The history, the luxury, robes and slippers, tea and coffee
Location good room comfortable complementy ride in Bentley was a very nice Bonus
Evening meal starters came out cold main course very average bad value at £135
We liked the buffet style but it would have been better if a staff member could have directed us
Our table wasn't ready on arrival and our booking was not correct
I’d asked for sheet and blankets on the bed which they had done. Great location.
The room was near the plant extractor so there was constant noise from outside.
The room was very well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast food choices- wide, varied and delicious. Dinner was excellent
The situation of our room was above the area where deliveries are received and it was a bit noisy early in the morning
A charming historic hotel in a great location right by the Cathedral. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfasts excellent. There is a cosy bar and a light and airy restaurant. The staff were welcoming and helpful.
Great central location with large car park, nice spacious room with AC, helpful friendly staff, delicious and good value breakfast
Nothing
Location was great. Jim made Bentley experience great. Breakfast choice was good.
Bed was far too soft.
The location is perfect for exploring all Norwich has to offer! The history behind the Maids Head is very interesting and the food and the staff were fantastic..
Not much I didn't like.
Comfortable room. Reception staff very efficient eg ordering taxis for us, quickly responding to requests for room. Location excellent, so easy to get to cathedral, castle, river walks and town centre.
Breakfasts could have been better. Disappointed not to have had Greek yogurt, also to find tinned peaches and mandarins rather than fresh ones. Toaster wasn’t working well, all toast came out burnt. No one put it right over our 3 day stay. Cooked food was great however.
Excellent location and very clean. Our suite was quite big, clean with all the amenities.
Slow WiFi. Tried watching Prime in bedroom and was buffering constantly due to slow speeds.
Every thing
Food and drinks slightly expensive
Had a lovely stay at the Maids Head hotel. Room was lovely, with a great ensuite bathroom, and the location was ideal to walk into the city.
TV in the room was not a smart TV. Would have liked the choice of watching Netflix/Apple TV/Amazon Prime etc. For a room where the price was this expensive I would have expected this as a minimum.
Location perfect for walking around town. Close to buses.
Unfortunately we were in room 101 right above the back door entrance, very noisy at night. Price of breakfast was way out of line.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and the Sunday Roast was fantastic
Lovely cleverly renovated old pub right in the heart of Norwich. The Cathedral and old town was right outside. We got an upgrade which was fabulous. The food in the restaurant was great and the bar full of character. I would recommend it to everybody wanting to go to Norwich
Comfortable room and characterful building, friendly staff
My room faced a road full of pubs and the windows couldn't shut (they were really old thin cracked glass and the latches didnt work) so it was really hard to sleep at night due to all the noise from people shouting and yelling on the street.
Good location
Unfortunately there was a wedding taking place at the hotel that we weren’t notified about until our arrival. Throughout the day it was fine, but in the evening the celebrations went on until 00:00 and due to the proximity of our room to the party room we were not able to sleep until the event was over, which meant we were tired and didn’t enjoy our second day as much because of that.
Great location with good parking. Historic building with lots of nooks & crannies Nice sheltered courtyard for drinks Very comfy mattress
Bit noisy from corridor at times but there was a wedding party so perhaps not the norm. The loo roll holder was on the other side of the bathroom too far from the loo to be easily reached while sitting.
The history of the hotel. This is the oldest hotel in England and was charming and eclectic with so much history in every room. It is right next to the cathedral and the centre of the city so perfectly located. Car park right behind the hotel.
The shower managed to wet the whole bathroom floor even when I tried to keep all the water inside the glass screen
The room was lovely and bed bey comfortable and the breakfast was excellent
The WiFi wasn’t the best when trying to watch streaming channels
Near to amenities
Lovely room. Comfy bed.
Breakfast though delicious, was disorganised e.g repeatedly having to ask for cutlery, hot drinks etc
The location, the uniqueness of the hotel, the beautiful room and the delicious evening meal.
Nothing everything was perfect.
The hotel was a good hotel , and staff were amazing and the rosette dining is the best dining experience we have ever had the food was amazing as well as the service, Lily was fabulous.
The hotel was a good hotel but we had a couple of issues, where we moved room twice the reception staff were really good, with one exception, but Sarah was really good, but the having to move twice in a three day stay was a little disappointing for an establishment of this calibre.
Geweldige ontvangst! We konden eerder inchecken en kregen ook nog eens een kamer-upgrade. Prachtige kamer op een prachtige locatie. De gratis Bentley-autorit was fantastisch.
Location and quaintness
No aircon. UK is not built for hot weather
The room was spacious and well appointed. The location in centre Norwich suited our needs.
charge for the car park!
There is a comfy, spacious feel about the place plus the location, with its own car park
It is aged, and not up to usual access standards - especially the lack of a lift. We had no hot water on the first day (which was charged at a concessionary half price). The second day I had to go to down to breakfast unshaven because I could not run a basin of hot water, which took ages to get up the temperature, because the plug was stuck closed. The staff are generally pleasant but lack training. Little things like being offered “sorvinyon’ wine (despite being given the correct pronunciation) brings the class of the place down. The breakfast aimed to offer a big choice but fell down on detail - cheap catering orange juice, filthy sweet apple juice, jams etc offered in plunger style containers. We had dinner once, the chef clearly likes to offer interesting dishes but the offering was not quite up to it. The house red wine was disgusting.
The location was excellent, the staff welcoming and the food very good.
Nothing I can think of
Everything
Nothing
Staff always polite and helpful. Breakfast choices good. Room comfortable and well appointed.
Hot water was unavailable on first day, but plumbers were called in asap, and service restored the following day. Alternative facilities were offered and compensation provided.
Great location - next to the Cathedral and less than 5 mins to all other attractions - castle, shopping etc. The staff were so friendly and super helpful. We will definitely go back. So glad the hotel had a car park as original plan was to go by train, which was cancelled
The food generally was excellent. The location very convenient for my visit
No hot water on final day
Perfect location for the Cathedral, which was the basis for our visit. Generally helpful and friendly staff. Excellent dinner in the restaurant. Convenient parking.
The room was tired and not as clean as one would have liked. The mattress was heavily stained, and was covered with only a very thin mattress protector (though it could hardly be called that), and then a flat sheet rather than a fitted sheet, which kept coming off at the corner to expose the stain. The mattress was far too soft and really rather uncomfortable. There was also constant door banging at night, as the doors seemed not to have soft closers. On our last afternoon, the hotel's hot water supply failed and this persisted through to the next day, so we had nearly 24 hours without hot water.
Location and staff
Small hot grimy room, smelt of smoke… airless and no ventilation… very hot and just a small rotary fan which just moved hot air around … shower was grubby and couldn’t open window
Location excellent, so central. Staff all polite, helpful and courteous. Breakfast very nice except coffee from machine poor. Nice bedroom, lovely toiletries, bed linen and towels. Very well appointed.
Coffee at breakfast.
Lovely room, breakfast comprehensive & lots of it!
Fantastic location, clean, spacious and comfy room.
Shower seemed to leak.
Good selection for breakfast (including fresh honeycomb!)
Being removed from the bar at 11pm.
Perfect location, tastefully decorated room. Parking on site is a great advantage.
Nice clean hotel with friendly professional staff n a great location
A lovely quaint hotel in an excellent location, with spacious and clean rooms. Staff were professional and polite.
Despite the staff being professional and polite, we did not feel especially welcomed by them. However, they did upgrade our room on the 2nd night due to us having a broken mattress on the first night. Still, no apology was actually offered; nor was an apology offered by the bar staff after serving me a beer that had gone off - I wasn’t even offered a replacement or a refund.
location was good and breakfast was good.
The room had an awful smell. we paid £40 for early check in and the smell was over whelming like dirty drains. we were in a rush to get to the wedding so couldn’t change rooms. we were in a got back late evening the smell was just as bad. smelt like it was comimg from the wardrobe. Should have complained but didn’t have time.
We received an upgrade on arrival which was such a lovely experience. The room was amazing, very clean and well looked after. Turn down service was speedy and the staff were all so friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again
Two things; firstly is the light near the wardrobes in the bedroom. We stayed in the Paston suite, the light is automatic and turns off pretty quickly if there’s no movement. I had my straighteners there because of the mirrors so trying to wave constantly to get the light was a work out 😂 Secondly was breakfast, the organisation at breakfast was a little poor (no cutlery at the table and the milk in the coffee machine had run out but wasn’t topped up) and the temperature of the food was on the colder side.
The reception staff very helpful
The waiting staff both in the restaurant and bar where service was very slow Incorrect order arriving on two occasions. On a Saturday evening the hotel bar closed at 10pm
Comfortable large bed helpful reception staff Nice restaurant Good position in centre of old town
There were many stairs to reach this room although I asked for a room without stairs The worst part was that the light in the bathroom did not work, it was on a sensor and it did not go on, so I had to take a shower in the dark, very dangerous I asked for it to be repaired, but they could not do so I was NOT pleased about this The furniture in the room needed to be updated and also the carpet The room safe was on the floor in the wardrobe, impossible to use also the fridge in the room was on the floor very difficult to get to
Very average, a number of items only warm and not the easiest cut
There was only one fish item on the dinner menu and that wasn’t available !
This was our second visit to The Maids Head Hotel, unfortunately not acknowledged on arrival. which would have been a nice touch. However, the gentleman who checked us in was friendly and professional. The hotel is lovely with many comfortable areas to sit and relax. We were provided with 2 bottles of water in the room, one still and one sparkling - we only wanted still water and spoke to housekeeping who very quickly provided us with 2 still bottles of water. This was remembered when the room was serviced the second day of our stay. We have found recently that housekeeping often lets hotels down, but most certainly not in this case. We had a drink in the comfortable bar on one night. The barman was extremely helpful and very friendly. There was a large selection of gins which he kindly went through explaining all the various flavours available. When we checked out the receptionist was very friendly and asked us if we had had a good stay and we assured her that we had enjoyed our visit.
The breakfast provided had an excellent choice, but unfortunately the service wasn't quite up to the same level, although the staff at breakfast were friendly. On the second morning, we had to call someone to order our coffee. When it arrived, the cafetiere had already been plunged and spilt onto the table. It was replaced after we called another waitress. These are minor details, but not the service expected from a 4 star hotel.
The location is perfect and having a safe place to leave the car is a real bonus. Lovely friendly staff.
Nothing
Location friendly helpful staff comfortable good breakfast choices
As limited movement on shower screen have to get in bath to reach controls and difficult to access to bath only control without having to go pass shower controls and getting sprayed !!
A lovely stay once again. Friendly staff who are always very happy to help and my breakfast in bed was delicious.
Good sized room. Helpful reception. Very convenient location
Residents having to move out of the bar at 23.00 where they were comfortable & being made to sit in a soulless meeting area. This was on top of residents not being able to buy drinks from the bar after 23.00. Our room in the annex into the car park was immediately above the delivery bay where refrigerated lorries parked in the morning with their noisy refrigeration units being left running -- v noisy
Location excellent. Very clean plenty of seating
Steep steps from lift to our room
Very friendly staff. Great room with view of the cathedral
A few steps to the lift
Breakfast and choice are very good Carpark is convenient The building is old fashioned but nice The huge bed and roll-top bath - brilliant
Our room - Shardlake - was very good except: the toilet flush failed and it was evident that it had happened before. The motion sensor lights in the bathroom were an irritation..the main lights above the mirrors came on/off/on/off all night long. Only 2 coffee pods : 1 regular, 1 decaff is very mean.
The great mix of old and new - what a characterful hotel
Great location close to cathedral and city centre.
Generally the hotel was disappointingly shabby. The room felt and smelled of damp (there was a de-humidifier in the room but it was too noisy to leave running). The WiFi signal was too weak to be usable in the room. Front desk staff were not unfriendly but looked bored and mildly annoyed to be interrupted.
The staff were great. We really enjoyed the Bentley drive around town with our driver, Jim. He was fantastic. The location of the hotel was perfect for an easy walk from the train station and everywhere else I wanted to go in Norwich. There were also bus stops nearby, so it was an easy bus ride to and from Earlham Park for a music festival. The room was comfy and clean.
The bathroom got a little hot as there is a heated towel rack and turns on every time you turn the light in the bathroom on, but wasn't too bad. Our window was next to the parking lot and there were loud noises that almost sounded like construction around 7am one day and then a delivery truck idling directly in front of our window for quite awhile a little after that, but not much the hotel can do about that since they need to get deliveries from somewhere.
We got a room upgrade. The room was very spacious and atmospheric . The staff was very attentive. The hotel location next to the cathedral.
The carpets everywhere and the bathtub in the room. I don't get the trend of putting a bathtub in the middle of the room.
Good location. Comfortable bed. The room decor was interesting, with a nod to the cathedral architecture. Pleasant reception staff
Room was small. No separate shower. Inadequate window covering for nighttime. Ironing board took up all the long hanging space in the wardrobe.
Location and breakfast
Bed rather small and room tucked away high up.
the location is central
the quality of breakfast was very poor - say, in the mid August in Norfolk not a single fresh fruit, vegetable, or cheese was offered the choice in the bar was also poor - mostly local rums and gins my room was facing the parking - and felt noisy the entire experience is a merely 3 star hotel max
The staff made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We were fortunate enough to be taken around the city by Jim in the Bentley which was such a wonderful experience. Its so nice to see people going that extra mile to make our stay so enjoyable. We definitely recommend and will hopefully return soon.
Location and building
Convenient for the cathedral.
The steps in the bedroom down into the bathroom are steep & quite dangerous in the dark.
Excellent breakfast.
Bath in bedroom! Would have been better with desk or wardrobe. Electricity failed twice.
Excellente localisation pour visiter la ville, très bon petit-déjeuner et parking sur place.
The hotel was beautiful and unique
Just a very old fashioned very comfortable hotel the kind of place that we like
The mirror in bathroom It was full of black dots Awful & totally impracticable
It was right at the heart of Norwich and very near the cathedral. The room was small but comfortable and I was sole occupier so it was perfectly fine.
Nothing!
Ancient age & proximity to cathedral Perfect location
Pricey
Great location, pleasant night’s sleep and good breakfast.
Room was very dark in the daytime. Decor and furnishings looked a bit tired. The carpet in my room had several stains and even though I managed a good sleep, the mattress was way too soft. Given the star rating of the hotel, maybe some shortbread or complimentary bottle of water could’ve been part of the welcome tray?
Perfect location ideal for trip
Clean, friendly staff, very comfortable
Had everything you need
Nothing
Did not sample the food. The whole hotel ambience, including the bar, and rest areas along various corridors. Easy access to the carpark Oldie world feel Central courtyard, particularly the decor. A
A room with a better view would have been an improvement. A fairly noisy ac below our bathroom window
The bedroom was well appointed and the hotel very well located in the centre of Norwich near the cathedral. Parking was easy in the hotel car park.
Access to the bedroom was difficult. The lift was fine but we then had to negotiate a lot of stairs with cases which was not easy at our age. No doubt we could have asked for staff help.
This hotel is perfectly situated next to the cathedral in Norwich city centre. it purports to be the oldest hotel in UK! I had a deluxe double room which was spacious and well equipped. I especially thought the lighting was good (often not the case in hotels). Breakfast was good and the restaurant dinner was of good quality
The standard and single rooms are not great! Go for the higher room category and you will not be disappointed.
location is perfect, easy walk in distance to city centre, close to cathedral, many excellent pubs and restaurants near by. room was clean and well presented and very quiet, also had excellent air conditioning.
everything was fine.perfect for a Norwich stay
Conveneint position. Cleanliness very good. Air conditioning appreciated but not easy to work out operation technique,
Mix up at reception over whether I had already paid or not (I had). Room (107) door did not fit properly so it was impossible to shut without slamming. As it is a fire door it should fully close automatically, but it stayed not quite closed unless pushed or pulled quite hard.
Location very clean and comfortable rooms. Brilliant staff everyone we came in contact with were excellent.
Breakfast was poor for a hotel of this grade. Could not get fried eggs due to how they were served. No porridge for 2 days, my wife bought her own to be cooked on the 2nd day
Superb location. Excellent staff
Narrow corridors, too many steps, lack of lifts
Excellent location in Norwich, good size carpark, very pleasant and helpful staff, rooms and all communal areas all kept very clean and a great choice of food at breakfast.
Nothing to dislike
Great location - next to the Cathedral. Staff extremely helpful with any problems we encountered. The restaurant was excellent. Rooms in modern part of building very comfortable.
The rooms in the old part of building were stuffy even with fans and air humidifiers. Lacked basics such as towel rail and extractor fan in bathroom.
This hotel is superb, run in a totally professional manner by good, cheerful and friendly staff. I was singing in Norwich Cathedral during my stay so proximity to the Cathedral was great. Food impressive, especially the range of breakfast options. It was hot, the air con was a godsend!
I have mobility issues and walk with a stick. There is a good lift available but stairs when moving around the hotel common areas. It’s a historic building and little to be done to alter the interior but this is worth bearing in mind if stairs are an issue.
A very historic hotel near the cathedral - a sight in itself, given the history of the property. Comfortable rooms, we were on the first floor with a window to the car park - not a view, but we were here for the city anyways. Breakfast buffet has quite a lot of options, and best of all, they have made to order dishes like Eggs Benedict.
Well, we do have to mention two things, that were pretty annoying: the towel heater in the bathroom is obviously tied to warm water, and cannot be turned off according to reception which we called about that issue - the bathroom is pretty hot and after a shower you feel like in the Amazon jungle. Second, the bathroom door has a pretty forceful door closer and it is impossible to keep the door open. Why on Earth does a hotel install such a thing? To roast you slowly in the bathroom? We had to invent something to tie the door to the heater to breathe in there... In future we will have a wedge in our luggage for such cases...
El estilo y la sitiacion
No dispones de A/A y el calor dentro de la habitación 30° era insoportable, el wifi dependiendo de la hab era nulo
Luxury hotel and attentive staff, right in the heart of Norwich
Nothing
location bentley tour was a great suprise and we throughly enjoyed it . upgraded for our anniversary again another lovely surprise and very much appreciated
the noise of the air conditioning units then once we switched them off the noise from the pub over the road and the traffic was constant .
The location was perfect, staff friendly and helpful, bed comfortable. Parking till 3pm after departure was really useful.
I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel with the right lighting and mirror in just the right place to do your make-up. It was also a bit quiet.
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Staff were friendly and the room was perfect for us for one night.
Love the location, friendly staff, lovely property.
The location is just fabulous, in the heart of the major sights . The room was spacious and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely a place to stay again
Antiquity, spacious, good facilities
Meals were expensive and not flexible in tgat we had to have two courses to have the meal we wanted.
Location. Breakfast. Staff
No AC. Bath in bedroom (why?). Opening windows difficult.
It is the best hotel in Norwich The staff are lovely and very helpful
There isn’t anything
Convenient and comfortable
Bathroom needs proper clean and re grouting black in shower. Also bar soap is not hygienic
The staff are always so welcoming. Comfy bed. Great breakfast. Excellent location for exploring the city
