Provider-sourced guest reviews.
This is a very pretty building and the welcome from the owner was lovely. The room was basic with a very small bathroom. The shower was good and hot. The restaurant was very popular and with good reason as it had great service and wonderful local food. A nice breakfast too
The room was pretty basic but clean with everything you need for a night or two. Made up for by the great on site restaurant
Excellent meal and addition of piper an excellent addition to the meal.
Lage
Services der Mitarbeiter beim Frühstück, der Teller wird einfach weggeräumt ohne zu fragen ob man fertig ist Der Chef macht es am Nebentisch, er müsste das Personal schulen
I would give the staff a 10, all very nice and very welcoming. Even packed up breakfast for me when I woke up feeling ill. The room was large and very clean Food was overall quite good; drinks were excellent.
The mattress was a bit springy, and not the most comfortable thing ever, and the seam was fairly noticeable down the middle. Bathroom was okay, but a bit spartan. I think overall it’s an older building and nice/fastidious as the staff is it’s just starting to show its age. I would say the vibe is probably more like a large B&B than a hotel; if that’s your vibe you’ll probably love it, but if you prefer hotels then I think some of the more homey touches and quirks are probably going to have you annoyed and disappointed.
The breakfast was super,, as was the dinner the previous evening, when the dining room was full to bursting. Its obviously very popular locally as well as with the residents. We picked this hotel on spec and it more than fulfilled our expectations. Excellent.
Nothing
This is an absolute diamond of a perfect getaway. The whole experience from start to finish was nothing short of exceptional, from the location, amenities, rooms cleanliness and exceptional staff and mouth watering evening meals to the I,Imo, award worthy winning breakfast, everything they did and provided was above and beyond. Never have i ever received such hospitality. Also a massive thank you to Mark(proprietor)and Lucy (chef). See you next time for sure.

Tolles Hotel zu einem fairen Preis. Das Essen war sensationell.
L’atmosfera, cordialità e struttura old style. Colazione e cena ottime!
Très belle et confortable chambre. Excellent petit déjeuner. Très bonne table dans sa catégorie. Un bar très sympa avec une carte de whisky incroyable. Un patron au petit soin, qui vous conseille très bien.
Great friendly place
Staff were fabulous! The food was the best we had on the trip. Our room had everything we needed and was more spacious than anticipated. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to family & friends.
Staff and food were excellent.
Nothing stands out at all
Extraordinary stuff. Comfortable beds. Spacious room. Nice interiors. Good breakfast. Good choice of dinner menu.
No AC unit.
The photos didn’t do it justice, lovely atmosphere at the bar and the arrival of a piper made it a fantastic evening, beautiful bedrooms
Nothing to dislike, although it seems to be the post popular place for dining in the area so if there is an event on you will need an early table or have a wait
Greeted with a warm welcome. Arrived late , after dinner service , and was kindly offered fish and chips, which were lovely, as was breakfast.
We stopped in Grantown-on-Spey on our trip between Edinburgh and Inverness. The Speyside Hotel was a pleasant surprise. They have a nice (fully stocked!) bar and an incredible restaurant. We enjoyed happy hour and dinner after arrival. The bar had an impressive selection of Scotch, and our dinner was delightful. The setting , food, and service were all great. Breakfast the next day was also very good. All in all, a very pleasant full-service hotel.
This was a great hotel to stay at while on our whisky tour of Scotland. The proprietor was fantastic! The restaurant has delicious food! Nice location that is within walking distance to town. Our room was plenty large enough for the 2 of us. Thank you for the great hospitality!
Mark, de uitbater! Het diner was uitstekend, top!
Het bed was wat smal, op de kamer past echt wel een breder bed voor 2 personen
We have stayed at the Speyside Hotel many times now. A warm welcome is always received from the lovely owners, Mark and Lucy (who is also the wonderful chef!) As always our rooms were spacious , spotless and very comfortable. The bar is a warm welcoming place to sit with a drink prior to dinner in the lovely dining room. On our return trip this time we were delighted to see a lovely addition to the wall decor in the conservatory! Definitely won’t be long till we are heading back up for another stay!
Great location, tucked away from the main road, so it was nice and peaceful. The EV charging station was a big plus for us, and having a grass area for the dog was really convenient. Breakfast was excellent – a big thank you to Lucy and her team. Mark and the front-of-house and service teams were brilliant too, especially Katrina, who really looked after us. We also had dinner at the hotel and the food was really good, with great service and some excellent cocktails to go with it. A very enjoyable stay and we would happily return!
Tipica scozzese/britannica. Mangiare sia a cena che a colazione molto buono
Il proprietario anche se cercava di darti un servizio non ti metteva a tuo agio, un comportamento che non ti faceva stare bene
Excellent dining venue in Grantown-On-Spey. Food was superb, portions were generous and fantastic flavours....All served by very efficient staff. Top class restaurant.
My wife and I stayed at the Speyside hotel for one night as part of a mountain biking holiday that took us from the west coast to the east coast of Scotland. The day that we stayed at Speyside happened to be my birthday. When we arrived, Mark and his team were having a bit of a break, but once we met him, I knew we were going to be in for a great (short) stay. Pretty much every aspect of Speyside was really great. Our room was huge and very comfortable, dinner was fantastic (see photo of a proper pie!) thanks to the great team in the Speyside kitchen) and Mark even noted my birthday with a helium balloon that was put on our table. Mark said that this balloon had already served quite a few (6?) other birthdays - so it's great to see a re-use policy being put into practice. The post-dinner whiskey flight (remember it was my birthday!) was brilliant. Mark predicted what whiskies I would like, and he does this via a piece of paper that he gave me with his prediction on it - and my job (with great assistance from my wife) was to score the whiskies. It was a real treat to do something different like this and one that I'm still smiling about many weeks later. Breakfast the following day was no let-down, and the hospitality we were shown made a real and positive difference. If you've read this far, then you'll not be surprised that we had a great stay.
Staff very friendly. Great sense of humour. Kindly carried our suitcase upstairs for us as we were in the top floor. You need to order breakfast the night before so that everything is ready for you in the morning. It is a bit tricky if you do not quite know what you wish to eat, but a very efficient way of doing it. We would stay there again
El trato, aunque antiguo las instalaciones están bien y resulta muy acogedor y el restaurante es fantástico
Nada que mencionar
I have just returned from a second visit, within a year, to the Speyside Hotel. This time my visit was with my sister. It was as good as my first visit in March with my husband. I had a very warm welcome back from Mark and Lucy the owners. The hotel is in a very convenient position, behind the high street of the gorgeous Grantown on Spey. There is ample free parking for all residents. It has a very coy bar and restaurant with delicious homemade, locally sourced food, cooked by Lucy.Mark runs a well stocked bar, ideal for early evening drinks or a night cap. Lovely to see locals using the bar and restaurant as well. They are very fortunate to have extremely friendly and helpful staff assisting them .Well worth a visit and I look forward to returning in the future.
Het personeel was heel vriendelijk, het eten heerlijk en de kamer ruim en schoon

Our visit at the speyside hotel was a warm and friendly experience. Mark and his team were super helpful especially with arranging a driver for our adventures around the Whiskey distilleries. Gerry the driver was friendly and kindly went out of his way to show us around some of the sites. The breakfast was excellent and very efficiently organised. Sadly we missed out on the amazing chefs specials but will have to make another trip just to enjoy the dinner menu .
Thank you to Mark, Lucy and the team for making our visit to Grantown on Spey a very memorable one. Although we were not Hotel guests we were welcomed and made to feel totally at home. Mark is a great host. The bar is an absolute gem. The whiskey selection alone will bowl you over not to mention the cocktails. I can totally recommend you try one of the whiskey or gin flights. The restaurant matches the experience up perfectly. Lucy’s menu serves up a thoroughly well chosen selection of excellent locally sourced food cooked with a great passion. So if you’re staying anywhere near, I can totally recommend you go out of your way and pay them a visit. We’re glad we did.
Downstairs restaurants and service is very good but be careful when booking your room. Our standard double room was cramped and filled with op shop furniture with a view of the fire escape and limited natural light. Bathroom was a broom cupboard with tiny shower. Overall the room was a big let down on what could have been a nice stay.
Das Essen war einfach phantastisch
Die Zimmer sind schon sehr klassisch
Very clean & welcoming staff, relaxed feel to the Hotel, nice breakfast, would definitely stay again
Aardig personeel, goed ontbijt comfortabele kamer
Niks.
The staff were extremely helpful and efficient, a slight hitch at breakfast was resolved without fuss and to our satisfaction. The property is a wee bit tired but the fantastic food more than offset any issues
Tiny bathroom and small shower
Proprietor was super helpful and friendly ....as were all tge staff

Camera e bagno molto spaziosi. Staff disponibile. Ottimo ristorante annesso all'albergo. Ottima colazione, prevalentemente salata.
Aggiungerei qualche opzione dolce al menù della colazione
Friendly hosts and an excellent restaurant. The food was exceptional

Lovely hotel with friendly and helpful hosts. The food was excellent and beyond our expectations and could hold its own with any high class restaurant. Would highly recommend. Neil and Claire
A stylish hotel located not far from the center of Grantown. Ample parking right outside. Clean, spacious rooms. Friendly staff and good service. The food in the hotel restaurant, where Lucy prepared local delicacies, was particularly outstanding. We felt very comfortable here!
There are no complaints. It was a fantastic place to stay. The price is certainly not insignificant, but totally appropriate for the service provided.
Great place, great staff.
Took me 15 minutes to persuade the television I didn't want Netflix.
The staff, the service, and the overall quality were excellent.
We had a comfortable room and excellent breakfasts and dinners here. Their mushroom pie and Cullen skink pie (yes, surprise presentation!) were delightful. Mark is an excellent host and provided prompt and attentive service to our needs. We plan to return next time we visit Speyside!
Would recommend. Nice clean hotel with ample parking and close to the town centre. Food was OK but would have been better if more seasoning had been added. Avoid the desserts, however, as we had three different ones and they did not hit the spot for different reasons.
A fantastic meal, a larger portion than expected . Recommended meals by staff were mouthwatering . Bar staff and waiters were friendly which is why we will return here.
The staff made us feel very welcome and accommodated our dog in the dining room for both dinner and breakfast, by removing once chair from a four seat table to allow her to lie close to us but not interfere with foot traffic. Dinner was delicious.
Nothing
We are regular visitors to this lovely hotel. Our reasons for returning are the spotlessly clean and comfortable rooms, the fantastic food and the hotel's great location. But above all is the wonderful hospitality shown by both Mark and Lucy. They are both very busy people but they always have time to assure themselves that you are comfortable and have everything you need. Lucy's food is exceptional, mainly because of her passion and skill but also because of her determination to use fresh produce from local providers. These great meals are enhanced by the lovely restaurant staff, a team who provide professional and friendly service. We thoroughly recommend this fabulous hotel.
Very busy restaurant staff worked like absolute dogs which was hard to observe. My meal was satisfactory but my wife's feather blade beef was tough we were too embarrassed to complain. On chatting to the over worked staff member they informed us despite 60 covers + paying the 10% service charge the waiting staff only received a measly £25 tips per evening. Absolutely disgusting
Breakfast was fabulous 👌 cooked to perfection
Room was a bit tired but didnt spoil our stay. Room was clean and comfortable. Lovely white fluffy towels too.
Excellent
Excellent Breakfast > Pre order system worked well Ideal location. Short walk into town centre
Evening Meal: Food very good but a bit pricey. Service a bit slow
The service at dinner and breakfst
Found it hard to find the hotel
We had a fantastic three-night stay at the Speyside Hotel with owners Mark and “chef” Lucy. From the moment we arrived, everything was excellent. Our room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The food was outstanding, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and the whisky bar was a real highlight with an excellent selection. The hotel’s location was perfect for our golfing trip, being close to both Grantown-on-Spey and Boat of Garten golf courses. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Highly recommended!
An excellent overnight stay in a traditional Scottish hotel. Very clean and comfortable, excellent food and very friendly, hospitable staff. Will definitely be returning guests.
Food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Also there is a huge selection of whiskeys to sample. The service from the manager and the staff was good.
Nothing
Leuke bar, mooie ruime kamer, voldoende parking, zeer grote keuze whiskykaart, goed ontbijt. Laadpalen (betalend) ter beschikking.
We zaten op het tweede verdiep (met hond). Er is geen lift.
Was one of the best stays of our trip in Scotland. First and foremost the reception we received By Marc was amazing very warm and welcoming. Even if i was not sure what that little gold pin was for HAHA... The room, was so comfy and nice, slept so well. Dining and breakfast by Chef Lucy was to die for. I actually loved the haggis that only Chef Lucy makes now, she set the standard high! Marc you have raised the bar on how hotel hospitality should be, you and your staff are amazing, it was a pleasure to stay with you. If we ever go back to Scotland we will make sure to visit and try some more Whiskey flights. If you ever plan a trip to Montreal please feel free to look us up, you have our info on file it would be our pleasure to show you around. Lynn P.
Picked hotel for location price and that it was dog friendly. It was so much more. Staff so friendly and welcoming from the call prior to arrival and throughout he stay. Many places say dog friendly then exclude your family member from many areas of the hotel. Here I and our 3 dogs were welcome in dining room too. This led to being able to relax and enjoy the hotel evening menu. All Cooked fresh by co owner and chef Lucy. The standard was exceptional. Breakfast was top Quality too. We had such a lovely time. Thank you.
Cómodo y el Personal muy atento.
Great breakfast and dinner. Cozy room with great views to Cromdales and Cairngorms
Had to beware of sloping ceilings in our room.
It was quiet
Lots of stairs to carry bags up. No help offered.
I really liked the helpful and friendly staff. The restaurant within the hotel serves amazing food! The owner reached out to me about making reservations for dinner because they can get busy and he didnt want me to miss out. You dont find that at places anymore.
There really isn't anything I would change. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. They made you feel like you were at home.
What a gem of a stay! Mark not only introduced me to my favourite whisky but also gave great recommendations for hiking / train to Aviemore. The food made by Lucy was sooo good (scallops and steak pie)! I had such a lovely evening in the bar / restaurant and slept very well. Was only there one night but would definitely go back!
Cant say enough about how amazing mark and his team made our stay most enjoyable ! From the warm greeting upon arrival to the bantering in the bar pre and post dinner . Much appreciated his whisky recommendations. Incredible ambience ,The dinner and breakfast was simply off the charts.I highly recommend visiting this hotel !! 2 Things, the 25 lbs is in the mail and Glory Glory Man United ! (inside joke )
sehr gutes Abendessen, freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal.
Die Gastgeber sehr nett, das Essen im Restaurant sensationell!!! Der Gastraum gemütlich, wie in einem schottischen Wohnzimmer.
What a wonderful hotel, the food, the atmosphere, the bar and staff were all first class. Big thumbs to Mark who looked after us so well throughout our stay despite the hotel being so busy. We had the cullen skink pie on the Thursday night which was amazing and the chateaubriand on the Friday night which was to die for the best we have ever had, Chef Lucy is absolutely amazing. The room was perfect and the staff were so welcoming to us and our dog. We will be back again and again.
Food was exceptional
Couldn't fault auything
What a fantastic experience after being let down by the provider that my previous review relates to. Mark and his team helped me out of a difficult situation by moving guests to facilitate my stay at an hours notice! Exceptional, however that was only the beginning. The level of attention to detail to guests needs, the welcoming, calm and considered manner in which guests were taken care of and the quality of the food and drink offering as well as Marks team were simply exceptional. Having run hospitality business’s myself I know the effort required to deliver that standard of experience. Simply superb. Highly, highly recommended, and an absolute professional at the top of his game leading the team.
Lovely relaxing decor clean and excellent food.
Nothing
The location was central. The room was comfortable.
We felt an inconvenience for the staff. It's true that it was busy the night we stayed and like most places the number of staff was restricted but ...
Absolutely loved our stay here. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Meals were fabulous and they are very busy on Friday and Saturday nights. They arrange to have Spud the bagpiper play music for a bit and it’s a wonderful experience!
Accueil très sympathique, restaurant excellent, ambiance écossaise au top, conseils avisés au bar
Portes des chambres qui laissent passer la lumière du couloir
The hotel was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant was excellent

Fabulous food, extensive whisky collection. Would recommend.
Lovely hotel just a short distance from the centre of town. We had a nice quiet room with everything we needed. Dog very happy too! Brilliant dinner and breakfast. Hosts very welcoming
Hemos repetido por nuestra luna de miel , ya que el ambiente , el trato y el cariño de los que gestionan el hotel es digno dr admirar .
Visited a Pie and Whisky tasting event as part of the Spey Side Whisky festival 2026. Drawn from an extensive list of whisky from across the region and beyond, the experience included 5 drams of your choice. Included was a pie of which there was a choice of 3, all made to order and served with mashed potato and sessional veg. WOW. The pie, large and amply filled with locally source ingredients was outstanding and star of the show. Excellent hosts and very enjoyable experience. In the future, this event would be my number one booking priority.
Location was very good, two minutes walk from town centre
The first room that we were given was awful, small, dark and dinghy, tiny shower room, one seat in a dark corner and an awful musty small. After complaining, we were given the room advertised in booking.com. This still had a small to it, beds were of low quality but much better than the first room. Having to complete a form, detailing our breakfast request was something that I have not seen for many years. No food/drinks are available for self access so required requests for everything, e.g. top-up of fruit juice, change of yoghurt flavour initially given, furthe toast, etc, etc.
The standard of the dinner and breakfast was superb. Comfortable hotel with friendly and engaging owners. Lovely bar which you don’t want to leave.
Nothing not to like
Three adults in a family room. The room was quite large. Comfortable. Restaurant downstairs had a good selection and food was OK. Breakfast was included and was a very good selection.
Three Norwegian guys on Speyside Whisky trail tour spent two nights at The Speyside hotel. The rooms and atmosphere were great. Eating, drinking and service was fantastic. This hotel and The Ghillie Bar & Restaurant is highly recommended.
Mark & Lucy are wonderful hosts - Lucy is an amazing chef and Mark is full of information about the local area as well as tipping us off about visiting the most gorgeous Highland Coos! The hotel has a lovely atmosphere, gorgeous food, an impressive whisky collection and is a fantastic location for exploring the Cairngorms. Highly recommended.
Having to leave!
My wife and I have just enjoyed a 2 night break staying at the Speyside Hotel. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The hotel was well appointed and the atmosphere within was relaxed and friendly. The food was excellent as were the hosts Mark and Lucy. We hope to return and are very happy to recommend the Speyside Hotel to anybody looking for a great place to stay in Grantown.
Really great location to explore the Cairngorms. Awesome included breakfast. Excellent evening restaurant with modern scottish cuisine. The haggis was to die for.
We spent two nights at the hotel and was the best experience we’ve had in a long time. Friday night was a themed dinner showcasing the best food that the region had to offer. Breakfast was delicious and dinner on Saturday served the best venison pie. Hotel rooms clean and comfortable. Mark and Lucy the perfect hosts - we will be back. 🙏
Just back from a few days staying at the Speyside Hotel in Grantown on Spey. The owners , Mark and Lucy are first class hosts and Lucy’s cooking using local produce is exceptional!! From breakfast in the morning till dinner in the evening, it’s all delicious! The Ghillie Bar is lovely to sit before dinner with a glass of wine, beer , dram or soft drink from their well stocked bar and then into the warm and welcoming dining room with its lovely decor and amazing new wall decoration of a huge salmon! Discovering the local area is easy from the hotel and then back to chill in the evening in the small beer garden or bar.
A real gem of a highland country hotel. My wife and I have travelled extensively over the years both internationally and in the UK. We felt that the Speyside Hotel needed a shout out. Great location, brilliant service, ample free parking available at the hotel and a short walk from the centre of the lovely little town of Grantown on Spey. My wife and I had a week’s stay with our dog in a classic suite, which was spotlessly clean, great comfortable bed, spacious very well appointed room with great en suite facilities. We were on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast is exceptional, freshly cooked that morning. Simply choose what you’d like and what time you’d like to eat and complete your breakfast form the night before. The breakfast is great but please use the restaurant for dinner, Lucy, the chef produces an absolutely great menu, delicious 👌🏻we ended up dining there for four of our nights and would have dined on more had we been able to get a reservation. Then there’s the “Ghillie bar” well stocked with everything you want (great choice of single malts if you’re interested). Mark does an amazing job ensuring the bar is comfortable and welcoming. Without doubt the most fantastic aspect of this hotel are Mark and Lucy - the owners. They are fantastic people and hosts, very welcoming. Lucy is a great chef, really cares that you’ve had an enjoyable dining experience. Mark is so knowledgeable about the area, where to visit and things to do. They are absolutely committed to ensuring you have a great stay. In fact my wife has booked a five day stay for her and her sister in July this year. We will definitely be returning. Just book it you won’t find better 👍🏻
These days I only write Tripadvisor reviews for exceptional (good or bad!) experiences. Our stay at the Speyside Hotel was a real highlight of our extensive trip around Scotland and totally deserves a top review. The hotel is very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The hosts, Mark and Lucy, are very friendly and helpful and they ensure a truly enjoyable stay. The breakfast menu is extensive and the food is freshly prepared from local ingredients wherever possible. My wife said the porridge was the best she had ever tasted! As for the evening meal… I found Lucy’s venison pie absolutely delicious and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the mushroom pie. Our only regret was that we didn’t have room for a pud! Our king size room was spacious, very comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. All in all, a terrific experience and we would love to stay again.
The owners were really welcoming and the food was excellent
Le lieu, le bar, l'accueil, c'était très très bien

We decided to revisit Grantown on Spey to celebrate our wedding anniversary as this lovely Spey Valley town holds good memories for us as a young couple many years ago . We were fortunate in that our anniversary coincided with a glorious spell of sunny but cold weather and also very fortunate with our choice of hotel. The Speyside Hotel is located in a quiet location, one street back from the Main Street . We received a warm welcome from Lucy and Mark, the owners . We had chosen a king size room which did not disappoint being well furnished with a very comfy bed , a good size en-suite with shower and excellent quality toiletries. We had booked for three nights but were so enjoying our stay that we stayed on for an extra day. The food was excellent particularly the dinners cooked by Lucy. Highlights included the salmon, venison pie and the blade of Baillefurth steak, all well prepared and presented. The restaurant was obviously popular with the locals , a number of whom dined during our stay. The Ghillie Bar adjacent to but separate from the restaurant provides an excellent venue for an aperitif with a good range of wines and malt whiskies at affordable prices. Mark is a bit of a whisky expert and provides good advice.
My friend and I returned yesterday from a very pleasant three night stay in this excellent hotel. A large and comfortable twin room with en suite bath and shower. A cosy bar featuring an impressive range of single malts. An attractive, spacious dining room in which we enjoyed three hearty breakfasts and two outstanding dinners. The large reception/lounge area was well furnished and decorated and there was an abundance of tourist information literature to read. Our hosts, Mark and Lucy, could not have been more welcoming and helpful to us throughout our stay. It was a real pleasure to stay at such a fine place in such a beautiful Highland town.
Lovely hotel on its own grounds in lovely Grantown. Very comfortable rooms, great food and very friendly hosts, Mark & Lucy (very friendly rivalry around who made the better breakfast - I couldn't possibly comment). We will go back.
Nice place close to the town centre but far enough back to be quiet, the breakfast was ample and tasty and the bar has a extensive range of good malts to choose from, the onwers/ staff were very attentive and welcoming
Nothing to complain of on our short stay
Nice folks
We were the only guests (winter), the restaurant was not open, while we were very hungry upon arrival (7.45 pm). There was only one restaurant open in the entire village. Hotel is pretty old and beds are probably there since the start as you could feel all the springs in your back. tiny bathroom, with low water pressure. My colleague's room up in the attic was freezing cold.
Breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked to order. Staff (Callum) was friendly and couldn't do more to help us with our stay. Room was spacious, clean and exactly as we expected.
