We booked a twin room. Basic but all we needed for the two nights as we were away all day. Had a look round and there was a decent kitchen and laundry, but we didn't use. Situated in town and close to old Oamaru and waterfront.

Very central and easy to walk to attractions.

There is no staff on property. No assigned bunks either. My room had all bottom bunks taken even though I especially requested bottom bunk. Staff is basically incommunicado. Rooms were hard to lock behind. Top bunk had no charging ports nearby hoarded by bottom bunks. Kitchen doesn’t have enough cutlery or cleaning supplies. Over any thing I did not feel safe staying there. I left minutes after checking in forcing me to find a place last minute.

Great location and perfect accommodation for a short stay.

Not much room to put bags under bed.multi plug board on floor full of plugs And a bed light..not easy to negotiate fr bunk to door.not admins problem , problem lies with bunkies who are not safety aware.

I came to see the penguins and steampunk HQ and it was just right around the corner from the Victorian quarter. Super close walk to everything. The bathrooms and rooms were much cleaner than I thought they would be. Very clean in comparison to other hostels I've stayed in. It can feel a bit spooky when you first come in since it's self check in and there were hardly any people around during winter. But the blankets were very warm and there was a nice fire downstairs near an outlet where I could plug in my phone and charge other electronics.

It's in an old building which is very pretty but the plumbing is quite old so just make sure to flush as you go when using the toilet. Some people clogged the toilets while I was there. The shower pressure was great though and very hot and warm.

Easy parking, accessability to all the businesses on or near the CBD. Great kitchen.Good showers. Comfy bed.

The location is good.

The kitchen could be tidied up to reduce the greasy smell, and the rooms would be even better if they could be renovated and the drafty windows fixed.

We had a great stay, it was comfortable and basic, everything was there that was needed :) Thanks very much.

The water in the shower went cold or didn't heat up enough.

Lovely warm fire in ground floor lounge/ dining area.

Central location, close to Whitestone City, parking available.

Found the bed quite uncomfortable here, but on the upside there was plenty of heating while it was chilly which is much appreciated.

Squeaky bedroom door.6 people up and down in snd out .squeak squeak. Room 10!

It’s very central with a nice short walk to the town.

No heater in the main common areas. No one to greet or explain where to go. It felt like a poor house honestly.. very disheveled and unkept. Child play toys lying on the dirty floors with used tissues.. ripped and stained old furniture and weird smells. No hand towel in bathroom and laundry was not where the sign points to it. In a dungeon that smells like mould. Very unpleasant.. I’ve stayed in many cheap hostels for a lot less and had basic amenities be well kept and warm.

The closeness to the city and to my friends who live in Oamaru

I found the pillows too uncomfortable but otherwise all was good.

Hôtel très bien placé, chambre dortoir bien aménagée même si les équipements sont vieillissants. L’endroit est calme, spacieux et bon rapport qualité prix. Cuisine bien équipée et salle de bain propre !

Certains meubles usagés, vétustes mais tout fonctionne très bien !

The location was good, checkin was straightforward Classic backpackers situation, beds were fine.

The cleanliness of the toilets was sub par - I know a guest not flushing the toilet isn't the backpackers responsibility but it was still pretty gross The halls and carpets felt dusty and tired. Not much sound proofing between dorms. It was Perfectly adequate for the low price, but I think in future I'd rather pay a bit more for privacy/not sharing a bathroom.

There's very little security so people without bookings were inside the kitchen when we arrived. This led to an uncomfortable interaction with a man that made us feel unsafe. Would not recommend travelling here as a solo traveller. The staff are also very invisible as it is self check in and self check out which also makes it feel less safe. There were also strange dots on the blankets.

I was not treated the way I thought I would be

I thought the bed was comfortable and I was lucky that I only had one person sharing the 4 bed dorm with me. It would have been very cramped if there were more of us.

I never saw any members of staff and didn’t see many people in general. It was a strange atmosphere. The kitchen and bathrooms were also not the cleanest.

The check-in worked very well. Nice room.

The oven wasnt clean. The basement and common area could be more welcoming.

The location

The Smell in the kitchen is awful, the room doesn't look like the picture, it is very small room, is not a personal there.

Value

6am and there was no toilet paper in one of the two toilets. Also no hand towels to dry your hands.

Great location

Front lounge is quite convivial, two kitchens, comfortable beds. Excellent location, next to coffee shop, close to town and Victorian area. Building is a little tired.

部屋が狭く、フロアはじゅうたんでしたが、たくさんのゴミがあった点、1番上のベッドのカバーは毎回洗われてない様子があった。キッチンがあまりきれいではなかった点。スタッフが常駐していない。＃@@#&

Noisy road

With bunk beds if one person moved, the other one was woken up by that. Unavoidable really.

Excellent location.

There were some items from previous days left behind the door in the shower room! Old used razors and cotton budd. Yuk!

The location was great. Appreciated the free parking.

The place is certainly showing it's age and lack of care. No one checks the bathrooms, which ran out of toilet paper in the evening and wasn't replaced in the morning.

You receive your key in a little stapled envelope and sadly I found two more of these on the floor in our room.. So this means nobody has cleaned in there for at least two earlier guests. The sheets did feel and look clean but the carpet was nasty and my partner had to go wash his feet after walking barefoot on it.
