Great location and staff are very friendly
Very old building inside and out, interior very dated, good do with a redesign to align with other hotels in the same range.
This hotel has great character. It is a little faded but I love that vibe. It was fabulous to sit in the lounge area and admire the gorgeous ceiling. It is in a great location within easy walking distance of town centre and train and bus stations.
Breakfast very good
Tv not working Dust and cobwebs in room
Lovely property
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like
Location of hotel
Its very old building, lift did not sound healthy and rooms are dated
Staff were so friendly and helpful.
Broken tile in bathroom
No Ac
Staff mentioned kitchen closed at 8.00. It actually closes at 8.30pm. Staff reluctant to allow me to ask for dinner from chef. Staff to be more friendly.
Location great comfy room
It's a bit dated could do with a revamp.
Location Breakfast
Nothing
Central position, car parking and staff were excellent
Hotel is tired and needs updating. Hole in the ceiling and bucket catching water in corridor on the 3rd floor!
The appearance of the hotel was amazing ,breakfast was out of this world
Parking was overpriced as I found out if I have booked it privately it would have cost nearly £10 less than the £18 i paid ,its a beautiful which needs a little TLC ,would use again if I come to Cardiff but will arrange parking myself
Large room,Comfy bed,good shower.
Nothing. Except the hallways felt like the heating was on & were overly warm. But that was a minor gripe.
Room was very spacious and the bed was very comfy. Staff was very friendly. We enjoyed our stay.
The construction work outside
Lovely hotel in a beautiful historic building in a very central location, with Bute Park and Cardiff Castle right on the doorstep. The facilities were clean and straightforward, and the room had everything I needed for a short stay.
There is no air conditioning, which is worth bearing in mind during warmer weather. I stayed during the heatwave and the room did get quite warm, although a fan was provided and worked well.
Location was amazing for what me and my friends needed it for. Hotel was clean and staff very friendly and happy to help.
The location and staff were excellent, The hotel has a very grand feel to it but from the past. Lovely
Excellent location, friendly reception team
The carpark was unavailable and not disclosed before we booked.
Veldig fin lobby.
Construction right outside the window that started 8:30 in the morning, also the sound isolation within the building isn’t great. Could hear people outside the door very clearly
Was probably one of the most beautiful hotels in Cardiff Big spacious rooms Lovely big lobby with chandelier Amazing location Polite reception staff Clean bedding but old counterpanes TV that works on basic channels Tea and coffee available in the room
When I checked in - several guests were at reception asking for refunds and to move hotel as their rooms were so bad Shockingly run down and dirty Everything broken, lights, wardrobe, toilet Horrible poor quality, raggy thin towels Awful old electric iron that does not work for cotton work shirts Broken wardrobe hinges, open hole in toilet cistern, empty old sanitary bag box Filthy room, carpets, bath, walls Reception staff taking complaints without any options to resolve when customers are shocked at the state of the hotel Water dripping through the ceiling and buckets and hazard boards in the corridor Carpets were so shockingly dirty that I couldn’t take my shoes off - took photos and let reception know. Prices do not reflect condition of hotel so customers expectations are unrealistic
The staff were very friendly, positioning couldn't be better and there's a definite feel of history there.
The hotel is old so if you like shiny new, it's not the place for you.
Superb location, lobby entrance, service and value for money.
Lift was a bit dated and small.
Great location, staff were pleasent. Breakfast was good value.
Nothing not to like apart from a little tired and could do with a lick of paint and updating.
Evening meals and choices, breakfast, on-site facilities, very accomodating staff, also allowing luggage retention until ready to leave.
Could benefit from improvements and TLC
Room was large, comfortable, breakfast was good. Check in and out excellent
Room was hot
We booked two rooms for four people and chose The Angel Hotel partly because Booking.com prominently advertised “Parking on site”. We were already prepared to pay the £18 charge, although this information is not easy to find during booking. What we were not told before arrival was that the parking could only be used until 7am the next morning. We arrived around 8pm. Because of the parking confusion, we only put our suitcases in the rooms at 9:30pm. The parking situation ruined our evening and cost us £41.20 in parking payments. An evening that was supposed to be a chance to rest after a long journey before travelling home was completely spoiled. On top of that, four people lost the chance to have a proper dinner in a pleasant setting because restaurant kitchens had already closed. Both rooms were visibly dirty. There was dust on practically every surface that immediately catches the eye, and it was clearly not fresh dust. The bathroom mirrors were loose, and the freestanding fan in the room was covered in an extremely heavy layer of old dust. Breakfast was another disappointment: empty or nearly empty buffet trays, inadequate replenishment and guests waiting for basic food. Instead of resolving the complaint, the hotel shifted responsibility onto us. Apparently, we should have found staff to replenish breakfast and, after finally getting ready for bed, contacted the Duty Manager, repacked and moved rooms. As we had booked two rooms and both had the same cleanliness problems, the idea of moving everyone to different rooms late at night hardly inspired confidence that anything would improve. The parking explanation raised even more questions. In June, the hotel publicly stated that it had not had a car park for two years. In response to our complaint in August, it described the parking as a recently added third-party facility over which it had no control. Yet “Parking on site” was still prominently advertised when we booked.
Great location Comfy room Shower brilliant
Location was good
My room was very dated, walls looked like they had wet patches on the wallpaper. High ceilings with cobwebs on the ceilings although overall clean. Curtains difficult to close as the windows were so high. Very soft lumpy bed. Noisy during the night from other people entering their rooms or in the corridor and from road traffic.
Great location and style
Buffet breakfast a bit hit and miss
Perfect location and very nice room. Nice bar/restaurant area with great staff. Good breakfast.
Needs a bit of tlc in places.
Great location, good price and staff very helpful
Could do with a bit of updating, looks tired for a grand building
Lovely staff,lovely breakfast,veryclean
Place needs some TLC, Needs investment,Needs serious upgrade to the building
Room and location
Lifts improvemenrs needed.
Convenient location for train station, shops and castle . The staff are friendly and helpful The Buffet breakfast is good quality. We stayed in a Suite and it was lovely - lots of room , clean and perfect for our stay. Hotel was good value for money
A small packet of biscuits would have been welcome - not essential but always a nice touch.
A charming hotel
Nothing
De ligging
Temperatuur te hoog, geen goede luchtcirculatie
Staff were friendly, approachable and helpful. Breakfast was good. Lication excellent.
Hotel is on a great location and it could be a beautiful hotel but it needs a serious renovation and upgrade. The rooms and the public areas are very dated and everything needs a good spruce up. Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Car park looks more like a derelict building site.
Room was clean and will decorated. Bathroom a little dated but in line with the age of the building. Location was excellent central location opposite the castle. Breakfast was tasty, quality ingredients used.
Location Size of the room
Hotel was very warm despise cool air outside. No air conditioning in toom.
Building and location are great, staff incredibly friendly.
Understandable during a heatwave, but a very hot room. Windows barely open, fan was in a poor state, and outside of PAT testing window (legal requirement for all electronics)
Stickige Flure. Zimmer-Einrichtung sehr in die Jahre gekommen
I had a very good night's sleep as the bed is very comfortable. The room is such a nice size (large) and although I didn't notice any aircon, we had a large fan to use. The location is perfect - close enough to the centre to walk.
The hotel is desperately in need of a revamp. The decor was very tired. The room floorboards were so creaky. Stains on the carpet. The bathroom was functional but that's about the only good point. Nobody was manning the bar. The lift was tiny and scary being in it. It was a decent stay because I had such a good night's sleep but I probably wouldn't return because it just didn't feel thoroughly clean.
Clean good size room, nice breakfast and convenient location.
The room was too hot at night time and there was no fan or air conditioning.
Room, Location was very good, overlooking Cardiff Castle, Breakfast First Class, Staff extremely friendly and helpful. The Hotel is an Old Building however when booking this is realised and taken into account, The Staff could not be better.
Air Conditioning not available
Central location near Bute park and castle
Got faded glory vibes, room was small,no fridge or shaver point. The view of Cardiff castle would have been magnificent if windows were clean.
All.stayed many times.and private rooms and clean.thank you.
As stated all was great.
Mooie locatie, in het centrum.
verouderde kamer.
room was ok , location wonderful
the hotel needs updating and it shows
Staff friendly and extra helpful. Did not have breakfast. Not a big deal for me. Liked the free water in the lobby. My friend liked the peppermint tea packets. Spacious bathroom and amenities. Good water pressure.
One lift operating and slow, small, confined. Back parking was expensive: 18 pounds for a torn up lot with limited spaces.
The room was lovely, great location and great value breakfast!
Rooms looked a little dated but ok apart from that.
Fantastic location, right opposite Cardiff Castle.
Nothing
Breakfast very good.Staff were excellent
Nothing in particular
The building was amazing & it had parking which was a nice surprise. The room was huge and the beds comfortable. staff were really friendly.
Nothing not to like
Location. Staff. Room size
WiFi. Quite tired
The staff were very friendly and i got a free upgrade to a larger room. This historic building is situated in a great location. I often prefer hotels like this, over an often duller modern hotel. Which may be lacking in character. Though i wouldn't stay here if it was extremely hot. You do get a large desk fan in your room, which is normally good enough. Just so long as there is not one of those admittedly very unusual, extreme heat waves we have had this year.Unlike the lobby and corridors, which looked worn and tired. With there being some small stains i observed on the carpets. My bedroom did not look unkempt, rather it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The furniture was clearly old, but old doesn't necessarily mean bad.Other than the shabby looking lampshade the bedroom still looked nice. There is a lift but if you are a disabled person. Make sure you call up before you book to make sure it is working. The breakfast buffet was great value for money and only cost ten pounds. I have had a much better (But usually more expensive) breakfast in other hotels. But the food was still nice. It could be improved upon but i did still enjoy it. There was cooked food such as sausages, fried eggs and hash browns etc along with cold food. Such as breakfast cereals and things like bowls of yogurts and various fruits. This hotel lacks some of the comforts and features, that you get in other more modern hotels. There is free and decently fast free wi fi. However besides no air conditioning, this hotel is not for you if you care about there being things. Such as a gym, health spa, pool, bigger and more modern bathrooms etc There is however apparently evening entertainment on some nights. Which you don't usually get in most hotels. This hotel is great If you are looking for a place to stay, but don't care for a more luxurious hotel. Rather you want to save money but for it to still be nice. Unlike some 3 star hotels this place is not awful.
I like to stay in hotels which are in historic historic buildings. However It was disappointing, how worn and unkempt the walls and carpets are in the corridors and lobby. It would be wonderful if this establishment was restored to its former glory. The elderly and disabled, would also certainly not be happy, about a lift that does not work (at least while i was there). This food is quite nice but can be improved upon. Without going as far as serving the sort of more expensive offerings. That it is not reasonable to expect in a budget hotel. This hotel is good value for money and i would stay here again. Though certainly not during one of those extreme heatwaves we have been having. Due to the lack of air conditioning.
I liked that the hotel was so convenient to the city center, the room was nice with plenty of hot water
I didn't like that the shower was over the bath and you couldn't keep open the heavy sash window probably due to safety, there was a fan in the room but I found it noisy and just circulated the hot air around, the hotel needs redecorating it is shabby looking especially the halls
Location
How hot it was, dead flies everywhere
Prime location in the centre of Cardiff - the hotel retains some of its charm from former glory days. The room was well appointed with good bathroom, shower - hot water and good towels. The cooked breakfast section was very good with quality bacon and sausage.
The decor in the hotel is a bit tired. The breakfast selection on the fruit/bread/cold section was limited and the coffee was instant - which I don't think is acceptable
Location. Walkable from railway and bus station and opposite Bute Park. Large clean room.
Back room- view of large pipes through half obscured window. Flashing on roof or similar meant loud sound of water constantly dripping when raining.
Location
Needs a bit of TLC in the rooms
Convenient for where I needed to be.
Possibly the best location in Cardiff and extremely well-priced. Everything you need in the heart of a lovely city.
All good.
beautiful place, great location
Prime location. Clean, comfortable, and both classic and contemporary combined.
All good.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the castle and rugby stadium a great location with plenty of restaurants and bars close by Great buffet breakfast served in the morning a perfect way to start the day
Very small lift
Charming, historical building with fantastic location. 24 hour front desk. Great breakfast. Quiet and clean.
Things very run down. For instance, tap in bathroom could not be turned off, carpets look grubby, common areas in need of TLC. Perfectly fine for a couple of nights and clean and good value.
It is very central
There were stains all over the carpet. The carpet needed a good shampoo.
O elevador estava a funcionar.
Breakfast was great, lovely friendly staff the only negative is no air conditioning so the room was very hot although we did have a fan. But perfect otherwise.
Only air conditioning. Everything else was perfect.
Posizione fantastica
Where it was situated, right in the middle of castle quarter
So so dated don't think its been decorated or any money spent on it since the 70s
Location was fantastic for all the city centre has to offer
The property is very tired and old fashioned but that is reflected in the price. There are so many beautiful hotels in Cardiff but they are much more expensive.
Room was very good and location was perfect.
Breakfast was really poor. 4/10
Tesisin otoparkına ekstra ücret ödeyerek arabamızı park ettik ancak sabah kalktığımızda arabamızın camı patlatıldı eşimin cüzdanı çalındı. Sakın gitmeyin.
Location
Room. The room was disgusting. Stains on sheets an mattress protectors towels. Carpets.
I very much like the friendly people working there. Very helpful people around is very important when on a break in a busy city.
I can’t think of a single item that I would change. The view from the window of course is amazing. The freshness of the room and sheets. Perfect in my opinion.
Lobby nice and cool along with dinning area
Bedroom very very hot and uncomfortable
Really excellent location, right in the centre, very near the railway station but also easy walk to Canton and Bute Park.
The only downside was that I booked during the heatwave and there was no air conditioning (although there were plenty of fans)
Central, good service and got upgraded.
Lovely hotel but feeling it's age.
Traditional decor, location, value for money.
NA
Great location, spotlessly clean, friendly staff
Cost of the car park
Good location Large room
The bath was dirty and had to be cleaned There was no phone charge point close to bed I was told that I had to leave the parking area at same time as check out even though I paid for 24 hours
The location good Ive stayed many times over the years only negative is not enough Coffe, tea bags in room but that only me saying
Location
Smelt damp & desperately in need of a refurb!
I love it.
All staff really friendly and professional Great location including parking which was also good value Room was ideal in all ways Very clean all areas Would definitely stay there again
Only issue the public areas i.e. corridors very warm
Location was excellent. Staff were very attentive Room very clean
Hotel is looking very tired and smelt musty. Had one of the rooms at the top of the hotel which had a velux window so the heat was incredible. A fan was provided tho. Cold tap ran warm that didn't run cold so no drinking water in room, told staff who alerted maintenance.
great, accessible location. Character hotel with friendly staff. Distinguished former guests.
Ideal location, directly opposite the castle, very central. Staff really friendly and helpful. Beautiful double staircase and chandeliers. Would recommend to friends and family. Will stay again in the future. Water taxi from Bute Park- (opposite hotel and away from the castle) to Penarth is definitely worth a visit, ideally book beforehand.
Breakfast was good but took a while to refill. We must've just hit a bad time when everything was empty. Still had 45 minutes before it ended. Gluten-free options are available, which was great, though. No aircon in 32° heat, but it's so rare for Wales to reach those temperatures! Fans provided though which was a bonus.
Great location, nice breakfast and comfy beds!
Warm rooms due to uncharacteristically hot summer, fan was provided but quite a noisy one.
It was near venue
Not great service at all. No beer. I felt sorry for the guy really as not his fault. Boiling hot rooms. No fans available
Location
No air con 🥵
Room was too hot, no air conditioning or fan. Had to use a plastic container to keep the window open
Great breakfast choice. Friendly and helpful staff (including the 'maintenance' employee and housekeeping staff , who were also friendly and polite) . Great location . I have stayed here before and will certainly do so again
No air conditioning, although an electric fan was provided. With breakfast an additional fee it was not as good value for money. The hotel in general is a little 'dated' in the rooms and corridors although the entrance hall and staircase are very attractive
The old character and location
Needs decorating. Left to deteriorate it seems
Brilliant location, decent facilities and the room was spacious.
Got the family room with 3 beds got to the hotel and was forced to pay another 100 pounds to have the 3rd person stay in the room.
Location was perfect, central to everything. Staff friendly and helpful. Beds comfy.
No air conditioning and bedroom very hot although they are having a refurb soon.
