Location
Good location and parking.
It was expensive for what was essentially a pub with rooms. Some of the food was good, some average
Staff
Limited menu
We always like to stay in the hotel as the area is good and good views and walking etc
Great location friendly staff Callum was great at check in and was friendly throughout our stay
Food on evening let's the hotel down
Location and proximity to the lake and the shopping area. The views and the room.
Some of the breakfast arrangements. The toaster didn't really toast unless you stood and waited for ages creating a delay for others.
Great location, views, and free parking!
Nothing. It was fantastic.
Friendly staff. Great location.
Location was lovely
Room and en-suite very small Limited menu
Proximity to lake and town
Breakfast was in a cramped space. Menu was poor so we never ate there.
The location is spectacular as it's right on the edge of the lake. Breakfast is buffet style and is excellent with a lot of choices and the quality of the food is fantastic. Our room was a good size with en-suite and with a great view of the lake.
The wardrobe was small in the room we were in. We have stayed a few times and the wardrobe spaces in other rooms have been better but the view from the window made up for that. The only thing we didn't like were the amount of stairs to get to our room. We both suffer with knee pain and the stairs were steep. Previously we have stayed on ground floor so will definitely ask for that the next time.
Location and staff …..and very doggie friendly. In fact a sparklingly clean water bowl was available at all times
Complex breakfast procedure if you wanted vegetarian or even scrambled eggs, you had to order twice for each person at different locations. My partner and I had to eat breakfast in 2 sittings. The eggs and veggie sausages were served after we finished but the staff were very nice
All of it, exceptional
Nothing
Our room was lovely and spacious. Clean, large bathroom and comfortable. Although the window from the bathroom opened out to the noisy road and people walking by. The location is excellent by the lake. Breakfast was good. Nicely cooked.
The restaurant was awful and very disappointing. It was noisy and chairs constantly being moved across the floor. Not recommended.
The location was really really nice and the food for our tea and breakfast were delicious
Unfortunately we didn't get the waterside view that we requested nor were we told that we weren't going to get this request fulfilled. Not only that but the staff decided to shout, bang around and play music at 8 in the morning. I understand they were preparing for the morning rush but I don't think this requires shouting and blasting music that woke us up.
Parking. Breakfasts
Room was tired. Knob off wardrobe door. Tiles loose under sink. Trap missing from sink. Room was on the front street light & traffic noise annoying. Could do with moving toast machine from walkway, people waiting for their toast to drop. Limited vegetarian menu. Cold with all the doors open.
Good. Selection was varied
Small childs portion we preferred after arrival could be better. Should be identified as small portion for adults and of better quality.(fish & chips)
breakfast was v nice (coffee can be better) and is great location next to lake :)
room need some DIY sofa in room is "very tired" need replacing or new upholstery is not inviting to sit on it... bathroom - stain etc
Location is great, rooms large and clean and a great breakfast
The Bar menu was so uninspiring - actually boring
Very good area ,good for boats and Ambleside
All ok
Good parking in handy location for the boat and for walking. Nice size of room with view to little garden area.
Side and bathroom windows 2 metres from a fairly busy road - noisy!
Huge room, with a small balcony.
Breakfast and location were ok
Bathroom was far too small and the shower tile grout was black with mould. Shower was also tiny. Sink was actually in bedroom not bathroom. Nowhere to hang towels and fan in bathroom not working. Plenty of plug sockets but none anywhere near a mirror making hair drying tricky. Bedroom itself also very small. For the price we paid for two nights it was very disappointing
Loved the bedroom - the view from the room over Windermere was fantastic. We sat on the balcony in the evening looking over the Lake - wonderful.
We only had time to stop 1 night - shame we couldn't stop for 2 (or more) :-)
Great location with parking. Excellent breakfast. Great room.
Nothing
Loved the location on the banks of Lake Windermere. Room was beautifully decorated, large bathroom and comfortable bed. Buffet breakfast was plentiful and delicious with stunning views of lake
Location perfect. Staff very helpful and friendly and lovely atmosphere
Music in garden til after 10pm
Big Superior room with balcony and a Lake view. Bed was comfortable and there is a sofa and table infront of the TV. Bathroom is nice and clean along with a walk in Shower. Breakfast included in the room deal (All you can eat)
Very hot room at night even with the heating off and the door to the balcony wide open. It's all you can eat breakfast and I've never seen so much fat on bacon. The tray with all the bacon on was just full of white fat.
We like Ambleside and we like the water edge hotel a lot we have 3 or 4 times we go again
Clean and all staff where very nice
Locatuon
Generator type noise in the bedroom.
Great location and very friendly staff plus good quality breakfast with an amazing view from the lakeside.
Expensive for what it was, though we did book late, so to be expected. Room was small and bathroom especially, but wouldn't stop me staying again if booked way more in advance for more reasonable price.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was nice but there could have been a wider choice available. The location was good.
The bedroom was very small and outdated with the sink being located outside the toilet in the bedroom. Shower very small and needed resealing and the whole toilet area was in need of decoration. The staircase was extremely steep and narrow.
Good choices at breakfast, the green initiative was a great idea with the free drink each day.
We had to search for reception, too many dogs allowed inside, bed and pillows were not comfortable, towels were small and scratchy
lovely property with great functional spacious rooms
only down side we had to bring our own travel cot which wasnt an issue just something else to pack
Clean.. burgers were amazing and location was really good
The location is excellent, the room was excellent, we were in the main building room 11 and the bed was very comfy and the bathroom was spot on too. Breakfast was also really good too!!
Nothing. All great. I'm not overly critical about little things that aren't perfect. Nothing is perfect!
De locatie van het hotel, het ontbijt.
De kamer was erg klein en gedateerd, de foto’s op de website lieten dit niet zien. Daarnaast was er nogal wat geluid van de ventilator aan de buitenzijde.
Very nice staff, great breakfast, local beer and cider. Big parking space near the Inn.
Location great.
Seemed to be 1day for most of them very slow and no idea
The location is amazing, Right on the edge of Lake Windermere. The room was a very good size. Comfy beds and a good sized bathroom. There was a seating area, tv and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was a mixture of buffet and ordered food all to a very good standard and as fresh as it gets. Bar prices were reasonable and the food was nice, It did get very busy at times as to be expected but the staff went out of their way to get the queues down as quickly as possible.
The only downside is the shower cubicle in the room is a tad on the small side. If this was only half as big again then it would have been perfect.
Location good. Room and bed very comfortable. On bus route. Good variety at breakfast.
Dinner in evening very busy. Long wait for food and nothing to write home about.
The location
Stairs to room No toilet roll holder in our room Not to be a moaning customer but come on
Breakfast was good just seemed a bit all over the place by the time sat down gone a bit cold
Didn’t like havin to wait for toast took ages l
Breakfast had a very good choice and location was excellant.
The music from the tannoy which started early and finish late at night which could be heard in our room.
The view and every member of staff were more than helpful especially Keely the manager she went above and beyond to sort us another room out as my husband has terminal prostate cancer and couldn’t climb the stairs to the attic room we were first given
The rooms were of a very bad standard, carpet and wall decorations were dirty and needed to be cleaned and updated and I didn’t expect to pay what I did to be given a attic room which in my opinion was not fit to sleep in
Lively atmosphere, great views, dinner was nice , staff friendly.
Breakfast buffet was only so so on quality and variety of selection.
Room was clean , bed was comfortable , breakfast plentiful view breathtaking
could have stayed longer
Delightful location. Large airy rooms. And excellent food.
All good
Excellent location and near bus stops and ferry. 12 minutes walk to Ambleside centre. Also free parking for guests. Lovely garden area at the edge of lake Windermere.
Excellent choice of breakfast items but tea and coffee maker is in a bad spot, in the same place as people in line for cooked breakfast items. They should be in separate position to avoid carrying very hot cups in a cramped area.
Superb location. Nice cosy atmosphere. Beautiful outdoor seating by the lake.
Nothing really.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The ambience was warm and inviting, great views, the rooms were spacious, spotless, and very well maintained, and the location was perfect for exploring the area. What truly stood out was the exceptional hospitality. The staff were courteous, professional, well-trained, and always willing to help with a smile. They made our stay comfortable, relaxing, and thoroughly enjoyable. We would be delighted to stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a memorable experience.
None
Location set by waters edge and size of gardens
Dated decor and noisy room
Nice big comfortable bed and good ensuite. We were met by a friendly member of staff Alfie and helped with our luggage upstairs.. The closeness to the lake was wonderful and we enjoyed walking along the promenade and into Ambleside village
We thought the general music was a little loud within the bar area. The breakfast area seemed a little mixed up and could have been arranged a lot better. The toaster was placed right by the main through area of an archway and was awkward to access. The staff seemed stretched so that there was a shortfall of cutlery and table clearance
Location 10 minutes walk into town centre room was clean very comfy bed staff was very friendly
Great location, lovely buffet breakfast, nice quiet room
Lots of dogs
Ammenities, dog friendliness and beautiful lake side location
The room was large, comfortable and had a view of the lake. We particularly enjoyed having a sofa in the room as we were staying a whole week. The room was cleaned every day and kept well. Tea and coffee and a kettle were provided in the room.
The staff were not very welcoming on arrival and forgot to tell us which door to use if we were returning to the hotel later than 11pm. The breakfast was well cooked and there was a reasonable choice. However it was identical every day so after about 4 days we were craving something different.
Limited menu, nothing appealing. Just ping good no good chef would be please to offer.
Everything about this hotel was amazing. The view of Lake Windermere, the helpful staff, literally everything. Will most definitely be staying here again.
Loved everything.
Nice location and a good dining area bordering Lake Windermere. Comfortable room and bed. Good shower.
A bit noisy in room 10 as it was next to the busy road.
Room was fine, small but that’s to be expected.
Bar service was very slow. Breakfast food quality was reasonable, but the service extremely poor. Too many people to deal with, by what appeared to be just two staff(who did very well). Bar staff told us bar was closed at 11.05, which as a resident found a bit harsh - but fair enough. However, fairly loud music continued playing until 11.35, despite no one in bar.
We had a great stay lovely location.
room , outside area
breakfast ,higgilty piggilty
Breakfast was ok,not exceptional
A little on the expensive side, but location dictates I suppose
Location superb, room excellent, staff very efficient and food was good too
Nothing really
Skøn beer garden og adgang til vandet
Værelset var meget varmt og havde en del støj fra køkken ventilationen
Fantastic location
Bathroom was very small
They run out of food and drink also big queue at bar
Great location
Rooms small, no a/c and staff were inflexible on breakfast options as we had to leave before breakfast started. Some cereal or a discount on eve meal would have been expected.
Very busy so thought at first we would not be able to have an evening meal. Eventually we did.
Location, informality and choices
Needs a toilet roll holder in the toilet
Nice to relax in this cute hotel. Great location to enjoy the Lake District.
Amazing location
Everything
Nothing
Perfect location, friendly atmosphere. Lovely big comfortable room. Satisfying breakfast.
There were hand rails on all steps to bedrooms, but only on one side. One at both sides would give added assistance going up and down stairs.
Beautiful, priceless setting and view. Spacious room, well appointed, good bar, meals and breakfast! A gem of a stay.
Absolutely no issue at all, but the sloping floor was noticeable. This DID NOT detract from our stay at all.
Can't fault anything wrong with hotel made to feel welcome staff very friendly breakfast 😊
Going home
Location was amazing
Nothing everything was fine
We liked everything about this place, our room was huge, very comfortable and clean. Loved the patio doors leading to a small garden area. Lovely bar/restaurant, good breakfast. Ideally located right on the edge of the lake and a short walk into town. We would definitely return if we are back in the area.
Breakfast was satisfactory
Dog smell in the room however the bar manager, Reece, did what he could to ameliorate the odour.
Breakfast self service not up to usual standard
self service breakfast
Excellent location.
Small room. Windowless bathroom. Extract did not work. Reported on arrival. Still not working on leaving.
Rooms nice, modern bathroom, clean. Breakfast was good. Locaiton of hotel is good.
Bar queue is too long.
location
the hot water for the bath is not warm enough
So dog friendly
Bit tired in places
We were well looked after by the staff. Lots of people both eating drinking and staying. Knew the location well as I’ve been coming to the Lakes for 77 years! The hotel was perfect for our overnight stay
It residents could order food without queuing it would improve the stay
The location and friendly staff and good breakfast
There’s no air conditioning and the building is very old
Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms.

Room was excellent. Location was excellent, Facilities and food weere excellent
Certain member of Bar Staff took the liberty of taking a tip with out asking me when i paid by cash (Didn't give me any change and moved onto the next customer).
Lovely Location. Clean Room and spacious. Large bar area and lots of seating. Nice decor. Friendly staff. Spacious outside with plenty seating right next to the lake. Wonderful lake view. Close proximity to take a cruise to Bowness as well as other places. We gave our car registration when checking in and make sure to do that so you don't recieve a fine. Simple check in and check out. Would stay again. Breakfast was nice buffet style and enjoyable. Although would of loved to see coffee machine for lattes and flat whites ect. Other options. Good stay was happy with it.
Room 21 the door needs some adjustments it's sticks terribly and makes noise to open and close which must be annoying for surrounding rooms. Which made us conscious waking and disturbing other guests. I really disliked the pillows on the bed. I did let them know on checkout and the young man said he would feed that along. They were both thick pillows once you laid on them it felt like bricks under the head. The first night I honestly never slept all night. The next day I purchased some more pillows. The second night I slept with the pillow I purchased. So I would recommend the hotel offers a selection of super soft pillows too. Im sure this would of made my review really good.
Clean well equipped room. Friendly staff. Good food - breakfast and dinner.
Nothing significant.
Excellent location, excellent room, plenty of parking spaces (free for hotel guests), friendly and helpful staff, help yourself hot breakfast and the food was hot unlike a lot of places.
Nothing
Great location , very clean . Polite staff
Location location !!
The rooms are ok but bathrooms are ill equipped and shower is tiny ! There is no shelf space and nowhere even to hold a roll of toilet paper ! Would be nothing for them to install a shelf next to the mirror so guest can keep their toiletry bag and stuff ! Not well thought out and though it looks like a somewhat recent update - it’s done so cheaply it’s very silly ! The room is very sloped but I guess that’s just an older building! At breakfast this morning all the food was super greasy and when we asked for fresh fruit as mentioned as part of the breakfast plan, at 9:10 am I was told it run out and no more ! Then the gal came by to say there was some fruit and I went to find it was a frozen berry compote . Tart and certainly not edible alone ! Just too bad they’re being short sighted about a lovely place that could be soooooo much nicer with very little extra money ! A little attempt at presentation and making things look appealing would go a long way ! At check in a free drink is offered for making your own bed … which we took up their offer but didn’t realize that meant taking out your own trash and replenishing the tea etc … so again - a fun idea but just a little tacky to not attend to the little details ! It’s a lovely location and has a fantastic garden on the water edge .. bar is fun and service was fine !
the breakfast room and location were very good and exceeded my expectations
It was fab!!
