I have stayed at The Log House three times previously and every stay has been fabulous, which is why I chose to return for my mother’s 70th birthday. My previous experiences have always been very positive and I had been more than happy to recommend and return to the property. The location is fantastic.
Unfortunately, this stay was extremely disappointing compared with my previous visits. My mother was allocated room 29 on the ground floor while I was allocated room 33 further up. Room 29 was not up to the standard I have experienced here before and, because it was my mother’s 70th birthday, I ended up swapping rooms with her. The room felt dirty and tired. There were visible marks and stains, hair in the carpet which was not ours, an unpleasant urine smell from the bathroom mat, mismatched rugs which made the room feel poorly presented, and the mirror and surrounding bathroom area looked old and worn. I have attached photographs showing the condition of the room. After swapping, I also discovered that room 33 did not have a fridge. Fortunately room 29 did, so we were still able to use one, but I would have expected the facilities to be consistent between the rooms. Having stayed here three times before and always had such lovely experiences, the condition and cleanliness of room 29 were particularly disappointing, especially as this was a special trip for my mother’s 70th birthday.
Brilliant location with good parking opportunities across the road. Big spacious bed. Plush carpet.
The bathroom needs some TLC. Shower could use a deep clean.
We stayed in room 30, the room was excellent and the little terrace on the front made for a great evening having a tipple and watching the rain fall, very relaxing
Nothing, all excellent
Location proximity to Ambleside
Uncomfortable bed, noise from upstairs (very creaky floor)
Location
Wet carpet
Lovely clean room. Well decorated. Lovely scenery. Interesting history about the log house. Also the area is vegan friendly.
You do need earplugs for the road noise and other guests. But it goes very quiet from around 10pm until the morning. There are ear plugs in the reception
Bed was sooo comfortable
Clean warm and cosy.
Not a problem for us but you need to be able to carry your bags upstairs!
Close to the centre of Ambleside Clean and well maintained
Vicinity to town was good, parking manageable, excellent fittings, furnishings and cleanliness. Liked the small fridge and extras like Hoover / iron / hair dryer. Front porch nice.
Limited off street parking but 1 hour permit in peak hours. You can hear / feel a little movement of upstairs/downstairs neighbours but only slight. Plenty of places to walk to eat so room only ok.
The .location, the views from room, comfort in room, peace and quiet.
Nothing
Location
Stayed in Rm27 on the ground floor, however everytime the guests moved and walked around in the room above it was extremely noisy, no sound proofing between the floors, kept me awake most of the night, my recommendation for future guests, good location but do not stay in RM 27 if you want to get a good nights sleep
Beautiful apartment. Spotlessly clean. Bed so comfortable in great location. Very unique building. Highly recommend
Location and comfortable bed.
We found someone else’s underwear tucked between the mattress and the headboard. It made us think the bedding might not have been changed. There were no staff at the place but the text contact apologised and said they would improve their staff training.
Location, history, comfy bed, decent shower
Photos suggested a more spacious room, site mentioned each room has a “mountain” view but our room didn’t have a view
Location. Short walk into town and to the lake.
Bathroom too small and room very hot.
I enjoyed the spacious room and comfortable sleeping with the accommodation beeing a short walk either to the lake or to the town centre
I haven't really got any negative things to say
Spacious clean and great location
Nowt
Clean comfortable beds everything you would need for a short stay in the lakes
Great location. Bedrooms well presented. Easy instructions for self check-in and check-out.
Our bathroom was a wet room with only a fan for ventilation which meant floor remained wet for prolonged periods which made it quite slippy.
Great location, thought has gone into the deco, comfortable
The room, 35 was very snug; no room for luggage so if staying longer than 1 night it would be cramped. they warn you post booking it’s an old building and carries noise so felt uncomfortable that you were being noisy
Spacious room, great view and easy to get to. Bed comfy!
The parking situation, but it can't be helped.
Good place good value good location, zero staff interaction. Very comfy bed. Parking situation ok for Ambleside
A few hairs in the room, not 100% clean rooms some dirty floors etc potentially not cleaned between stays
The location was amazing! It was very convenient for us to go anywhere in Ambleside and the cafés, Tesco, pubs, all were accessible .
Rooms were a bit cramped. The interiors could have been more tastefully done up. The second or third day we had to request for a cleanup but while replacements of consumable were done the place was not vacuumed etc. The outside look of the inn looks run down.
The bed was large and very comfortable
The room was very dusty. It looked like it needed a good deep clean throughout.
Location and design
The location and cleanliness
The mattress and pillows were not comfortable.
The location is very central to both Ambleside centre and Windermere. The room was a decent size, very clean and an exceptionally comfortable bed with a lovely big bathroom.
Nothing to dislike.
Brill located and lovely building
Bathroom needs attention
Clean, convenient location, quiet
Lack of parking
The bed was super comfy and the space was great! Also the location was fabulous.
The bath had a few stains which we tried scrubbing off and the tap in the bathroom wouldn't work properly; it just leaked puddles onto the floor and mainly produced warm water (definitely needs an update)! The walls are super thin and we heard people talking most of the night unfortunately :(
Clean and good location
Very small rooms and bathroom not ideal for stays longer than a couple of days. No fridge as advertised.
Check in and check out was convenient. Lovely room, comfortable bed, and staff were very helpful.
The bed was the best ive slept in, stayed in room 28.
The option to choose groundfloor or above, due to sound
Room was very clean. Really nice decor.
Great location.
We enjoyed our stay and will return.
The log house was excellently situated, for walking around to the town and also the water edge. Had everything you needed. My wife loved the hairdryer!! Car parking was fine. Bus stop right outside. Lovely bathroom/shower room. Excellent TV. Access to the room was well thought out. Family who owned the property were very friendly.
Not keen on wet room shower facility. The shower itself was excellent
Really nice modern property! Very close to Ambleside! Would book again if ever visiting the lakes again. Easy check in and and out.
It was dirty in some areas! But not the main aspects of the room, I would still come again
Everything very clean and had what we needed.
Great location, easy check in, great rooms
Nothing really
A v nice place to stay, close to the town
Clean, comfortable, lovely toiletries and a huge bed in the Mountain View room.
Good communication from owner about check in .. very central for all the amenities of Ambleside .The room was small (29 )but had everything you could need including a fridge which was great..Very comfy bed with great pillows overall very comfortable stay.
The bathroom was spacious but I personally did not like the shower(wet room) been in the entrance as you walked in the bathroom apart from that it was ok
Everything
No WiFi even though it’s mentioned there is but it is not working
Great location, quirky
Booked room 30 with the patio, patio area in need of a good clean, wasn't swept, full of cobwebs, in need of a jet wash
Location is great, about 5 mins to the Lake and to all the amenities in town and the view over to Loughrigg is nice. Very handy car park directly opposite. Room was clean enough but bedding was incredibly creased and untidy.
I was lucky to visit the Log House and its beautiful interior years ago, the interior now is a really sorry state, really sad to see a total disregard for this historic building and levels of finishing like a bodged student flat.. just squeezed in as many rooms as possible and the decor is alike a tanning salon waiting room... Room was unbearably hot, even with windows open and fan on, the freestanding bath actually moved across the floor whilst we tried to fill it and there was barely enough hot water in the early evening to run a bath. The rest of the bathroom was in a poor state with gaps in all the tiling, bodged repairs around the sink and silicon missing or mouldy around the shower. Should have known when we spotted the ear plugs on the landing but you can hear every step and sound when people enter the building or walk along the floor above, not too bad if other guests are respectful but during our stay the upstairs guests came in loudly about 1am and could hear everything... bonus was to then hear them retching from 3am onwards... lovely. Yes, it's half decent value for money but spend a bit more and stay anywhere else in town.
Location was fantastic - only a 5 minute walk down to the waterfront past the garden centre and a couple of minutes into the main part of Ambleside with all the shops, cafes and restaurants. You can easily walk to Rydal Caves (only a few miles there ane back) and go and hire a boat on the water. There are two parking spaces for free in front of the property and we found it easy enough to get parked in one of them. There is a car park just across the road as well. Bed was relatively comfy and you couldn't hear any street noise despite being on the main road. The shower was powerful and the stand alone bath was a nice touch! Room appeared well equipped with a fridge, hairdryer and iron and ironing board. You can get Netflix on the TV and there is plenty of wardrobe space. Would recommend!
The room was unbearably hot at times. They do provide a fan in the room but we did struggle to sleep even with the window open (but may also be due to me being 35 weeks pregnant!)
Great location - close proximity to everything.
Small room despite measurements as majority of that was the bathroom. Bath mat is not a good idea though as doesn’t look hygienic - need to change that.
Convenient and very smart bathroom, comfortable bed.
The carpet had bits on it, but everything else was clean.
Room was up to date and clean Bed was amazingly comfy Location was perfect Communication great Instructions for arrival and departure were easy and straight forward
Only one teabag! Would expect 4 so we could have a brew each night and morning.
Looked great very peaceful close to the little village and amenities great welcome pack.
Nothing.
We had the most gorgeous stay at the log house. The room was unreal value for money. It was clean, comfortable, everything perfect. Parking. Right outside and super easy check in. The location is great right next to the town centre but super quiet. Would definitely book again.
Nothing
Very clean. Well presented room.
One very minor thing was that the toilet being so close to the pitched roof made using the toilet slightly awkward
Great location. Comfortable room.
Great location and clean
Nothing
price and location, easy check in.
cant fault it.
Good location
- the room very noisy cause by squeaky noise floor board from upstairs. - the mattress so soft
The location was okay
The room was unclean and smelled really badly of urine. There were cobwebs and the room generally felt very tired and hadn't been thoroughly cleaned. The creaking from the room above kept me awake most of the night. I would not recommend staying here
I didn't give a score fore staff. Self check-in, place was spotless could do with better cloths storage if staying longer. Great location
Clothing storage could be better, hot in our bedroom. But weather is very hot this year. Fan could be more powerful.
Good location. Easy access to the property . Had everything we needed for a short stay. We would stay again.
Clean, comfortable bed.Good location right in the centre of Lake District
Clogged drain in the sink and shower. Thick carpet, not practical becouse it soaks up water like a sponge and smells a bit bad but it was not big problem
Handy for town centre quiet and reasonably priced
The access code included a # this was reiterated a number of times in the instructions however no # was visible on the access board 🤬
Its accessible and has almost all that we need for our stay.
Since its summer and with the mini heat wave, it will be really helpful to have a good and reliable fan. There was a fan in the property however, the air from it is not really helping with the heat.
Room was clean and close to town a short walk. Bed and pillows were very comfy
Unfortunately temperatures were very high and the room was unbearable hot even with the fan on . There was a thick duvet on the bed and we had to sleep ontop of it as it was so hot 🔥 The bathroom was like a furnace.
Room was lovely, clean and tidy. Great location close to Ambleside and views of the surrounding mountains

2nd stay at the log house and it was once again amazing. Modern rooms and lovely features. Bed comfy and small fridge in the room took keep your drinks cold while your out. Seamless getting to your room with the instructions sent via WhatsApp from the owner to access your room. Lovely and quiet rooms too. Only 2 parking places at the property but car park opposite is yards away and cost me £10.60 for 24 hours if you cannot get in the park outside the property.
Nothing to complain about whatsoever
Lovely cosy room. Shower was brilliant and very comfy bed.
Comfy beds, great location. Very clean.
Booked a superior king as looked more spacious than doubles we have stayed in here before so was disappointed with the size of the room as did not match pictures shown advertising this.
Great location and lovely room
Slightly small
Very clean. Lots of little touches like charging points both sides of the bed. Good quality bed linen and towels. The owner obviously cares about potential noise issues so I liked that he asked everyone to be quiet. We didn’t hear any noise
Parking - but the owner explained all the options
Very clean, comfy bed and bedding, fab location
Room was lovely and clean. Cute and cosy.
Spotlessly clean. Very convenient location. Good info re local restaurants etc. Hot, powerful shower and comfy bed. Plenty of hooks!
Strange not to have bath taps to fill the bath!
The history of it and location
Fan did not work, room smelt musty ,bed too soft
The property was spotlessly clean. We were impressed that there was a cool air fan which was a godsend during the heatwave!
Nothing.
Lovely room, amazing shower. Loved the view out of the window.
Creaky floorboards in the room above, but only for a little while when people coming in or out their room. I was aware of this before I booked, lovely little place to stay and I would certainly return.
Lovely room, large comfortable king size bed and pillows. The shower was also superb with excellent temperature range and power. Moreover, the property was in a Great location with superb views and just a short 10min stroll into Ambleside.
I would have liked a mini fridge to keep drinks cool as I was walking for the weekend. I stayed during the heatwave and it was stifling hot so the drinks I had bought in preparation for my walk were warm, conversely I couldn't leave any to cool for my return. A decent quality mini fridge can be picked up pretty cheaply and this would have been a nice touch in an otherwise excellent room.
Great location very near Ambleside centre. We were able to park outside the building in one of the two available spaces but there was a car park opposite but it was a bit expensive. Access was easy with the code provided a day beforehand. Our room was on ground floor and was fairly cool which was a relief in very warm weather. A fan was also provided Bed was very comfortable and good shower. Great to have ironing facilities as well.
Would have liked a better supply of tea and milk as only sufficient for one cup each.
Good location. Short walk into Ambleside. Parking options available near property. Good communication from property. Good instructions how to access property. Bed comfortable and fridge in room.
You can hear some noise ie doors closing and footsteps from room above but it wasn’t really an issue and there was communication about this being an old property and noise travels.
We always stay here very clean and nice rooms
Location
Very hot inside due to outside weather conditions room fan was not great
Good location and lovely room
Overall very good, happy with location, cost, cleanliness, overall standard of the room
It was only explained / obvious after booking that soundproofing was an issue. You could hear muffled tv noise and walking arround above us in the middle of the night. It sounded like they was trying to get 10,000 steps in. Not loud intentionally, just muffled creaking for ages, which took the edge of the place.
The location was excellent for accessing both the town of Ambleside and surrounding areas. It's really close to the head of Windermere (easy walking distance) where you can catch the beautiful ferry to other parts of the lake. The room was comfortable and well equipped. The hosts were helpful, friendly and responsive and everything ran very smoothly from arrival to departure, which is excellent for 'unmanned' accommodation. Parking was easy, although we didn't get chance to use one of the two allocated spaces, the public car park across the road was very convenient and always had space available.
We enjoyed our stay. The only minor issue I had was that the road is quite busy and was noisy at times, but that is not something that the hosts can control. I would not be put off from booking again.
Great comfy room and location.

Great location. Very comfortable room. Superb bathroom. I found the building to be very quiet. Car park across the road. Hayes garden centre do a good breakfast too.
The view from the room and even the bed was excellent. Very bright, good facilities, and even a nice bath to relax and enjoy the view. Located close to Ambleside centre. Good instructions for self-check in.
Nothing
Good location, public car park nearby, excellent instructions about parking. Bed big and comfortable. Bus stop very nearby.
Noise level of guests walking around in room upstairs, poor noise insulation. In-ironed bed linen.
Large comfortable warm room , and windows that you can open. Very good value. Just 400m to Ambleside and bus stop right out front.
Bathtub is too small to be usable.
Ive stayed here numerous times. Its always clean and tidy. Check in is simple and information is sent prior which is helpful. Ideal location in ambleside. Always have a great stay. Price is really competitive for central lakes too.

The bed was huge & very comfortable. Great pillows …
Nothing to find fault with …. But worth noting if someone is booking this accommodation. …Only two spots for parking … so first come first serve … but we were lucky to get one of the spots . Would have loved breakfast to be included/ available
Beautifully set up and very clean
Lovely comfortable bed, good shower and lovely decor
Location was great. Bedding was lovely. Very luxurious.
Nothing apart from wardrobe. Hard to fit clothes in and see inside. But that was all.
Great location, 10 min easy walk from the main high street IE. Noise. Super comfy bed and excellent decor.
The bathroom in room 31 had a bad smell, almost like a broken or leaky pipe, so had a slight whiff of stagnant water or dare I say sewage. It was only slight, but noticeable.
No fuss easy check in. Cosy room with everything you need. Spotlessly clean and well maintained
Little bit of a walk into town. Room a little too small
Decent place. Great King Size bed
Maybe a little expensive for what you get.
Great location, the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in!! Nice toiletries, towels, and great shower.
No window in the bathroom and the extractor wasn’t great, maybe look at replacing the extractor.
Proximity to the town and how quiet it was.
Lack of free parking. Bathroom drawers were non existent- clearly broken in the past.
