The location
It was very noisy the room was a long way from the entrance and at the front so all the Friday night action was audible through my window.
Ducktape op trappen en interieur van hotel mag wel een update hebben
Location Room size Breakfast
You go up in the lift but then still have miles to walk to your room including stairs
Excellent breakfast, lots to choose from and very helpful staff.
Climbing all the stairs as I don't like lifts.
Old building, hasn’t been changed too much over the years
Nothing
location and shower were good
Dirty room , very old carpet, very tired furnitures , the hotel advertised with swimming pool but to access you need to pay extra
Nice size room but the windows were filthy! I thought it was foggy out. They really need a window cleaner!!!
After the cleaner had been the milks, tea bags ect were not replaced. Even soap dispenser wasn't refilled. These little things should be noticed.
I like the convenience of the hotel to the city centre. It is a beautiful building, and the central areas are very well kept with stunning staircases and chandeliers.
The room was very poor. Windows were absolutely filthy. Carpet was worn and torn. Curtains were dirty and also torn. Paintworks were very grubby, walls dirty and greasy, gloss painted areas were yellowing with age. Woodwork of built in units were chipped. The tub chair had a large tear up the back, which could have been easily repaired. Muck and fluff on the wooden floor under the desk area. Bathroom - can I recommend HG mould remover spray for all the areas on the tiles and around the sealant on the bath. The toilet is not straight, it turns to the left side facing. One of the basin taps is loose and also moves to the left as you turn it on. I could go on. The bed was clean and comfortable, but sleep didn't come easily as the noise outside was very loud. Taxi rank outside and bottles being emptied overnight. I left just after 8am, I needed to get home and catch up on the sleep that I didn't get overnight.
The location of the hotel is excellent, with the staff at the reception (and breakfast) helpful and friendly. Good breakfast selection albeit very lacking in flavour.
Despite being upgraded, my room had multiple broken or missing fixtures, with a fuse box that was wide open on arrival and then wouldn’t stay shut when pushed up. I searched for a hotel with a pool and gym, yet after booking I was told that I would have to pay for this. The hotel desperately needs an update, with black masking tape in multiple places where the stair runner/carpet for the large staircase having been damaged over the years. There was also visible black marks in the shower.
Perfect position for the City Centre and travelling too/from. The hotel was nice, I would describe it as "tired in places" but the room was good and comfortable.
Can't say that there was anything that I didn't like!
Location, Spa, dedicated smoking area, Breakfast and elevator for heavy luggage.
Overpriced restaurant.
emplacement centre Accueil du personnel
Vetuste des chambres Prix exorbitant dû au marathon de Newcastle
The staff were very helpful and friendly. My wife is short sighted and Emme in the resteraunt got an extra lamp for the table
It’s tired, the room was hot and there is no aircon, the toilet flush was broken and not attended to even though I reported it. The mattress was so flat it felt like sleeping on a board. Very disappointed that I was charged to use the spa facilities because I booked the stay through a third party?
Nice when you walk in.
Rooms! So out dated for the price you pay. Yes it’s history but a little vamp up is needed. The bathroom was spot on. The mattress was awful! Maybe put a mattress topper on or get a new mattresses. Possibly look at air-con. Heat rises being on the top floor was like a sweat box. Yes we had the window open but then having to shut it with all the noise from out the front.
The atompshere and general apperance of the hotel
Nothing
Great location ,beautiful Victorian style grand entrance and chandeliers ,loved the sweeping staircases ,and really lovely staff and food
Parking ,quite stressful when you arrive in the dark ,and pricing unclear , health club dated and small ,jacuzzi was broken ,and don't think it is fair to have to pay too .
Alles klasse.
1st impression - lovely staircase & chandelier
The rooms were claustrophobic had to change my room. The second room was just as bad and myself & the manager could not find the light switch.
Great location right next to the station and metro, perfect for The Great North Run.

Great location for everything
Bit noisy at night
The staff, room and breakfast
The shower as the water kept going off
Perfekt gelegen, super freundliches Personal. Riesige Zimmer. Ein Hotel mit Charme.
Conditions of the property and the quality really poor. A very tired hotel.
Central location ideal for me to get to the GNR start line and next to the train station Staff were friendly especially Rokeyya at the reception and the slim English lady cant remember her name apologies
Extremely loud music from nightclub next door which kept me awake for both nights especially on race day I was kept awake by the loud music until 4am
Friendly staff
Haven't got my deposit back yet
Big spacious family room. Convenient restaurant onsite. Parking right out the front.
The stairs - difficult with a suitcase. Although there was a lift, once on our floor, we had to navigate stairs. Being so close to the train station meant there were some dodgy people around when we arrived.
Conveniently situated next to Newcastle train station, this was a no-frills one-night stay. It did serve my purposes well.
This is an enormous hotel that has seen better days. It was clean and the bed was comfortable, but everything is a bit old, from the fitted carpets to the curtains to the wastewater pump noisily draining the shower. The light in the room was functional but not giving much of a cozy atmosphere. Maybe a higher category of room is better?
The location and breakfast range.
The music at breakfast. ZZ Top at 7.a.m.!
Central location
Noisy at night. Small uncomfortable bed. Bathroom door not shutting properly. Gap under door letting in light. Dusty, shabby decor. Tv had no signal, internet didn’t work.
Nothing
Over-priced, filthy and smelly room. So bad we left a day early and went to another hotel
Close to centre
The fact there’s a club attached to the hotel which wasn’t mentioned and the boom boom music they play shakes the very foundations of the earth until 3AM which kept me awake when I was trying to catch some Zs to get ready to run the Great North Run the next morning
Location and staff
Water flooding coming through our bedroom floor and making the carpet all wet? Toilets blocked, Fridge not working, having to move room, no double glazing and room opposite a bottle / glass recycling area and glasses emptied at 04:00! Could go on
Great old hotel with a fantastic open tiled staircase. Bang central as well.
Some of the rooms could do with a refurb but they are clean and comfortable.
Very close to the station. Room was quiet.
Sadly we stayed in a room on the front of the hotel. We did not get much sleep due to the rowdy people leaving the pubs / waiting for taxi. We had to be up early anyway so we did not have much sleep.
The property was fine other than the noise
Location
All was great
Breakfast. Comfy bed. Parking
Position of sink (had to lean too far over) and the tap didn't reach over the sink when the water flow was low spilling water onto the surrounds.
The room was really good, the lady that checked us in was very friendly and polite
Central hotel. Suited us for one night as we weren't going to be in the room long but would not have wanted this room for longer. Liked having a fridge and good hospitality tray. Powerful shower. Comfortable bed
Room was small. Had to be careful not to walk into the wardrobe when entering the room. Window looked directly onto a brick wall.
We liked the building and features
Pillows were awful maybe invest in some nicer pillows
Nice staff in general
Bar service very poor only pot noodles after 10 poor
Location
Pills from previous guest under bed/on floor

The location
The property could do with a bit of a make over. No clear instructions given that my room was not on the main landing. It was a bit of a maze. No towels in the room. Very poor if you can’t get the basics correct.
The hotel is a beautiful old building all areas I saw were lovely it was also very convenient to get to and from the train station They also keep your bags for you for 1 pound which the proceeds go to the air ambulance Well done to the staff everyone I came in contact with were very nice and helpful
The only thing I didn’t like was the noise from outside until about 2-3 o clock in the morning which the hotel can do nothing about being as it’s the location
Checkin easy, staff friendly and helpful. Had no towels in the room so had to ask for some tonne brought up, which happened within the hour.
No view, room looked straight at an internal wall. Wardrobe placement made it difficult to get in the door! Only the minor niggles you expect with an old building like this.
Very close to station
Was great location, bit dated but ok clean an staff great 👍
Small room for 2 far to small had to get room change was so bad
Large Towels were not already in room. Mugs not washed or changed and had to ask for more milks. When checking out guy asked how was my stay I said ok and he said I’ll take an ok but I feel he should have asked why.it was
Easy access from train station Bar manager as always courteous and helpful with any question.
Queueing time at reception. Not given breakfast card which had to be sorted by Supervisor. Kettle having to be plugged in behind television.
Friendly staff...location...excellent breakfast...

Location Slightly faded charm Great staff
Nothing
The breakfast was £35 for two people. Simply not value for money.
We hadn't booked the breakfast and the waiter wasn't very helpful. We paid directly then. But could have been handled better.
Breakfast was good with a variety of foods to choose from.
The rooms and decor are very tired and could do with upgrading.
Massive value for money. Huge rooms. Great staff.
Parking. App outside didn’t work but eventually got it to work.
Playing music till 3 in the morning
The building is really beautiful
Quite noisy - a fire alarm at 1pm and the glass bins at 4am.
Location is good
It’s very dated. It is in desperate need of a makeover and modernisation. Prices are on the higher side considering how dated the venue is
Position fantastic. Staff good. Lovely bed.
Furnishings dated. Signs of spills on carpet
The location is excellent if you arrive by train. You can leave the hotel straight into the town.
Areas of the hotel are tired and the attention to detail needs looking at. The carpet in my room was old and could do with a good clean. There was also mould in the bathroom. The toilet kept flowing every minute and could do with adjusting to stop this.
Location
Tired and in need of refurbishment. Bedroom was hot. No fresh air. Very poor tv reception in the bedroom - not even worth having a tv as it was so bad.
The location was great
It was extremely noisy, we we placed by a lift, a function going on with teenagers, our room was over the front road so when opening the window it was ridiculous noisy and we didn’t have a fan in the room. The tv didn’t work and the bathroom was unclean. Also the lamp next to the bed didn’t work and the power box popped open every time you turned a switch on.
Zentral gelegen, ruhiges Zimmer, gutes Frühstück
Das Zimmer war insgesamt doch etwas in die Jahre gekommen
Excellent Location. The external and internal structure looks impressive - the tiles on the walls, chandeliers, grand ceiling and staircase. Staff were helpful and friendly at check in and check out. The room was clean. Also a fridge and coffee/tea facility. Bed was really comfortable . The bathroom was a good size and the pressure and temperature of the shower was fantastic.
Our room was at the front of the hotel above a pub/nightclub. The music, the people, the traffic. There is literally a constant boom until 3am on a Friday and Saturday. This is my only complaint about the hotel. I had read after bookingl that the rooms at the front can be noisy - and the reviews weren't wrong. However the hotel was fully booked so there wasn't any point requesting to be moved. On departure I mentioned it and asked if on booking again could a room at the rear be booked. Yes - if available. Despite an otherwise good stay, I probably wouldn't return unless a room at the rear of the hotel is guaranteed. I did not try the pool area or dining facilities so I cannot comment on that.
Good location for the of our visit. Clean room. Pleasant staff
Lot of steps up and down to get to our room. Not suitable for the elderly or wheel chair users. I take it there are rooms on the ground floor with no steps. Myself and my husband are both late 70's. We were allocated a room on the 2nd floor, there was a lift but then st the end of a corridor with numerous stairs. Age should be taken into account.. The bath/ shower needed a shower mat as the bath is high and very slippy.
Position, architecture, historical significance
Tends to be noisy at night but we saw this as quid pro quo for its excellent location.
The room was very small and quite old looking
There was no view from the window and it did not open the room was very small it was not worth the money it cost the parking cost was reasonable there was 1 towel between 2 people that wasn't even a bath towel there was no extras of anything
Not much
Everything plus facilities are extra which isn’t made clear on the booking.
The staff were lovely. Building looked nice from the outside
Everything. Very loud, drunk people shouting and running around the corridors at all hours slamming doors. We paid for superior double rooms and every room had something not working. No fan or air con that worked, the shower didn’t drain and flooded bathroom. tv didn’t work no fridge. Paper thin walls can hear everything, no windows in room. Multiple Stairs to get to rooms which with heavy cases is annoying.
Location good. We booked last minute and our was great
Mattress a bit sqeaky !!
The location was great staff all friendly and helpfull and the breakfast was lovely
Trying to get the suitcase through the revolving door
Room was very good and comfortable.
The shower was awkward to use. It was very difficult to get into and out of for elderly people. On a couple of nights there was very loud music coming from outside of the hotel, sometimes lasting until 3 a.m. which made sleeping very difficult.
Breakfast was good.,good location.
Everything was fine.
Breakfasts were not great but adequate.
Total confusion at booking in for 3 rooms, no toilet paper but all the staff were spot on and very helpful.
The location , the service in the café/ restaurant
Malfunction bath , shower
It was central and close to the railway station
The room was tidy it wasn’t clean and the bathroom was not clean. The carpet was worn. The chair had no padding it was very uncomfortable. The fridge was not cold everything was look warm. The window looked onto a well there was no light. If there was a fire outside the door there was no way out the window didn’t open. We were directly above a function hall and were not told that there would be a wedding on the Tuesday it was very loud and we decided to leave and go home as our heads were very sore. I enquired as to when the function was going to end and was told 9.30pm it may not be late but the music was so loud we couldn’t stay in a room with that noise. So we left.
Close to station and city centre. Great friendly staff, especially our waitress Catherine :) A beautiful building and reception.
The continous noise and vibrations from the night club that they share a basement with. Surrounding bar and pub noise. Got very little sleep. Our room was a standard double, wish we'd upgraded. It was very basic. One teabag, no extras at all.
Location next to station
Took two attempts to get the door lock to work and then only with help from staff re programming lock
Location @ rear of hotel. Enjoyed view on the platforms of the station. Bathroom was good.
It is all a bit too brown, carpet dirty, is it a double?
Everything was lovely, from the staff to the breakfast. Very clean and comfortable room, I was going to say the room was a little dated but that is why I chose this hotel for the old world charm. It was lovely and clean with a little fridge which was a bonus. The location was excellent and i would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Newcastle.
There was nothing to dislike.
Easily accessible & spacious

Reception staff were friendly, welcoming and professional
Room still had a Newcastle United paper bag with a receipt in it from a previous guest. Filthy shower mat No kettle
Location
Top top floor. Im heavily pregnant. Not a care in the world. Wasn't even a lift up to our room as was higher. Now have tp pay for pool. Everything i was looking forward too was ruined. The room was like a budget room in Blackpool. Terrible. Toilet stunk. Bed was tiny and uncomfortable. Wont be staying again
Great location, lovely building, and high level of staffing.
Our room was very hot and the bed was the smallest "double" I have ever seen.
I’ve stayed before and it was fine but this time the bed was tiny, to the point where only one of us could sleep on our backs the other had to sleep on their side (and we are 2 girls and aren’t big people). The room was also BOILING - no fan, no air con and the window only opened a tiny bit (I get that’s health and safety) but we literally couldn’t sleep it was that awful, we contemplated leaving in the middle of the night. I’ve stayed before and it was lovely, so really sad to have a different experience this time. Won’t be coming back
Molt bon lloc.

Beautiful hotel, the architecture and ambience amazing.
No towels in our room. No milk sachets either. Husband popped down to desk, and he was given some tea bags and milk sachets, we waited for over an hour for towels, had nothing to wipe our hands on after using the toilet, so I popped down..
bath in a single room was nice
old, dirty in some places , didnt smell fressh but like an old room. window not able to open just for a few cm.
Perfect location. Excellent room. Very helpful and friendly staff
Staff very helpful. Lovely building.
Rooms dirty. Very few coffee/ tea making facilities. Rubbish put behind radiator in the bathroom. Duvet cover too big for duvet so some of the bed had no warmth.
Amber on reception was extremely welcoming and couldn't of been any more helpful.
