Hotel Carlton On The Grand Canal

The hotel did not live up yo my expectations of a 4 star hotel. It was run down and in need of refurbishment. The bed cover in my room looked 4 years old and had a hole ar some stage and had been patched. The bathroom was very outdated and the bed very uncomfortable.

Las ventanas son antiguas y no cierran bien, pero supongo que como casi todas en Venecia Toda una experiencia habitación con vistas al canal, aunque desde muy pronto los ferris hacen bastante ruido.

Beds were kind of hard, but a minor issue

With a view over the Grand Canal - what was not to like?? Large room, huge modern bathroom, small fridge small balcony. Furniture was of an era but comfortable. Aircon was functioning well. The location of the hotel directly opposite the train station was ideal with great access to the Vaperetto that can take you up to St Marc's square. Conversely, you can just wander the streets and "get lost" which was just as fun!

Thought some of the sheets/pillow cases were looking a little threadbare. The curtains made it a little difficult to open the window to get to the balcony. Getting your luggage up over the bridge is a challenge - pay the $$ to the scavenging porters with the trolleys to carry it over for you. I don't understand why they haven't built the ramp system on this bridge as they have for many of the others.

Location is amazing, straight opposite the station. Staff were particularly friendly and helpful. Breakfast provided a great selection. Room was fine although could be quite noisy.

Great location just a short walk from the main station and transport links (including direct bus to airport). Hotel had a traditional and historic feel. Rooftop restaurant overlooking the Grand Canal had good food and service, breakfast was varied.

Läget är perfekt. Nära till tågstationen och till bilparkering och till Canal Grande. Deras restaurang på högsta våningen gav förutom, en vacker utsikt över Venedig, mycket bra mat. Vi åt där tre kvällar och var mycket nöjda. Det var mycket trivsamt att sitta på den servering som fanns framför hotellet. När man satt där och njöt av det pulserande livet på kajen och på kanalen, kunde man inta en kaffe eller en lättare lunch. Perfekt. Mycket bra sängar som vi sov väldigt gott i. Personalen i receptionen är synnerligen trevlig och hjälpsam. Ett ståndsmässigt sätt, men dyrt, är att lämna hotellet med en båtfärd till flygplatsen. Det är praktiskt och bekvämt och en härlig upplevelse.

Rummen är väldigt små med få möjligheter att stuva undan innehållet i två resväskor. Dessutom var väskorna hela tiden i vägen. Men accepterar man de små ytorna så är hotellet i övrigt perfekt och mycket trevligt. På alla hotell i Italien är de som servar rummen sura och ofta otrevliga. Det var inget undantag på Carlton men de gjorde ett perfekt jobb.

Albergo molto bello, molto comodo per girare Venezia. Stanza ben dimensionata. Colazione ottima. Disponibilità e gentilezza del personale. Abbiamo preso la stanza con un ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo. Sicuramente da tornarci.

The location on the Grand Canal was convenient and the hotel is well positioned for exploring Venice. The staff we interacted with were generally polite.

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We were travelling with our four-month-old baby and checked out after only one night of a three-night prepaid stay. The room was significantly smaller and less spacious than it appeared in the listing photographs, especially once the baby cot was added. More concerningly, the cot provided was very old and the netting was visibly dirty, which we did not consider hygienic or suitable for our baby. We had also contacted the hotel several times before arrival to arrange basic requirements for preparing our baby’s bottles, including access to a kettle or reliable hot water. Despite this, nothing had been arranged when we arrived and we found the hotel unhelpful when we asked for assistance. Our baby was so uncomfortable in the cot that we eventually had to sleep with her in the main bed, resulting in a very poor night’s sleep. We therefore checked out the following morning and paid for alternative accommodation elsewhere in Venice. We subsequently contacted the hotel multiple times requesting a refund for the unused nights and have received no meaningful response. The overall experience, particularly given that we were travelling with a young baby, was unacceptable.

La posizione, la nostra camera al 3 piano con balcone sul canale grande,colazione ottima e variegata; terrazza ristorante bellissima e abbiamo cenato benissimo , lo staff in generale molto gentile.

Sicuramente il bagno per un hotel 4 stelle, per una stanza a 500 euro a notte a settembre era veramente bruttino ( avrei preferito un bagno per esempio anni 40 che uno anni 70) Devono rinnovarlo renderlo piu moderno , per esempio c era la vasca e dovevi entrare dentro per farti la doccia e stavi veramente strettino... ti sedevi nel water e avevi la testa nel lavandino .. insomma il bagno era un po una delusione.( infatti ho preferito non aggiungere foto del bagno ma spero facciano tesoro di questa mia impressione che era pure l impressione di altri ospiti con cui abbiamo interagito)

I really liked the view of the canal from our room. The bed was comfortable.

The room was really small considering that we booked a superior double room. The bathroom was tiny and cramped. Unfriendly waiter at both bars and at the reception, no one was happy to help us. Everything was too much.

Room all a bit outdated, shower in Bath difficult to access. Expensive hotel (I know Venice is) but mean feeling - not free bottle of water in room. Roof terrace not open as advertised.

Receptionist was very kind.

The room was dark and loud in the night (constant sound of ventilation or washing machine or similar), it had a terrible view on a dark, stinky yard, the walls had stains all over and the furniture was visibly tired. The worst of all was the breakfast, probably the poorest hotel breakfast I ever had (poor selection of food and a very poor selection of drinks, cheap produce, almost no non-gluten foods, etc). For the high price paid, the whole experience was extremely disappointing.

Prácticamente todo (ubicación, instalaciones, relación-precio calidad, una muy buena atención de todo el personal desde los recepcionistas hasta el personal de limpieza). Sin duda repetiriamos!

La decoración de la habitación en algunos puntos concretos más que antiguo parecía algo viejo, pero no desmerece en absoluto todos los puntos fuertes del hotel.

We love this hotel, it’s our second stay. It’s always clean and the beds are always really comfortable. It’s also in a great location for getting around. The staff are always helpful and friendly.

The options at breakfast aren’t great and it’s quite expensive in terms of value so we always have breakfast out.

Hotel Carlton On The Grand Canal — honest review The room is much smaller than advertised and does not match the listing photos. It feels like a 9×9 box with a standing-only “balcony.” Only one advertised picture of many showed the room I stayed in. I saw the room next to me while they were cleaning it. That was our booked room. The bathroom is poorly laid out. The toilet is so close to the wall you have to sit sideways. Unless you are very small, you have to step into the shower just to open the bathroom door. The shower itself is usable, but the faucets are frozen and the shower wand pipe simply comes out of the wall. There is mold in the shower grout. The hallway carpet is worn out stained and dirty. The room is dirty and worn. Walls are dingy. Door frames are rusted, some rusted through. Paint is cracked and peeling. Dirt sits in every joint and crevice. The bathroom window jamb looks damaged, possibly by insects. The furniture is beaten up — not charming antique, just worn out. Every outlet is blocked by a lamp, so you have to unplug lamps to charge electronics and I keep getting slow charging warnings. Breakfast is the same every day: bland and mediocre. Housekeeping staff were charming and pleasant. Two restaurant/bar employees were also excellent (one buffet hostess and one bartender). Some restaurant staff were sullen. This hotel is run-down, overpriced, and in need of a full overhaul. It is hard to understand a rating above 2 for the room we were given. We also stayed at NH Venezia Santa Lucia. That hotel is what a historic Venice stay should be: marble, brass, glass, antiques, a claw-foot tub, clean, maintained, and staffed by people who care. The Carlton is the opposite — a broken antique glued back together and sold as a canal-view room. They booked a porter for us $45 I paid $20 directly to a porter when I arrived. I refused to a front staff who hung up on me. I got my own porter for $25. I have been traveling the EU almost a month.

Great hotel near train station 🚉 👌 We had view over the Grand Canal and I must say that it was marvellous 😀 and more quiet than expected, so I was positively surprised. The staff was great, we arrived a bit late for lunch but still they managed to prepare two lovely dishes for us because we are guests at the hotel 🥰😍 Room was nice and cozy, love this authentic Venice style with soft silk tapestry on walls. Good breakfast 😋 Everything you need is near by, shops, restaurants and it's quiet, I would not like to like close to center, so this location was perfect 😉 👌

Отличный сервис, профессиональный и дружелюбный персонал, хороший разнообразный завтрак, очень чисто в номере и в целом в гостинице, просила специально тихую комнату поэтому проблем с шумом не было, очень удобная кровать и подушки, убирают каждый день.

Расположение напротив вокзала, не самый лучший район далеко от центра и не самое красивое место в Венеции.

Взяли поближе к вокзалу, чтобы пешком дойти. Но вид из номера на гранд канал - вокзал, не совсем то, что хотелось бы, но мы сами так выбрали. Номера красивые, отель приятный. Завтрак хороший.

Нет утюга, имейте ввиду, только за 12-17 евро вам погладят одну вещь.

Rooms may need to upgrade. Kids got allergy after first night, we don't know what was the reason. When they woke up, red rashes on face and then spread to other part of body. We spoke pharmacy and said possibly bitten by bedbug or similar insects.

Un 4 stelle a Venezia è ormai un 3 stelle S in altre città per esempio piccoli dettagli come la porta del bagno con vernice scrostata, la vasca con doccia incorporata con parete di plexiglass che non copriva sufficientemente la superficie e l'acqua schizzava fuori.

The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. The staff members were exceptionally lovely and accommodating throughout our stay. We also highly appreciated the luggage storage service after check-out, which allowed us to continue exploring Venice comfortably without our bags.

The rooms are very small, noticeably outdated, and ours only offered a view of the inner courtyard. The breakfast was quite disappointing and lacked flavor. Additionally, the terrace was closed for the entire duration of our stay, so we never had the opportunity to experience it.

The proximity to everything we wanted to see. Very close to the Bus and train station. Lovely shower and bathroom. Room quite small, lucky we had small suitcases !

Location is amazing, we got upgrade to canal view and it was stunning. You could literally just sit beside the window and look at the view of boats and people. Breakfast in to the room you have to try, tho it’s extra charge but not so much. Very close to the big parking, it takes 10 minutes to reach with your luggage. The staff were very friendly and professional. The vibe of the place is amazing, we are coming back for sure :)

It can be a bit crowded outside because of the boats but it’s not that bad.

Det er utroligt, at der kun er en enkelt person i receptionen til at håndtere gæsternes spørgsmål og ønsker. Jeg måtte vente mere end tyve minutter for at låne to håndklæder at tage med på stranden. Så snart receptionisten fik tid til min forespørgsel tog det kun få minutter til jeg havde håndklæderne, men der var 3 udtjekninger inden jeg kom til.

Hotel céntrico y muy bien ubicado, enfrente de la estación de trenes y de una de las principales paradas de Vapporeto, lo que facilitaba moverte por la ciudad.

Hotel ya anticuado, los baños y habitaciones necesitan una reforma. Las camas y las almohadas no son cómodas.

Excelente ubicacion, de facil acceso y buena atencion de su personal.

Para ser un hotel de 4 estrellas y tener una ubicacion tan favorable deberian cuidar mas los detalles del hotel, las puertas y espejos de la habitacion estaban oxidados, las paredes de la habitacion estan cubiertas con un acolchado de tela que se nota antiquisimo, creo que con unos ajustes en la decoracion e imagen del hotel añadirian confort al alojamiento.

C’est la première fois qu’un concierge d’un hôtel refuse de me commander un taxi car je ne voulais pas prendre celui de l hôtel qui était deux fois plus cher que le tarif classique pour aéroport.

Location was amazing, rooms big and exceeded my expectations. We had a room with a view on the canal. Most of the staff were really friendly. All but 1 who was really abrupt and seemed like he didn’t want to answer my questions so he answered very quickly. I couldn’t grasp what he said. So I waited until later when another staff member was on the desk. All other staff went above and beyond to help. Even let us charge our camera as we forgot the charger. Helpful organising a porter on the day we left. They also managed to merge my bookings into 1 as we had to book 2 rooms on each day due to availability.

I wasn’t aware there are steps on the grand canal bridge and booked the hotel due to how close it was to the station. As I had 1 large suitcase and a child it would have been difficult to drag it on the steps. The porters were trying to overcharge me. Tried to charge me double what it was quoted to me in the hotel. Luckily I declined that price and they offered the correct price. Would be good for the stairs to be mentioned when booking for people who need accessibility.

I was upgraded to a very nice. large room on the ground floor courtyard. Great bed, comfy chairs, plenty of electrical outlets, refrigerator, large closet and bathroom with a deep tub and a great shower. Strong Wi-fi. Good breakfast.

No coffee/tea kettle.

Location. Right opposite the station and on the canal. However this does means there’s is lots of noise from outside .

11 am check out - too early for price per night. Not enough ( any) plug sockets in room.

This hotel is across the canal from the main train station. You will either have to cross via boat or going across the bridges. If you have bags please note the bridges are staired with no ramps. However, light luggage is easy to get across and is less than a 10 minute walk around. The first room they put us in was tiny but clean. However, the air conditioner was virtually non-existent. We spoke to reception and they sent maintenance up who changed the setting (the previous occupants must have put it on heating) and said to give it a bit and if need be we can request a fan from reception. We went exploring for several hours and unfortunately the room had not cooled down. We asked for a fan and hoped that the room would cool overnight as the outside temperatures dropped but it remained too warm all night. We spoke to reception again who did say the hotel was fully booked but eventually located another room. The room was larger with a much larger bathroom and the air conditioning worked well enough. The only downside is the fridge in the room was not cool so you couldn't put your own drinks in to cool down. It was also a louder part of the hotel so you could hear more guests moving about.

The air conditioning was not great at this hotel. The hotels in Naples and Rome had us freezing and turning the thermostats up but this one struggled to cool the rooms at all. The breakfast was busy so we had to sit in another part of the hotel to eat which is fine as it was quieter but like others have noted, the scrambled eggs were very watery. We also paid for a meal for the first night we arrived. The food was not good at all. The carbonara was horrible and I only ate a few bites before giving up completely. My husband had the lamb which he said was not fully cooked. Overall, we felt that the prices charged were not reflective of the quality of the dishes.

La ubicación es perfecta, al lado del Plaza Roma y justo en frente del Ferrovia. El desayuno está muy bien, mucha variedad de productos y de buena calidad. Las instalaciones de recepción, hall principal y comedor son muy bonitas y acogedoras.

Lo que menos me gustó fue la habitación, va un poco en consonancia con toda Venecia, tienen tan seguro que les va a llegar el turismo que no se esfuerzan en mejorarlo. Las instalaciones en la habitación son correctas pero todas con un aire rancio que empañan un poco la experiencia de la estancia
