Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Dirty linen scattered all over the corrider. Doors slamming. Dated bathroom and bin still full to the brim from the previous customer.
Location and style of hotel is great. Room had a new bathroom and was clean.
Reception staff shared no information on why the room was not available for 20 minutes. Eventually a room was found which appeared to have been rapidly prepared, rubbish outside. The room was in poor repair, one lift broken and poor repair in public areas. The hotell looks tired.
Location
Cleanliness, noise
The lift was out of service
Good accommodation, however if you need access later at night, it was a struggle for someone to let you in. There is a bell but no one assisted, had to get guests inside to find someone to open the door.

Booked for good location near a wedding venue we were attending. Parking was particularly good as the car park was next to the hotel so convenient for a city centre.
Bathroom well equipped, room functional
sink was very poor, something like a silicone was all over it, marks on the bedroom carpet, and workers walking by the window in the morning
Nothing, apart from the fact that the wonderfully stretched staff did their best to make the unbearable just about bearable. How and why on EARTH does this overpriced doss-house inherit the name of a once great hotel. It was GRAND, in name and nature - now it is utterly awful. It has been taken over by a company called 'Sunday', part of something called OYO, part of something called Softbank. VERY ominous. According to the blurb: "High-end, lifestyle-oriented luxury and heritage properties designed for modern travelers". REALLY?! First thing to learn upon arrival: the lifts are "under maintenance control" - no they're not, they are BROKEN. BOTH of them. This is a Saturday afternoon. We have heavy bags to take to a room on the 3rd (in this hotel 5th) floor. 'When will they be fixed?' one asks, hoping for an hour or so. 'Latest Monday'. Aged 72, what is one supposed to do? Thank God, I wonderful man called Omar on the desk hauled the bags up five flights of stairs. Said stairs are filthy. One section is covered over with plastic sheeting, like a slum tenement. Room okay, if a little poky -"veranda" heaped with stinking cigarette butts - cannot be reached to clean because window will not open. The 'business services' are so inferior it takes 15 minutes to print a rail ticket ! One asks for the room to be serviced. The lady on reception has no idea what we are talking about. We return later: is it serviced? Of course not. A veteran chambermaid comes to the rescue and does what was not asked of her, lamenting the awful decline in standards. All weekend, on my walking cane, up and down five storeys. No sign of the elevators being repaired. In normal countries like France or the USA, you just FIX THE DAMNED THINGS. But this is broken Britain... Monday arrives. Are the lifts repaired? Of course not !
Almost everytning.
Good sized room, quiet surroundings, easy and quick check-in and out.
There was a dirty sock next to my bed when I got the room. The hotel WiFi was unprotected (open), thus inherently insecure. The breakfast was expensive (£14) for the meagre buffet you get.
Location
We’ve stayed here before, the hotel was of a much higher standard when it was Mercure. It was tired, a most inconvenient the lift not working. It was more akin to student accommodation
Ideal location for are trip
The lift was out of action all weekend, i was with an elderly relation who struggled with the 76 stairs to floor two, breakfast not alot of choice or perhaps they hadnt refilled by the time we got there, drinks were expensive, others we spoke too also put out by lift not working.
Beautiful building and generous sized rooms.
The lift was broken and we had to carry our luggage up lots of stairs
Good location for what I wanted. Parking in central Bristol is a plus!
The parking is very narrow - care needed with big cars. The elevator is very slow. Overall - the hotel needs a facelift to restore it to its ‘Grand’ name.
The room was beautiful, lovely bathroom

Great location, room was comfortable and a generous size.
Seemed a bit run down and in need of a refurb. Only one lift working. One set of towels for 2 guests and an empty bottle of hand wash. The parapet outside the window was littered with fag buts and baggies. Had to have a tepid shower because there was no hot water at 6:30am. Hotel bar was diabolical. Took forever to get served, back bar fridges were half empty, the whole bar area was untidy and unappealing. And don’t get me started on the awful music. The same 30 seconds of elevator music on an endless loop.

The location is great
The reviews of this hotel don’t paint a pretty picture, my stay was better than my expectations because they were low given what I was reading. The first room we were given the key wouldn’t work twice, after which we got switched to another room up on the third floor. There is only one working elevator which given the reviews I think has been the case for quite some time, it can make the trips downstairs in the morning very slow. The bed was big enough for two but the mattress was very bobbly and you could feel it under the sheets, and the pillows are paper thin and hard. The cleanliness leaves just a bit more to be desired but overall the room was fine. There is a plug socket right next to the full length mirror so great for getting ready. The stay served us for what we needed for a two night stay but we would pick somewhere else in Bristol for our next stay.
Friendly staff and lovely room
Location, size of beds and rooms, cleanliness
I liked that the staff were friendly and happy to help. Location was great
Breakfast should be consistent. Sunday morning, had to wait for the hot food to be topped up. Should be more options of food for vegetation rather than, egg, beans, has brown and tomato. Two lifts should be working if a function is on. I had crutches and bed was on first floor but had to walk down due to staff using the lift for moving equipment wasn't great.
Nothing
Dirty room, noisy, malfunctioning AC - mould in bathroom and a stained carpet. Cold food at Breakfast
Location is excellent
Hard to communicate with staff - when calling reception through out the day, no one ever picked up the phone. The shampoo and products in the bathroom were empty as well, large stain on the carpet in the room. Not going to stay there again.
Location, room size.
Breakfast was awful. Bacon and sausage undercook tasted like the boiled it. Egg tasted like water. Left the whole plate of floor. Only had coffee.
The staff were really friendly and it was fab value for money.
The room was boiling.
Easy check in, rooms next to each other as requested. Rooms were generally clean with air con and well presented. Great location
Bathroom floor was a little unclean with blood drops on the floor. It could have done with a decent mop before being ready for us
Location clos to venue.
Plug in sink didn't work. Water very slow draining from shower plinth, overflowing on to tiled floor. Very slippery.
Location was perfect and the exterior attractive. Windows can be opened and the fourth floor room had no noise issues from outside . The price for a basic room seemed reasonable ( but see below)
Bathroom- poor/shabby decor, poor cleanliness, no window covering, no bath plug, stained toilet bowl. The remains of chips dropped in the corridor were there for two days ; the double doors to the lift/fire exit banged frequently as they were impossible to close quietly One out of the two lifts out of order. Requested additional milk/ teabags at reception , told them the room accessible all day, but they weren't provided.
Right in city centre
My room was a bit tatty. Just a tail to hang clothes. Worn out carpet. Needed a good hoover. Pile of old fluff by clothes hanging rail. A bit like student halls.
Lovely room, great location in central Bristol with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Really good value for money
Staff was friendly! And the lobby was nicely decorated + clean. Location is prime.
The room's were very disappointing. Unclean, stained carpets. The bed was not made properly, so the sheets were only half on and exposed a very dingy mattress underneath. The mattress was really uncomfortable too, with the springs pressing into our backs. The bathroom did not have a working fan, and there were very few toiletries provided.
Location is the only thing going for this Hotel
I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. My room was never cleaned once, despite me asking then complaining. I was told the cleaning crew had finished after day 1 so I asked for it to be a priority. Reception took my name and room, but it never got cleaned. My room wasn’t clean from day 1 and There were also stains on the bed sheets and pillows upon arrival, but as the room was never cleaned I had to deal with it. When I asked about towels and needing fresh ones, I was told they would be available. It was 7pm and I was on my way out to an evening meal. When I asked if the towels could be dropped up to my room, I was told no but when I came back I could ask at reception and carry them back up! I’ve never heard of such a thing. Also forgot to mention the maintenance man that just walked in my room on my first evening to drop off an ironing board…. Staff make a note, but nothing gets done. It’s clearly a hotel that just wants your money and makes you put up with poor service. I have booked in December and will be actively cancelling my booking. What could be a good hotel is let down by poor service and very dated rooms.
The location was amazing and the size of room was perfect. It was close to everything, clean and quiet.
Check in was supposed to be from 3pm. We arrived at 4pm, but not all rooms were available. It was after 1730 before we got in and we had reservations at 1730 that we nearly missed. The reception staff seemed a little overwhelmed and there was confusion surrounding the room allocations.
The location
The smell of drains
Great location with easy access to the city
This is our 3rd time staying and the first time since it changed hands and we found it really disappointing. The room was fine but the bath appeared dirty. We were given an adjoining room with strangers and the walls were paper thin meaning we had a poor nights sleep. The staff in the bar were very slow and clearly not very experienced. The bar is also very expensive! £12 for a pint of cider and 2 packs of crisps! The breakfast was also very expensive at 18 including service (it was a self service buffet!). The breakfast was poor quality and basically cold. One lift was broken leaving a disabled guest waiting for a considerable time to get downstairs. We have returned here in the past due to its comfort and good service but were very disappointed with what we found this time around
A fantastic hotel and location for exploring Bristol.
Location and parking
Small room poor shower facilities
Beliggenheden og morgenmaden var fantastisk
Vi fik et værelse uden vindue. Fik dog et med vindue dagen efter
Great location, good bar and restaurant, staff were friendly enough.
The room. Tiny, gloomy.
The location.
Only one curtain of the pair so a lot of light was let in in the morning. The spring matress was lumpy and uncomfortable. The soap, shampoo dispensers did not work. Woken up by building noises outside the bedroom window early in the morning fue to roof renovation below.
Good size room. Very good blackout curtains. Appreciated the iron and ironing board
Extraction system in bathroom noisy and went all night. Reception staff were very indifferent, and there was an extremely short and to the point interaction. When spending a lot of money on a room you would hope for a warmer welcome. Also shower gel was empty and not enough loo roll provided for a 2 night stay

The location and value for money
staff so good and helpful which made our stay. having parking was very good waterfront area lovely cabot shopping terrible bristol town dirty and so many homeless asking for money every day
room very small with terrible outlook. should have asked to move but we had unpacked and were tired driving from cornwall.
Checking out
THE GRAND HOTEL BRISTOL The name conjures up the glamour of yesteryear, but after the Reception area your dreams of yesteryear will evaporate. There are two lifts but on my visit one was out of order and the other was being used by the Housekeeping staff to move their materials around , so there was a wait for a free spot. I had booked a Premier Executive Room for a bit of indulgence. On opening the door I entered a large, dull, grim room. The furniture looked as though it had come from a junk shop. The walls were painted a drab brown. The décor looked knocked about. There was one small window overlooking a side street and entrance to the car park opposit The lighting was all wall lights that barely illuminated the room. One light by the bed was broken and looked unsafe. To admit more illumination it was necessary to leave the bathroom door open with the light on. There was no wardrobe just some sort of cage with hangers I don’t know when the room was last cleaned but the skirting board and carpet edges were really dusty. Now about the car park. The hotel charge £19 per 24 hours. There is no pro rata charge so I was charged for a full day when I was leaving Bristol. When I queried this on arrival the Receptionist replied that I could leave the car there “all” day. I pointed out that after breakfast I would be leaving Bristol. She made no response. The car park is cramped and judging by the paintwork left on the bends others had found it difficult to manoeuvre My advice would be to avoid this hotel (there are plenty of options in the City) as it does not give value for money and as for parking use a nearby public car park.
Compact Double Room was perfectly adequate for one, good location, comfortable and reasonably priced.
Cleanliness was an issue. Generally OK but significant aspects missed. This was raised with staff immediately and was expected to be cleaned by the time I returned. Unfortunately not the case when I arrived back in the early hours.
Location was good
Room was so small and not the cleanest. The window and frame was dirt and mouldy. There was no main light so hard to get ready for our night out.
Location
Having to ask for replacement towels, toilet roll and tea/coffee/milk multiple times, then having to collect from reception myself.
lovely bar and superb Indian restaurant on site and parking easy
Location was perfect. Comfortable room and air conditioned
The service. During the stay we booked room cleaning and services but it was not done, on top of it when we returned to the hotel in the evening and had to enquire about this, the lady at the reception said "there's no staff". We ran out of toilet rolls and we had to bring it by ourselves from the reception. Please look into these issues more as it is unacceptable.
Bedroom had untidy undecorated walls that looked damp and dirty. Room was poor compared to our last stay.
The room was perfect
good size bar and decent breakfast.
small rooms, small bed. it felt like a room in a prison. only one elevator working. tony reception, totally in contradiction to the high quality, stylish looking facade. Hotel hard tot find on sat nav. al;so because of called the Grand and not the grand by Sunday as in the documentation. small multistory car park is convenient next to hotel but hard to find. we first parking in an adjacent car park before we found the hotel and then this car park. the car park was build for small cars, anyone with a big car, has to take up two parking spots. the park house elevator looks like it was maintained in the 1990's
Really doubt this is a 4star hotel. We had no shower gel, only one towel, and the smallest room I have ever had (any holiday inn is better). The pictures of the rooms on the website are NOT what you will get. Pic shows the view from the bed… laughable.
Location
It was incredibly dirty and the shower did not work.
La ubicación excelente y el desayuno muy conpleto. Lo único que.ko me gustó mucho es la poca variedad en el restaurante del hotel. Mas bien una cantina
El restaurante poco variado
Location was fantastic. Easy communication with staff . Air con in the room great!
We were confused why no one was at the reception, at busy check in time . Poor girl checking people in and taking bags away , answering calls , for such a big place need more staff . Cleanliness… absolutely speechless, family room looked like it hasn’t been cleaned for months . Dirt , dust , carpets , we didn’t want to touch anything. Luckily we only stayed for one night otherwise we would have been gone . Dirty dishes In the corridor outside we checked in 3.30pm , following morning dishes still there . The room was so so dark as well . Nasty room . We didn’t feel brave enough to have food .
Great location, very close to old city Centre and to Temple Meads Station. Very pretty lobby. We were able to drop off our luggage before check-in.
We booked beds for 5 people (3 adults and 2 children) and ended up getting 4 beds. We wanted to check in at 3pm but only one room was ready by then. The family room wasn’t ready yet so we just went out to check out the city. When we came back around 9pm and wanted to check into the second room, it turned out that the family room had been accidentally given to someone else and all we got was a room with a king size bed. It was absolutely impossible to put an extra fold up bed in the room with the king size bed. Note that my children are 9 and 11 years old - not tiny babies - and they are tall for their age. We had a twin room with two separate beds and a room with a king size bed for 5 people. I (mother) ended up sleeping with my daughter in one of the twin beds and pretty much didn’t sleep all night. The staff was not very helpful. Sure, we got complimentary breakfast for the error but honestly, after all the discomfort the hotel’s staff cost us I would have expected an actual discount. After all, we got only four beds instead of the five that we had booked. I was told in the evening to come back in the morning and discuss a discount with the hotel manager but honestly, after a whole night of hardly sleeping I was exhausted and didn’t have the mental capacity to argue with the manager. It would have been a nice gesture if the hotel manager had approached us and offered a discount instead of expecting us to beg for it. Also, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, mattresses felt like wooden boards. One of the windows in the twin bedroom was broken and held together with tape so it couldn’t be opened. The other window only opened a tiny little bit. It was almost impossible to get fresh air in. There was air conditioning but it didn’t cause the room to be less stuffy. One of the two lifts was not working which caused long waiting times and of course, we couldn’t lug our heavy luggage up and down the stairs.
Initial room was very small and you had to move the bed to get to the wardrobe to put your cases in and the remote for the tv had no batteries. This room would be ideal for a single person who is not very big. I asked at the reception if it would be possible to move us as we are quite big and the room just didn’t suit us and they moved us next room across which was wonderful and big. I couldn’t fault them at all.
Nothing to dislike
Reception - a big shout out to Yahye who guided on in on the phone , as sat. nav. is hopeless in Bristol centre! Parking in secure car park at £19 for 24 hrs
No one serving in bar/ restaurant as graduation event on.
Room was spacious and comfortable right in the centre
The price quoted on booking was never the same when you got to select your room. Always around 20% more. This happened no matter how many times we logged out and logged back in. This may be a criticism of Booking but it didn’t occur with any other hotel
The hotel gave our room away despite us telling them in advance we would be checking in late and even leaving our luggage in their left luggage store earlier in the day. At half past midnight when we arrived they told us they had no rooms and could do nothing to help us, suggesting we go to another town to find a hotel, they refused to pay for the taxi to another town. They offered a refund on the room but that was it, despite this being entirely their fault and leaving us in the lurch in the middle of the night.
Excellent location. Really nice decor and good breakfast.
Brilliant location right in the centre of Bristol and car park option next door was convenient Staff were friendly and efficient 👍
Very pleased for the price
The staff at reception were very polite and friendly, the location of the hotel is excellent.
We have stayed at this hotel several times before, however this time we had a tiny room which didn't even have a chair. The shower was cold each time we used it, we were advised there was an issue with this throughout the hotel. The hotel has gone downhill since we stayed last year. When we arrived we noticed there were glasses, plates and bottles along the corridor which people had put outside their rooms, when we checked out the next day they were still there.
Good location
Dirty rooms, cold showers, paper thin walls
Location
No hot water in morning and no discount given.
Excellent location, friendly staff and a cool. relaxed vibe
Some of the rooms are a long way from reception
Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Corridors and stairways well-kept and nicely decorated. Building looks impressive from outside. Comfortable chairs and tables in downstairs bar.
Didn't like the view from our window into the scruffy rear of the hotel, populated by noisy gulls. Room was provided with cheap toiletries and the world's thinnest toilet tissues. Only one (upholstered in plastic) seat provided. Main light looked like it came from an air raid shelter. No decaf tea in room. Not much choice of beers in bar.
Excellent location, easy parking
Wasn't a double bed, but two single mattresses poorly zipped together, spring popping through.Such poor quality...photos with this review. Management yet to reply back.
Close to everything
Central clean nice rooms that were spacious nice staff
No faults
The only good thing is the location. The hotel itself is very outdated. They put modern furniture but after years of negligence, they look worn now. The corridor is old and musty. My room is dusty, old and musty. The bathroom is very basic with missing toilet roll holder, holes on the wall, blocked drain, and dirty shower curtain. The breakfast is very average. The coffee looks and tastes like brown water. The scrambled eggs are so pale. The hash browns are nice though. The receptionists are rude and lack customer service skills. Avoid this hotel. They are not 4 star and doesn't deserve your custom and money.
Emplacement exceptionnel dans Bristol. Le personnel est très serviable.

Breakfast was self service and fine. Plenty of variety and all good.
Very small room. No hot water in basin, shower or bath however long the taps were running. No toilet basin brush. Decor tired and dated.
The Location
No hot water in the room at all. No soft drinks, robes or slippers which are stated as part of our booking that room. Cold and inedible breakfast. False promises from the manager stating he would refund our breakfasts, plus return 25% of the room fee. Waiting an hour at reception to lodge our complaints.
Hotel was well located but I guess that depends on your needs. Carpark was extremely convenient though!
The room was a little more compact than I'd thought. Service at the bar was great but it's not the cheapest
Reading the reviews I think its safe to say we were very lucky. The hotel is tired. The decor 'kooky' (designed by someone who has possibly never been to the UK). The lifts. One out of order, the other always a queue. First Floor carpet has some sort of warning plastic on it. We stayed in Room 203. Large room, large double bed. Again decor 'kooky' (not a single matching lamp) wardrobe door was a wiremesh frame door. However, room was clean, aircon worked. Bathroom clean, shower modern. No mould anywhere (unlike other rooms according to other reviews I've read). Good nights sleep, though the blackout curtains did mean we slept in (ok that should never really be a complaint!!) We didn't pay for breakfast (£16pp) as there was a Wetherspoons just 3min walk away (which cost £19 for the two of us in total) Overall, we booked literally last minute with no research whatsoever, struck out lucky on the room by all accounts. Hotel is central, close to the Market and the theatre/gig district. Had an offer on the room price (about £40 off 'recommended') so can't comment fully on value for money. Based purely on my experience alone I'd recommend as a one/two night stay hotel
The decor is beautiful and the staff are eager to help and happy.
The breakfast is a bit pricey, but very good quality ingredients.
Stayed in a twin room for two nights. Comfortable beds, good black-out curtains, air conditioning, decent TV, tea & coffee facility. On the minus side, no wardrobe, very little storage space and stupid non matching light fittings. Overall would I stay here again - yes.
Decor, staff help.
Mush mash of bedroom furniture.
The location very central
It was tired and shabby very disappointing no way is this a 4 star the bar was full of a smoke smell, dirty tables dirty floor you can see the standard of the seating and tables in the photo.
The staff were absolutely lovely couldn’t do enough for you
Our room did need an empty bottle of wine removing as was left behind
Very spacious room and fab bathroom
Reception area a bit unwelcoming
The location is brilliant and the decor is unique
The bed linen and toiletries were not of a very good quality
Quirkiness of the building and surrounding areas.
The small and tight multistorey car park. Not well lit.
Good location.
Breakfast was very expensive for what you got. We checked into Our room and it clearly had t been cleaned - looked like someone had just got out of bed . So back to reception . Luckily they upgraded us to a bigger room.
Very good location, lovely room with air com which was great during this very hot wather. It was great to be able to go to the hotel bar after the gig. Also this hotel has security on the door so you feel very safe. You can park beside the hotel for any extra cost.
The hotel in parts is a wee bit shabby chic considering the price.
Only one lift operating.
Staff were helpful. Location perfect
