What a lovely hotel and the food was amazing
Not much really. Hotel services were quite ordinary compared to other competitors but I suppose acceptable.
THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT. Despite debiting the correct amount of £380.05 for my stay a further sum £518.92 was erroneously and illegally debited from my bank account for services not provided or requested. I have emailed the hotel in Southampton requesting the refund of my money and have not received a reply, not even an acknowledgment of my communication. Not a professional way to run a company!! I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU
Air conditioning was amazing. So cold, and had to turn it off. Was a quiet hotel and nice ambiance to the room but that’s as far as it went.
Mucky - cobwebs, dust all over. Uncomfortable bed - flat pillows and springs felt like they were going to come through the bed Unbranded coffee. No fridge No bottled water No cookies on arrival compared to other doubletree
Noise from air conditioning
Good very convenient. Accessible. Comfortable. Restaurant staff very helpful and pleasant.
Paying for parking as a guest. This should be included.
It was clean and spacious for the UK standards:)
All good
Room was not cleaned during our stay; i.e. towels not changed, bins not emptied, tea, coffee etc not replenished.
It was poorly ran no communication. Would not recommend to anyone. Don’t stay here
Spacious
Problems with hot water supply
The staff were very friendly special mention to Celia the reception lady very professional in her work.and also the breakfast girl she was very pleasant and couldn’t do enough to accommodate you nice friendly people
Great room and public areas; staff all friendly and helpful. Excellent food too.
Nothing
It was really nice with fabulous night attendant
The tv wasn’t working properly
Very friendly staff ,my son had his birthday during our stay, the staff gave a fabulous cooperation including the receptionist Aly. Thank you
Everything
Advertised as a 2 x double room but one double and sofa bed was unacceptable.
Close to the Hospital Provided another bed in the room
Some of the fittings in the bathroom were worn and wobbly
Very clean and brilliant staff - super polite guys 👌🏻 Celia on the front desk is so lovely - absolute legend and a massive asset to the hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for this lady.
Nothing not to like. Location is a bit far out but if you don’t mind a short 10/15 minute trip into city centre, it’s a good location.
Right location
Given wrong room I booked, beds uncomfortably, large noisy unit outside our room
Recently refurbished rooms were nice Buffet breakfast was hot !
No fridge in the bedroom
Breakfast was great. Plenty of it and constantly topped up freshly cooked good quality. Good coffee. Good sized room plenty of space and comfortable bed. And peaceful. Friendly helpful staff. Clean common areas. Easy reach of city centre by car bus and Evehicles. There is no pedestrian footpath out of the property which is troublesome.
There was an issue with the bathroom. In the first instance we noted the vent for the extractor over the sink was full a lot of dust and dirt and we weren't sure the extractor was working. The seal around the base of the toilet had been poorly applied. The decorative woodwork outside the window was rotten and falling apart. On the second day separately had showers and the bath did not drain away either time. After we had both had a shower the bath was three quarters full of tepid water that hadn't completely drained away by the time we left an hour later. Most worryingly there were clumps of dark hair floating around in the water. We are both fair/grey. We reported the vent issue the first day and nothing was done. We reported the bath the next day. This was addressed whilst we were out. As was the vent which we reported again. We were offered a different room but as we were checking out next day couldn't see the point of packing up to unpack and repack. We didn't use the shower again. And I can never understand why we have to pay extra for parking in the hotel car park. I understand registering the number to prevent misuse but we had already paid almost £200 per night for bed and breakfast!!
Helpful bar and restaurant staff
Incredibly uncomfortable bed, when mentioned at reception, the receptionist couldn't care less. Intermittent pressure in the shower ranging from dripping to acceptable, once again, reception couldn't care less.
Over priced
All of it
Loved the location, really excellent. Loved the staff, they were exceptional. We brought our dog with us and she was treated like royalty! The breakfast was 10 out of 10. Absolutely delicious.
Our room wasn't serviced after our first night, despite us hanging the sign on the door. Its such a first world problem, but I suppose when you pay that money per night, these are things you look forward to whilst staying at a hotel.
For what you pay, it’s a very good stay overall and I’ve generally always had a positive experience
The staff were always friendly and helpful.
Lack of toiletries in the bathroom (I would expect at least the basics for the price we paid). The water temperature in the bath was either too hot or too cold.
Nothing
What did i like
Comfortable and spacious room.
No upright fixed grab handles in shower.
Facilities outside the room were lovely.
Smoking area right outside the front door, our rooms shower was broken.
Water pressure was very poor, dripping out of shower head
Room was as expected. Breakfast was good and filled us up ready for our cruise
nothing to report.
Electric car charger facility
Lack of staff at checkin and at the bar. Tired old bedding stained pillowcase Very Poor service at checkin, lengthy Q’s and either no-one at desk or not enough. Being moved to one side, multiple guests being handled at same time with no-one getting good service Kettle not working in room Uncomfortable furniture No water in room
Friendliness and facilities
Bar prices very high
Excellent location just by the end of the M3, right next to bus stops enabling good access to Southampton and its university. Good rooms, good food, helpful staff, good value for money.
No negatives.
Location, clean throughout, spacious,
Parking should be free for guests, rooms need a lot more lighting, price is fairly high for a standard room, water for night shower was cold, no response despite reporting to reception but was fine again in morning.
From we booked this disabled friendly room some months ago until our arrival today things could not have gone more smoothly. It is a short taxi drive from the airport. It is also a short taxi drive to the Port to pick up the Queen Anne ship. The Gentleman at Reception in the Hotel was very good and helpful. We asked for extra pillows and water everything was delivered to the room by pleasant lovely staff. Dinner in the restaurant was a treat. From the moment I asked to book a table the staff were amazing. Virojos was our Server. He recommended the Chef’s Fish Pie. It was delicious. My Husband had beautiful fish and chips all served very quickly. We had great craic with Virojos re our Cruise starting tomorrow. Virojos had been employed on many of the cruise ships we sailed on in the past. We reminisced about the fabulous journeys we had all been on around it world. What a pleasant young man. The disabled faculties in the room we are in, are excellent. It can be very difficult to get suitable well planned disabled facilities. Particularly a disabled shower with no steps into it or, worse still a shower in the middle of a bath!!! They are death traps. Hilton Hotels are excellent in providing a small number of disabled friendly rooms in most of their hotels. . We hope to return to this room following our cruise next Sunday. Thank-you to everyone for our welcome and all your help. I am sure breakfast will be as good in the morning. We will return.
Beautiful outside
Staff didn’t know what they were doing except 1 person a desk No one knew how to handle the fact they stay was paid to booking.com They charged my credit card after I had already paid booking .com The resterant had no idea how to handle the fact we had the dinner and breakfast included in our room package and charged my credit card for the meals. Had to keep going back to desk to fix the issues Thank you to Holly who FINALLY fixed the problems
I stayed in a room next to the lift and was very loud I couldn’t sleep
Clean and tidy. Food good
Was in a room next to outside fans which were particularly noisy
Check in was an absolute joke, 1st thing said to me after I gave my name was "your card has been declined, do you have another" when I explained that it was a corporate booking, there was no apology just a piece of paper handed over and told to sign. When he gave me the key, I had to ask where my room was and how to get there because he couldn't be bothered telling me, also couldn't be bothered telling me the times of evening meal and breakfast as I had to ask for those also, he didn't tell me I had to go back to reception to be able to use the fitness suite either, only found out when I tried to get in there. Room was OK, shower on the other hand was pathetic! Virtually zero water pressure, not what you would expect from Hilton. Evening meal was OK nothing special but very expensive, I ate out the next evening. Just before check out a note was slipped under my door asking to speak to reception before leaving, on arrival at the desk I was greeted by the receptionist saying " ah so you are my problem child" very professional Hilton!!! All I can say it was lucky I had to get into work, otherwise we would still be waiting for his manager to turn up and start handing out apologies. Again apparently an issue with the booking, explained again it was a corporate booking!! All in all an OK hotel but the reception staff need to learn how to speak to guests correctly and with respect. I can say with 100% certainty I will not use this hotel again and will ensure that no one from my company does either.
Everything
Staff were excellent, room was clean and comfortable. Room was a very good size and well furnished.
Shower pressure was incredibly low. It was difficult to feel like I had rinsed all the soap off. And intermittently became even lower. If this was better, it would have been a 10/10 stay.
Waited 20 minutes at reception which a older couple checked in for their cruise and parking package, during this time a few members staff went to another desk at reception and didn't even look up before walking away. When it was our turn we there was no "sorry to keep you waiting" just a curt "how can I help" checked in were given 3 bottles of luke warm water, I asked about cookies and was told "head office doesn't do them anymore" (which is not true) Our room was right next to the lifts and the doors leading to the corridors (202) it was ok, but dated and grubby - the main issue was the camp bed for the 3 person (child) looked like it would collapse at any moment. Hairdryer didn't work (only found this out at 1030pm) Bar staff were nice, prices high - 2 x J20 and 1 x half lager £13.25 food menu wasn't great. Chilworth Arms 1 mile down the road (gastrointestinal) was incredible. Adult and child menu was fantastic. One of the best roast dinners I've ever had. Gorgeous pub and gardens - highly recommend. Breakfast was great, breakfast staff were wonderful. Honestly all of them so helpful. I wouldn't return to this hotel it was tired, and not anywhere near the level of other doubletrees we have stayed in. That being said it was an easy 19 min drive to Paultons Park.
Location
Wasn't clean, then I asked to clean the room which was 9am when I left with my 2 children and when I came back room was the same and a completely mess what my kids left but then they sent someone to sort the room out at 12 midd night
We just visited this hotel for a short overnight stay, we have to praise all of the staff very highly as they were just so friendly and kind! We have a 3 year old son and without asking we were given a printed booklet of pages for him to colour in with crayons while we were sat in the kids corner where there were little toys also provided to play with. He was so happy - it was a lovely gesture and so nice for us to feel welcomed with a young child. The room was very clean and spacious. Very comfy pillows and beds. It was a particularly busy Saturday night that we stayed but it had a nice atmosphere in the lounge/bar area. We didn’t hear any noise overnight despite it being busy, which we commented on in the morning - it was just a lovely night sleep for us all. The breakfast was really lovely - had everything we wanted/needed. The staff were working so hard to keep it all stocked up and clear plates efficiently - all with smiles on their faces too. We just had a really nice trip and want the staff to get recognition!
Clare was really helpful, thank you.
Off the M27 with nothing of note around it, I was surprised I still had to pay £7.50 to park. The hotel is tired, dark and in need of a refresh. The check in was underwhelming, hotel phones not working and if you tried to message on the Hilton app the response was very slow or not at all. The staff were friendly, Luke in the bar in particular and asset to the hotel. The rooms are ok. It’s not particularly good value for money. The bar is very expensive for an out of town Hilton. The food was ok. Would I stay again, unlikely unless I had to.
The stay was excellent, everything you could want from a base when visiting the park with your family. Lovely rooms, comfortable beds, and a great bar and dining area. What truly made our visit stand out was the exceptional service from Claire. You couldn’t find anyone more cheerful or genuinely friendly. She made time for us throughout our stay, nothing was ever too much trouble, and she balanced looking after guests with her work. She made everyone feel welcome. Claire was outstanding.
I was on an overnight business trip and needed accommodation close to my meeting locations. The DoubleTree was perfectly situated and met all my requirements. The rates were reasonable, and the room as expected for a Holton hotel, spacious, clean, and well-equipped with all the amenities I needed. Overall, I could not fault the hotel. What really stood out, however, was the quality of the customer service, particularly from two members of staff. Daniel, the barman, was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and full of energy. He provided outstanding customer service and helped create a very positive atmosphere despite working a long shift. I would also like to mention Chavi, the new Operations Manager. Despite only being in the role for two days and it was his birthday :) , he was incredibly helpful, took the time to explain various processes to me, demonstrated a clear depth of knowledge in the sector and professionalism. He will be a real asset to the Hotel!
We enjoyed our stay here as a family of three. They set up a seperate bed for my son, free of charge which was comfortable. It was around a 12 minute drive from the city centre. The restaurant was really nice, we enjoyed the buffet breakfast and Claire showed us round the buffet and let us choose where we wanted to sit. She was very accommodating, thank you so much Claire! Good atmosphere. Good value for money. The hotel was clean. Noise levels were good, I was able to fall asleep instantly. Overall, a great, comfortable stay. Thanks to the whole team.
We had an amazing experience at the Hilton for the wedding on Friday. The venue was spotless, the bar was well organised, and the service was fantastic all evening. A special thank you to Daniel, Viro, Sunny, Edwin and Luke behind the bar, they were all friendly, efficient and made sure everyone was looked after. Daniel especially went above and beyond with his great sense of humour and energy. We even ended up having a little dance together by the bar, which made the evening even more memorable! Thank you all for helping make such a brilliant night. You were all a credit to the Hilton!
The DoubleTree Southampton is a gem of a hotel. Located in a quiet wooded area about 15 minutes from downtown, it is accessible by Uber or taxi. I arrived before the published check-in time due to an early morning international flight, and I was greeted by Celia, with a huge smile. She had me meet with the manager who was able to get me checked in early so I could rest. Knowing nothing about the area (I was there to go on a cruise), Celia provided me with tips and suggestions from tourist sites to places to eat. I should note that I ate in the hotel restaurant mostly and that the food and bar service was quite good. A good tip that she gave me was that if you are going out on a cruise; schedule a taxi the previous night so that you have a confirmed pick up. It is difficult to get an Uber on cruise switch over days. I should mention that given the summer heat this year in the UK; it was great to have a hotel with air conditioning. This will be my go-to hotel for future Southampton cruises.
Really great service from reception staff and particularly in the restaurant. Lovely lady Claire helped with finding food fitting my allergies.
Stayed here for an overnight stay for paultons park. Lovely hotel and great friendly staff. Food was delicious also. Special mention to Daniel Swain . Great assistance and service
Barman Daniel is exceptional
Was there last night and the room was great, we had breakfast included and breakfast was good but there is a problem. The personnel at front desk were professional. The restaurant staff seemed very nice as well. I left with a positive impression but sadly that changed. My husband checked out automatically and once we left the hotel he noticed someone charged £32 to our room from the bar. He called the hotel multiple times, no answer. Then he called central reservations to see if they could help and the lady there could not get through to the hotel either! She told us to keep trying. We are on a cruise ship now and we have learnt the £32 lesson to CHECK YOUR BILL when checking out because otherwise someone could be charging to your room. Absolutely terrible that they don’t check the signatures against the room occupants.
Dan from the bar had excellent customer service, very attentive and helpful.
It was clean and suitably located for what we wanted to do.
The front of house staff were poor in their interaction with guests.
The staff are excellent- friendly and really helpful.
Food could be improved at dinner but is still decent
A pre cruise stay ruined by being allocated a damp room. When I complained at reception I was treated as an inconvenience. Ben English the duty manager was condescending to the point that I highlighted to him he was responsible for allowing a room which was not habitable to be allocated to a guest which was a health hazard I never raised my voice he was smug and clearly didn’t take my comments seriously therefore when his failings were highlighted in a calm manner the only response he had was don’t raise your voice. I never raised my voice that was maybe the only response he could remember from a text book when a customer raised failings and he had to try and deflect from himself on to someone else.
Used this hotel several times before handy for the University Hospital & shopping centre & cruise terminals but not in the city centre.
Hilton has always felt like it’s good at hospitality but not this time. No warm cookie on arrival. Blocked toilet in room. Not enough towels for guests, no hand towel. The tv was patchy and the reception staff put it down to local issues as their screens were having problems too. The pillows are too soft. The hairdryer only operates when the button is pressed continuously which is difficult when you have arthritis or a similar condition. The shower head wouldn’t turn. Water from the wet room didn’t drain and encroached on the toilet area. The shower/body lotion dispensers are too similar if you can’t read the labels without your glass on. I could add more. The restaurant had a limited menu. Paid parking; The car parking wasn’t added to my stay and even though I’d input my details; if I hadn’t checked that I’d laid I would’ve been fined.
Parking , clean
Everything was perfect
Location , parking , bar area
It was all fine ! Xx
Location was good, short uber drive into the city, Paultons park and close to airport
Our room was filthy. Cobwebs, spider exoskeleton in the corners of the rooms. An area around the sofa bed was absolutely disgusting. It was under the sofa bed but when pulled out this area could be easily seen - tissues, thick dust, crumbs etc all visible. We brought this to the attention of the staff at the desk and asked for it to be cleaned the next day when the room was being cleaned. The staff member was quite nonchalant about it but said he would make a note. Safe to say It was not cleaned. Thankfully we were checking out the next day. During our stay some of the staff were quite abrupt and unhelpful with simple questions.
Staff Location
Nothing
Everything! Big room and bathroom, nice bar and restaurant. And a short taxi ride to the airport. Best part was the incredible breakfast buffet. We arrived way too early to check in to our room, but they kindly took our luggage and helped us with our plans for the day. Super kind!
Staff excellent would do anything to help beautiful grounds and immaculately clean
Beautiful place
Staff members were great Room was great Food good
Nothing
Nicely decorated
Shower and shower floor not good
What the hell has gone wrong???? This hotel has major problems. We are Hilton lovers as usually a good standard. This place is a major let down to the brand. The one bar man who was dealing with cruise stayers, wedding, etc had not a clue where any drinks were and I don't think he cared or noticed that he couldn't cope. The food is shocking. Really shocking at a huge price. Not sure how a chef can screw up garlic butter or a frozen pizza, Pizza being £16.00. I think this is why the pub down the road is rammed with people. (Chilton Arms). We have gone to bed with no dinner as what was delivered is inedible having been on the road since 05.30. Still hungry but too late. Been told we won't be charged for food but where does that leave you at 10 pm?
Close to Southampton
Having to pay the same as 2 people pity no single rooms available
Lovely room. Restaurant staff Claire was great. Very attentive, friendly and made us feel welcome the minute we arrived. Would not hesitate to return.
First impressions of the room offered by this property were good, but the more time you spend in the room the more you notice that maintenance and cleanliness have been neglected. There was a mould on the shower head and around the basin, with an unknown sticky substance left on the desk in the bedroom. Also, there was a large insect on the bedroom wall. Service provided by staff was friendly and streamlined, but there are obvious gaps in housekeeping and maintenance.
Terrible stay. Aircon on the 5th floor was non existent. Slept in a sauna.
Terrible stay. Aircon on the 5th floor was non existent. Slept in a sauna.
The room was a decent size and the bathroom was good. It was clean.
The window was small and the room felt a bit dingy. The evening meal in the restaurant was expensive and disappointing. I ordered a vegan katsu curry, and was served one thin slice of breaded aubergine with rice. This left me hungry and seemed exceptionally mean for the price of £20. The chicken version was a decent portion. Yet again vegetarian options are an afterthought. I would have expected more breaded vegetables. Service was very slow- it took over half an hour between ordering and delivery of our food.
Location
Too hot
Air conditioned room at perfect temperature. Beds super comfy, bathroom spacious and well stocked. Very last minute booking for me and husband and our 17 year old daughter as place we originally booked was so appalling we left after 10 minutes.
Seemed strange to pay for parking when it was an out of town location.
Easy location clean and comfortable with a good breakfast choice
Nothing
Ruhiges Zimmer mit Klimaanlage und einem sehr guten Bett. Das Hotel liegt sehr ruhig
Hotel facilities very nice and clean
Service from staff extremely slow and made you feel you were inconveniencing them. Cost of meals in the restaurant was high, expected decent portion size. Very shocked when an £18 poke bowl turned up and there was alot of plate on show than food- all the listed ingredients didn’t come, so had to ask for the missing items and told it was as because of new chefs Mattress was very uncomfortable, Premier inn more comfortable to sleep which was disappointing given the price difference!
Spotlessly clean, staff were amazing. Room was massive with decent AC. Linens and towels were lovely and soft. Couldn’t hear a thing from any adjoining rooms.
If I had to pick a fault, the mattress was an old spring one - comfortable but noisy. Also, not a problem for us, but no mini fridge.
Hot cookies. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking.
Extra bed wasnt in the room as previously requested.
Reduced parking fees, albeit expected zero
Air con didn't work and the staff didn't appear to be bothered
Have had the easiest stay here, middle of a heatwave and the staff could not have been more helpful and kind. Claire at breakfast was an absolute star and made me and my baby feel so comfortable, nothing was too much! Room was lovely everything catered for. There was a prom on one if the night's but they placed us in a room far away as we had an infant and we could not hear a thing, again so thoughtful!
nice air-conditioned room.
Nothing special about the breakfast.
Hot cookie on arrival, excellent. Friendly helpful staff, good buffet breakfast, nice big bar, quality bedrooms
Nothing all good
Goof location and comfortable.
Shower kept overflowing
Good location Restaurant menu had a good variety of food available.
My hotel was wrong and automatically charged to my card. Receptionist couldn't do anything. I was given an email address as also no finance person at the hotel to sort the over payment out. No hot water to have a shower. Hot breakfast option was over cooked. Room very warm, air conditioning didn't work properly.
The receptionist at the time of check in was a pure professional and welcomed us warmly. Location was perfect and the hotel was neat.
Staff warm & welcoming. Easy access to rooms and evening meal & breakfast was lovely.
Service in the restaurant was a bit slow.
Room, breakfast and location.
Evening meal overpriced and unappetising.
Lovely staff
Clean comfortable and welcoming
Bit out of Southampton
Convenient and clean
Has to wait over 2 hours for room to be set up according to our rebooking arrangements
I have stayed here on many occasions. It can be a bit hit or miss previously but the rooms appear to have been refurbished and they are now perfectly comfortable. The digital key was its usual gamble self, some work some don't. So, you can't "go straight to your room and avoid the queues at Reception" Plus, if you avoid Reception, you might forget to register your car and receive a ticket! We wanted a quick drink at the bar, however, as is usual at this hotel, there was no one behind the bar. Step forward Gina & Chelsea, who I understand are usually in the sales office who said they would try and help. They duly did and are a credit to the hotel and themselves. This hotel is a cost effective place to stay in and around Southampton and very handy for the the airport! We would stay here again!
Room was spacious, clean and very quiet. Breakfast. Ample parking.
Staff at housekeeping were very friendly and helpful.
A staff member walkied into the room without knocking he did apologise but it was very uncomfortable. He said he didn't know room was occupied. A staff member when having breakfast was very cross as my partner found a dirty plate so he took a different one the staff wiped thw dirt iff the plate with his finger and put plate back then started slamming doors and followed my partner around when he got breakfast.
Review of DoubleTree Hotel – Extremely Disappointing StayI recently stayed at the DoubleTree Hotel and unfortunately had one of the most frustrating and unprofessional experiences I have ever encountered in a hotel. From the moment I checked into my room, the air conditioning was not working, and the room phone was also dead, meaning I had no way to contact reception. I had to go downstairs in the middle of the night to report the issue. The staff member claimed he had “fixed it,” but when I returned to the room, nothing had changed. At 2:30 AM, I had to go down again because the room was still unbearably warm. Only then did they give me a fan — which is unacceptable for a hotel of this standard. In the morning, I reported the issue again. I was told that maintenance had been informed. After returning from my work‑related conference later in the day, the air conditioning was still not working. When I asked reception for help, one of the staff members dismissively told me to “go and check again.”After checking and confirming it still wasn’t working, I went back downstairs. Another staff member came to the room, but instead of helping, he insisted aggressively that the air conditioning was working. When I explained again that it wasn’t, he became visibly angry, walked away muttering the F‑word, and only then brought a portable air‑conditioning unit. This behaviour was completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable. No guest should be spoken to or treated this way, especially when the hotel has failed to provide basic functioning facilities.Overall, this stay was extremely disappointing. Poor service, poor maintenance, and staff behaviour that was shockingly unprofessional.
