I would like to raise a concern regarding how a very minor incident during my stay was handled. There was an accidental menstrual stain of approximately 1 cm on the bedsheet and mattress. I understand that stains may require cleaning, but I was surprised to be told that this was considered “damage” and that I would be charged IDR 500,000, with the explanation that the mattress needed special cleaning and the room had to be closed. I found this response highly disproportionate, especially from a 5-star hotel. I eventually cleaned the mattress myself with warm water and tissue, and the stain was completely removed. I also asked the bedsheet to be returned to me for cleaning, but they didnt returned it. What disappointed me most was the lack of communication and the tone of the staff, which felt rather accusatory, as though I had caused a significant inconvenience. There was also no prior discussion or clear information regarding the IDR 500,000 charge. I believe the charge is excessive for such a small and completely removable stain, and I expected a more considerate staffs approach from a 5-star hotel. Thank you.

Schitterend art deco gebouw uit de koloniale tijd met een rijke historie. Zeer attent personeel, dat zelfs onthoudt hoeveel minuten je je eitje gekookt wilt hebben. Een geweldige ervaring om in dit hotel te verblijven.

Het wellness centrum kon beter. De sauna werd niet warmer dat 70 graden en het Turks stoombad en bubbelbad waren buiten werking.

The setting and the history of the hotel make it special, and the street outside (Jalan Tunjungan) always has something going on.

The accommodation is beautiful, the breakfast is delicious, and the swimming pool is great. The staff is very friendly, and they were even incredibly thoughtful since we only stayed for one night. It was my boyfriend's birthday, and they decorated the bed with rose petals and brought a slice of birthday cake to our room. It was a very nice gesture that made our stay extra special. Thank you so much for the hospitality.

Just 1 restaurant, I would add another one. Not very interesting menu - I would add other South-east Asian specialities. Tea bags should be changed to proper tea.

Hotel interior is dated, to an extent it felt not clean. 200/100 points go to all the staff - polite and courteous at its best! The GM made effort to greet all Guests at breakfast, which was a nice and rare gesture in most high end hotels these days...

Old colonial style that was beautifully preserved. Staff were exceptional and happy. Shout out to Yoga, Anna, Jelsi and Harold? Great food and buffet was kept hot and filled. Great water pressure and hot. Bed was very comfortable as were the linens. Good walkable location.

Hotel Majapahit is truly a hotel with history. We were hesitant at first, but a good friend convinced us: ‘Surabaya has many nice hotels, but Majapahit has a unique atmosphere. It’s my second home.’ She was right. The moment you enter, you feel transported back in time. The building, the gardens, the traditional food, the staff — everything impressed us. Pak Kahar greets guests every morning with friendly conversations, and every employee, from the doormen to the technicians, is polite and helpful. When we return to Surabaya, we will definitely stay at Hotel Majapahit again

This timeless hotel reflects the times of colonial occupancy the beautiful gardens and spacious rooms are the strength decor is detailed to meet the era.

On two of the evenings we stayed there were outside events in the garden the first one on Saturday night was a wedding that went until 9:15 cresting some noise.

We loved everything about Hotel Majapahit. Staff were so lovely and attentive. We had a very comfortable room, and appreciated walking through the beautiful grounds and heritage hotel filled with photos of the hotel’s history. Loved the located right on Jalan Tunjungan and minutes walk from the mall which had both XXI cinema and IMAX and incredible shopping and eateries. The hotel offered fantastic breakfast quality and variety. We also spent lots of time by the large pool which was shady and quiet. Gym and spa were both great. Our stay was wonderful and we would love to return.

Not a negative, but note the electrical plugs in the room are not Indonesian standard plugs but Type G (UK/ Singapore/ Malaysian) plugs. A power board was included in the room and functioned perfectly.

Nice historical building, worth to visit once Big pool, good breakfast and spa services

Room wasn’t ready at check-in (start at 2pm and we arrived at 3pm); we had to wait 15 minutes to have it prepared. All the afternoon, till 10pm, there was a marriage in the courtyard below our room with high volume music (window were sometimes trembling). Impossible to relax. For breakfast we arrived when the restaurant was half empty but staff were extremely slow in cleaning the tables. The offered another restaurant but food proposal was reduced; we had to wait again 15 minutes to have the breakfast in the main restaurant (was good).

A fantastic hotel, very relaxing just being there. It is in a good area close to cafes, a mall and local sights.

Prachtige locatie en dito onderhouden hotel. Een absolute aanrader om te ervaren hoe het 90 jaar geleden was om in Surabaya te overnachten. Gelegen aan een drukke weg met hoge gebouwen waar je binnen het hotel niets van merkt. Vanuit hotel kun je gemakkelijk verplaatsen naar de oude stad of het nieuwe gedeelte waar je luxe winkels aantreft.

Personnel sympathique mais pas au niveau du Hyatt Yoyakarta en terme de sourire, présence et prévenance. Beaucoup trop peu de transat pour la piscine, nous avons chaque fois du nous installer par terre...

As old costumer who used to regularly stayed in this hotel in 25-27 years ago, and came back again couple times in the past 5-6 years ago, Majapahit still owns the same charms externally. Thanks to the consistent maintenance. And the quality service from the staffs were great - particularly the lady who served in the restaurant during breakfast. I can only assume she’s been long enough working in this hotel. She has the vibes that makes guests feel familiar, feeling ‘I am at home’. Not only she is friendly because it is her job, but she is genuinely welcoming. As the room itself, I love that they still keep the interior and its details as it was. And the fragrance… it’s just Majapahit! Felt like I was in time travel, back to the first time experiencing the hotel. UNFORTUNATELY, it needed some refurbishing especially the bathroom. The fading gold coating for the shower handle, the nonstop toilet water running, the brown stains in corners of the shower. And if I may suggest, we live in digital era. NETFLIX is cheap. But I can understand the new TV would not fit in your beautiful iconic TV cabinet. But I am sure you can mange that cabinet for something else in the room. And also, what is it with the brick-block on the floor to hold the door close to the elevator? I must asking, it is ‘innovative’, but with the hotel price and all of the charm? That block with hand written ‘door holder’ is like the least thing you can afford to change for ‘matching’ the ‘classic’ quality of the hotel. And one more thing, I experienced awkward moment with one of the door men in front. I went out for stroll and came back walking. As I approached the front entrance area, one of the staffs at the front door was in a rush approaching me in a run while I was just walking in with my sister who stayed with me. I stopped to show her the historical flag tower. And the door man asked: “Can I help you?” - in a rather interrogating tone with an attitude of blocking my way.

Some people say the hotel has a spooky reputation because of its long history, but during my stay I didn't experience anything unusual—only a peaceful, elegant atmosphere. If anything, the rich history makes the hotel even more unique and memorable. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Surabaya. 👻😊

Once I entered into the lobby of the hotel, I felt as if I were back in the time gone by. The beautiful interior was really breathtaking.

The breakfast was quite ordinary. It was shocking to find the fried rice was ALDENTE! Perhaps it was left heated unnecessarily a bit long.

This was definitely one of the highlights visiting Java! We did not expect this hotel to be as nice as it was. It definitely exceeded our expectations in the best way possible. The room was very clean and larger than expected. Staff was very kind and helpful. The food and especially breakfast buffet was amazing, with a lot of typically indonesian dishes and fruits to try and taste. Definitely recommend stopping by when in Surabaya!

What a beautiful hotel! I had an amazing historical tour with Banu, a member of the hotel staff. The hotel's heritage has been beautifully preserved. It is an important and symbolic hotel because of the famous flag incident that took place here in 1945, a defining moment in Indonesia's struggle for independence. There is even a room where Charlie Chaplin stayed in 1932, and it has been preserved exactly as it was at the time. I had a wonderful visit!

We've visited the Majapahit before and decided to return to this wonderful hotel this year. As it turned out, this visit was extra special as we got engaged here and the Majapahit stuff did an outstanding job making this engagement feel special. They've coordinated with my fiance from the start to make sure the garden was prepared with a gazebo, flowers and music. The only (minor) improvement point here is the time management and organisation as the set up was delayed by an hour, which lead us to miss the golden hour for photos of the proposal. What stands out about the hotel is the beautiful architecture, room interior and gardens and the exceptional service of the staff. It's directly located at Tunjungan street with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops, yet inside the hotel feels like a quiet oasis. Especially with the addition of the spa, which offers great massages. Though this hotel has a long history and is already very hold, the room and public spaces are clean and comfortable. The Majapahit has great eye for detail, with plenty of amenities in the room and good breakfast.

Markup on drinks was evident - but in context of the reasonable price for rooms this is a small point.

“Anna” at the reception is extremely helpful and welcoming in assisting the check-in process. The deco of hotel is a hybridization of east and west, which is both exotic and nostalgia. Staff throughout hotel always deliver welcoming smile and heartful greetings. Definitely worth a visit as a historical landmark and travel destination.

Our time at Hotel Majapahit was exceptional. It is a beautifully maintained historical gem full of character, acting as a quiet sanctuary right off a busy main road. Right from arrival, the hospitality shone. The team welcomed us warmly, check-in was seamless, and the herbal welcome drinks were a lovely touch. They took great care of us regarding my Accor status, offering a complimentary room upgrade and an extended check-out. The elegant fountains and lawned gardens are rare to find in the city center, and the pool temperature was perfect. Dining at Indigo Restaurant was another standout. The menu offers a great mix of Indonesian, Chinese, and Western dishes at fair prices. Being Cantonese, I highly recommend the steamed garoupa fish. Our server was also a total delight. Thank you to everyone from the Door/Bell Team and Front Office to Housekeeping and F&B for making us feel so welcome. My only minor critiques are a weak Wi-Fi signal in the bathroom and an outdated room directory book that lacked the current spa menu. Still, this hotel deserves its stellar reputation and I look forward to returning.

The hotel has beautiful architecture and a lovely pool area. Most of the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, which we really appreciated.

Our room was pretty damp. We tried to dry our swimming clothes in the room for over 24 hours, but they were still very wet afterwards. We then hung them outside our room door to dry. Later, our room key card was blocked, and when we went to reception to have it reactivated, we were told that drying clothes outside the room was not allowed. While we understand that hotels have rules, this was frustrating given the damp conditions in the room. If clothes cannot dry indoors and guests are not allowed to hang them outside their own room, it would be helpful if the hotel provided an alternative solution. I tried to explain this but didn't get the impression that the receptionist cared about it at all.
