Strange feeling to the hotel overall when we arrived, very empty with limited furnishings but many many adverts and posters for the company who had recently bought the hotel. Parking was difficult to locate and I would not recommend using if you have a large car as the entrance road was tiny. Our room, room 12, was on the ground floor and was directly next to both the staff room and the car park with us having a door in the room which could access the car park, the room was also strange with a middle room having an almost kitchen set up minus the cooking appliances but having many storage cupboards, it seemed to be a converted concierge room. On night one of our stay the fire alarm was set off due to another guest and the overnight receptionist seemed unsure how to turn off the alarm or gave us aologies in the morning for us being woken up, the morning after we then had difficulty with our hot water in the room and discovered that the shower had been fitted incorrectly with the cold side being hot and vice versa. On night two of our stay we were continually kept awake from 4 in the morning by constant noise in the landing and in the car park and the smell of marijuana from outside too. The bed was decent but not brilliant and the pillows were particularly lumpy and small. Overall I wouldn't stay again.

To say it's "tired" is an understatement. The staff seem to be doing what the can with the premises but the place is a dump. The rooms smell, there was woodlice and precious occupants' hair on the bathroom floor. This is clearly an underinvested, poorly run hotel.

Location is alright and there was parking - it would be good if they shared the parking location beforehand as my satnav took me to the front. Had to make a big loop around due to the one way system in the town centre to come back to the right turning.
It’s really run down. I can tell they have tried their best to clean it but the carpets are worn out and filthy. The bathroom smelled of mold. Hot water didn’t work properly. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly but the hotel feels like it hasn’t been redecorated this century.
Very central and close to where I needed to be for my particular visit
Very tired and in desperate need for a makeover, carpets were nearly thread bare and very outdated

know there's nothing you can do about the heat, but the hotel is not up to par in cleanliness and service. we stayed 4 nights and I didn't receive room care or new towels any of the days. the first day someone did come in and empty the trash but didn't leave clean towels. When I inquired I was told I could go get them myself in the back room. The carpets are dirty and un kept and the hotel needs lots of repairs.

Staff very helpful and friendly. Room very hot in summer and they found me a fan!
Well.. this is a 3 star hotel and it shows. Decoration and much else needs updating and repairing. WC cistern trickled water 24 hours a day and night. Shower head was held to wall by a cable tie and the shower mixer was only attached by the water pipes - not securely screwed to the wall. Sliding shower door was half hanging off and sliding it to get in was a learning experience.
Bathroom light comes on automatically so you'll get your eyeballs frazzled at 3am if you need to go for a pee.
No food or drink facilities in hotel at all.

My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The ensuite shower was clean and everything worked. There was a fridge and crockery provided which was nice.
The staff were friendly and helpful. I couldn't fault them at all.
,there was no desk or anywhere to sit down and write or work in my room..
The wooden frame around the window was completely rotten and look like it was going to fall out at some point soon.
The communal areas are shabby and the public area carpet is really awful. My advice would be to change the carpet immediately and put a fresh coat of paint on the communal areas ASAP. They teally lower the tone of the whole place.
Good location. Good value. Spacey room.
Leaky toilet reservoir. Broken shower stall and shower head. Unpleasant odor in the bathroom.
Once we were upgraded to a family room I was happier with the accommodation and facilities.
It’s a run down old hotel no doubt but was perfect for what we needed it for.
So close to town and buses which we used.
We were also able to park there for free too.
I’d recommend a family room regardless of the number saying.
Fridge, cutlery etc all provided.

Reviewed Jul 20, 2026The rooms are spacious, with the needed basics of bed, sofa, wardrobe. Comes with a mini fridge and microwave and plates/glasses. Didn't use it but also has a TV if wanted. Fan was included which was very welcome with the recent temperatures. Bright bathroom with soap and showergel/shampoo and towels. Ample plugs available for charging and powering devices. Right next to city centre so nice and easy to go around and do some shopping/exploring of the place.
The beds were not the most comfortable, I feel like the mattresses could be a little better if possible, especially as the double rooms was just two single beds pushed together, which made a noticeable hard dent between the two beds.

Very tired looking room. Passable for a night on my own.
Central Hotel Cheltenham is in a grade 2 listed Georgian building. I like being somewhere with a bit of history. It also has a carpark (accessed from road, which runs behind the hotel) which is unusual for hotels in this area although it is on a first come first serve basis we arrived on Friday evening, and it was practically empty. The staff were very friendly and helpful while the hotel itself was old. The bathroom looked a brand spanking new.
I guess the hotel is a little shabby, but it’s such a good price and so central and has a car park. I didn’t really mind about the slightly old carpet, etc..
Place is situated in town centre and ideal for walking around Cheltenham with access to public transport if you want to venture further. Rooms are a adequate size and clean.
The location is great but that is it. Worst I’ve ever stayed in, and I’ve stayed in many!
The hotel is unkept. The carpets are stained and looked like they are older than the building. The table in the room looked like it was covered in a fungus. Tea and coffee in room but no mugs! The en suite smelt. Not toilet roll holder in toilet. I paid to park car in nearest NCP car park, to be told there is free parking at hotel, but there is no way of knowing how to get into the parking. This is the first hotel I’ve ever experienced, it’s vile.

It was a perfect room and decent price for the one night i was there. I came to be in the area for a nice walk i took in the morning which was the perfect location. And the staff were very freindly and helpfull.
The cleanliness i wouldn give the tops, one of the cups had coffie stains. The carpet could have done with a better hoover and i saw some dirt under the bed.

Rooms had no locks on which as a solo female traveller was horrible. I had to move the bed in front of the door just to feel safe. The room was also dirty and not well cleaned. For the price I wasn’t expecting a lot but suspicious stains and no lock was not worth the money at all
