LOTS of great value and included accommodations. The inn is beautiful and the food is delicious.
The in-room open air baths were a little moldy and difficult to control temperature.
Suiun was the best stay I have ever had. The Ryokan itself was beautiful and super spacious. The rooms, public and private onsens were super clean. The rooms themselves were stunning and so well equipped (even had make up remover for the girls and popular Japanese skincare brand trial kits). The staff were THE BEST, the hospitality was unmatched there, best service I have experienced and they're just genuinely kind and nice people! The kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were the best meals I have ever had and I am a foodie so I've had a lot of good food before. After dinner the staff gives you heated eye masks and cooling gel patches for your legs after a long day of sightseeing so you can get a good night sleep, what a gorgeous personal touch!! I could not recommend this place more!!
Absolutely nothing
This is a beautiful, clean, well-maintained place and its exterior does not do justice to how great it is inside. Our room had a bath with hot spring water and the hospitality was just fantastic - free lounge, late evening ramen and someone ready to help before you even ask.
We had to leave eventually
Traditional, staff, onsen.
This is one of the most amazing places we have ever stayed, if you are considering it and can afford it, do not hesitate and make sure you include dinner! The food was incredible. Like every evening it was multiple courses of amazing food (kaiseki)- we really loved it. Cool to be able to do a tea ceremony here at no extra cost and have the onsen on our balcony. Felt very traditional Japanese and loved wearing the yukata, it was all great.
Our balcony onsen view was of the car park- think we may have been unlucky as looks like others got views of the mountain
Rien
It was absolutely beautiful!! So clean friendly staff and excellent location
You will love this place. There’s nothing bad.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. I've stayed here for the second time and I am still in awe of the level of service here. It takes some time to get there, but it's absolutely worth it, as the goal here is to unwind and relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. And yet the ryokan is conveniently located close to Gora station, a convenience store, some small restaurants and cafés, a pretty park, where you can even go crafting or have some tea, and the cable car that takes you to Lake Ashi or Owakudani. The room was gorgeous and immaculately clean. As mentioned before, I've stayed here for the second time and I'm still amazed at the space, design, furniture, the lighting options and the calmness. The incense in the room is also very nice. The room comes with absolutely everything you need, including some free drinks in the fridge, a kettle and an extra sink and area to prepare the drinks. You can find tea bags and other small snacks and drinks in a small corner on the same floor. Of course the outside bath is amazing, this time though I sadly didn't get to make use of it, but that was owed to my own tiredness and jetlag. I filled it very late in the evening and the water was too hot to get in, then I forgot and fell asleep, only to find the water gone in the morning (it would have been cold by then anyways). I did however go to the semi public bath available for all guests of the ryokan and it was once again very beautiful. Also this time I could try a yukata, which I hadn't done last time. The food was once again exceptional, both dinner and breakfast. I chose the western breakfast this time and it was very delicious.
The only thing I was a tiny bit disappointed about was that the food was technically the same dishes or customization options as last time (sukiyaki and, I think, a seafood hotpot). Don't get me wrong, it was absolutely delicious and top notch quality and craftsmanship, but I was hoping to get to try a different selection this time. Another thing: this is a place of quiet and relaxation for all the guests of the ryokan. It is NOT a place to go to with a group of people to party. The walls are thin. You want to make sure you understand this before visiting. I'm writing this because this time there was a group of very noisy and annoying people staying at the ryokan, who made quite a lot of noise at night until they must've been told to shut it by the staff. Of course NONE of this is the ryokans fault in any way or form. This is an urgent request to visitors to remember where they are and to do their part so everyone can equally enjoy.
We (3 adults) stayed in a two bedroom suite. Beautifully done in trad. Japanese style. Unique partially open air bathtub with hot spring water. The Japanese breakfast was a delightful experience. Very short walk to park and cable car station
Due to the traditional design/environment the beds and sofa/couch are at a low height and no shoes are allowed inside the hotel. But these were just minor inconveniences in an overall great stay !
Super schönes traditionelles Hotel im japanischen Stil
The staffs are helpful and the place is serene. I enjoy the ryokan experience and friendly service.
The snack lounge is too warm to sit and enjoy some time together. The outdoor private onsen area has mold and can be really off putting.
The place was amazing. Everything was perfect in every way.
The only thing was the walk. But it's easily fixed by getting on the cable car and going one stop. Then you don't have to walk up the hill with luggage.
Suiun gave me a relaxing, pampering, and unforgettable experience. I had a great time and would love to come back again.
The snack lounge area is much warmer than any other spot. I will have a better time if that area is nice to chill.
it's a beautiful, traditional feeling and tranquil onsen that offers a very relaxing atmosphere and feeling, our room had a private bath which was excellent, also it offers free drinks, beers, liquers, ice creams and more, so it was super fun.
I'd improve the privacy of the balcony tub and the indoor shower, both are visible from the building across the street and it's an easy fix. also, since you're not wearing your shoes inside the hotel, I'd provide more large size indoor shoes.
Quiet, everything you need, fabulous service.
Wonderful room, large and comfortable. The in room hot spring tub was fabulous. We also tried one of the private reserved onsens. Breakfast was large and very filling with so many great good choices brought to us. Also the staff was friendly and treated us like royalty when we arrived by offering us tea and a small snack.
Maybe a little too much light coming in the room in the morning even with the privacy shades.
The Dinner and the Breakfast were so elaborate and nice. The private balcony Onsen tub was amazing and peaceful.
The public onsen smelled like chlorine.
We loved the room! It was equipped with everything you need. The onsen on the terrace was so relaxing. The staff would take care of every small detail. They were so kind to us. We wish we could have stayed one more night.
Nothing
This hotel was better than I expected. The room was clean and spacious. The staff were friendly, and the facilities were excellent.
The only downside is that ice cream stops being served after 6 pm. ^_^
Very nice place with real Japanese hospitality and atmosphere. We enjoyed this place really much!
Everything is in high end standard
Nothing
The Japanese breakfast was amazing and beautifully presented
Oh where to start… the room was very spacious, everything was very clean, the dinner and breakfast were delicious, very nice amenities. The private onsens were beautiful and relaxing (and intense haha) the balcony private onsen was such a wonderful experience. The little bar lounge was relaxing and filled with tasty snacks and beverages (both non alcoholic and with) The staff were so kind and generous. From the moment we came in, every interaction and meal was met with a welcoming energy. As American, I also tried to be quiet, respectful, and with good etiquette (no shoes on tatami, picked up my roller bag leaving, tidied up room before leaving, no loud rowdy behavior at the bar) And as someone with a bunch of tattoos, having the private onsen with HOT hot spring water, it was awesome It was a place to relax and recharge, very close to train (8-10 min uphill walk) and then very close to the Gora park / garden which end of May had such a beautiful rose garden (get Hakone pass!) Would 10/10 recommend
That I had to leave
I basically liked everything about this property. The staff, service, and amenities were amazing.
There’s nothing to dislike
We couldn't recommend this hotel enough. From the aesthetic to the service, it was all top tier. Stunning rooms with private onsen over looking woodland and then out on to the hills... so serine! The rooms were based on Ryokens and we even had the robes to wear whilst floating about the hotel. Very close to the train station, albeit up a steep hill. A few local shops and restaurants nearby. Wish we had booked more nights at this wonderful place!
Klimat miejsca, atmosfera i wspaniały personel!
Wszystko było super
Stunning property
Clean amazing staff
Nothing
Our stay at Suiun was nothing short of amazing. The location is great, really close to Gora Station so exploring Hakone is a breeze. The highlight of the stay is the atmosphere Suiun provides. From the entrance everything is tatami and traditional japanese furnishings. We were offered Yukatas and were taught how to dress in them which added to the authenticity of a true traditional stay. The food - where to begin - we were served a kaiseki dinner and breakfast that felt more like a Michelin experience; everything of exceptional quality. The staff was attentive, careful and patient; thank you Hana and Aya for serving us with the highest attention to detail. Our room also featured a private hot spring bath which was awesome and helped us relax after a day of running around Hakone's great sites. We felt it was good value for money for what is offered and would definitely return here. Thank you to all the staff for offering us what is one of the best stays we had in Japan !
If you want to experience traditional Japanese hospitality, a perfect onsen experience, with amazing service, Suiun is the place to visit!
Staff very friendly. Rooms spacious and comfortable. Nice serene ambiance.
Unfortunately we did struggle with the food options which are extremely limited. The outside private onsens really weren’t that different from the one we had in our room. I think there may have been one option which was more natural looking but difficult to get into as always occupied when we were there. There should be more drink options in your room than just beer. It’s sn expensive property not sure why they wouldn’t offer more than they do.
Facilities, breakfast (amazing Japanese breakfast), the Onsen!
Without a car and with some luggage it was a bit of a stretch from the train station, knowing that the 10 minutes walk was on a steep street
Beautiful Japanese experience
The facilities
This hotel is truly an experience on its own, and honestly, the photos on Booking don’t do it justice at all! Try to arrive as early as possible so you can fully enjoy everything the property has to offer. The authentic Japanese meals were fantastic, and the onsens, both the private bath on the balcony and the private/public onsens were amazing. The atmosphere, design of the space, and the staff were all great as well. We really enjoyed our stay here and would absolutely recommend it.
Nothing really
Staff and amenities very excellent
Not enough vanilla ice cream it was so good
Wonderful ryokan-style inn in the heart of Hakone. Friendly staff. Large, comfortable room with onsen patio. Additional private onsens on property. We did not dine there but was told that was excellent also. Excellent location, up the hill a short walk from the main station.
private bath, breakfast
staff didn't speak English well
Serene, comfortable, stylish and traditional. Room was spacious and quiet. Amazing onset experience. Free drinks and snacks! Amazing delicious kaiseki dinner and breakfast.
Everything was wonderful. Room, private and public baths were lovely and the meals were delicious! Snacks were also plentiful and good! The Hakone gardens are steps away from the hotel - a definite plus!
Ice cream should be all the time! Otherwise our stay was wonderful.
The food is amazing and private onsen
Nothing
Very clean, hosts were very accommodating even though our Japanese was not very good. Everyone was very kind and did their best to meet our needs. Food was served kaiseki style, which looked both beautiful and delicious. Hope to go back again!
ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. Hotel is traditional, no shoes inside, tatami everywhere. Staff is very attentive. Room was huge, with greta views and onsen bath on the balcony. There are three public private baths, that are also amazing. Breakfast is an experience in itself and was amazing. Snacks and drinks are included into the room price.
nothing
I could write a long essay about how nice this place is, but all I gotta say now is there is nothing wrong about this place at all and everything is perfect about the service. Although I would love it more if there is more activities like games and entertainments
None
Very traditional, beds were very comfortable and the facilities with the private onsens made it feel welcoming for everyone. Also great location - garden views were relaxing, however which show mountain views as trees cover them
Some elements of cleanliness weren't that high of a standard. For example - black marks in shower tiles, outdoor bath and also black mud/dirt on balcony area
I had a lovely stay at Suiren in Gōra, Hakone. The traditional Japanese room with tatami floors was beautifully charming, and the balcony had serene views. I loved the private onsen, the attention to detail, and especially the snacks in the lounge. The food was amazing, but I do wish it were a bit more affordable. Still, a fantastic experience overall.
The only things that could improve the experience would be a slightly lower price, and perhaps a bit of added luxury—like a jet bathtub in the private onsen, which would be a really special touch.
Really nice private open air onsen in room used twice a day! Great Location to Gora Station, Gora Park, Venetian Open Air Museum and close to Hakone Ropeway, Lake Ashi, owakudani Station plus more.
Location. Its a 5min walk from the gora station. Staff. Theyre always ready to help and courteous.
None.
The location of the Ryoken was a bit of an adventure from Hakone but I wouldn't let that put you off. It is perfectly located to get the ropeway over to Lake Ashi to see Mt Fuji as the cable car is a 2 min walk. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The amenities at the hotel were great with access to drinks and snacks 24 hours a day. They even have a pillow bar so you can choose a pillow to suit you!
There wasn't much going on in the local area with many of the shops and amenities closing early, so staying and booking breakfast and dinner at the hotel would make it easier (we didn't and it only made sense when we realised how closed things got in the evenings!)
Amazing hospitality, perfect meals, very traditional experience.
Traditional feel and ambiance from start to finish, very relaxing place, having private onsen on the balcony is such a lovely experience, and there’s a lot of complimentary inclusions like drinks and snacks, plus lovely yukatas for use inside the hotel; location close to second stop of the ropeway - good idea to jump on it on arrival to Gora by Tozan train to reach the hotel and avoid a steep climb with a suitcase :)) and to beat the crowds for Hakone loop
