The rooms are generously sized and the bed and shower were both great. My room was on the third floor and there's no elevator. The system they have where you contact Reception through WhatsApp doesn't seem to be reliable, try and get the direct number to text/call. The young woman at reception was very apologetic and tried to take good care of me. I like the idea of a record player in the room but mine didn't work. There is no TV. The room was lovely and quiet but did look straight into someone's kitchen next door. The area is kind of student-y with Uni of Toronto very close. Walking distance to the subway and the Royal Ontario Museum.
In a super cute neighbour hood, really cute place. Would stay again!
Great staff saved it from a lower rating. They were awesome and appreciated their help, but would not stay here again. I feel like it was a cheaply done "cool" remodel that has not been maintained and is in need of a refresh. It felt dingy and everything was a little worn or off. My toilet was not cleaned, like brown splatters kinda not clean, and they immediately moved me and handled it well, but still - doesn't give you a good feeling. Also, maybe they put me in the worst room, but there was a water bubble and hole in the ceiling, a broken blind, stains all on the wall, all the artwork frames were bent or broken, and general griminess that I don't want. Despite good staff, wont ever go back.
Loved the location, was able to walk around to different places I had on my list to visit. Appreciated the free coffee upon my early departure.
Was great! Checking in was unique, but I enjoyed the experience
Didn’t like how close the door was to the bed in the small room but everything else was nice and felt like a boutique hotel.
Nice neighborhood
Beautiful! Went above and beyond my expectations and the view from my room was second to none. Thank you so much for such a peaceful stay! Can’t wait to return!!
Super quaint boutique hotel. Funky rooms with exposed brick walls. Love the cafe and restaurant right on site. Subway station a couple blocks away. Will definitely stay here again.
Enjoyed my stay. The only minor inconvenience was opening the fridge and receiving a charge despite taking nothing. Luckily, I was able to get it resolved thanks to the amazing staff!
It’s just a lovely comfortable place to stay.
It was fantastic
A very boutique experience. Clean, and well appointed. Comfortable platform bed with large shower/wet bath space. Lobby is intimate with helpful, friendly staff.
An unexpected stay in a great and quiet location
The location is good, but the Hotel is very noisy. Around 5pm to 11 pm, there was a continuous music playing under our room ang the boom boom of the base was very annoying. They must know this is a problem because they give you earplugs but these do not help. Other than that, an adequate stay.
Great location
Very clean, neat and easy checking in
Unique, edgy accommodations. I would recommend the Annex to friends and family should they visit Toronto.
I love this hotel but this time the service was not as good. Perhaps new management but waited hours for a dog package promised at check in. Still amazing best beds etc
Great quirky location will be back
Usually the property is quite clean and good. But recently it is less
A charming boutique hotel with a lovely staff in a great location. People should know there is no elevator ( tho the staff was very helpful with our suitcases). Some design flaws in our room: you have to walk thru the shower to get to the toilet (potentially slippery ), overhead nightlights high up and hard to reach the switch, interior steps in the room that require attentive walking. No closet or drawer space. One side of the bed (very comfortable otherwise) against the wall. Overall chic, welcoming, but some impractical features in the rooms.
Great location and beautifully designed. Some elements are starting to show their age and could use from TLC.
Great staff and facilities
During the day, The Annex area is quirky and interesting with tonnes of very good graffiti art. But, there was no place close or open for breakfast and I’m not sure I’d want to stray too far from the hotel after dark. But there are tonnes of restaurants nearby for dinners.
Lovely place
As other reviewers have mentioned, this place is loud. I have lived in large cities my whole life and like to think I can handle a lot of noise, but The Annex is ridiculous. There was a dj blaring music until midnight on a Sunday, making my floor and bed vibrate with bass until the event was over. Then the hallway noise started early the next morning. There is no insulation. I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone. On the plus side, the beds are comfortable.
Very modern and nice
At no fault of the hotel, others staying on our floor were very loud at night. Found some garbage left behind in our room.
Beautiful rooms and great location.
When I came, the people at the front desk were very helpful. Somebody offered to bring one of my bags up to my room. And then when I went to my room, unfortunately the sink was clogged and somebody came right away to fix it and my room ended up being really great!
I really.love the cool vibe if this hotel So easy toncheck in and out. Staff are great! Love the bar and lounge area, record player and records in room. Lots of space and natural light. Lovely toiletries. The only thing better would be some sort of parking deal closer, more than 2 thin towels in the room, a steamer or iron in the closet, and netter shower ( it was constantly hit and cold and leaked into the bathroom). But we would stay here again in a minute! Location is so great for subway, restaurants, etc
Good
Not a terrible stay, but not great. The aesthetic is simple loft living, but the owner's seem to have used that as an excise to allow for genuine dilapidation: mold in the shower grout, peeling paint, the ceiling sagging. Also, the AC system was so loud and inconsistent that it switched to "auto" despite being set for "always on" and woke me up several timea throughout the night as it struggled to turn back on (I'm not a light sleeper).
All around excellent hotel option. Great location and amenities, lobby, free coffee in the morning is ah-plus, clean & tidy rooms. The only shortcoming was that the tiled shower needs a deep, thorough cleaning as the floor & lower part of the wall was getting black with mildew. All and all I recommend.
Everyone there was very nice and helpful. The room had a combination of LPs and books that I really enjoyed relaxing to in the evening. Super comfy bed.
Everything was perfect!
Great stay! Front desk staff were super kind and helpful. The room was spacious and clean and provided everything I needed. Great location, too!
We stayed here for 2 nights for our first trip to Toronto. It was a a nice spot for a good price.
Huge room, comfortable bed, minimalist and chic furnishings. This hotel is in what I imagine was an industrial building. It was a little tattered in places (paint hanging off the bathroom ceiling, corridors drab). Service is efficient but surprisingly minimal (don’t expect a manned check in desk or to have your room serviced).
Experience was immaculate! Bed was so comfortable and IPad and record player were very nice additions to the room. The bathroom layout was interesting with the toilet and bathtub being in one area and the sink in another, but overall it was very nice!
Style
Very interesting concept for a hotel. Seamless online check in. Got access codes for door entrance and room. Got WiFi connections. Room very spacious, good quality bedding and toiletries. Nice downstairs cafe for a breakfast. The area is very pleasant, lots of cafes.
The staff were very friendly and they accommodated to our needs. I would note that the hotel doesnt have an elevator so you will need to carry your luggage up the stairs. The look of the room is very modern, quite clean but the bathroom doesnt feel clean so I would recommend bringing shower slippers.
amazing first time great for seeing the city and enjoying whats around would 100% come back
I really loved my stay. The annex staff & the neighborhood were my favorite parts
The staff are fantastic! Always a great stay.
The property and staff were fantastic. The only issue was a rather bad leak from the rain in our room. It was addressed the first day, but I unfortunately continued to leak the remaining days. Not the worst thing, but we did have to keep a trash can in front of the bathroom door so slightly inconvenient.
Great stay but wish there was in room coffee or the cafe downstairs opened by 7 am- we had an early flight. Great room and design
Continently located to UofT. Easy subway access. Self checkin was handy and efficient. Communication through email was effective and easy.
Clean room,
Room was spacious, good for two people to stay. Relatively walkable distance. Very cute neighborhoods.
Delightful boutique hotel in nicely renovated old brick building. Great neighbourhood and very friendly staff.
I really liked staying in a small, boutique hotel situated in a neighbourhood. I would return and am recommending The Annex to anyone looking for a unique and confortable stay in Toronto.
Lovely spot close to so much! Very clean and super nice staff.
Loved the hotel overall very cute but a few hiccups along the way. I travelled for work and considering the lobby is closed until 8, nespresso in the room would be great. Loved the toiletries nice touch. Bar man was super great. Had not noticed there was no elevator when I booked. My back is not great and had someone offered to help with my bags, it would have been appreciated, can’t go wrong to ask. The resto could use more food options aside from pizza. The neighbourhood has many pizza options already. Maybe ramen or a couple easy salads. Or a few ready made meal options. There is so little food available it would at least be nice to be able to order and eat downstairs with your colleagues, we didn’t feel like going out and asked, unfortunately was not possible and we had pizza night prior. . It was nice to see trees from my room, a little greenery goes a long way. Finally, I did have a pretty serious incident occur which I won’t get into here. The manager reached out to me and was very professional. That being said, I was not offered anywhere near the appropriate level of compensation for the disruption or trouble caused -not by a guest, but by the hotel, impacting my trust in the establishment as well as my sense of safety and security and that of guests. Im still left dumbfounded by the situation and the steps that were taken to compensate me. I feel this hotel could be great, simply missing a few key details.
Boutique style hotel, rooms adequate for our stay. Staff extremely friendly and go out of their way to assist. Bar area well stocked and bar staff very obliging to serve Overall a clean, well presented hotel.
A unique little property downtown Toronto. Staff is very friendly rooms were very modest but comfortable. Public parking close by walking distance to dozens of attractions.
Liked location and room layout. Didn't realize no elavator.
Lovely space; towels were soft, toiletries were very nice, and a cozy bed! Parking behind is very expensive, and while there is no time to explore on my visit, it's a great lively neighbourhood
We really enjoyed are stay at the Annex. Great location, easy check-in and out, clean and quiet.
What a treat to stay here in Toronto! The space felt so calming and comfortable, with interesting design elements and simplicity of the space without lacking personality. It was genuinely one of the best stays I've had across Canada.
Lovely staff, and a perfect location
Rooms were modern and fun. The vinyl selection for the record player could have been better.
Great location, clean room, very comfy bed.
Love the Annex Hotel. They need to do a deep cleaning of the bathroom/shower tiling. It would also be amazing if there could be designated parking spots in the Lippencot Green P for hotel guests.
It was difficult to crawl over the bed to get in and out due to lack of space around the bed. Reading lights inaccessible from the bed to shut off. No place to put a suitcase except on the floor. The hanging closet is behind the door and one cannot open the closet door completely due to the door stop being in the way. The large empty space in the middle of the room could be put to better use to address these issues. The hotel is quiet, clean and within easy walking distance of our events. Front desk staff were accommodating to our lack of technology expertise for checkin and out.
The rooms were above average
Loved the vibe and the convenience but unfortunately the air vent in the ceiling in room 310 was so loud my husband had trouble sleeping and when I showered there was no hot water left for me :(
Parking was way too expensive.
good
Would stay here again
Great location to stay in if you want to be in a real neighbourhood. Very vibrant.hotel has a cool vibe
Great atmosphere and welcoming staff
The Annex has really modern rooms and is reasonably priced. Definitely worth every penny staying here. The staff are very polite and courteous. The wine bar is amazing. Great place to unwind and enjoy some food and drinks. Really good coffee here too.
Perfect stay at The Annex, everyone was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Checked in online so I had a code for the door and it was all super easy, even though there was a reception and someone was there to help if needed. Bed was really comfortable, which after a long flight was very welcome. Lovely neighbourhood and great cafe/bar downstairs. 3 minute walk to the metro, but a world away from downtown
This was a wonderful place to stay! Right in the heart of the Annex and super close to the ROM and UofT. Easy check-in and out through your own device.
A very cool place to stay with great vibe. Numerous restaurants around and on the edge of Toronto’s famous Bloor St. Room was well fitted and far from conventional - perfect for solo travelling as well as couples - staff very helpful. Definitely stay again.
great location. a bit pricey for what you get...
Great place, always happy when I come here the best hotel in the area and maybe in Toronto
Spacious fun room
Comfortable and clean accomodations. I visited to see a concert at the Axis Club and enjoyed sleeping in a quieter area of the city than some other options. The only thing I missed was having a coffee maker in the room, but staff let me know afterward that coffee and tea was available for guests. Wish I got that note ahead of time but maybe I missed it! Overall excellent experience anyways and would stay again. The room smelled beautifully as well which is noteworthy in an older building especially!
I just really like it here. Particularly the staff. I mean the rooms are great but the staff, to a person, just make me feel welcome.
I love that everything is a text message away. Staff are prompt and always so pleasant. Check in is a breeze and the rooms are amazing
The Annex is a trendy & quiet place, with easy access from Union! We loved the unique artwork and design of the room. Also the HUGE windows and all of the light! There were so many great restaurants and cafés to choose from as well as bars and music. We wnjoyed the coffee and breakfast in the cafe in the morning, and the staff were very kind. Highly recommend! We will be staying again.
It was such a unique and lovely experience. Thank you to the staff. I enjoy the fact that there was a record player however I think there was a heating issue in our room where it was pretty hot besides that it was an amazing experience.
Very easy check in process. Walkable to great food options. The staff was very informative and professional. I will be staying here again
Great stay, great atmosphere, kind staff, quiet rooms, abundance of food options as soon as you exit the hotel.
You don’t need to stay in a chain hotel. This place is close to everything, it’s clean and there’s plenty of parking for a fee. Beds are very comfortable.
It’s stylish, it’s cute, the check in and check out process is easy and the staff is lovely. The air in the room is a little too dry and too warm for my liking, but I was able to adjust the temperature before going to sleep. Great option if you are going out in the area. Does it worth $300/night?! Provably not…but everything costs an outrageous amount these days and you gotta pay people to run it. I have stayed here twice now and will likely do so again. It is a great option in the Annex neighbourhood!
Fantastic boutique hotel and the staff are awesome! Great room, very clean and functional, and the shower is amazing!! No TV in my room and at first I was a bit disappointed...but I picked up one of the books in the room and I will finish the novel on my 3rd night! Have 2 more nights to try more of the terrific restaurants on Bloor street. Thanks to Lyian for working her magic to book my stay on 5 days short notice! I will definitely stay here next year when I am in town for PDAC conference. Cheers, G
Great place to stay
The speakers and comfortable bed
It was just okay. You get what you pay for. Cleanliness was subpar, the rooms feel like a DIY job of low quality, yet trendy carpentry - think plywood with exposed heads of deck screws throughout the room. Ceiling paint is flaking off in the bathroom. No elevator. I was disturbed while I was sleeping by an attendant knocking repeatedly at my door who needed to replace batteries in my door lock mechanism. The walls have poor sound-proofing, which I attribute to the older building. I could hear a family in the hotel either next door, or beneath me - every single word of their conversation. Furthermore, I could hear footsteps in the hallway all hours, even with my headphones in the vibrations of footsteps could be felt. It’s suitable for a short stay, and if attention to detail and cleanliness doesn’t matter too much.
This may seem a little strange...but I have not stayed there yet BUT I just had a fantastic experience with an employee at Annex. I tried to book online but the internet was fighting me...so I call the from dest and Lilian answered and in 15 minutes she had me booked at a great price, and now I am really looking forward to my stay later this week. THX Lilian- and I can not believe it is only your second week on the job!! Great work!! Cheers, Graeme
The Annex was chosen for convenience. I think it is overpriced for what you get. The bed is comfy, the fan for the heat was the loudest I have ever heard(several complaints in past on this). There is no heat in the shower, which also has a toilet - unique. They charged us for someone else bar items, and offered no apology. They did refund that part after an investigation, but expectation would be drinks on them for this inconvenience. I would not recommend, but if you come, bring ear plugs, and don't expect much friendliness from staff. SC
