Friendly staff, great location, good value for money
Nothin to dislike
Comfortable bed, welcoming staff and good food both for evening meal and breakfast. This is third time I have stayed here.

A comfortable room that was good value for money. well located and plenty of parking. Breakfast offering was a good variety with hot food cooked to order.
Nothing that stood out.
Good location
All good
Location
The comfort of the mattress was poor. My partner has had a bad back and neck since staying
Good service great food
Nothing really
The accommodation is completely separate to the pub itself and the windows keep out any noise. The pub food was lovely and the staff were really friendly. There are lots of offers on food and drinks. The room was very clean and tidy, the bed was comfortable and there is a good retail park nearby.
The only tiny issue is no sockets by the beds to charge phones, BUT there are usb sockets in the room so not the end of the world!
Comfortable room and bed, good powerful shower. Location good being next to the pub and Kingsway shopping centre also for being near my family in Mickleover.
We stayed during the heatwave and there wasn't a fan in the room luckily my husband had brought one with him or it would have been unbearable. The bathroom could do with hooks to hang towels from.
Confortable and quiet to have a restful night to continue my trip. Clean and the staff was very kind to me, traveling alone that is very appreciated.
The location was perfect as my daughter only lives across the road & we was visiting
Bathroom :- needs a good deep clean around taps etc !!! Bedroom needs sockets by the bed / bigger tv/ air con Needs Bedside table both sides
Comfy bed
A fan that kept Me awake .
It was what we needed for a over night stay for a wedding at a different location. Only small thing is tbe reception is at the pub. So its a walk around the place after you walk in and find you have to go to the pub to check in.
The hotel is separate to the pub with 24 hour key card access - plenty of parking - rooms clean and comfortable - staff very friendly and helpful - Gemma was really nice - easy to find off the A38 / Ring Road.
No issues for us with anything here.
Easy booking in procedure. All staff very professional, helpful and friendly. Good size room which was clean and bed comfortable. Special thank you to the housekeeping team. Perfect location for travelling to a wedding venue

It was near a retail park where we could get a Greggs n Sainsbury oetrol.
Toilet sink faulty. Fire Alarm at 7 am. EV charger not working for type 2

It was nice
Yes its worth it was nice
location great - easy to find and ideal for where i was going
A Marstons Pub with no MARSTONS or any other beer - on Saturday night of a Bank Holiday weekend. said had ran out and only offered lager and cider. Misleading food signs outside pub - said carvery every night till 8pm - but when I enquired service for carvery finished at 7pm. Room ok what I expected but mould around bath and shower head. Not good.
Close to city centre.
Staff always friendly. Facilities are great. Amazing pub too!
Price
Location, hotel side was actually ok 👍.
Since we last visited, WOW how bad the bar/food side gone downhill, and that’s no reflection on the staff(they were great). Makes you wonder if Molsten Coors(Marston’s) cares about proper pub hospitality.
Breakfast was very good. The staff was friendly.
The room wasn't clean. Could not turn the TV off with the control. One of the bedside light did not work.
Room was ok
Food
Very good

Ideal place near the hospital . 10 mins walk
Window barely opened .. no fan in room. Screaming hot
Very affordable for August compared to other hotels
Nothing to dislike
Great price room was big and comfy apart from that lovely stay would go back again great location for the wedding we attended
The shower didnt work great and nozzle wasn't on the bath to turn off
Brilliant staff, good location as I was working at the university, I’ve stayed for a month for work which was a great experience, the pub/ bistro is great, good atmosphere great selection of beers & the menu is good & reasonable priced , the staff were great under trying conditions as it was really hot in the restaurant/bar as there was no air conditioning
Air conditioning in the restaurant & bar as when I stayed it was 30 degrees the restaurant/bar was very warm with the carvery going,
Convenient location, plenty of parking.
Room was not clean. Hairs in bathroom and bed. Hadn't been hoovered for a while, dust visible along skirting and around bed base. Long wait at bar/restaurant as no staff around.
Personal very kind and friendly, clean room, big comfy bed.
Non
Friendly staff Cavary veggies were re-served from lunch a bit shrivelled
Room was ok but very tired couch was thread bare shower and curtains had black mould
Location for city centre is very good, easily walkable. Convenient pub food and carvery available onsite
Rooms, especially bathrooms are tired and need some tlc. No aircon
Location
The Restaurant and Bar were excellent. We had 2 evening meals with drinks, the meals were very good, the staff and service excellent. Breakfast was good for the price, service very good.
The room was a let down. Toilet bin not emptied from previous occupant and quite full. Toilet seat broken and dangerous, I asked a member off staff, if he had got a screwdriver I could borrow to mend it, upon explanation he said he would get it mended straight away, This never happened. The carpet was in dire need of vacuuming. There was no Housekeeping during our stay.
Staff were all very polite and accommodating, food was standard Marstons pub grub, but everything did come out piping hot. Ideal location for our visit to Darley Abbey.
Room wasn't cleaned and prepared from the previous visitor when we got to our room. The staff were very apologetic and we were swiftly moved to another room. 2nd night sleep was disturbed by someone smoking weed outside of our window at 1-2 in the morning and there was a fainter smell of weed in the corridors leading to the exit.
The property was clean, inviting and the staff were really friendly and welcoming.
The taps didn’t go cold only warm but it wasn’t anything that bothered me too much
Great location, room clean and bed really comfy. Staff all helpful and friendly. Great amenities with the attached pub. Lovely lunch and breakfast.
Clean, quiet , friendly.
Difficulty in operating shower control, very stiff And very hard to turn off (room 3) completely Unable to divert water to the bath, tap diverter not working. But shower was powerful Just hard to turn off and on.
Great location and staff are very friendly. Parking easy too for the property which whilst basic has everything you need for a short stay.
Nothing
Easy check in
Booked a room with twin beds and was given 1 double bed, however management managed to arrange splitting the beds and given more bedding and compensated for this despite asking when checked in to confirm it was a twin room
The stuff were friendly
The cleanliness
Location
Cleaning was total hit and miss Room not hoovered Bathroom toilet and sink still dirty
Staff friendly and usually helpful
Hot water in bathroom sink not adequate to shave in. Springs on doors too strong for older people. And keys kept going wrong and needing replacement. Room service not up to usual standard. Staff need to be given more time to do the job properly
Location and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Food was lovely. Good value for money and lots of choice. Had breakfast and evening meal.
Excellent staff, they were all friendly, welcoming and helpful. comfy bed, food in the pub was good.
No air-con, it was very hot when we stayed, rooms on the front of the hotel were unbearable, rooms at the back are much cooler, luckily they managed to move us for the second night.
Comfy bed, good facilities, lovely staff
Bit pricey i think for what there is
The room is perfect, clean tidy & lovely mattress
Great location - close to the hospital, town centre, retail park and pub with good food, the carvery has a wonderful selection. The chefs do an amazing job. There is a play area for kids and lots of parking spaces. Good value for money Very friendly and helpful staff Comfortable rooms
Nothing to not like
Location, have stayed many times before and it has been ok, staff in the pub were very good, check in was efficient and polite despite it being only the young lady's second day.
Not very clean, carpets dusty along edges and corners, shower curtain dirty. Building needs refurbishing, 3 of the 4 bedside / wall lights had no bulb or damaged bulb which posed a danger, furniture in poor condition and floor creaky, only one bedside table, bathroom door didn't shut fully, room smelled musty and bathroom had smell of drains. badly needs a maintenance inspection. Marston's should be totally embarrassed by this establishment. It may be cheap but it has really gone down hill, i cannot imagine staying here again unless i read of vast improvements.
The food was nice
The bath was broken and I ended up having a fall there

Cleanliness
My colleagues stayed at hotel for work numerous times and would highly recommend.
Staff great and helpful. Rooms clean and everything you need. Breakfast was good. Pub on site had great selection and reasonable rates. Overall good stay
Not enough pillows in the room
Location ideal for ring road and central Derby. Pub next door for meals and drinks. Free car parking. Close to retal park / supermarket. Very reasonably priced.
Facilities were average but acceptable for the cost.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good and well priced. Room was well laid out and clean.
We have stayed here many times and the location and food are good.
When we arrived in our room the toilet was dirty and there were numerous old stains on the toilet seat. We complained about the seat and the manager said he would replace it with a new one. We left and it had not been replaced. Not good. The seat should have been replaced before we arrived in my opinion. Come on Marston Inns pull your socks up.
Staff and management very friendly and helpful (room 12)
Nothing
Good size room, friendly staff, good breakfast in an good location
Easy to locate
No toilet roll, dogs barking which affected sleep, handle on toilet door came off so partner had no privacy because door couldn’t be shut
Location to hospital, food available, friendly staff, clean and basic for overnight stay or few days
Nothing
Comfortable, clean easy access
No essential, an Iron maybe, and I am.sure if I had asked for.o e , It would be supplied, but its the going out of way to ask
Friendly staff, good value, close to shops and the adjoining pub is convenient for hot meals
The cleanliness of the room. The original first floor room we were in had a faulty door lock, a manager had to be called to force the lock for us to get out as it had completely jammed. The second room we were allocated had cob webs, crumbs all over the floor and mouldy silicone around the bath.
No internet
Easy to get to Clean tidy rooms though bathroom needs an upgrade
Bathroom floor damaged and bathroom needs upgrade Dogs allowed which is fine but dog barked all night till early hours in room next door Maybe a rule of not leaving dogs unattended and maybe porter checked for noise issues
Really easy parking, easy check in - friendly staff
Tv was very small and old
Was the cheapest i could find with a bath anywhere in Derby.
Floors needed a bit more vacuuming.
The accommodation was clean, quiet and comfortable.
Pre-covid I used to stay here frequently. This was our first return in around 6 years. The breakfast side of things was underwhelming. On our first day, there were no eggs/bacon/mushrooms because of a delivery failure. We ended up at the Co-op buying a bacon roll. We asked for a refund for the pre-paid breakfast but are unsure whether this was ever sorted out. The next morning, the same member of staff with whom we had dealt regarding the refund, behaved as if she had never set eyes on us before. Disappointing.
The pub was nice and staff was very friendly. Good location Nice place for breakfast
The toilet mark / strain on toilet seat but it got resolved when I complained to the stuff about it.
The location was key for us. We had a funeral to attend the following day. The staff tried hard to put right things which were wrong. There was no internet during our stay, which made the email later discovered about how we could check in and check out online rather ironic. The room was clean. We had everything we needed for the overnight stay. The manager tried hard to come up with a remote for the TV and removed a broken bulb in a bedside lamp. He also offered us a drink to offset the inconvenience. The staff were pleasant, kind and helpful. The breakfast item was redone on request without fuss.
The lack of internet was a big disappointment. We were told it was being reset but it was not operating during our stay.
Quiet and clean
parking was tight bushes need trimming, TV did not seem to have sub titles, sink took time to drain
Good location, great free parking. Also the block of rooms is a nice distance across the car park from the pub, so I couldn't hear the fun of the World Cup match, which went on late and I'm sure get very loud.
Through no fault of yours, it was the hottest night of the year so far, in the middle of a heatwave, and the windows only open an inch and a half. So, despite the fan that you'd laid on, it was impossible to get any cool air into the room. Hottest night I've spent in years, naked on top of the sheets and still baking. This is not a problem that will recur for another 11 months, I should imagine.
Ideal location and stuff were very personal and extremely accommodating .

Was een heel schoon en betaalbare hotel. Personeel was heel vriendelijk
Een mini bar zou heel fijn zijn
Nice cheap room .free wifi and clean. Staff very friendly .food was reasonable and breakfast was good.
Drinks are expensive,
Fantastic location. Staff were amazing.
Air conditioning in rooms required due to heat waves experianced during travel
The staff were friendly
The hotel room had black mold on the curtains and window. Holes in wall with residue on skirting board showing it hadn’t been cleaned Toilet was black and discoloured Cups hadn’t been cleaned properly and had old coffee around the rims Tea spoons not cleaned properly Tray not cleaned properly Smelt of mold The cleaning team need to be trained how to clean, not only for comfort but health and safety
That the manager tried to find me a room elsewhere
That 3 hours before I was due to arrive they cancelled the booking as booking.com overbooked so not only did I have to pay to stay elsewhere they are also delaying communicating with booking.com so that I can be refunded the money I paid to stay in this hotel when it was fully booked they blamed booking.com but the lack of communication shows poor leadership skills and absolutely disgusting customer service skills
Large room ,comfortable excellent value for money Staff very friendly and helpful
Room a bit too warm
We paid £46 for the night. Had never stayed in a Marstons "hotel" before. The room was excellent and very much Premier Inn and Travelodge design and standard - so we were absolutely chuffed. Plenty of car parking. Pub food was very good. Would happily stay there again.
The bathroom was a little "tired". The extractor fan ( room 36 ) was clogged with lumps of dust. The tap on the bath had a know missing leaving a sharp bit missing. A complaint I have of all hotels...............WHY can't you leave instructions on how to work the shower....eventually I worked it out !.
Very clean, friendly staff.
Very comfortable bed and accessible location. Also, very friendly and helpful staff, and taxi links.
Towels and coffee could have been replenished more frequently.
Good location breakfast was good
some of staff weren't very helpful though I must say not all of the them.
location
room dirty, bathroom door kicked in, taps in bathroom dirty, room not cleaned towels not changed no bag in waste bin, toilet dirty
Good location
There was holes in the bathroom door Room was dirty Bath taps came off I'm my hand We only had half a toilet roll on our room asked for some and didn't receive any we had to buy our own. There was vodka bottles behind the sofa Our toddler scratched his leg on the shadow bathroom door ..... Very disappointed
Staff and local
Hole in bathroom door. Air conditioning was not working. Had a room stuck at 25 degrees and a fan stuck in corner. Food was terrible. And our room key didn’t work when we got back to the hotel at 1-30 in the morning took a long time to find someone to let us in .
Staff in pub and restaurant were very welcoming and accommodating. Clean sheets. Clean good sized fluffly towels.
Poor basic cleanliness. Cobwebs. How difficult is it to hover right up to the skirting board? Mugs not very clean. Only 1 tea spoon. Only 1 coffee sachet. Toilet not clean. Sink taps very loose, needed two hands to operate. No anti slip bath matt or hand rails. Lots of spare pillows to choose from but with no pillow cases! No where to put shoes or bags except on floor or dodgy settee.
Very clean and tidy
All ok
The position was what was we needed
The staff were okay but thin on the ground. There was a leak in our room (22) so any other guests using this accommodation should see that this was repaired as we reported this on leaving.
Well located, clean and very good value. The food was good, and all of the staff were friendly and helpful.
Location ideal for visiting family. Liz was so pleasant and helpful. I am coeliac and the staff were very accommodating.
We booked in for 6 nights and every night I was kept awake by a dog barking all through the night. Unfortunately, I will not book into King's Highway again if this dog is still around. Such a pity, we have been many times.
Great location for us and the staff were so kind and helpful.
Nothing
The staff are helpful and friendly, the room was large and very clean. And the location was perfect for us . Free parking with plenty of spaces
Air con
Room bed comfortable,
The general standards have dropped in past 2yrs, carvery quality of meats, and presenting of veg 7 out of 10 times are dry hard conditions . Gen cleaning of bar area ,poor . Staff are lead by poor training by poor management, in my opinion over past few visits there. Used to be 100% years ago, have been using it to stay for 8years , but the standards past 2 years has gone down hill , last time l will stay ,or eat in this place . Needs new management, retrain staff .
Staff are friendly, bed was comfy.
Checked in as a group as we was attending a wedding nearby, friends room wasn't clean and there was a nice little surprise in their toilet, staff did change the room. There was no air con so it felt like a sauna as you can't open the windows very wide. Also seen a rat by the hotel entrance a couple of times.
Spacious room
1st room heating wasn't working and curtains hanging off the rails
Location & value for money.
Room was dusty. Crockery dusty & Mug badly cracked. Carpet not look hoovered.

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
6/10Mixed reports — several guests praised spotlessly clean rooms, but multiple specific complaints (dirty toilet seat, cobwebs, crumbs, mouldy sealant, dusty floors) reduce the overall cleanliness assessment.
Service
9.3/10Consistently praised: numerous mentions of friendly, helpful staff and management, easy check-in and attentive assistance (manager called to help with a jammed door).
Location
9/10Very positive: repeatedly noted as convenient for hospital, ring road, central Derby, close to shops and retail park, easy parking and near an on-site pub.
Room Quality
7.2/10Generally comfortable and clean with good beds and adequate layout, but some rooms are basic with small/old TV, occasional maintenance issues (toilet door handle, damaged bathroom floor) and lack of bedside sockets/air con.
Amenities
6.5/10Mixed to below-par: positives include on-site pub and free parking, but several mentions of no internet, no bedside sockets for CPAP, no AC/fan, limited in-room extras (iron often absent) and occasional missing supplies.
Value for Money
8.5/10Frequently described as good value and reasonably priced; guests noted reasonable rates, free parking and acceptable facilities for the cost.
Food and Beverage
8.3/10Positive mentions of breakfast being good and the on-site pub offering a good selection at reasonable prices; food praised as well priced and satisfactory by multiple guests.
Overall Experience
8.4/10Overall positive tenor with repeat bookings and recommendations from many guests, tempered by recurring cleanliness and amenity issues that prevent a top score.
