The breakfast was excellent, the room comfortable and everywhere in the hotel was clean and well maintained. The staff were cheerful and went out of their way to be helpful.

We are elderly and on the top floor with no lift so getting up and down to the room, especially with a case,, was not comfortable. The shower was rather weak and came hot and cold, difficult to keep at a comfortable heat and was in a bath so not easy to get in and out safely.

Having the parking available is a big plus. The hotel is in a quiet area and the interior looks freshly decorated (traditional rather than modern). It is very clean. Fresh flowers in public areas too. The bed was comfy and the room a good size. It's a bit of a hike to the town. Downhill on the way, uphill on the way back, but good for getting your steps in so no complaints. The staff were helpful and friendly.

The WiFi in our rooms was very weak. The connection kept dropping out but we didn't realise it. I've just got home to find that I've got an unexpected bill from my phone provider for data.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was 5* and were able to accommodate my partner who was Gluten-free. The free on-site parking was just across the road from the hotel.

There was nothing negative about our stay.

The service and staff was amazing. Being able to park before check in was also very convinent.

I booked wrong date on same day i booked got charged extra hundred yet it was on same day i booked, and only a couple minits after making the mistake, spoilt the holiday,

From start to end nothing could have been better. Room was absolutely spot on with furniture, carpet and bathroom all like new. Spacious as well. Friendly staff with nothing a problem. Car parking a bonus. The breakfast (with old fashioned but professional table service) was excellent. Always judge with the little things, in this case very yellow eggs cooked to perfection.

Just spent 3 nights in the Saxonville. Booked it the night before en route due to all positive reviews. It certainly didn't dissapoint. We arrived late morning - long before check in.Reception were more than happy take our bags and direct us where to go for a few hours. Our room was lovely albeit not huge but definitely not old fashioned as some reviews have said. Spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel. Housekeeping were in every morning while we had breakfast. We would go back upstairs to find our room immaculate again - thank you. We had dinner one night - food and service excellent as was breakfast every day. It is in some ways a wee step back in time -dining experience - not many places do waitress service and all waiting staff are dressed immaculately in white and black but that's not a bad thing at all. Each and every member of staff in the hotel were absolutely lovely and so helpful. Thank you all.

The room was a good size, the unexpected sea view was lovely, bed was comfy and even at the top of the property it didn't get too warm. Breakfast was good all be it quite basic

The hotel is slightly dated but still very good, the only thing that I really didn't like was the banister at the very top of the stairs by the door to the landing is very low when you step back opening the door it's unnerving

The hotel was very clean and excellent for a 3 star hotel. The breakfast was lovely. The staff were very nice and the room was spacious and well resourced.

Parking was an issue - you have to be early to get parked in the hotel car park. It was a busy weekend d and it was a 10 minute walk to our car. The hotel provided a pass for £4 which was most likely subsidised.

I stayed here with my father as part of our road trip around the North East and Yorkshire. The place has a charm to it. Some reviewers are saying its old fashioned but i rather think that the hotel intends to be like classy hotels of the past. The staff are friendly, attentive and professional. The best part for me was the excellent breakfast with friendly staff operating full waitress service. So nobody needed to get up and get anything just sit and relax. The breakfast area had a certain class to it. yes like going back in time but in a good way. The room was good and comfortable too. The hotel is situated only about 2 minutes walk from the promenade area and a 10 minute or so gentle stroll down the promenade to the town centre. There is also a little private car park opposite the property. Perfect for what we needed i would recommend and stay again :) Lee

The bedroom and communal areas need updating. Wifi not good in bedroom. Towels in bathroom well worn, no small luxury items, hotel overpriced.

Room is spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable and well appointed. Dining room is wonderful. Breakfast is fantastic. Lovely staff, all table service, nothing is too much trouble, service and quality of food is 5*. This is a wonderful property. It is a 5 to 10 minute stroll into the centre of Whitby so is quiet yet a very convenient location. Hotel has a private carpark which is also a big bonus.

Total trip back in time, rooms are 1980’s but don’t that put you off, clean comfy and the TV is almost modern. The service is second to none! I’ve been in 5 star that could learn from this place! Especially the catering staff good old fashioned service.

Lovely clean tidy room and a well rested sleep but the cherry on the top of cake was the breakfast experience….. From the moment you step into the breakfast room, you’re transported back to a time when breakfast was a truly special occasion. It captures the charm and elegance of traditional hotel dining that, sadly, so many places have now lost. The service was impeccable—courteous, professional and genuinely warm. Instead of the now all-too-common self-service buffet, we were treated to classic table service by attentive waitresses, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal. Every detail had been carefully considered. The tables were beautifully laid with crisp linen tablecloths, silver-plated cutlery and elegant serving pots, creating a wonderfully refined atmosphere. Freshly made toast was brought to the table, adding another thoughtful touch that made us feel genuinely looked after. It wasn’t just breakfast; it was an experience. A heartfelt thank you to all of the staff for such a wonderful start to the day. You should be incredibly proud of what you offer. It’s a rare pleasure to find a hotel that still values and delivers this level of traditional hospitality.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Evening meal was very good and proved good value for the three course special. Breakfast was exceptional - so nice to be served no buffet. Room was spacious and comfortable ( twin deluxe) though I found the bed a little firm but its a matter of preference. Nice touches in room - bottled water, tissues, toiletries etc - some places skimp on these things. Parking was available though we did not need it. Location was good on west cliff away from busy parts but handy for a walk to Sandsend along the beach.

Nice clean rooms, friendly helpful staff. Table service was really nice at breakfast as was the food, all good quality ingredients. Unfortunately our visit was cut short because of family issues so we were unable to enjoy the full experience.

It's and old style of hotel so there are no lifts. If you're not fit and able the stairs may not be suitable for you especially if you're on a higher floor. This was not a problem for us but if my elderly mother had been visiting by herself she may have struggled. That said I'm sure staff would help with luggage and the stairs were narrow enough that you could use both handrails.

The room we stayed in was a very good size with plenty of drawers and cupboard space for our clothes. The bathroom was quite spacious too. Rooms were spotless as they were cleaned everyday and towels changed daily too. The breakfast was exceptional with plenty of choice and of course the waitresses were brilliant in serving to our needs.The hotel offered evening meals which we took advantage of and we weren’t disappointed. Quite a few choices on menu which catered for everyone. Car park was a bonus as it was free but on a first come basis, having said that, we had no problem parking there. Well done Saxonville.

It was further out than i realised from the centre, walking down was easy enough but the walk back is all uphill. This hasn’t put us off though about staying again at Saxonville.

There wasn’t a lift. My husband uses oxygen and struggles with cases. The hotel did tell me on arrival that if they had been aware in advance, they would have tried to get us a ground floor room but they only have one.

We were at a weekend event at the Pavilion so location was perfect . The hotel has its own small car park / if you didn’t get a space we were given a disc for on street parking which was a bonus. Staff were all lovely and friendly nothing was a bother and waitress service at breakfast. Everything you would need for a comfortable stay in your room / we were in room 2 and over our 4 night stay it was very quiet.

Nice touch of bathrobes and slippers. Also soaps shampoo in the bathroom. Kettle with tea and coffee in the room. . Fan available daily change of towels didn't eat dinner there so cannot comment on this.

In brochure stated snack food available until 8.30pm however we were told no as they had problems with the computers!! We had to try to find something to eat else where last minute before we went to our event. The receptionist was most unhelpful. We had to ask every day for milk for the room as cleaning staff didn't leave any. Tv in room but not smart tv. Plug sockets by the side of the bed old ones so fan couldn't be plugged in or phone charger.

A 3 star hotel that is showing its age but rooms still kept clean , the dinning room was very nice with fantastic staff , nothing to much trouble . unfortunately our first breakfast wasn't the best my wife had the full English with pouched egg and I had pouched eggs on toast all the eggs were under cooked , raw eggs a no no . Day two breakfast we went for some thing really simple cant go wrong with beans on toast ? both plates of food came to the table just warm , the toast soggy as in a sponge . The evening meal cod was well cooked with veg so enjoyed £25 each with a sweet ? Hotel has a bar if your prepared to pay £5.25 for a small bottle of beer . When we asked for two bottles of water to replace the ones we used for the room , cup of tea in the morning we were told that they only put water in the rooms on the first day so use tap water , wow we have just spent £390.00 for two nights stay . the bar and seating area really needs updating , we are both in our mid 70s but still expect a little more comfort . car parking was available on a first come basis . would we stay here again , sorry no .

Staff very pleasant and helpful, food was good, facilities were okay, beds and rooms were comfortable and clean. Just o e problem for us when one of you has arthritis and the other has a heart condition you don't need to be going up and down 4 flights of stairs and especially with luggage but I do appreciate that a lot of the clients were also elderly some has to take these rooms surely with an elderly client base a lift could and should be considered.
