Nothing really
The capet wasq
Location is in the center of the Pearl district in the middle of town, the property was clean, stylish, and room was large. Staff was more than helpful and friendly. Overall a perfect stay!

zeer vriendelijk ontvangen. Complimentary wine tasting at 5:00 and they really did their best to give you all the comfort needed. Parking was possible in garage (compact car) but that is really good in Portland downtown
Location was great. Was close to lots of shops, restaurants, and the venue we went to for a concert. Room was clean, and the shower was amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful.
The only bad thing was my room was next to the elevator so it was noisy when people got on and off the elevator.
Charming, classic hotel, very clean. Staff was excellent at the front desk and for additional linens. Location was perfect for a walking downtown. Very good breakfasts a short distance away. Powell's book store is always a favorite stop when visiting Portland. We would definitely stay again!
Parking location was convenient below ground. However, maneuvering tight corners was difficult with an SUV-sized car.
Fabulous location. Great vibe. Lovely high ceilings.
The mattress on our bed was extremely worn out
I always enjoy my stay here.
Location in downtown Portland is unbeatable. Overall felt like a nice hotel. Room was fairly big.
The parking lot was full and the parking attendant was kind of rude about it and seemed surprised we'd expected parking to be available. A little stressful getting all setup, but managed to find street parking nearby.
The building from the outside is gorgeous, the rooms were phenomenal. The lobby doesn’t do the rooms justice.
Location and friendly staff
The room has a very odd smell. Not clean at all!
Parking was quite challenging having to park in the narrow spaces in the underground garage.
The property was well maintained, unique, and in a great location near Powells. The evening wine tasting was a lovely perk.
They didn’t have parking spaces available at the property when we checked in, so we had to walk a few blocks. When a spot did open up, it was very convenient.
I stay here 9/10 times I come to Portland. The rooms are clean, the guests are respectful, the staff is great, and you can't beat the location.
The Max was a little more audible than I would have liked - we were on the first floor near the front of the building. But it was a minor inconvenience.
It was a convenient downtown location and the room was very spacious.

The bed and pillows were very comfortable. It was quiet and we appreciated the room darkening shade. Parking was very convenient and the complementary happy hour on the rooftop was fantastic! Partnering with nearby restaurants and cafés for discounts was a bonus. Location was great!
Nothing
It was in the perfect spot to access the rest of the city. The parking was great. Staff was upfront and immediately available for questions and to talk to when something needed to be addressed/.
Everything was perfect. I don't have any anti-comments.
Nice, welcoming staff in a convenient location. Perfect for exploring or staying in town for an event.

ubicación excelente! muy buena relación calidad precio
todo está muy viejo
Breakfast @ Cheryl's delicious, location -- fantastic
Bottled water couldve been a regular staple in the room as an option for guests who dont want to get water from the sink. A smart tv would be nice as well - that would be bee a nice option for guests like me who dont wach regular tv. Drinking glasses - the used ones - were not cleaned - tthat should be part of housekeeping.
Great location. Nice staff.
Elevators are extremely slow.
The bathroom was filthy, the toilet was gross, there were stains on the wall, and grime outlining the walls and shower. The floors were dirty throughout, the coffee maker was dusty, the outlet by the bed was broken and loose. The silverware was dirty and the silverware tray was dusty and had crumbs in it. It was as though no one had touched the room for a very long time and zero attention was paid to detail. The shampoo bottles were also falling apart. The logo was worn away on one of the bottles and someone “fixed” it with a sharpie- it was so tacky and weird. We will never go back there and do not recommend if you have little ones. You’re paying the same price for something that would be a lot better.
Location is great, staff was friendly and helpful! Nice clean quiet place! Enjoyed our stay!!
Mu husband was working at Portland Center Stage so I met him for a long weekend. The location is fantastic. Near so many great restaurants, coffee shops, stores , a few blocks from the theatre and of course Powell's Books is right down the street (for the book lovers!) Great staff and a very comfortable stay all around.
Wonderful historic hotel! We had a beautiful corner room with kitchenette and really comfortable king size bed. We walked to POWELL’S bookstore and Petunia’s Bakery for gluten free doughnuts 🍩 and baby cakes. 🧁 Such a nice couples getaway!
Great hotel! Clean and classy. The staff is VERY nice and helpful! Also, in a good location to coffee shops and restaurants and Powell’s Book store.
Staff was very helpful & friendly. No problems checking in or out. Only problem was the steps getting in. At a certain age steps are a problem
The steps. Especially with luggage
Everyone was helpful. Room was clean and spacious. Perfect location near venues, restaurants, and transportation. Highly recommend staying here.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Mark Spencer. The rooms were very comfortable. The lobby beautiful with many places to sit and unwind. The staff was amazing.
Staff were amazing! Room was very nice, and the location was perfect. The atmosphere was perfect, rooms were clean, and they had everything we needed, as far as shampoo, body soap and lotion. Another nice thing was the kitchenette, it was stocked with forks, spoons, bowls, and plates. There was a nice size refrigerator and microwave too.. We will most definitely stay here again.
We had such an amazing time! Walking distance to so many restaurants and a wonderful Saturday evening listening to music on the rooftop!
Comfort, location, Happy Hour
No coffee pot
Very good location and locally owned
My room had no light despite being a "deluxe" room save a shaft. I had no view and never knew there was a choice
Love room 506 for it's openness and room for 2 to get comfortable sitting. The mattress was very comfortable, and the blackout blind perfect. The crown mouldings a bous. We love the lobby carpets too -- bold, bright original and uplifting.
Our room was so comfortable and just what we needed. Prime location, very walkable to great spots, and so many nice touches. We will definitely be back soon!
Updated rooms.
Over a night club so very very noisy most of the night. Parking lot is tight.....good thing I had a back up camera!
The Mark Spencer is the best hotel in all of downtown Portland! If you’re looking for a place with amazing location, easy access to all of downtown Portland and a beautiful property you found it!
The only down side is because it’s a amazing historic location. There are about 3 to 4 steps. You have to go up to get into the property and when you have a heavy luggage, it’s a little bit of work but they do have wheelchair access if you request!
Comfy bed lovely room and fantastic helpful staff!
Nothing
Overall this hotel was great! Good location and easy to walk to lots of restaurants and Powells. We also appreciated being able to have our dog with us. The only issue was the reserved parking in the garage. The garage was really too tight for just a regular mid sized SUV.
The Mark Spencer is hands down the best stay in Portland! Not only is it the perfect central location, but it is the nicest most affordable hotel in the downtown Portland area! The rooms are spacious and filled with old-school charm. We’ve always had amazing, comfy beds, and a beautiful kitchen The absolutely best part of the Mark Spencer hotel is the atmosphere every single time I’ve stayed the concierge employees have been welcoming, informational, supportive, and extremely helpful. On our most recent day, we attended the rooftop, complementary wine and cheese, which was accompanied by music from a local artist! Lastly, we met the general manager at Mark Spencer also named Mark, he was absolutely delightful and gave us even more recommendations for the area and made us so excited to return to Portland in the future!
Had An amazing time staying at the Mark Spencer Hotel for 5 days. I stayed in a room with a kitchenette which had everything you needed to cook on a stove. I would recommend if you’re in the area to check out this hotel or if you’re looking for somewhere to go this is the place.
Wonderfully comfortable. Not sterile like a Hyatt, just homelike, with great staff and at a great location.
What a great experience at this hotel, the wife and I loved the ambiance! A mixture of old fashioned with some modern touches made the stay feel like we were on older times. The staff was very personable from the front desk service to cleaning service (had issues with the bank so they were understanding about the issue) tho was not told about the deposit after the payment through the Airbnb website. The doorman/wine bartender stole the show and that wasn't the complementary wine talking. The only hold back was no pool or hot tube but made it up with some free appetizers from a great stake joint near by. This place was the perfect location, very close to a lot of shops including the Powell Book store and plenty of restaurants to choose from. The rooms were very clean and enjoyable. So definitely would again & suggest to others!
Great location, just blocks from Powells books. Great food options all around. Friendliest staff you will ever meet! Called down for extra towels, there was knock at the door within minutes! Comfy beds. Spacious rooms.
Older hotel, but adds to the charm!
Good location downtown. Near Powell's bookstore and lots of restaurant options. Room was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Free coffee and tea 24 hours. Laundry facility on site (good for a long stay!) Dedicated parking lot.
Could have used more shelf/storage space and towel hooks in the bathroom. There was some noise from people out on the street hours into the evening. Cars were broken into in the area while we were there, but that is apparently an issue city wide and would be an issue at any hotel.
Mark Spencer hotel is great! It’s got an old school vibe and quirky decorations along the hallways. The room is very comfortable and the bed is comfy!
No breakfast provided. Tea and coffee 5 floors down- a little inconvenient. Location was great
View. Access to roof for fire works
The beds are VERY comfortable and the rooms were clean. No funky smells or noise issues. I would definitely stay here again! I especially enjoyed that they have a complementary wine hot social from 5-6. I guess it’s not always on the rooftop, but this time it was. They had beer, wine, cider and cheese with crackers as well as music. The staff was all exceptionally friendly. There is parking available under the hotel for an additional fee. The parking is secure with a locked door to go in and out.
So lovely and comfortable, and the staff was great. Friendly and courteous. A hotel with a human touch.
Great location. Easy parking garage ( paid parking but less than others around the area. Beds were super comfy. Customer service was awesome. Everyone was super friendly. Wine and music in the evenings. Walkable to many different places.
Their on-site restaurant was not operating but there was nice place around the corner.
Front desk help (female presenting) Friday eve (7/3) was amazingly friendly and helpful! All staff were great, she just stood out.
Friendly staff Offering excellent coffee all day Having a small gym. Offering Happy Hour in the afternoon and on the terrace on the weekend
Helpful staff, comfortable bed, gracious room, great downtown location
Center of downtown action
Old but in perfect condition. Very roomy
I absolutely love this hotel! The location is amazing, I walked everywhere over two days when I was there. The staff at the front desk have been consistently so kind, helpful, and fun. I have been staying here for years. The rooms are immaculate and the beds are incredible. I am a picky mattress gal, and in all the rooms I have stayed in, including a single room, the suite, etc. all the beds are incredible and I sleep so well. I am also a light sleeper, so I stay here because you can't hear anything going on outside. The staff does an incredible job of making recommendations and making you feel safe and welcomed. I have never encountered staff at this hotel that wasn't smiling, kind, or happy, which goes a long way with me! I also love that you can get free coffee in the lobby at all hours. I am a runner and will be up super early during my stay, and I can always count on fresh coffee being available. They also have a latte bar in the lobby should you need something more fun! This is definitely my hotel when I stay in Portland.
Tom is the most helpful person I have ever dealt with in any hotel. We stay with the Marc Spencer every single time we stay in Portland, which is at least once a year for the last few years, usually two or three times. We love everything about it. Thank you for another wonderful stay!
Love this hotel! Complimentary Wine was almost as amazing the city view! Harrison and Timmy at the front desk were the best and came in clutch when my wife needed some emergency feminine products.
Amazing spacious room, fresh coffee and tea in the lobby the whole day.
No breakfast, loud neighborhood.
Small family owned 6-floor historic hotel snuggled in downtown Portland. Rooms are very comfortable, sparkling clean and are provided in a variety of sizes. Plenty of cozy seating areas n the lobby for visiting and relaxing. Car parking is provided beneath the hotel for an additional charge. Every night there is a wine tasting event from 5:00 to 6:00, with live musicians Friday through Sunday. Continental breakfast available every morning, but hotel is also within walking distance of multiple dining experiences. All this and a staff that is personal, helpful, friendly and very knowledgable. Now when we come to Portland, OR, Mark Spencer will definitely be our roost!!
Our stay at MSH was perfect, and so was the location. We were upgraded to two rooms which actually worked out better than our original booking. Timmy was wonderful during check in, and the rest of our stay was impeccable. The room sizes were perfect for us, and both had kitchenettes. The rooms were spotless when we arrived, and all of the staff made sure we had what we needed during our stay. We will be returning next time we’re in Portland!
The employees at the front desk were polite and efficient. The room was clean, and the bed was super comfortable. I slept very well. The hotel is elegant. Moreover, on the premise, there is a place to clean laundry, which is a really nice touch. The location is in a very walkable neighborhood, and overall if I could give this hotel an even higher star rating, I would. Two words: well done.
Wonderful hotel, great staff, nice location.
Wonderful hotel. Excellent staff! We will always come back.
Location of hotel was good. Hotel was very clean. Staff was overall pleasant.
Wi-Fi was almost unusable. Room was noisy. No drawers in room. Closet door does not stay open.
Staff, style and location
No issues
I liked that there was a min well equipped kitchen. Also the bathroom and beds were so lovely, with a complimentary fancy robe. The only thing is being downtown portland these days, especially at night is a little sketchy. Also we pushed the beds together and under the bed was super filthy, tissue to boot... Other than that it was a fancy hotel, and really neat that it was a historical hotel... if those walls could talk lol
Really dirty under the bed, and there was a strange smell in the room, faint notes of i dont know what, initially walking into the room I wanted to go ask for a differnt room, then you kinda get used to it I guess.
It is always a pleasant stay with very comfy rooms, with kitchenette complete with cookware, safe hotel, lovely staff.
Great location! Hotel staff went above and beyond to be accommodating . The rooms are clean, comfortable, and the one I was in had a mini kitchenette. Location offered all the walkable things downtown Portland has to offer and just a few blocks from the lightrail. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to my favorite town. Again, great staff!
Great hotel! Jada, who worked at the front desk, was especially helpful. Her customer service was world class! The rooms were clean, and the location was perfect for exploring the city.
It was well organize and clean overall. The staffing was very open friendly and supportive
Eclectic hotel with a lot of history and modern updates. Rooms are arranged very comfortably. Staff is super friendly. Coffee available all day in the lobby with free wine and snacks at 5pm. Located near the Pearl District and Old Town. Great food and entertainment all around.
The wine and live entertainment hour.
The small elevator
Beautiful vintage hotel with character. Good service, nice bed. Clean. Nice towels.
This centrally located property is clean, charming and quiet! I highly recommend choosing this boutique hotel for your next stay in Portland! The staff are very helpful, the rooms are clean and spacious and the neighborhood is very quiet.
Right next to Powell Book store and many cafes nearby. They offer free drinks between 5-7pm. Room was big enough and was at 4th floor. Will surely visit again
Nothing
I loved the location! It was close to Powell Books and train to airport. I also loved the small apartment feel. It had a kitchenette which was convenient. I really liked the bath robes as an added touch. The laundry facilities were easy to use and worked well. The rooftop was enjoyable and the cafe downstairs was great too!
It was a little noisy with the train and traffic outside.
Mitten in der Stadt gelegen, Parkplatz vorhanden, sehr schöne geräumige Zimmer
I came to Portland on a spontaneous solo trip to try some of the most top rated restaurants in the area. When I arrived I was greeted by Jada who checked me in and even took her time to give me some recommendations of places to go in the area, I was very satisfied with the atmosphere of the hotel and it was nice to feel so welcomed. I have only traveled to Portland twice and I will definitely be staying at the Mark Spencer’s Hotel again ! If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
Room was clean and comfortable. The bed was especially comfortable. Everything we needed within the kitchen king suite. Very friendly staff.
What a lovely little gem in the heart of downtown Portland! It was a one night work trip and an ideal location with wonderful staff and I can’t wait to stay there again!
This hotel, like Portland, has seen better days. It has an aroma of old hotel. There is no on site parking, but you can pay $36 for the unsecured lot across the street. Our vehicle emerged unmolested at daybreak, but we weren't confident leaving it there. Personal deal-breaker was the air conditioner that did absolutely nothing, It was about 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the room all night long.
Rooms were nice and updated. The kitchenette was a plus. Comfortable beds.
They missed servicing our room despite them offering and said it would be taken care of. Parking garage tight and a bit scary.
Stayed one night before connecting with friends in the city for the weekend, and I definitely plan to return for future weekend excursions. The property appears well maintained, and the staff immediately makes you feel at home. The location is perfect to walk to great restaurants and shops nearby, and there are multiple transit stops within a 5 minute walk if you want to further navigate and explore the city.
Heater in room 215, inoperable. Space heater was loud and needed to be placed in an inconvenient location.
The location was perfect, and the room was so comfortable! They even gave us a free little portable doggy water bowl for our dog when we checked in. We used it a lot on the rest of our roadtrip!!
This hotel was perfectly situated for a trip to Downtown Portland! It is within walking distance to multiple public transit lines, shopping, theater as well as one block away from POWELL'S BOOKS(!). We took the Max train from PDX airport and didnt need to rent a car. The hotel itself was older but well kept up. The staff are all amazing and very kind and helpful. Tim at the front desk checked us in and was exceptional. He answered questions and anticipated our needs as I had arrived after a very long day. We were fortunate to rent a room that had a sitting room and kitchenette. The kitchenette was functional for our needs. The beds were clean and comfortable, and enough pillows to choose one that worked for us. The hallways to the room was decorated with playbills from theater productions. The hotel and hotel rooms had charm, and were not sterile like other chain hotels. All in all, good value due to location and the hotel itself.
