Beautiful property with direct lake access

Our room was right next to a staff office and the entrance to other rooms , this meant people coming in and out could see straight into the room and bathroom if the window was open

Never met one member of staff, no information at all in room other than wear a wristband around the premises, no wristband in room and no idea why we had to wear a wristband. Information about the premises would have been good. Went to reception second day to ask about tea refills, no one there, no idea if/where we could get refills. I stayed in a lodge at rear of main building. Smelt damp, room could have done with a good clean. Toilet had brown stains around the rim, biscuits crumbs and soap/toothpaste drops on bathroom floor clearly hadn't been cleaned. Mirrors smeared with cloth and dust behind chairs. l felt the room had a "caravan" feel to it.

When I arrived I was not oriented to the location, because you just go straight to your room where the key is waiting. This is convenient, but would be nice to have some sort of reception. I didn’t know there was tea and a sitting room until the end of my trip. Not sure if there was laundry available.

Lesley and Christine were the best! Always so attentive and assisting me with everything. I had an issue with the wifi the first night and luckily they could solve by the second night (I stayed in the main building)

The room could be vacuumed a little better

The site is beautiful, with lovely views over the lake and the grazing sheep. The building itself is not like a boutique hotel or a manor house, it's more like a youth hostel, so bear that in mind. The room was comfy and had a fridge and tea/coffee making and biscuits. Staff were lovely. You can walk to Ambleside if needed.

No breakfast although you could eat in the lounge downstairs and some people did. It's quite expensive really for a thing that's not exactly luxurious: but the setting makes up for it.

The common areas and exterior don't scream luxury, but it's still a beautiful place for the price. We also weren't able to check in over the phone

Great little traditional cottage dog friendly with everything we needed within walking distance of ambleside.

Shared garden not a huge issue this time but could be if neighbouring cottage do not like dogs.

Beautiful location, we stayed in the lodge and it was just perfect, the views and the size of the room was perfect for us and our baby. I would definitely recommend it if you want to stay just outside ambleside, walking distance to get to town too.

We were in one of rooms in Wansfell and it was as described, roomy, good views, and we were very happy with it. That Brathay is in its own grounds looking out towards Windermere, and has lots of open space is the best thing about it.

It was as described/expected.

The room lived up to expectations. View to Windermere. Convenient for visiting Old Brathay where our son was staying.

Three families descended on the our Block of rooms on Sunday afternoon. There were a lot of children (five or six) running about from one room to another and a lot of door banging, Luckily they only stayed for one night

It’s a very impressive building in a very beautiful setting. We had the twin room with a lake view and it was well stocked and comfy. The lady on the desk was lovely and it was decent value for money.

The window was a little tough to open as the room was very warm without the wind ventilation. The extractor fan in the bathroom had accumulated a lot of dust above the shower.

The room was ok but a few issues - The main issue was the cleanliness of the bathroom - grime around shower - just needs a really good clean or touch up Also the curtains were so far away from wall you could see round them There was UHT milk but that was off

I had a great single-person room with good facilities. I was here to hike and climb in the Lakes. The location was great. The breakfast package delivered to your room each morning was an amazing value for money and provided enough fruit and snacks to supplement your food while hiking.

Lovely big room with a nice view , Beautiful and peaceful location just outside Ambleside.Staff were amazing as well. They provide us with a lot of information about the hiking trails around a help us to choose the best one. Definitely will recommend!

Very noisy upstairs neighbours, about 6 hours of them running around, moving furniture (and maybe playing 10 pin bowling 😅).

room was great, with a very clean and spacious bathroom. accommodated my large dog very well. Great view, no disturbance, and the staff were very accommodating and kind.

The TV wouldn't connect to the internet, but everything else was exceptional.

Loved the doggy welcome pack. The location was ideal for Ambleside Keswick etc. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

I found the bed uncomfortable for me. Coffee stains on mattress confirms a little bedside table is necessary or even a little shelf. Cleaning needs more attention as there was lots of dust and dog hairs between the bed and the wall. One of the prints on the wall was back to front. Basic but ideal as a base.

It was compact without feeling cramped and of course nice and clean.

Camera spaziosa e dotata di tutti i comfort necessari. Vista stupenda sul lago dalla finestra. La posizione è davvero ottima, hanno un parco enorme e una spiaggia sul lago , con pecore al pascolo e abbiamo avvistato anche dei dani. Il personale è sempre stato gentile e disponibile. Esperienza davvero ottima, consigliatissimo! In 5 minuti di auto si arriva in centro

Friendly staff very helpful. The room had everything you would need. Very clean It also had a fidge. The reason I say this is because the previous night night I stayed at a very upmarket hotel in the centre of keswick High Street The room for one person was extremely small without a fridge, meaning with this hot weather, I had to get ice from the bar to keep my water cool throughout the night. luckily, I got the last fan, as it would have been impossible to sleep in the room with the high temperatures we are experiencing So, Brathay might not be the swanky hotel, but it had everything and more. views across the lake, parking only meters from my room. We had a wonderful stay at Brathay Trust in the beautiful Lake District. The place was clean, peaceful, and very welcoming, and all the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind. Our room had a beautiful view from the window — the perfect thing to wake up to each morning! The peaceful and calm atmosphere made the whole stay feel so relaxing. It’s also an ideal place if you love trekking and exploring the stunning scenery of the Lake District. We really loved our stay and would happily recommend Brathay Trust to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature. A truly lovely experience! 🌿🏔️✨

Everything! Love the location, the facilities were just right and the staff were amazingly kind. Special shout-out to Christine, who was superbly helpful and accommodating - making our trip so comfortable and happy. Rooms came fitted with a mini-fridge, electric kettle with tea/coffee/hot chocolate. Hair dryer and towels etc. 24 hr access to a lovely lounge with more hot beverage facilities. Access to a microwave on request. Not self-catering but staff very accommodating. Large estate to wander around on. Great hikes to Todd’s cragg for good views and about 25 minutes walk (slow) from Ambleside/Waterhead pier. Will definitely want to stay here in the future.

The only reason why I wouldn’t give this 10/10 is because I’m afraid it will become TOO popular and never have availability.

Ground floor. People walked on the grass really close to us when we were sitting. Didn’t feel private. My daughter has anxiety. First floor would have been better. Disruption due to burst water pipe and repairs during the night infront of our accommodation. Disappointed for my daughter. First stay away from home in over 7 years.

Didn’t bother me as I turned the fridge down at night. But if you’re a light sleeper you’ll hear it kick in every 15mins. Being a single room not the lodge size the fridge is positioned closer to the bed.

The location was beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was lovely, the bed was comfy. We had an amazing view from our window. We would love to visit again.

Great location, so peaceful and beautiful, wonderful scenery, loved spotting the deer and rabbits in the field and lovely views from each room.

The single beds were narrower than the regular singles.

Las fotos del alojamiento engañan, está todo viejo, el olor de la habitación es muy malo, las almohadas apestaban (no las usamos), la limpieza no era buena en general y además no pasaron a limpiar o cambiar toallas en 3 días que estuvimos. El baño estaba lleno de moho por las paredes y el techo, muy insalubre.

The place is exceptional to stay within. The room lovely . Kettle and fridge too. No cooking but eating is allowed within the room or there are various seats outside. The grounds to walk in especially to the edge of Lake Windermere are wonderful. The Hall itself is so cared for and so beautiful still. Far from the main roads too. The decor very restful and light. The bed exceptionally comfortable....and bedding spotless and cared about. I enjoyed my stay very much and would like to return one day. The receptionist was so wonderful helpful welcoming that this really helped me have a lovely holiday. I am so grateful to her.

I was very shocked as all was really wonderful except for the shower room. I found the worst black damp mildew i have ever found. I cleansed much of this away as quickly as I could but there is more left on the lower shower doors etc. But also under the water closet . Behind the sink and behind toilet is very left and I presume for some years. It seemed that no one would be interested in cleansing the bathroom. It was a terrible shock at such a beautiful place. My lodge room number was 4 at Loughrigg . A small single room is one of 8 such single rooms all called Loughrigg. What condition are thd others in ? I feel so worried about this. I just screamed when I found the shower in this terrible state. One could not step Iinto the shower the base was too black mildew. I explained to the reception point that room 4 shower would need cleansing when I was leaving. They would explain this to those in charge of cleansing .

Garden was shared with neighbouring house but this wasn't a problem for us as they didn't mind our dogs.

Windows didn’t seem to lock. Room a bit tired and shower was blocked. Stain on bed throw was a bit off-putting (although actual sheets etc. clean). We had booked a twin and a double but ended up with two doubles (easily rectified as the beds split). Fridge a little noisy, although we appreciated having one!

Really clean, all the amenities were great, we stayed in a dog friendly room, meets all of your basic needs. We walked into Ambleside which is 25 minutes away straight walk, also pathed route to hawkshead, Wray castle and skelwith bridge (to go to elterwater). Great location, friendly staff and reasonable price.

We loved adventuring around the grounds. Saw a couple of wild deer and spotted some other interesting creatures. Even has it's own private bay on Windermere The accommodation was comfy and simple. I think it is usually for young people holidaying with school groups but as it is summer they let it out to adults. The walk to Ambleside is only about 15-20 minutes. Beautiful location and the staff we encountered were very nice and helpful.

This wasn't our first visit as we have been several times before. Stunning location. So quiet. Easy parking. Lovely rooms. Friendly staff. 15min walk to Ambleside. Private beach(pebbles) for lovely swims loved watching the deer morning and dusk. Definately .visit again.

The view was gorgeous, and the place was very quiet and tranquil, which was very peaceful. The room was small, but cozy, and it came with a fridge. The staff were very friendly too.

The room was on the small side. Though that can't be helped, having a bigger space would have made it more comfortable.

The location was perfect and being able to walk around the grounds and see the lake was great. A really peaceful place to stay. The beds were comfy and the shower was good and it was great to have a good fridge in the room

As a lone female the ground floor pods were in a very dark and secluded part of the grounds and I felt a little uneasy with people being able to look in my window as they walked past and also not being able to sleep with the window open, as it was possible to open the door via the window. But I would definitely stay again particularly if I had friends in the neighbouring rooms or was in one of the other locations on the grounds

The surroundings are beautiful, a short walk to the lake, beautiful views, peace and quiet.

Unfortunately our room was not clean - it looks like the floor was not cleaned a lot all ( we found a lot of hair and dirt on arrival) as well as the big window.

Love the vibes, very clean. Beautiful walk to get there.

No breakfast included, no uber eats or delivery and the food shops are quite far, had to walk 30 mins to get pizza at night time.

The room was clean, tidy and I felt very safe with the access codes to access the room.

I arrived late in the evening. Getting inside the building was difficult until I found a member of staff who helped.

Great location. Scenic and tranquil

Spacious, clean and comfortable room with a beautiful view through large-patio-style windows. Armchairs and a coffee table in front of the windows, a decent sized table and comfy desk chair, a smaller table with the drink-making facilities and a large and comfy double bed, along with a large, well-appointed bathroom, provided all we needed for a great base very close to Ambleside and the surrounding area. Lovely surroundings, with access to the edge of the lake through meadows where I saw deer.

The room was advertised as 'self-catering', and I hadn't read the details carefully enough to realise that there weren't actually catering/kitchen facilities beyond a small fridge, a kettle and drink-making facilities in the room. However, the woman on reception was very understanding and helpful, and got us some crockery and cutlery to use, which is all we required during our stay.

A bit confusing for layout of rooms , locations within the property. Some rooms dark and gloomy. My room didn’t have a secure able window and so I did feel a bit unsafe. Most rooms had window security to stop wider opening.
