people trying to check into their rooms outside mine on the phone to the hotel for help. The lock box outside of rooms is tricky to navigate, and paperthin walls means you can hear every persons struggle with checking in. The walls being thin also creates a lot of noise, luckily i was top floor so had no one above me. The lack of staff means there is no real hotel atmosphere, and it makes it feel a little un safe considering.
Beautiful property, room was clean and tastefully decorated. Loved the separate bathroom on the split level floor. Bed was comfy and spacious. Wonderful!
The room including the bath.
Lovely big room, with great facilities and carpark was excellent. Its my second stay at the Edgbaston - highly recommend
N/A
It was clean comfortable and close to were we needed to be
Nothing
Very clean and loved the 20s style decor
Lot of noise from noisy pipes in other rooms when a toilet was flushed or sink used which woke us up more than a few times in the night.....this really needs sorting by a 'professional ' number. Was very confusing where the car park was. Not clearly marked and was two buildings away. The staff lady I spoke on the phone did not seem to be able to give me directions and was confused herself as to where it was saying look for the 'gate', this was not the correct entrance on the right, I finally found it after a lot of stress . I understand it was an emergency booking as we were visiting a relative in hospital, and normally this would be made clear in the email. But a simple sign on the entrance explaining where the carpark is is a must for the future.
Beautiful room, very clean, helpful staff and very nice amenities! I would definitely recommend this hotel :)
Bathroom was good size and bed.
Fridge didn't work
Easy to access and good parking
Gate tight to get in car park
Parking and location of the hotel. Bathroom excellent, larger than the norm.
Poor kettle, lack of milk provided. The mattress could be better.. Floor carpet needs renewing.
It was clean and tidy. Tv didnt work correctly on the youtube app at all with/without using a mobile pairing in addition.
The heating still doesnt work. This affects the underfloor heating around the bath and bathroom. I have stayed here before. This is my 3rd time staying. I have even been put in this same room my last 2 times I have stayed. In december I complained about the heating in the room. It is now March and after staying again, suffered 2 nights without any heating/cooling. This shows that it is not down to USER ERROR.
Nothing!
It felt tired and old. Also and perhaps I didn’t look at the website closely enough, but there are no staff working at this hotel. You check yourself in via codes, and there is no reception or anything. This would be ok and the bedroom was clean enough but all the common parts (stairs!) were dirty. The bed wasn’t particularly comfy. Windows were dirty etc. We also had a room facing the road and it was very noisy.
Very comfortable stay, clean and tidy
I booked this to celebrate my partners birthday and was unsure on where to go so I went off reviews on booking.com. This was the best stay we have been to so far!! So clean and great atmosphere. It had a gated carpark also which was easy to find following instructions. I had requested if anything could be in the room for my partners birthday and they had offered to do balloons at a small fee but I wasn’t overly fussed. However when we got there they had done an amazing birthday display on the bed with towels and rose petals and it was truly magical. I would 100% stay here again and refer people to this place.
