The breakfast was HORRID! The food was old and stale, waiters ignored me as I got there and set no table outside. I can live with that. But I can’t live with the food quality - the cold meats were GREY! The flapjacks and banana bread was like card board. Ask them to check, they never replaced it. I left after 3 crackers with cheese 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Reviewed Sep 15, 2026Staff is very friendly and met us at the car to take our bags up to our room. Check in was smooth, less than 5 mins. We were placed right to the elevators which was the best and easily accessible with our luggage. Everything is crisp and clean, the hotel has a fresh smell, and a warm welcome feel. The bedroom was suitable enough for two, amazing view of Melrose and very clean! We had a very comfortable stay. We will definitely be booking in the future again! Thank you so much.

Reviewed Sep 11, 2026Breakfast offered less variety than some of the larger hotels, but what was on offer was prepared and no ques at the egg station. Where most hotels have replaced their barista for super-automatic or bean-to-cup machine they still serve traditional barista made coffee, which is massive plus. Beds were extremly comfortable. Very high staff to guest ratio, with all the staff being super friendly, attentive and genuine. Staff was well presented and the experience was consistent. Loved that I got a call to my room the 1st night to check if everything was too my liking.
I would recommend an updated gym with fewer selectorised equipment. This could be replaced with a functional trainer (a company dual adjustable pulley) and would free up space around the free weights as some areas are a bit 'tight' for walking by when in use and guests are on top of each other or in each others way when training.

The experience was awesome, from the moment I arrived and the porter took my luggage to the point I had to run to get to the office because I slept so well that I overslept by an hour.

First stayed here in 2019, just after opening and l’m happy to see the high standards have been maintained over the years. Rooms are clean and the bed is comfy. Excellent customer service from the staff- special mention goes to Silindile at the restaurant. She went out of her way to ensure a comfortable experience. The Capital Melrose is definitely on my top five for places to stay in Joburg!
