Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff at front desk and lobby restaurant were wonderful. Location was great. Valet service was very good
The room was nothing special. Bathroom small with small countertop. Room was dated. Excepted more luxury from the Berson. The Lobby, halls are very grand. The room was a big disappointment.
We were greeted warmly at front desk.
They only service the rooms every 3 days. We had to continuously ask for basics like toilet paper, tissues, and shampoo to be replaced. Our garbage was overflowing by Day 3. Also, it was very noisy every night with motorcycles and cars racing by. Not the hotel's fault but it was our experience.
We love the Benson in Portland. Not only is it a beautiful building but the staff is outstanding. We enjoy all aspects from valet handling our car, to service and kindness of folks that work there. Location is fantastic as one can walk to most anything in downtown area from the Portland Art Museum to the Saturday Market.
After traveling by Plane, Train, an Automobile from New York to Colorado Springs, Train from Denver to Salt Lake City, and finally Automobile to Boise, we were greeted warmly by Cait&Will at the legendary Benson Hotel in Portland . They made our check in seamless, gave us tips on things to see, and room upgrades. When visiting Portland it has to be The Benson, which has a central location .
Ended up at the Benson after a horrible experience at the Heathman. The two women ( seemed like managers) working the front desk were AMAZING!! They got us in with short notice and upgraded us free of charge after a terrible experience at a hotel (the Heathman) around the corner. Very professional and the speakeasy downstairs was super cool. Great service, clean room, and quick process. Come here instead of the Heathman!
The Hotel is historic, beautiful, and conveniently located in the center of the city. Perfect location to public transportation, restaurants and to explore the city. Super comfortable beds and clean rooms. The restaurant serves a delicious menu. I will visit again.
Professional, knowledgeable, kind & helpful staff. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was immaculate, comfy bed & great amenities. Jazz on Wednesday from 5-7 was an extra added bonus & they were very good. Will definitely stay here again.
The lobby was beautiful and a lovely place to hang out. A beautiful old building well maintained. Apparently, there is a “staircase museum “ at penthouse level, which adds to the appeal.
Room was bare minimum with a smell of stale cigarette? smoke. Weird fuzzy blanket and pillows. Coffee maker hidden and the morning coffee bar down in the lobby had very weak coffee and no decaf. Bed was comfortable, no complaint about that.
We had an amazing time! Especially at the restaurant. John is the heart and soul of this place!
Location is great. Awesome hotel with modern updates
Wife complained that city noise kept her up.
A really beautiful historic hotel, very well maintained. Great gym facilities, comfortable rooms and well decorated. Staff were fantastic too.
Service we a bit slow in the restaurant for breakfast. Downtown Portland is not particularly nice, though the hotel can’t help that!
Recent Stay at The Benson Hotel My nephew was married at The Benson Hotel last week, and our entire family stayed there for the celebration. We absolutely loved our experience. One of my brothers had adjoining rooms with his daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren, ages four and six. My other brother experienced some difficulty checking in because the computer system was down, and his room was not ready for about two hours. However, the staff offered complimentary drinks and chocolates to make up for the wait. The hotel was very accommodating throughout the wedding festivities. We were able to decorate before the rehearsal and in the dining area, and the staff even allowed the couple's special guest to remain at the hotel for several hours. The bride and groom were exceptionally organized and attentive to every detail, which helped make it one of the best weddings we have attended. The servers were efficient and pleasant during both the cocktail hour and dinner. The front desk staff were always smiling and responded promptly to every request, including additional towels and toilet paper. At breakfast, our server noticed that my eggs Benedict were not up to standard. Although I had not complained, the server kindly removed the dish from my bill. My four-day stay at The Benson Hotel was very enjoyable, and I truly appreciated the attentive staff. Their hospitality made an already special wedding even more memorable.
A beautiful old hotel in a great location
This is a great place to, but we like classic places like The Queen Mary, and Hacienda De Los Santos. I made a mistake when I made the reservation, and we were a day late with family and two rooms. The desk manager was very gracious by crediting our payment and supplying both rooms. We had English family with children visiting, and our experience was great. It always is at The Benson. Been going there for 30 years or more. Talk about professional, some of the restaurant waiters have served there for over 25 years.
Huge room with lots of space to spread out. Nice bar, old fashioned but classy interior.
Bathroom was small compared to the size of the rest of the room.
My room was beautiful with a fantastic view. I was in the King Studio Suit Urban View. Very clean and spacious. Really appreciate that everything worked correctly as I had a bad experience when staying at the Kimpton Vintage.
We were welcomed by Johnny on the graveyard shift and it made a real difference after our exhausting trip. He was an xcellent introduction to the hotel. Other staff were also accomodating. The room was very clean and comfortable. Compared with other hotels in the area, this was a good value.
The location in downtown Portland has a lot of history, but is very rundown with open drug use outside. I never felt unsafe but it can be disconcerting for people not familar with the city.
the staff was really nice, we loved the history, the location, the beds were soft, the room was clean and quiet. we had a really nice stay and would recommend it to anyone and return
I wish that the lounge on the bottom floor had hours for kids, so we could have enjoyed that area. it looked really interesting and comfortable, and it sounded like the drinks and food were great but I couldn't leave my kids behind and didn't want to go alone
Loved this hotel! Beautiful, clean and super friendly staff! A shout out to Katherine and Bobby in the restaurant! The entire staff made our stay super comfortable and pleasant.
Perfect center of downtown. We walked to all our reservations! The atmosphere was elegant and grand in a very approachable way. Beautiful for pictures and relaxing overall experience. The room was quite standard with nothing that stood out (good or bad!) They had everything we needed with no extra frills. Which was fine since we did not spend much time in the room besides sleeping and getting ready. The real standout was the incredible staff! We landed in Portland at 1 am and were met with the kindest valet, Johnny!! He really welcomed us and it felt warm and comfortable. The bar is a definite highlight with Cherice quickly feeling like an old friend. The cocktails were delicious along with delightful desserts! This historic stay was indeed, a historic stay! Don't ghost this option when determining your lodging in Portland.
Beautiful hotel, comfortable rooms, great location.
Staff in restaurant/bar was sometimes great and sometimes not. If someone isn't good, it REALLY shows. :)
I've reviewed The Benson Hotel in Portland on Trip Advisor before. It got top marks from me last year during the holidays. During my recent July 2026 visit, once again, I believe it to be the finest hotel in Portland. It's such a grand hotel with historic atmosphere, located right in the heart of downtown Portland. You really get your money's worth in value, amenities, peace and quiet as the rooms are so noise-free. It's such an oasis in the big city. What causes The Benson to really stand out are the amazing hospitality professionals always on duty at this property. When I arrived, I was so warmly greeted (as always) by Lucas, Cait, Zoe, and Will at the front desk. They took extra care to make sure everything was perfect throughout my visit. Like when I locked my keys in my room. They were so helpful in my recovery. And checking in by text to insure things were going well throughout my stay. In the hallway I ran into one of The Benson's hard-working housekeeping pros, Anthelis, and she made certain I had extra towels and that all the room details were in perfect condition... as they always are. The cleanliness of the room was incredible. I was celebrating my birthday that weekend and staying at The Benson was the biggest treat of my Portland trip. I live in Seattle and my wife and I are contemplating a trip to the Rose City for our 50th Wedding Anniversary - and there is only one place we'd stay: The Benson. We've stayed at The Benson many times during our marriage and it just seems the ideal place for our celebration. We know that Ryan, their General Manager, will always see to it that we are well cared for. I can easily recommend The Benson to anyone looking for a great hotel in Portland... and they also have meeting rooms of all sizes for business gatherings, wedding receptions and events of all kinds. The Benson would be an excellent venue for all.
We hosted a business meeting at this hotel in July, and every part of the experience exceeded our expectations. Kelly made contracting smooth and easy, Samantha was a pleasure to work with on meeting planning, and Oliver Wright's AV support was excellent throughout. The meeting spaces and guest rooms were both outstanding, and the banquet staff went above and beyond. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for any business meeting.
Super quality stay at this hotel. Great location downtown, classy, clean, well maintained property. Great staff, friendly and helpful, headed by Bobby at the restaurant. Bobby is friendly, enthusiastic and super helpful. Come see him in the mornings in the restaurant for help, you won’t be disappointed. Great recommendations for breakfast from the front desk. Cheryl’s and Screen Door were awesome! Rooms are spacious and clean. We will be back again to stay at this hotel!
My stay at the Benson was AMAZING! Everything is within walking distance, the interior is well kept, and the employees are extremely helpful. The valets were prompt, and the dining staff gave helpful hints on activities in Portland. I also wanted to give a shout out to Gessena (hope I'm spelling that right) at the front desk. I needed to extend our stay an extra day, and she handled it no problem. Over the course of our trip, every morning my sister and I came downstairs Gessena was at the front desk, would smile at us (more of a, "hey, its that one girl from before," look) and would say, "have a good day!" If the Benson is reading this, she needs a raise, she made the experience for me.
The facility was breathtaking with great food and live jazz. Bobby was so kind and made the experience even more personable and special. l I felt right at home with his wonderful company and guidance on local places. I can’t wait to explore!
We have stayed at the Benson at least 3 times over the years, and this time it did not disappoint. The lobby is fabulous with carved rare wood paneling from Russia, lavish crystal chandeliers, and a lovely comfortable seating area and bar. The location is very close to the Saturday farmers market, art museum, and lots of bars and eateries. Be sure you check out the hallway galleries full of the hotel and Portland history, and famous people that have stayed there. Our room was on the 10th floor this time and very quiet and clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the decor elegant. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay at the Benson again.
What a wonderful stay in Portland! From Will at check-in, Richard for dining, and Sofia at check-out, we had a first-class experience. Since this was our first time in Portland, The Benson was ideally located for city exploration. Thank you to everyone who made this visit special.
We stayed at The Benson last Saturday and booked two rooms. As frequent travelers (Hilton Diamond and Bonvoy Platinum Elite), we were looking forward to experiencing a classic Portland hotel with old‑school charm. Unfortunately, the stay didn’t live up to expectations. Our king room was fine, but our daughter’s queen room was a major disappointment. The mattresses felt extremely old — genuinely like sleeping on a sack of rocks — and well past their usable life. For a hotel that markets itself as a historic luxury property, the lack of updated bedding was surprising. The TV setup was also outdated, offering only limited satellite channels. Most hotels, even older ones, have modernized their in‑room entertainment, but The Benson hasn’t kept pace. Service felt understaffed throughout the stay. We waited 15 minutes for a valet to appear at check‑in, and there was no sense of urgency or apology. It set the tone for the rest of the visit. The one bright spot was the bartender in the lobby bar. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about bourbon — easily the highlight of our stay. Overall, The Benson has great bones and plenty of history, but it desperately needs updated rooms, better mattresses, modern amenities, and stronger staffing. Until those improvements are made, it’s hard to recommend, especially for travelers accustomed to higher‑tier hotel experiences.
The hotel has an amazing classic feel and elegance to it.
The first room I received was dirty (someone’s hair all over the bathroom floor, stains on the carpet and bedding). Ended up complaining and being moved to a suite, when staff was making the sofa bed, they discovered used/dirty linens already on the mattress. Outside of the hotel (a Portland city problem)it’s pretty disgusting with the homeless prowling the sidewalks defecating on the streets and open drug usage, which was concerning with my children accompanying me on the vacation.
I liked the fact to was close to many attractions, and was a beautiful hotel. Upon request, the staff provided a microwave.
The shower was not working properly and taking bath took along time. The water was not flowing evenly. The fact that there was no self laundromat was very inconvenient
We stayed at The Benson and chose this area so we could explore downtown Portland. Fantastic location, so many places to shop and eat within walking distance. Everyone single staff person was incredibly helpful and kind. The beds are very soft, too soft for me with prior back issues. I didn't realize the softness of the beds until we returned late evening. I reached out in the Hilton app explaining the situation and asked if they had a roll away bed. Will responded and said they found one and would have it taken up to the room. Within 30-40 minutes, 2 gentleman arrived with the rollaway bed, extra warm sheets, blankets and an extra pillow. One gentleman rolled the bed in, and we problem -solved the issue with space. He was friendly, understanding and wished everyone a good night before departing. This team went above and beyond and saved me from back issues the next morning. The next day our Uber driver was confused about the pick up spot and the 2 gentleman at Valet helped me understand the Uber driver was parked too far off to walk and gave me the hotel address and encouraged me to message the Uber driver and tell him to pick us in front of the hotel. Truly, every staff member we had an interaction with from the moment we arrived until we left was so helpful. Definitely book your stay at The Benson.
The hotel is very impressive, with classic dark wood and light marble. John, our waiter at the restaurant was awesome.
An extra pillow would have been nice, and parking could be a little sketchy.
The fire alarm sounded, we went to the hall, someone on the intercom said something that didn't make sense on the line of they were still investigating. We waited about five minutes and decided to follow the evacuation plan on the door. We went down ten (10) flights and was told nothing when we got to the lobby from the outside. I am a retired education administrator and am familiar with fire alarms in schools. My husband and I are both 88 years old and infirm. We can still walk carefully but I have severe scoliosis as a result of Polio and two hip replacements. I became very, very sore and could hardly walk over the next two days. I am still very sore. My husband has trouble breathing and has very sore knees and back. He also has suffered a lot of pain. We are extremely disappointed in an issue that was handled very poorly.
Beautiful and historic with a great location.
Beautiful
Nothing
The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was clean and the restaurant had good breakfast food.
Beautiful hotel, accommodating staff. 10/10 would stay here again
First time staying here and not disappointed at all Hotel was clean, very accommodating, staff were always friendly and helpful. We dined a few nights at the hotel dining room and the staff was extremely attentive. I can’t remember their names but everyone from the housekeeper, maintenance, front desk and dining staff. The hotel is beautiful. Good location walkable to many good eateries and coffee places. Definitely will return here next time I visit Portland which is often
We recently held our conference at The Benson Hotel in Portland, and the experience was outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, from the planning stages through the event itself. Every team member was professional, attentive, and genuinely committed to providing excellent service. The hotel's location is another major advantage. Situated in the heart of downtown Portland, it was convenient for our attendees to access restaurants, attractions, and transportation. The combination of exceptional service, beautiful facilities, and a prime location made our conference a great success. I highly recommend The Benson Hotel for conferences, meetings, or any stay in Portland. We look forward to returning for future events.
Beautiful historic hotel that has been tastefully updated in downtown. We had great room service, ate good food and enjoyed the staircase museum.
The TV didn’t have ability for us to connect or login to our streaming apps.
We ate at the Hotel Restaurant and the best part was meeting our server John. He is compassionate, loves what he does, and is the living historian of The Benson. I highly recommend at least stopping in for a drink and talking to John for a few minutes and he will leave you with plenty of stories to tell others.
The beauty of the lobby, knowing how old the building was and just admiring the columns, the flooring, the ceilings and the chandeliers. The whole picture was very nostalgic.
Nothing!
Beautiful hotel. Bathrooms real small.
Homeless issue. Not your fault but we will not stay in that area again.
The Benson Portland was the first stop on transcontinental train trip from Portland to Boston for me and my adult son. The hotel provided a memorable beginning to our travels. The hotel's central location was perfect for us, a 5-minute walk from Pioneer Courthouse Square and an easy 15 -minute walk to Portland's Union Station. The historic public areas of the hotel are beautifuly preserved and offer a wonderful atmosphere for eating, drinking, and relaxation. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Given the quality of the hotel, I found the hotel to be a good value. In particular, the two meals I ate at the hotel - dinner and breakfast - were very good and very reasonably priced. My dinner consisted of a large and distinctive salad featuring fresh lettuce, roasted hazelnuts, and dried cranberries which cost only $10, followed by a hazelnut pudding with ice cream for the same price. My breakfast was substantial and also a reasonable value at $20. Good coffee was avaialble free of charge each morning in the lobby - a most welcome amenity. Perhaps the most memorable aspect of our stay was the stairway between the hotel's 11 stories, which contains a museum of photographs illustrating various aspects of the hotel's history on each floor. I spent a pleasurable hour learning about the hotel's original owner; the hotel's architect; Portland's architecture; entertainers who have stayed at the hotel (including a photo of the a young Billy Joel!), a gallery of Presidents who have stayed the hotel (starting with Taft and ending with Biden); and the coins that were flipped to determine whether Portland would be nameed Portland or Boston. Finally, the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The Benson has become my only choice for lodging in Portland and the standard for my future hotel stays elsewhere.
So much charm oven older hotel was maintained and the modernization of the facility was appreciated!
I could not find anything or disliked.
99% of my stay was great
At the onset we were assigned to a room with blocked view Later I wanted to shift and was given a street view room
To celebrate our upcoming 52nd wedding anniversary, my wife and I cruised the Columbia/Snake river along the Lewis & Clark 1805 trail. The trip ended in Portland, OR. Not needing to get home right away, we decided to visit and explore the City. A trust friend suggested we stay at the historic Benson Hotel. When we checked in, we were greeted by Gabe, who answered our many questions, offered some interesting sights to visits, and marked up a map highlighting their locations. That saved us considerable research time. For our anniversary, the Front Desk suggested we inform the restaurant staff. On duty that morning were Katherine and Bobby. They were most gracious, covered our breakfasts, and treated us to the much-welcomed mimosa drinks to commemorate the special occasion. As such, we were very appreciative for their hospitality and kindness to us. In our room, we learn the power strip on the desk was loose. Not wanting anyone (ourselves included!) to be injured, we phoned and notified the Front Desk. Shortly afterwards, Wilson, the electrician/handyman, arrived, tightened the connection, and fixed the problem. During our stay, we learned if you wish your room to be made up, you need to notify the Front Desk at check-in. In summary, while the hotel itself was lovely, it was the responsive, wonderful, and caring staff that made the place shine and our Portland visit memorable. As such, the Benson Hotel would be our top choice on a future visit.
This is a well placed city center hotel. Easy to get to but use your GPS since there are many one-way streets. Room was a good size especially when we were upgraded to a corner suite. However early morning trash pickup was disturbing. Lobby restaurant was small with limited menu. Downstairs bar was cozy but beware as if it not part of the hotel and you can’t charge to your room. Valet parking was efficient with a very automated phone based notification system. Only one person on duty which did slow things down a little early morning with everyone trying to depart at the same time.
Convenient location. Nice rooms and comfortable bed. Quiet.
No closet or place to hang clothes except hook behind bathroom door.
This place was perfect, so nice and clean, but what really made our trip worth it was Bobby, he was part of the wait staff in the restaurant in the lobby. He gave us all the local spots to go check out, gave us coupons, maps and cards to a ton of places around, it really made our trip down to Portland so much better. He was so personable and kind to us. Thank you Bobby for helping B and I out so much! 再见!
Comfortable bed. Attractive room decor (thankfully it's not one of those hotels trying too hard to be hip!). Good breakfast. Servers Bobby & Richie were beyond friendly and helpful. They made the breakfast experience!
How sad that a beautiful city of friendly people, great food, and fun boutiques is ruined by all the roaming mentally ill, homeless, and addicts. It felt very unsafe, and there's no way I'd go out at night. Sadly, I would never come back.
todo muy hermoso
The Benson Hotel is a beautiful venue for weddings. The ornate architecture, the amazing staff and ease of having an event there, exceeded all our expectations. The cost is very reasonable to rent the venue, and they include many things with that rental. Including complementary penthouse suite for the wedding night. We can’t rave enough, about our magical wedding weekend spent there.
Great location. The facility is well maintained.
Nothing to report.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The bed was really comfortable .
There was nothing not to like ! Everything met my expectations.
The Benson is my "go to"Hotel when visiting Portland. The downtown location makes everything convenient with particularly easy access to the Pearl District and the Pioneer Square area. Its timeless class and modern amenities make for a great blend of style and comfort. The staff is very helpful and Catriona on the front desk was terrific in managing an accommodation request. The Wednesday Jazz happy hour is a great thing... don't miss it!
We had the very pleasant opportunity to spend a couple of nights this month at the Benson Hotel in Portland, OR. We did a lot of fun things in those two days like the Portland Rose Garden and the Japanese Garden, but our most talked about memory is of the hotel itself and its staff. Katheryn, Bobby and others made is not just feel welcome, but were obviously very proud of the hotel, its history, and all the folks who have stayed there over the many decades. We are looking forward to returning to the Benson and learning even more of its elegant history. Larry & Linda
I had a fabulous stay at The Benson Portland! The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and clean, and the food and service at The Honorable Mention sports bar/speak easy was exceptional! Sit at the bar and ask for Justin...he will craft you a delicious cocktail. Oh, and don't forget to order the burger :)
This was my second time staying at the Benson Hotel. Two years ago I stayed for my granddaughters graduation. This time for her wedding. My experience can only be rated A+. The room service for a couple of meals was excellent n very tasty. Highly recommend the Benson.

We had a good three night stay, and enjoyed ourselves as always. This is our fourth visit, and there’s so much to appreciate. In the past I gave The Benson five stars without hesitation. It could have been the luck of the draw, but this time our room wasn’t very comfortable. The corner room’s couch was the most uncomfortable sofa I’ve ever sat on. The hip to knee length was very narrow, and it was exceedingly hard. Same with the chair. It doesn’t make sense to buy furniture where people can’t relax. Also, the water took forever to heat up. We found out that you must move the dial to the furthest point before it became warm. Not hot. This made our stay a bit uncomfortable. Hence the four stars instead of five. On the extremely positive side, every single staff member was friendly, professional, and welcoming. Richie, a server in the Palm Court restaurant, was especially helpful. He recognized us warmly, and remembered our preferences from day to day. The food was always delicious. The hotel is beautiful. It’s a grand heritage building. The people who work here take pride in what they do. From the greeter who shielded us from the rain when we arrived, to the cheerful and helpful front desk staff, it seemed that everyone contributed to the success of our stay.
My package included a credit for breakfast. My server was Richie. Gave me a recommendation to visit the Saturday Market and then meet up with my scheduled tour. What a fantastic suggestion. Richie was attentive to all the guests and greeted each one with a smile and a good morning. The second day when I sat down he came with coffee and creamer. He was great and made my day.
The Benson is an easy walk to The Portland Art Museum, Powell's & the Portland City Grill. The food & entertainment are fantastic & the hotel itself is secure & beautiful. But the best thing about The Benson is the staff. Marc, Cait, Makayla, Bobby, John, Pianist Thilo Kluth, the Valets & Housekeeping all went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The jazz night was one of the reasons we chose The Benson. The jazz group that played on April 29th was fantastic, but we also enjoyed the pianist that plays there on Fridays, Thilo Kluth. Thilo was so good we ended up just eating at the hotel so we could enjoy more of his music. He is a young man with a lot of talent. It was a special treat to hear him; The Benson should include his name on their webpage for events because Mr. Kluth is someone people will want to come hear! The Front Desk/Concierge (Marc, Cait & Makayla) helped us numerous times with transportation & so many other things we needed help with on our first trip to Portland together. We never felt like we were a bother. They were always friendly, knowledgeable & accurate the providing the information we needed. They really made you feel taken care of. Servers Bobby & John really went the extra mile for us. Bobby gave us some great tips while we had breakfast and John made us feel very pampered during some very busy evenings. Both gentlemen were friendly and professional and gave us excellent service. The food, music & dining service at the hotel are so good that the ended up taking several meals at the hotel! My husband has difficulty with stairs, and the valets were amazingly attentive! They did not hover, but they subtly were at the ready in case we needed help. I noticed how they would causally move towards the stairs as my husband left the revolving door and while it was discreet enough, he didn't pick up on it, I did. I sound small but it is a huge tribute to the professionalism and 5-star service of this staff. The room itself was immaculate. So much called on housekeeping once and they dealt with the minor issue of needing more paper goods promptly. The room was so clean we really didn't need anything else. The whole hotel was spotless that speaks of an outstanding housekeeping staff. It's a beautiful hotel with great food, entertainment & a fantastic location. But it's the staff that can't be beat. Looking forward to our next trip!
My wife and two grown daughters traveled to PDX on a 4-day trip to attend a memorial service for a family member. The mood of the trip was subdued but the excellent service we received and kindness by the staff at the elegant Benson made the trip so much better. A huge shout-out to Katherine in the Palm Court Restaurant inside the lobby. Each morning early, when I went down to breakfast, I was greeted by this delightful woman who offered great recommendations on things to do and she was just a great conversationalist. On our last day there Katherine was off-duty, but we had the good fortune of meeting her co-worker Richie who was equally kind, hospitable and really took the time to make us feel welcome. He was really awesome. We booked a junior suite and a standard room and the accommodations were very nice indeed. While there, we did the stairwell history tour and were lucky enough to bump into the head housekeeper who gave us a private tour from the 14th floor access into the stairwell and provided further historical insights beyond what was captured in the photographs and written narratives. She made us feel like VIPs! What can I say about the Gaucho restaurant; the food, the wine and the atmosphere were simply off the chain! I could eat there every night I think. When we checked out, the desk Manager asked me what brought us to PDX, and I told him we were attending a memorial service for my mother-in-law. He offered us his condolences and then "comped" our valet parking for our entire stay. I was floored I didn't even know what to say. On a scale of 1-10, this stay was an eleven. Such an incredible location right in the heart of downtown. We will definitely be back. I told my granddaughter when she gets married we must have the rehearsal dinner at "The Gaucho" and the wedding reception right there at the Benson.
Its beautiful and clean. The staff was amazing.
The elegant lobby, well-preserved from a bygone era, would be a perfect setting for a movie set in the early part of the last century. Delightful! We'd reserved a junior suite with an "urban" view that turned out to be of rooftops. The room itself was spacious, with two sofas and a wall unit that included a desk, but the bathroom was tiny for a room of that size, with barely enough room to close the door without bumping into the toilet or the shower stall. Although we had requested a room far away from the elevators, we were given the one closest to the elevators, because it was the "best" room in its category. This meant we could occasionally hear mechanical sounds, but they weren't terribly loud. We experienced a couple of service glitches: On our first morning, we received a text message from the valet saying they were reparking our car because we hadn't picked it up yet, and it said we'd ordered it for 6 a.m. The thing was, we were still sleeping at 6 a.m. and had definitely not called for our car. Another glitch occurred in the restaurant. I'd ordered my breakfast first, and then my husband placed his order but somehow the server missed my order. It was served after my husband was done, and with basically a shrug. Overall, for the price we paid for the stay, the Benson was adequate, but service could be improved.
Great location for anyone looking to explore the downtown area//located close to several great food & coffee options & the rooftop lounge they have is a cool hang spot - it’s like a 5 min walk from a park by the waterfront, as well.
The bathroom was very nice
It is in a good location in the heart of the city near nice stores and Powell’s Books which is wonderful. The onsite restaurant has a good breakfast and great coffee. There is a fireplace in the lobby and a pianist plays in the evening.
Parking is $59 but there’s a secure lot across the street just to the south for $28. And Portland has a lot of homeless people in this area.

Room was clean and bed was comfortable.
Very vanilla. No special amenities. Food was left in our room fridge. Room view looked like we were in prison.
Great location
The hotel was clean and comfortable for a fair price. Our waiter in the morning, Bobby, was very friendly and he's been working at the Benson for over 40 years. I enjoyed hearing his stories of the people he met including Jerry Garcia. Can't wait to come back.
Beautiful welcoming lobby. Great Location: walking distance from the Art Museum, the Oregon Historical Society, Portland Center Stage, Powells Bookstore, great restaurants and shopping in the Pearl District.
Old Veritable masterpiece of a hotel: Elegant, clean , and well located ,
Nothing
I enjoyed my stay at the Benson. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the staff was very kind and attentive. Richie in the Palm Court restaurant was very kind and cheerfully served me decaf coffee with cream every morning as part of the complimentary coffee service. I will definitely come back to the Benson for my next trip.
Beautiful hotel with exceptional service! Bobby in the restaurant makes the best lattes with a unique preparation method. He will brighten you day!
The Benson is a favorite place for us to stay in Portland. The rooms are beautiful and easy for us to have our family come be with us before going out! The views are spectacular. Service from the hotel staff is exceptional. Starting with checking in and help getting us settled in our rooms (moved our adult children to another room when there were issues with a/c), great suggestions for other activities. It's centrally located for activities in Portland, it was very east to get to our party from the hotel either walking or taking an Uber, I love not having to worry about parking in Portland. The lobby is a cozy place with the fireplace to hang out and enjoy friends and family. The hotel is an amazing building with all of the marble, carved wood and restored elegance. We enjoyed breakfast both days with our servers Richie and Bobbi, who shared their many experiences in the hotel and many famous visitors over their many years of employment at the Benson, the service was exceptional. Looking forward to our next visit!
I have wanted to stay at The Benson for a very long time, and finally booked a stay for a romantic weekend. The hotel is beautiful! I always struggle with sleeping at hotels, and I had the best sleep I have ever had in a hotel. I interacted with staff very little, as I had no need to, but what few interactions I had (a very pretty girl with long white blonde hair and a tall, younger gentleman) were pleasant, helpful and friendly. Being in downtown pearl was great, and we were easily able to walk 3/4 of our trip from the hotel. The mini stairwell museum was also a cool fun find! 100% would stay again and absolutely recommend!
大厅很复古
如果第二天不做清洁,应该给瓶装水补上。
Grand old hotel decently located in a city challenging for downtown locations.
The amenities are like a basic chain hotel location, nowhere up to the standard that the building and its history deserve. One glaring example is the horribly chlorine tasting water served in the Palm Court restaurant. The wonderful waiters will not allow you glass to get empty, but the water is not really not pleasant. What a miss!
Fantastic - highly recommend. The gym is out of this world and the best I've seen in all my travels. Perfect location for anything you plan to do in Portland and the parking is a breeze. The lobby is stunning and really welcoming. Incredible value for money. Wonderful staff (especially Marc - thank you, Marc!) - so kind and helpful. Truly recommend. I've stayed in many different Portland hotels and this is by far the best.
There was a very kind valet that pushed my mom's wheelchair through the ramp entrance where we were struck by the elegance if the interior decor. The front receptionist was very friendly and the check in was super smooth. The view from the very comfortable 6th floor urban view room was great and the temperature and ambience was perfect for rest. Any need you have is promptly addressed by staff here such as incidentals delivery to free water refills at the gym and complimentary bottles as well as directions to neighboring businesses. The fireplace in the lobby and the valet when we were leaving were great as well. I am awestruck by the quality of our stay and we want to come back again if we have the chance. I've been to 19 countries but this was the best hotel stay I've experienced and my mother really enjoyed and was grateful I arranged it as well
One of the best hotels I have been to. Staff were wonderful. Room was great. Beautiful lobby with vintage atmosphere! If you come to Portland you definitely should stay here or at least visit for the ambiance. Also Bobby our server was wonderful.
Staying at The Benson Portland, proved to be an exceptional experience at a classic hotel. All of the staff were friendly and always asked if there was anything else they could help
Staff were very friendly and assuring. Everything was clean and nice

We stayed at the Benson for two nights while in Portland for a party. We received great care by the staff, starting with the valet, the front desk staff, the porter, the waiters in the restaurant, and housekeeping. They made sure to take care of all of our needs. We'll be back.
Beautiful lobby
Bathroom. Dangerous bath tub. No handholds. Slippery floor.
Beautiful lobby. Friendly staff
The area just down the road from the hotel did not feel very safe. Room was a little cramped.
Good location. Professional staff. Comfortable room and bed. Clean. Definitely worth walking down the 12 stairwell to see their pictures as soon many US presidents have stayed here.
The location was very convenient, all the staff was more than accommodating.
Bathroom door failed to close fully and lock, the ac didn’t get super cold but I wasn’t as big of an issue.
The Benson is a beautiful hotel located in the heart of Portland. You can bike, walk, drive or take any other means of transportation to quickly be where you want to be in Portland. Plus, the hotel is beautiful and the beds are comfortable!
No bones to pick!
I enjoyed the location. It was in walking distance of a good selection of eateries and shops. The staff was kind and welcoming, check-in, and check-out were easy and fast. The rooms themselves were clean, and the shower water was also quite hot (which I love). The valet was quick and convenient.
The Benson was an absolute win on my first ever trip to Portland. From the second I pulled up, the experience was easy. Valet was smooth, there was plenty of room to arrive without feeling like you were trying to find a place to squeez in, and the valet team was consistently kind, accommodating, and quick both on arrival and whenever I needed my car. The hotel itself is gorgeous. Not fake-luxury gorgeous. Real, classic, old-school gorgeous. The kind of place that makes you stop for a second when you walk into the lobby and think, "Wow!" The architecture and design have that turn-of-the-century grandeur that feels rich and elegant without being stuffy. The lobby in particular is one of the most impressive I have seen anywhere - dramatic ceilings, beautiful woodwork, and a mirror fit for a French King. Check-in was simple and painless. My room was spacious, comfortable, and had one of those beds where you lie down and immediately question what the heck kind of mattress is this, and where can I get one. I also had a large executive desk, which made it a genuinely cozy and functional place to get some work done. The gym was another pleasant surprise - and not one of those “fitness center” situations where they give you a treadmill, two dumbbells, and a broken water mater. This was a real gym. Big, well-equipped, lots of room, and even two Pelotons. But the real highlight of the stay was the staff, especially Tara at the bar. On my first night, I was still running on East Coast time and had some time to kill before dinner with friends, so I grabbed a seat at the beautiful bar and just wanted a quick bite. Instead, I got a genuinely memorable experience. Tara was warm, funny, welcoming, and one of those people who instantly makes a place feel better. We ended up chatting about Portland, Irish dancing, and the history of the hotel. Another night, she recommended dinner for me and every single suggestion landed - appetizer, entree, bread pudding, all of it. Easy 'clean plate club' FTW. Breakfast also deserves a mention. Try the yogurt and fruit. That sounds like an aggressively boring recommendation until you eat it and realize the fruit is somehow perfect. The neighborhood was great too. Easy walking distance to all kinds of excellent spots, including Maurice (Small hole-in-the-wall French place you'll be blown away by) and Powell’s, the world's largest bookstore, is basically right there too. All in, I loved my stay at The Benson. Beautiful hotel, great location, excellent amenities, and a staff that knows how to make a place feel special. I would happily stay there again.
The first time my family stayed at The Benson was three years ago; we were impressed with the ambience, location and service. Since then, The Benson has become a home base for my family and I when we are in Portland. The baseline expectations are met, but beyond that, The Benson has offered a comforting and comfortable space to do life while away from home. Yes, the amenities are excellent; the building itself is both beautiful and dignified, my high expectations of room cleanliness and comfort are exceeded, the location is convenient and familiar and everything is walkable and available. More importantly, The Benson crew is the heartbeat of this hotel. They are unfailingly kind and attentive and not just because "it's their job." They are people that are perceptive, who gently and intentionally cultivate a place and experience that welcomes and comforts you when you're in a place that is not your home. That is what makes this hotel special. Hotels are never quite "home" but The Benson is a place that offers comfort and ease when you are visiting Portland.
This hotel is beautiful. It is very nicely decorated in an upgraded historical fashion. You are welcomed with beautiful chandeliers in the lobby, sitting area and restaurant. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by 2 very kind ladies at the front desk and checked in quickly. The elevators are so much fun with mirrors on the doors, perfect for selfies and before and after pictures. My son and I visited during spring break. We enjoyed the clean and spacious room with very comfortable beds. The hotel is perfectly located in downtown Portland near coffee shops and restaurants. It's walking distance from Powell's Bookstore and the Waterfront Park. Only a 10 minute drive to Washington Park, the Rose Test Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Hoyt Arboretum. During our stay we enjoyed breakfast at The Palm. Breakfast options were great and the food was delicious. Coffee is really good. I believe it is starbucks. Kathryn made breakfast and our stay extra special. She was very attentive and friendly. Even offered some tips and suggestions for our visit. We absolutely enjoyed her kind gesture and service. There was a night of jazz during one night and it sounded great but we were too exhausted to stay downstairs. Complimentary coffee is offered for guests everyday. All in all, we fell in love with Portland and will definitely be staying here again.
This was our second visit to the Benson Hotel. Everything about this place is professional and helpful. Front desk girls suggested fun things to do and helped us understand the bus system. Also printed our boarding passes on our departure. They had a Weds. nite jazz combo which was very enjoyable at cocktail hour. Had breakfast at the Palm Court. If you eat there, hopefully you will get to meet the waiter Bobby. He has been there I think about 45 years or so and is a wealth of information on the history, famous people who he has served, and was quite inspirational. Also visit the stairwell that contains historical photographs of the people and events that made the Benson what it is today. Corner room was exceptional. Highly suggest this establishment when in Portland
