It’s incredible that in 2026, at a chain like Sheraton, hardly anyone speaks English. It is far from any attraction! They say breakfast ends at 11, but by 10 there’s nothing more to eat. The staff only knows how to say sorry sorry sorry but they do nothing to please the customers but for the simple reason that they do not speak English and work like robots! They are not smart at all

Unacceptable Experience – Completely Ruined Our Family Vacation We booked a stay for a family of 6, expecting a smooth and enjoyable vacation, but were met with terrible management, outdated facilities, and non-existent service. Family Separation & Key Card Nightmare: Despite booking for a family of six, they split us up into two different floors (a double room on the 5th floor and a room for 4 on the 3rd floor). The staff seemed entirely unable to comprehend that separating parents from children during a family holiday is unacceptable, and that young children cannot be left alone on a separate floor. To make matters worse, it took us nearly two hours of frustrating back-and-forth to explain that the room keys only allowed access to our own floor, leaving us unable to even visit our children's room. Even after they supposedly fixed the key cards, they only worked sporadically. Outdated & Poor Quality: The hotel looks and feels stuck in the 1980s. Everything is dated, worn down, and poorly maintained. Overpriced and Unappetizing Food: The food was awful and outrageously expensive for the quality provided. Adding insult to injury, we were forced to eat off plastic plates all week like toddlers in a daycare. Chaos & Noises: The hotel was overflowing with toddlers and infants (ages 0-5). It felt like staying in a chaotic kindergarten rather than a relaxing resort. Language Barrier: The staff barely understands basic English, making even the simplest issues impossible to resolve without major frustration.

We recently stayed at the Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort during what appeared to be an extremely busy, sold-out period, and overall we had a very enjoyable stay and would happily return. From the beginning, it was clear that the hotel was making a genuine effort to accommodate guest requests despite operating at full capacity. That said, we did have to advocate for ourselves quite a bit to ultimately receive the room and amenities we had requested. At check-in, the hotel had run out of foam pillows, which we requested ahead of time for health reasons, and replacements did not arrive until the following day. We were also initially assigned a room overlooking roofs and air conditioning units despite booking a partial ocean view room and holding Marriott Bonvoy elite status. As a first impression, it felt more like a downgrade than an upgrade. Fortunately, Mr. Shinagawa at the front desk handled our concerns professionally and worked hard to find a solution. Thanks to his efforts, we were moved to a much more appropriate room and were able to enjoy the remainder of our stay. One challenge throughout the stay was breakfast. The restaurant experienced significant lines every morning, with waits sometimes exceeding 20 minutes. This was understandable given the occupancy levels, but it did make for a less relaxing start to the day. Once seated, however, the experience improved considerably. The dining staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary restrictions. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine desire to help were among the best we have experienced at any hotel worldwide. The food itself was also very good, with a wide variety of options and consistently high quality. We also dined at Senses in the evenings, and the wait staff there were phenomenal. Every interaction was warm, attentive, and professional, and they consistently went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable dining experience. The service culture throughout the resort was impressive, but the team at Senses deserves special recognition. The resort's beachfront is absolutely beautiful and ranks among the best we have encountered in our travels. The beach, views, and overall setting make it easy to understand why this property is so popular. We also enjoyed two treatments at Churaku Spa with Mai Koreeda and Misa Agena, both of whom were wonderful. The spa experience was excellent and a highlight of our stay. Le Ha Dinh in the lounge provided outstanding service and was always welcoming and attentive. The lounge itself was pleasant, though the offerings were fairly modest during happy hour—very light snacks, fountain drinks, and alcoholic beverages. While not one of the more substantial club lounges we have visited, it was still a nice benefit to have at a resort property. As Marriott Platinum members, we also received complimentary access to a glass-bottom boat excursion, which turned out to be a fantastic experience and a memorable perk of staying at the hotel. Overall, what stood out most was the staff's willingness to help. While there were some frustrations early in the stay, particularly with the initial room assignment and a few missed requests, the team consistently demonstrated patience, professionalism, and a sincere desire to make things right. Their efforts did not go unnoticed. Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort offers a stunning setting, excellent service, and a memorable resort experience. We are grateful for everything the staff did to accommodate our needs and would gladly return on a future visit to Okinawa.

Het ligt op een rustig stukje, en je hebt meteen het vakantiegevoel als je hier bent. Prachtig strandje, goed zwembad en fijne faciliteiten. Op loopafstand van verschillende eetgelegenheden, maar wij hebben veel gebruik gemaakt van opwarmmaaltijden uit de supermarkt (zijn magnetrons aanwezig) + room service. Daarmaast worden er diverse activiteiten aangeboden via het hotel om te doen, zoals snorkelen, duiken, of suppen. Prima prijs en fijn hoe ze dat ter plekke regelen.

Wachtrij soms bij ontbijt en nog betalen voor bijvoorbeeld parasol op strandje (ging bij ons trouwens al om 17.30 dicht- wat voor ons avondmensen best vroeg was).

The capacity of all facilities is so huge, that it seems like there is nobody in the hotel. But in the reality there are many people.

This is by far the best hospatility staff at any Sheraton I’ve been too. I dined at the restaurant”Grill” on premise and had the pleasure of having Yui Okawa as my server. She and the rest of the staff couldn’t have helped me any better navigating the menu. First night they rocked it. The food was amazing

No where to eat! Told restaurants are fully booked, watch outside as they are 75% empty. No lounge, was sold a lounge. The outdoor pool shuts at 5.30!! That’s the nicest part of the day.

Great hotel! I wasn’t with my family but very family oriented with a children’s activity room, a ball pit, and a playground (outside). For those that are older, the MegaZip Zipline (800 feet long) was awesome. You need to pay extra, but they will film using a drone. Glass bottom boat was cool. Saw lots of fish. Even have a pond area in their lobby with a variety of fish. Buffet and off the menu food was delicious! Definitely would stay there again!

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price Believe the negative reviews—this hotel was awful. You either have to walk nearly half a mile and take multiple elevators to reach your room, or stay in the 36-year-old main tower, which feels badly in need of renovation. The overall layout is inconvenient and frustrating. The lounge is a disgrace. There was only one beer on tap, very limited liquor selections, and the food offerings were laughable. Serving pancakes from a machine to guests paying $300–$500 per night is simply unacceptable. We were so disappointed that we decided to cut our trip short. This hotel is soooo much better than lots of the reviews report. The staff are excellent, friendly and work so hard. Thank you to everyone who made our holiday great. We were a little worried from some of the reviews that there may be a language barrier, but this wasn't the case - lots of the staff spoke good English which really helped us. Everyone went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our time there. The infrastructure of the hotel is looking a little tired now, as other reviews correctly suggest - I understand there is a refurb taking place this winter. Lots of local restaurants to visit within easy walking distance from the hotel - we didn't have a rental car but this didn't impact our stay at all. Thanks Sheraton Okinawa!

I read many reviews before we came here and I’m here to confirm some and dismiss other’s. Here’s my thoughts for what it’s worth. While the resort has some areas that appear a bit older I wouldn’t refer to it as dated or rundown. It reminds me more of the atmosphere you get in tropical locations rather than a big city. We stayed in a deluxe, ocean view room in the main building. We walked over to the new South Tower and didn’t feel it would be worth the extra cost. We like being in the main building. Pretty ocean view from the lobby and many places to sit. Senses restaurant had a great variety of Okinawa style foods to try in their lunch buffet. We will definitely be eating there again. The beach/pool area has inexpensive food/drinks you can order and take to an outdoor table to enjoy. I didn’t find the drone to be bothersome. I thought it would be annoying but it wasn’t. It takes pictures of people zip lining. Yes, Beach towels are indeed free for hotel guests. We bought the pass that covers the cost for 2 daily beach loungers with an umbrella. It’s not uncommon for hotels to charge for that type of service on the beach in my experience. No additional charge for Pool chairs and umbrella. You can easily walk about a mile or drive/taxi to more reach more authentic Japanese restaurants. *Everyone working in the hotel has been super polite and hard working and helpful to ensure your happiness and enjoyment. However only a few speak English. That’s ok! It’s their country! Everyone tries to work to understand. Only negatives: Many young children are here because Japanese families seem to vacation here. Probably not good for romance/honeymooners. There is a piano in the main lobby which kids can play even if they don’t know how. 😵‍💫 Would be good to remove it. Overall we would stay here again!

This Sheraton? Sunmarina. Is an extremely outdated and in need of renovations. - OVERPRICED!!! - everything costs money! Even bottled waters 500 ml is ¥ 350!!! Breakfast buffet is Small. Expensive and not tasteful. 🤮! -Front desk staff are RUDE! -Outdoor swimming pool is 🔥 hot 🥵🥵!!! Pool Slides were Broken The Entire week!! Lifeguards are not qualified nor properly equipped or trained in BLS. Never returning! Only good thing was Ms. AYAKA! She works at the Tours & Recreations Office! She gave me and my US Marine friends FREE Scuba diving! FREE Beers from the bar! Her husband Charlie is a US Marine @ Camp Hansen. Just ask for Ayaka! Tell her you know Charlie!

Public transport in the area is a bit difficult to navigate. Taxis and Ubers are efficient but can be expensive if travelling long distances.

This hotel is an oasis, with its own indoor reef, sorrounded by sea water inside and outside! The view from the room is amazing, room 725, the sunset, the sea… Also I have to mention the profesionalism of the employees, the kindness, respect and knowing so well to please you! Eishin Nakama from the reception, you are the best! You made pur stay perfect! Also Rojan and Victor Fernando from the reception, all our wishes have been solved! We ate at The Grill restaurant many times! Exquisite and refined dishes!

It is a beautiful property with an indoor and outdoor pool. There are slides at the outdoor pool. They have a private beach with a boardwalk to walk on (and take great sunset pictures on). There is a buffet restaurant and yakiniku restaurant on-site. And, so much more. A very enjoyable stay.

Not as good as it seems on advertising. Food was not good , staff was okay. We stayed there for the mega zip line but it is poorly managed. Close early without notice. It is like hit or miss. We didn’t get to go on until the say we are leaving. Would not recommend this hotel. Not worth for this price.

The hotel had a beautiful fish pond in the foyer, with skate, puffer fish and many other fish, and food to feed them with. A whole wall of the ground floor was dedicated for drawing on and at the end of the week was repainted, great for kids. Outside was a huge lake of water with various types of fish and a turtle 🐢! The greatest buffet breakfast with so many different options and freshly baked croissants. The rooms were good but a little tired looking

I didn’t like that every little thing you had to pay for. Pay to rent a towel, pay to use a sunbed and umbrella at the beach, pay to use the sauna etc. For a resort I find it crazy that not one thing was included in your stay.

I stayed in the South Tower. The staff, amenities, facilities, food, rooms, and spa were excellent! I have been to a few islands on Hawaii, Boracay Philippines, Cayman Islands, Aruba, Curacao, Miami Beach, and the Florida Keys for beach vacations. I am only mentioning this to emphasize that Okinawa is a top 3 destination for me and this Sheraton is probably the best resort I have stayed in. I love this place!

Seems like everything in this hotel requires an additional charge. want to use the inside pool? pay. want to use the beds in the HOTEL'S private beach? pay. parking? pay. "airport shuttle available" - is it? a day before our arrival the hotel sent me a message telling me there is no such service.

Outdoor pool pleasant, although zip-wire and drone activity for photos overhead took the edge off a quiet relaxing time. The ocean views from the room were nice. The lobby was impressive with its fishponds and lighting at night

A double bed for 2 over 65yrs that was stuck into a corner and whoever drew the short straw had to clamber over the other (or out of the end of the bed) to get out at nighttime for the bathroom - this setup is totally unacceptable. The dinner served at the al-a-carte restaurant (Senses) was appalling - a beef curry served had no meat, just gristle and fat disguised by the curry sauce. It was sent back and we chose no alternate so went without. Breakfast was the poorest of all breakfasts we enjoyed throughout Japan. Expensive and catering for families making every opportunity to profiteer in a captive market. The resort charged for extras at every turn. We were expected to purchase a one-off pass to use their indoor pool, The senior staff (management), talked down to the service staff, often rudely and expected them to convey a decision by management to guests. The junior (front facing staff were nonetheless very polite). We tried to get our room changed from the corner-bed double to something more accessible, but needed a very long and exhausting debate with management before they offered a change from night 3 of a 5night stay. They even wanted us to pay extra for it!

The indoor pool was out of order and we were mot informed before getting there, the weather wasn't warm and we were banking on that. We shortened our stay due to that and still did not get a refund for the entire sum. The staff weren't very helpful in the many questions/requests we had. They did not have or offer any luggage service unlike all the other 30 hotels we stayed in at Japan. And they couldn't help me at all. Everything was chargable, even a cup of coffee...

The standout feature of this property is undoubtedly its location. To be honest, I likely wouldn’t have chosen this hotel if it weren’t for its beachfront setting. The rooms are in serious need of renovation. While the size was adequate and the balcony was a nice touch, the décor and fixtures felt outdated, and there was a noticeable mildew smell. Despite setting the A/C to the lowest temperature, the room remained a bit humid for my preference. The lobby, which features an aquarium, had a strong fishy odor—an interesting but somewhat unpleasant quirk. During our stay, only one restaurant was open, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with both à la carte and buffet options. Fortunately, the food was actually quite decent. One of the biggest highlights of the hotel was the beach activities. Guests have the option to purchase a pass for a one-time fee of 4,000 yen per person, which grants unlimited access to a variety of amenities. This includes kayak and water bike rentals, zip line access, beach chairs with umbrellas, indoor pool entry, and more. This added a great value to the stay and made the beachfront experience even more enjoyable. I also booked a spa treatment during my stay and had a fantastic 90-minute massage and facial for 20,000 yen (about $135 USD). It was a wonderful experience and definitely worth it. While the hotel had its quirks, it also offered some great features that made the stay enjoyable.

We’re family of 5, with 3 young adults, planned to dive, so we chose to stay at this resort. We had 2 rooms, and it was spacious with 3 comfortable, and not too narrow, beds in each room. The location was close to the diving spot, the Blue cave. We loved the fact that the hotel had private beach and pool area with lots of facilities. What we didn’t expect is the amount of guests with small children. It looked like the hotel focused so much on that customer group, that it felt wrong for us to stay there. The service at the restaurant was lacking. We had to wait a long time before being serviced, especially with the a la carte option. The best would be the buffet. What is important for us after diving, is to dine at the hotel, and relax afterwards, but we had to dine outside the hotel. Otherwise, the service was top notch. The hot spring is not huge, but it’s high standard. My recommendation would be, if you don’t have any small children, it would be wise to choose another place. They were allowing children to play the piano, so the trip was rather stressful than relaxing.

A very disappointing experience by a Sheraton brand resort, for the following reasons: 1. The AC in both rooms we booked are not working. Even when set to 18 deg, we have had to open the balcony windows to ventilate the room. Stuffy and difficult to sleep. 2. The TV entertainment system is very outdated, with only one English news channel and no movie channels. The TV is an old desktop desk, not the smart TV that many equivalent class hotels are already offering. 3. The quality of the food at the buffet breakfast is mediocre. The quality of the hotel is not worth the price it charges. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Okinawa.

My family visited came to Okinawa Dec 2024 and chose to have a stay here at the Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort with my Marriott Bonvoy elite status points. Even thought the resort is starting to show its age a little, the overall resort is super nice with an access to a private, beautiful beach. On the beach there are tons of summer sport activities that you can try out for a fee, such as: the Mega Zipline, snorkeling tour, banana boat, sunset cruise, etc. However since we went in December, some of these activities were not available, so we ended up just doing the zip line only. Location wise, it's in the middle of the island so not too far from the airport and not too far from the aquarium. Across the street there is a place where you can by Ryukyu glassware. If you walk out the main entrance and go to the right, there will be a lot of local eateries about .5 miles or so. Front desk service was nice, as they recognized my Marriott Titanium status and gave us a room upgrade of an Ocean View, High Floor, Maisonette Guest Room with an upstairs loft. As you walk off from the front desk, behind the counter you see a group of elementary school aged kids greeting us. I thought it may have been training for them. ^^ Also there is a unique feature of the hotel is a sizable pond in the lobby where all manner of fish/sea life that will memorize both kids and adults alike. There were lion fishes, puffer fishes, stone fishes, sting rays and a whole slew of others. Went up to our floor with the fast elevator, and into our room and it was huge, not just Japanese standard, but in general. If you walk out the patio, you can see a beautiful view of the beach. Sheets were clean and crisp. The bathroom had a modern hand shower with a separate rain shower, next to a tub. The Sunset Lounge was available for guests of status, but catered towards the western palate. Mostly of appetizers and various drinks, which includes the Okinawa brand, Orion Beer. The breakfast was Buffet Style, serving both Japanese and western palate. They also include some traditional Okinawan cuisine for breakfast such as Okinawa soba, and more. It was quite busy with guests from all parts of Asia, even in the low season when we were there. They have plenty of ware in the gift shop for you to bring back some Okinawan souvenirs such as traditional sweets/snacks and the local liquor, Awamori. There is also an Onsen (温泉), or hot spring bath available in another building. Since a lot of Marriott properties does not have an Onsen it was definitely a plus. However, being that it was winter and after you warm up in the Onsen, if you walk back to the hotel, it defeats the purpose of getting warm though. Overall it was a great experience but there may be room for some improvement. Nitpick stuff such as updating some rooms to be more modern. Biggest gripe was (and not totally fault of the hotel) was that even at the slow season, there were SO MANY people at breakfast that were cutting in line, and generally causing a mess and nuisance. Aside from that, if I could give 4.5 points I would, but since I can’t, I’ll give it a 4.

There is practically one restaurant serving buffet in this resort. We didn’t have a car so we were practically prisoners of this resort during our three night stay. One waiting staff, about 50 years old asked my wife’s age when taking our order. This was very inappropriate and unacceptable. We were both 80 something. After taking the order he never returned.

Everything was amazing! The food at breakfast, the food at the senses restaurant in the evening, the beach, the beach activities was perfect!! If we had more time we would do every activity at the beach! The pools, the service was perfect. We really recommend the snorkeling tour!
