Stayed here with my daughter for two night from the 6th to the 8th of August. This hotel in my opinion is far from four star. I’d struggle to even give it a three star. The room wasn’t very clean. The floor was dirty. The skirting boards were dusty as were the windows. The beds weren’t made the next morning. clean towels were just thrown on the bed and a cup that I use the night before was just left on the locker. They had obviously just come in and replace the towels and did nothing else. Breakfast was okay but only one coffee machine which I imagine would be a bit manic at the weekends. The location is great and the spa bath was amazing and Absolutely no issue with staff everybody was lovely but the place needs a complete revamp. It’s very shabby and rundown. I definitely wouldn’t stay here again. There are much better hotels in Liverpool for less money and a good location.
Stayed in this hotel for 3 days with my children..we arrived early morning and were allowed check in early and a room upgraded to a larger room. The staff were absolutely amazing our hotel room was beautiful Beauty and the Beast vibes. Location is absolutely perfect. Will definitely be back 🫶
Came here in June for a concert and returned again this time with the kids in tow. Had a lovely time , kids enjoyed the huge rooms. Breakfast went down a treat, location was ideal and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Special mention to the lovely manager - I'm so sorry I can't remember her name but she had blonde hair. She was so obliging and kind. Hope to see you again soon.
We stayed for two nights the location is great close to all amenities very welcoming and a lovely reception, we had room 202 unfortunately our room was not cleaned properly from previous guests the carpet was not hovered full of hairs and crumbs and the dressers had sticky substance all over it 🤢 the bath room floor is in desperate need of a good clean there was no shower gel or shampoo in containers I brought it to the attention at reception and nothing was done even the next morning they left clean towels on the bed but nothing else was done I. Room The breakfast was lovely Melanie on reception when checking was very polite and helpful
We visited Dixie Dean with our children to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Upon booking we requested not to have a blue room. Not only was the room blue but was extremely dirty and unacceptable. If it wasn’t for the children being so excited I would have left. I went to the front desk to express my disappointment in the cleanliness of the room and was told nothing could be done as no other rooms were available and a note would be left for the manager. No follow up was given. Breakfast was nice and some good choices. Staff seemed polite enough. Would not recommend and would not return.
Excellent location 10 minute walk to nightlife and shopping centre. Hotel was amazing clean comfortable rooms, friendly staff couldn’t do enough for us and breakfast was so good quality and plenty of choice
Great hotel, fabulous breakfast and the staff are amazing
Beautiful and super clean hotel. The breakfast is great and the room is super comfortable and big.
Great location good and very helpful staff room good with jacuzzi bath friendly atmosphere not many complaints
From the moment we arrived all the staff we encountered were above and beyond very welcoming and friendly there was 8 of us in three different room we arrived at 10am and were able to leave all our luggage so we could get on with our day without having lug our bags round with us when we went back to check in it was very quick and easy the reception ,bar and eating area were all extremely clean and luxurious all the corridors were clean smelled lovely and then we got to the room we had 3 huge bed for three people we all had the best night sleep super huge super comfy and clean the room was amazing and we had load of space for all out luggage and shopping bags the bathroom was clean and tidy the breakfast nice and hot cooked to perfection we all had the best stay ever great location to the shops bars and pubs all 8 of us would 100% recommend to anyone and we will be booking again for sure and just a massive shout out to to Melanie who was just truly the most welcoming lady we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting can’t wait to return
Wow what can I say , this is the best hotel we have stayed in in Liverpool , from our arrival to checkout the whole experience was above and beyond, all the staff was amazing but a big shout out to Jade and Melanie who helped with our every need. Amazing rooms and breakfast. Thankyou for making our stay for our mom's birthday special, we will definitely be back soon.
Absolutely brilliant stay. Melanie on reception was fantastic and very accommodating. The rooms were very good and the jacuzzi bath was a surprising bonus.
Excellent location enormous rooms beds so comfortable. Myself and my daughter visited for her birthday and we really enjoyed this hotel. Jade the receptionist was lovely and very helpful. Would definitely stay again
Awful Experience – Would Not Recommend From the moment we arrived, our experience was extremely disappointing. When we approached reception, there was nobody there to greet us. Instead, one of the bartenders came over and told us that we would "just have to wait" because they were busy serving at the bar. It wasn't a welcoming start. When we finally got to our room, it looked nothing like the photos advertised online. The room was filthy, with peeling wallpaper, flies in the room, stained carpets, and a general lack of cleanliness throughout. It was completely unacceptable. We asked to see another room, hoping the first was an exception, but it was somehow even worse. There was a large stain on one of the cushions that looked like bodily fluid, GROSS!!! The bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned properly, and the floor was so dirty that I wouldn't have walked on it barefoot. At that point, we returned to reception and explained that we couldn't stay. We had no choice but to leave and book another hotel at the last minute, which was both stressful and an unexpected extra expense. The only positive thing I can say is that one member of staff was genuinely helpful throughout the whole situation. She was understanding, professional, and did her best to assist us. Unfortunately, her efforts couldn't make up for the overall condition of the hotel and the poor experience we had. This was one of the worst hotel experiences we've had. The property did not match the standard advertised, the cleanliness was unacceptable, and the customer service on arrival was poor. We would not recommend staying here. We’re genuinely surprised the hotel is still being allowed to take bookings, and we don’t feel the rating on Booking.com accurately reflects the standard of the property we encountered.
Avoid this hotel at all costs. My partner and I booked this hotel after viewing the photographs on Booking.com. Unfortunately, I can honestly say that the images are completely misleading and do not accurately represent the condition of the rooms we were shown. From the moment we entered the reception area, there was a noticeable smell of damp and mustiness. We were allocated a room on the third floor and, as soon as we stepped out of the lift, the odour became overwhelming. When we entered our room, we were genuinely shocked. In all the years we have stayed in hotels, we have never encountered such an unpleasant, foul-smelling room. The windows were so covered in mould and grime that it was almost impossible to see through them. Quite frankly, this appeared to be a serious health hazard. The bathroom was also in an appalling condition. Looking back, I wish we had taken photographs, but my partner was so disgusted that he refused to stay another minute. We immediately returned to reception. The receptionist offered us two alternative rooms, also on the third floor. Sadly, they were little better. They were dark, dingy, had the same overpowering damp, mouldy smell, and were completely unacceptable. Initially, we felt sorry for the receptionist, as it was clear every room being shown would be as bad as the last and we almost felt embarrassed for him. However, when we requested a refund, we were given what felt like a rehearsed response: “The manager, Melanie, is the only person authorised to issue refunds, but she is currently on annual leave. You’ll need to contact her when she returns.” At that point, we had very little confidence that our concerns would be resolved or that a refund would ever be considered. As we had arranged last minute to meet family who had also travelled to Liverpool, we were left in an impossible position. We had to decide whether to book another hotel at additional expense or remain somewhere we felt was well below an acceptable standard. As a last resort, we asked to see one final room. Although the smell was less severe and the room initially appeared brighter and more presentable, we felt somewhat relieved, accepted it, left our luggage, and went out to meet our family. On our return, we had the opportunity to inspect the room more closely. We found: Stained carpets. Filthy sideboards. Windows that, while not as bad as those in the previous rooms, were still dirty and poorly maintained. A bathroom floor in a terrible state. We avoided walking barefoot on both the bathroom floor and the carpet because neither appeared clean. A shower head that looked unsafe and poorly maintained, so we opted to use the spa bath instead. Unfortunately, when we turned it on, it spluttered out dirt and grime. Thankfully, we had purchased cleaning products from a nearby shop beforehand, anticipating cleanliness issues. Even so, we decided not to use the spa function at all and simply used the bath. This experience was extremely disappointing. We love visiting Liverpool but the condition of this hotel significantly impacted what should have been an enjoyable time. The only positive aspect of our stay was the breakfast seating area, which was pleasant. The breakfast itself was acceptable, although the hot food was only lukewarm. The condition of several rooms, particularly the mould, dampness and poor levels of cleanliness, raises serious concerns. This is not simply a matter of décor or rooms looking tired—it is a matter of hygiene, maintenance and, potentially, guest health and safety.
A great place to stop minutes from the station , uniquely different rooms. Breakfast was a good buffet selection. Staff very professional and friendly. Only thing would be to put a fridge in the room.
Upon arrival I rang reception about the car park in which Melanie informed me of a discount code i could use which was really helpful! From start to finish she was just fantastic to even us arriving late for breakfast the next day and her helping sorce us a breakfast still! Brilliant stay thank you Melanie!
Lovely experience, staff were amazing, so helpful with everything. Beds were comfy so had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was a buffet, plenty of options and good quality. Hotel was within walking distance of station and city centre. We will be returning!
Stayed as part of a group in numerous styles of rooms for a long awaited friends get together. Whilst I live relatively local most of my friends hadn’t visited Liverpool before. Rooms were good, some needed a bit of refurbishment but that didn’t spoil our stay. Great location close to everything we needed. Breakfast was good but only scrambled egg on the buffet. Asked a helpful staff member and found out you can request poached or fried eggs if you want them which some of us did. All staff were helpful and chatty and made a big difference to our stay. Will rebook to again when family and friends want to visit as was very impressed with service.
Lovely short stay , very friendly and helpful staff especially Mel , comfy bed good breakfast and value for money Felicity and Graham
Had a lovely stay with my partner for our anniversary, the location is brilliant it’s close to everything. Staff were so helpful on directions giving us some amazing ideas on activities to do during our stay. Breakfast was superb wonderful choice on the buffet and accommodated for veggie sausages and fried eggs. Breakfast staff were very helpful and chatty!
Beautiful hotel lovely room and cosy reception.staff we're polite especially a girl called Aleisha and staff on f&b. Tasty breakfast and lots of choice.rooms we're good value
Me and my family called into the hotel on the way to the Empire to see a show as we were meeting our friends who were staying there. We didn’t realise non residents could come in just for just a drink, we were pleasantly surprised. Lovely surroundings and such a relief to be in the air conditioned cool bar after being so hot outside today I definitely recommend as an easy stop off on your way to The Empire or a nice drink while kn the area
Went in for a drink after visiting a nearby restaurant. Great cocktails and service. Lady on reception showed us a few rooms as we expressed an interest in staying. Some lovely pictures of the great man and Everton legend Dixie
Such a perfect location, right in the centre, everything is no more than a 10 minute walk. The hotel is quirky and very relaxed, the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable with air conditioning. Some bits need a bit of a spruce up but with a hotel steeped in such an amazing history and its location, those things really don't matter! Great value for money too. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. Special thank you for my son's birthday card, a lovely little touch 💙
Staff was amazing breakfast was lovely room was very big and very clean i will be back again in the future location was amazing very close to city centre bernie was very helpful with directions hopefully see youse all soon
This room was huge. I could sprint from one side to the next! The beds were super comfy. Bathroom had a spa bath which was super relaxing. All the staff we encountered were lovely. The buffet breakfast was tasty. I'd read some reviews beforehand about the cosmetic issues, mouldy windows etc. But this is to be expected with such an old building. I found the glass paneling over the original windows made the room super quiet. You would not think you were in a busy city! I liked the Dixie dean theming. Thank you. I'll deffo be staying again :)
A great hotel. It is very central to everything, we were able to walk everywhere. Room was lovely, staff friendly and the buffet breakfast was excellent.
Perfect location & good friendly attentive staff Room was clean and good Atmosphere in general good value for money Melanie was a loverly lady always very helpful a special thanks to you hospitality needs more like you 🫡
As soon as we walked in we was greeted by Jimmy who gave us a very warm welcome, he kindly let us leave our bags until check in was available. We really enjoyed our stay everything was perfect. Melanie is such a lovely woman, a true gem to Dixy Dean, Melanie went over and beyond for us especially as on my birthday night she arranged for our champagne to be in an ice bucket once we returned in after dinner. Just by the service provided especially by Melanie we will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay x
Great location, close to city centre, walking distance to attractions. Great welcoming team, above & beyond on our stay, room was perfect for what we needed, extra treat was the spa bath was amazing! Melanie was extremely helpful in advising us on our Journey home, checking transport & making our journey back was guaranteed. Thank you all.
My train was delayed so decided to walk in for a breakfast - what a great move. Lovely warm welcome, prompt service and a wonderful full English to set me up for the day! Adding poached eggs rather than the scrambled which were part of the buffet selection was no problem, nor were the constant coffee and orange juice top ups. Great value too. Recommended.
Met up with some friends for drinks before the foo fighters concert and the atmosphere was great. They had some foo fighters music on and the staff were very welcoming!
Stayed at this hotel had pre theatre drinks hotel is fabulous staff are lovely very welcoming. Cocktails on form and reasonably priced will definitely be booking again. Very central to all attractions minutes walk to the theatre would definitely recommend
stayed on the 1st floor room was absolutely beautiful and all staff was very kind and it was a warm welcoming when walking in to reception thanks for a unbelievable stay will definitely be back
Stayed in the hotel last weekend 19th to 21st June. Very happy with my experience. Staff were so helpful and courteous. The room was comfortable and breakfast was lovely. I hope to return to Liverpool again with my wife as the whole Liverpool experience was wonderful and will look to book into the Dixie Dean hotel also. Vincent
We had a lovely time there to celebrate our birthdays, staff are very friendly, rooms are amazing and everything was clean and tidy and the breakfast is also very good
stayed in the 12 sleeper cave with my friends for a hen party was a brilliant experience will definitely do it again beautiful restaurant breakfast was great and lovely staff throughout the whole building beautiful reception area very clean and tidy and up to my standards will be definitely be back
Visited for a family party and stayed here the weekend, stayed in the dixie previously and the experience is always amazing. will be back x
Location of this hotel was amazing . It was close by to the theatre as we went to watch the bodyguard. The hotel room was huge. 2 massive beds for 2 people both were very clean and comfortable. We couldn’t find the tea facilities but found them in the wardrobe. Might be better to put it on the huge table as you walk in . We had to put it on the bedside table as no plugs close by. The bathroom again was amazing. 2 x roll top baths and a jet bath with a shower above. The bathroom was clean and plenty of towels however the bathroom did have an awful smell like musty?. I couldn’t really explain the smell and the flooring wasn’t the bed but we did enjoy our stay and would probably return the breakfast was lovely and plenty of it. All staff were polite and helpful
Complete dirty hole!! Arrived a few weeks ago for a hen party stayed in room 106! Firstly our booking was for 3 rooms of 6, luckily there was only 4 of us because this room would not have slept 6! Whole room smelt like damp and needed serious upgrading! The shower was a trickle when set to warm you could have peed harder! Reported this to reception and the girl was nothing short of rude! Sent someone to look at the shower didn’t believe them and came herself. Set the shower to cold and told us it was working but when turned to warm it was a trickle, after some back and forth she said she would get someone to come on the Saturday and fix the shower. Lo and behold it was never fixed! Wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone there is nothing luxury about it! Given the negative experience the hotel is in a great location and central to everything.
Got a upgrade room for no charge and the breakfast was good
What an amazing hotel, it was beautiful. Room was absolutely gorgeous, clean and comfortable. Staff were absolutely wonderful, friendly and welcoming
Hotel was amazing an the staff was so nice an always on hand to help us rooms were amazing . Definitely going back to this hotel next year
From the minute we walked into the Dixie Dean we were amazed. The lobby is beautifully decorated and feels spacious and inviting. We were wowed by our room, which was spacious, extremely comfortable and very clean. It was also very quiet at night and we did not hear anyone other guest coming or going. The staff cannot do enough for you, and each and every one of them were polite and friendly. The location is perfect, a few minutes walk to Cavern Quarter. Special mention to Melanie who went above and beyond, Aaron also, who helped the evening one of our party hurt her ankle. We felt more like family than guests. Have to say, this is a special place. We will be back.
The location was perfect there were 6 of us on a stag do when we walked in we were all amazed of how stunning the place was . To welcome that all the staff were absolutely spot on , the breakfast was amazing the room was stunning I could keep going I will definitely be going back when I head to Liverpool again ❤️
Great service and all staff welcoming anf friendly. Loved the space in the room and the whole stay was excellent. Thank you
Just got back from a lovely stay at this hotel. We stayed for my sister’s hen do and had x 2 suites between 11 of us. The suites were huge! Lovely stylish rooms with plenty of room. Staff were very helpful and couldn’t have done more. Breakfast was great too. Will definetly be coming back to this hotel again
Good location lovely friendly atmosphere staff was so helpful especially chrystle and melanie. Bith rooms we had were lovely and confortable brilliant value booked to come again in december
Had a lovely stay it Was located in a perfect position for shops, train station and tourist location absolutely lovely atmosphere as everyone was friendly and nice and went out of their way to help you the rooms was very spacious and luxury beds and also a very luxury Jacuzzi bar breakfast was spot-on whenever you want a fry up or cereals and fruit or pastries it was all help yourself . for the size of the hotel I expected it to be noisy, but it was very quiet and slept like a baby would definitely come back we see you in December, thank you, Melanie and your team for a lovely stay xx
We had a top time all 8 of us agreed it was fantastic, bedrooms were amazing all clean , nice clean beds , staff were lovely and very welcoming and friendly, the breakfast was fab , something for everyone, we would all agree we would definitely go back there , well done to you all ,, and the best bit £29 b&b.
We stayed recently in an accessible room where my daughter is in a wheelchair and I have mobility issues.. I’d like to point out that the tea/coffee facilities were a bit impractical with no table set or side boards to boil a kettle and make tea. However the staff were absolutely fantastic especially Josh behind the bar nothing was too much for him and how he helped us in and out of the hotel.
Better than expected. Having read previous reviews I was a bit worried, but our experience was a very good one. All staff were welcoming and friendly and accommodating. rooms were large and clean. A lot quieter than I thought it might have been which was a bonus. fabulous location, only 5 minutes from the Cavern Club, 15 from Albert Dock. breakfast was a buffet, no biggie there’s no fried eggs, there’s plenty of everything else. Would definitely stay there again.
Perfect location, hotel is really nice. Good breakfast, lots of choice. Staff are wonderful and can't do enough for you. Definitely recommend!
We had such a lovely stay! The location is spot on—just a five-minute walk into the centre, which made everything so easy. Every member of staff we came across was genuinely friendly and welcoming. A special little shoutout to Trina, who was absolutely lovely and took the time to show us around the cave downstairs—such a nice touch! Our room was huge, clean, and tidy, with lovely fluffy pillows and a super comfortable bed. The fresh linen was great, and we were in room 214 on the second floor, which was really quiet—perfect for a good night’s sleep. I’d seen a few comments about mould on the windows, which I must say doesn’t look very nice.but it’s worth mentioning this is on the outer window, as there’s secondary glazing separating it from the room. You can’t physically access it, and given it’s such an old building, it didn’t impact our stay at all. Breakfast each morning was also really nice, with a good variety and plenty of choice. Overall, a really friendly, comfortable place—we’d happily stay again! 😊 Bonus: we parked with Q-Park and got a discount through The Dixie Dean Hotel, which made it really reasonable. It’s literally just behind the hotel—about a two-minute walk. I’d highly recommend the Magical Mystery Tour, which gives you access to the Cavern, also a trip to the Royal Liver Building. For food and views, Panoramic 34 has some of the best panoramic scenes in the city. And to finish a trip down the Mersey. O’Neill’s Liverpool was also a good shout, and we really enjoyed some live music on a retired tugboat—The Daffodil—down at Royal Albert Dock.
Lovely two days for the wife's birthday .perfect location in town .and a special thanks to bernie on reception who rushed our room through on arrival especially as all the grand national visitors were checking out ..breakfast was lovely as well ..will certainly be going back ..
Great location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of it. Beds were comfortable and bedding and towels were very clean. Why 2 stars? 2 reasons- we were woken 2 nights by loud noises and laughter in the corridor and the adjacent rooms. 5 separate times on night 1. The second reason is the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. Inner windows in bedroom were filthy and thick with mould. It would be a simple fix for the cracks in the bathroom flooring.
We recently stayed at the Dixie Dean Hotel for three nights as part of a hen party, and it honestly exceeded all expectations. From the very beginning, the experience was smooth and well-organised. The hotel sent a pre-check-in link ahead of our arrival, which was incredibly convenient and made everything feel hassle-free. When we arrived around 12:30pm, we were warmly welcomed by reception, who kindly stored our bags so we could head out for lunch without any worries. Once we returned and checked in, we were blown away by the rooms. We had a mix of accommodations including the 8-person Cave Suite, two 6-person rooms, a 4-person room, and a twin room. Every single one was beautifully presented, spacious, and perfect for a group stay. The Cave Suite in particular was an amazing space for us all to gather—ideal for music, drinks, and getting ready before heading out. The staff truly made the weekend special. Every member of the team we encountered was friendly, helpful, and genuinely excited for us and our bride-to-be. A special mention to the night manager, who went above and beyond trying to track down remotes for us, and the bar staff who even stepped outside to take a group photo. One of the receptionists also joined us for a picture, which just sums up the warm and fun atmosphere they created. The beds were incredibly comfortable, which meant that even after late nights, we still managed to get some quality rest. Breakfast each morning was a lovely buffet with plenty of choice, and the staff were attentive and chatty, always interested in hearing about our night and what we had planned next. The location of the hotel is another huge plus—it’s so central that getting to all the venues we had booked was quick and easy, which made the whole weekend run smoothly. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for such a special occasion. The combination of beautiful rooms, fantastic staff, and a perfect location made it a weekend to remember. Highly recommend for group stays or special celebrations!
The Dixie Dean was ideal for our hen party group. The rooms were ideal and the main room had hot tubs, plenty of space and mirrors for getting ready!! We were in the cave so it was our own party central and didn't bother anyone else with our noise! All the staff were excellent and went above and beyond, including the night manager when we rolled in with food after partying! Location was ideal as it's so close to everywhere and walking distance! Very clean with housekeeping calling daily. We had breakfast every morning and the food and cocktails were lovely! Overall, excellent spot and good value! exactly what hen parties look for!
This is not a luxury hotel at all, you can see it once was many years ago.the whole room needsa cimplete refurbishment. The windows have mould all around, the fixtures and fittings in the room need replacing. The beds are not comfortable and the bedding is not luxurious as advertised. The bathroom is a health hazard the jacuzzi blows black scum into the bath all jets are filthy as well as plug holes. The seal around both bath and sink are disgusting, you can see years of dirt and grime on the padded upholstery. The bathroom floor has many rips in it. I've got bites upon my body and the breakfast is a complete disaster fresh out of the kitchen and stone cold all hot items cold. The bacon tasted off and stank. I would not return even for a free night. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
Stayed here 2 nights with breakfast and had the most amazing time staff are so friendly and helpful ☺️ food was beautiful rooms spotless and comfortable beds will definitely be back highly recommend 👌
A fantastic stay in the Dixie Dean, a spacious and quirky room with a substantial and tasty breakfast. Beds so comfy. Staff friendly and helpful. A special shout out to receptionist, Melanie, who gave great advice on buses and attractions in the gorgeous city of Liverpool
Stopped at dixie deans last night absolutely fantastic hotel from check in to check out room massive awesome breakfast 5/5
Stayed on paddy’s night with a group of friends it was brilliant! Staff are lovely and really helpful We even got a free upgrade! Really good prices and it included breakfast the next day! Comfy beds / jacuzzi type hot tubs!
AVOID This hotel was a huge disappointment , after wanting to stay here for a while I booked 3 nights for my husbands birthday as we was going on a tour of Hill Dickinson.I was so deflated they gave us a room to sleep 6 people a huge room with 3 beds you couldn’t see the tv ,it wasn’t a nice room , there was suspect stains on the sofa ,very tired room .I went to reception and said I’m confused I booked a double room were a married couple we want a cosy room. She said this is the room booking .com dropped us in I said well why when I booked a double with spa bath ?? She did swap rooms and the other one was double which was better but filthy . As soon as getting in there the people next door were yelling and banging on the wall who knows why but we just ignored it. The bathroom floor was mouldy ,there was so much dust everywhere ,the kettle had to be plugged in in the bedside table as it was the only place to reach , we just put up with it as the tour was the following day and I felt like I didn’t want to complain again. The following day was breakfast , awful quality the sausage was inedible, hash browns weird tasting and mushy, a few croissants to choose from with a jar of Nutella just put out with a knife in. We left for the tour around 11am and put the please clean our room on the door.We arrived back a round 15.30 and the sign had gone off the door and put back inside so assumed they had been went in , the bin was still full , bed not made our dirty towels taken but not replaced no toilet roll left and no milk filled , we thought was strange as they’ve moved the sign .We decided to go for food and on the way down ask reception about the room ,when speaking to the receptionist another woman was yelling from a side room saying that the housekeeper is still on site something about st Patrick’s day and that they will be finishing the room soon , I said if they can just leave towels ,toilet rolls and milk that will be fine we said thank you and went for food , after being over an hour we went back wanting a shower and a rest ,went in room still no towels I rang the number no answer , we went back down and said we still have no towels she seemed shocked saying they was told to go back I said well that haven’t and we need towels (a simple thing in a hotel stay ) the towels were awful quality by the way .She said I will bring them myself so we went back up waiting to have a shower , after half an hour 2 barmen came up with towels , 2 had used toilet rolls and a cup of milk ,I said I cat have the cup of milk I have no fridge and where have them toilet rolls come from I took them and they left .We decided we can’t stay and packed to go home on leaving we told receptionist the problems she said she will leave notes on the computer , I’m trying to get a refund through booking .com but the hotel is not agreeing to our issues . This hotel is an insult to a legends name
Had booked our stay - a double room with Spa Bath several months prior to our stay, booked this hotel for its location to Lime St Station and the Empire Theatre. On arrival we were given room 102, a huge room with three large beds. I went to reception to explain I had booked a double room - I was told we had been upgraded!, I explained there was only the two of us, that I wanted a double room as per my booking (not a dormitory), the receptionist showed no interest again starting it was an upgrade. The room was dirty and disgusting, the photos seen online at time of booking DO NOT REFLECT just how bad this place is. Furniture stained/damaged, bathroom stained/dirty/damaged. The whole room is very tired, it felt like being in a coffin. The noise in the early hours by fellow guests was excessive - this was the same leading up to breakfast time in the morning. Quality of food very poor. All of this for £210.00 a night, it was a very disappointing stay and ruined our trip to the theatre/visit to Liverpool.
recent family stay at The Dixie Dean Hotel from 16th-19th of february room 103. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below the standards we expected, and I feel it is important to bring these issues to your attention. From the outset, our stay was disrupted by repeated disturbances from other guests knocking on our door and running off. This was followed by extremely loud thuds and banging from the ceiling at around 1am, which made it impossible for us to rest. The condition of the room itself was wholly unacceptable. There was visible mould around the windows, mould in the bath corners, and the bathroom floor was heavily marked. The floorboards were uneven and appeared to have dropped in places, creating both a safety concern and an unpleasant environment. Dusty furniture and litter left behind from a previous guest further demonstrated a lack of proper cleaning and attention to detail. More concerning was the state of one of the beds. One of the mattresses had a visible urine stain, which is entirely unacceptable in any accommodation, let alone a hotel. Additionally, the beds were not zip-and-link as we had assumed. Instead, there was a noticeable gap between the mattresses, and they continued to separate throughout the evening, making it extremely uncomfortable. Room servicing during our stay was equally disappointing. The only task carried out appeared to be emptying the bin, with towels left on the couch. Breakfast was another low point. The food quality was extremely poor, with soggy hash browns, unappetising sausages, and not being replenished enough, and coffee that tasted strongly of mould. The service was equally lacking—tables were not cleared, and there were no check-backs or staff engagement throughout. Additionally, the receptionist’s behaviour was unprofessional. While I stood waiting to be served, she walked off, preoccupied with her phone and twirling her hair, leaving me unattended. The reception area itself was dimly lit, and the corridors had an unpleasant smell, adding to the overall negative impression. This collection of issues made our stay uncomfortable and disappointing. Given the number and severity of the problems encountered we tried to find alternative accommodation but could not find anywhere with a family room , we did not feel comfortable bringing these concerns to the attention of staff during our stay. The overall atmosphere and the lack of approachability from the team made us feel that our concerns would not be taken seriously or handled professionally. The day after our stay i have tried contacting agoda who i booked through regarding this stay but the email they provided was incorrect. When agoda contacted the hotel they were less than helpful.
I'd give 0 stars if it could. The room was absolutely disgusting. Brown marks on the carpet, bathroom floor was a biohazard, with copper wiring showing through and completely torn up. We wouldn't walk in there without socks on. There was old urine stains on the toilet. Black bits came out of the 'jacuzzi bath' and there was water damage all over the walls and padded cladding they had put up. Plus a huge stain on the sofa and cup ring marks on the desk, presumably from a previous guest. Evidently they don't care about cleanliness or fixing the issues for us. On top of this they have put up perspex to cover the black mould all over the windows. They said that's all they can do for a listed building but we both work in listed buildings and know it can be treated inside. We complained on our first morning and were told since we booked with booking.com that we had to go through them. Receptionist didn't even ask to see pictures or apologise that we weren't happy. Mind you I paid on arrival, not through the app so they (still) have my money. We spoke to booking.com and they tried to fix it with the hotel but apparently the hotel couldn't come to a resolution. So we packed our stuff to leave. Only on coming down with our bags packed did they then offer us to see another room. We explained we weren't confident it would be any cleaner and her response was 'Well, i don't know what your standards are!' Absolutely disgraceful response and so rude. The new room she allowed us to view hadn't even been cleaned from previous guests and was no better. Bathroom floor the same, scratches across the desk and water leak stains on the walls. We were supposed to stay for 3 days and paid £314. We stayed 1 night and wanted our money back. Obviously. We were told the receptionist couldn't authorise that and we had to wait until 1.30pm when the manager, Melanie, arrives. It was 10am. I now had to fork out another £150 to stay at the Premier Inn around the corner. Thank god they let us check in early so we could shower and enjoy our 1 year anniversary. We went back at 1.30pm to speak to the manager, who also didn't care to ask to see pictures of the room. Clearly they already knew the state of the room. After half an hour talking to her she told us she also couldn't authorise a refund and we had to wait for the general manager who was conveniently on annual leave. She told us she didn't know how long for or have her rota to tell us, even though we both work in hospitality management and know that if you're in charge temporarily, you know how long for. After telling her this she said 'maybe 10 days'... So 10 days then. We asked for an email for the general manager, and she refused to give us her 'personal details'. We just need a direct business email for the general manager. They have to have one, even if it's their personal email that they use for work. That absolutely can be given out. She then agreed to give us the email so we could email and send pictures directly. This couldn't have been handled any worse. Rude receptionist and completely unhelpful manager. As we are both managers, we know that you can't leave a business without someone who can handle and rectify issues. Plus it's bad business to have customers leave completely unsatisfied. We will never be back and we will be fighting for our money back.
Cracking hotel!!! We had a great 3 night stay in the Dixie Dean hotel. Good checkin with Jade, extremely helpful on buses, tours, maps etc. Big room, very comfortable and extremely clean. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, and plenty, being refilled. Everything you could imagine for breakfast. Nice hot buffet style, full English!!! Breakfast staff were all extremely pleasant. Great location for train/bus services, and closes by ,very good restaurants, bars etc. good bar in hotel with barman Arron. Great chap!! We will be back!!!
What a lovely hotel this is our second time here rooms are big and clean you can not pick fault with it we got looked after really well breakfast was spot on and it was hot my granddaughter loved it for here 21 st birthday the location spot on handy for the nightlife and shops we be back in the near time we all loved it
As an Evertonian we just called in for drinks and to see if there was any Dixie Dean memorabilia (there isn't). There are 3 statues in reception, 1 of them looks a bit like Dixie but no idea who the other 2 were. The bar staff didn't know but at least they were friendly. I asked at reception and pointed to 1 statue and asked who it was. Receptionist said 'I don't know, I think it's Dixie Dean, you know who the hotel is named after'. So I asked about the other statues and she didn't know. If you're going to be sarcastic at least know what you're talking about!
Four of us stayed at the Dixie Dean in two rooms on a weekend break. Positives: All the staff we came across were lovely. Really nice themed public areas Rooms very spacious with everything you need - tea & coffee making facilities, iron & ironing board. Breakfast - plenty of choice of hot and cold food Great location - 10 minutes from Lime Street and 15 minutes to Albert Dock Negative: Would have given 5/5 but unfortunately the rooms were extremely dusty and tired. Desperately in need of a deep clean and refurbishment.
Stayed here few weeks ago daughter payed over £300 for the room thinking it would be luxurious anything but. No luxury toiletries cheap toilet roll .I left my charger and expensive vivienne westwood earrings and another pair under the pillow and my charger,my fault I know but tried in vain to get them back seemingly there was no sign of them I find it strange that even the charger was not noticed and the earrings 🙃 Breakfast was good and Sean was amazing never one apology for my lost stuff probably seen me as a nuisance .
Stayed here back in August and very dubious to write this but feel its the right thing. Upon arrival had the most wonderful and warm welcome. Decor was moody but magical and very fitting with the theme. Having been shown our room the first impression was wow. It was huge , immaculate and impressive. Few cosmetic details could be touched up eg floor in the bathroom the lino was warn , lower doors were chipped, jet bath was producing black from the jets but didnt put me off. Approx 00.30 my daughter woke me up claiming the air con was making a noise but was not the case. Infact the room was leaking in the bedroom and the bathroom through the ceiling. Called reception and was moved swiftly but being in such a deep sleep was a inconvenience especially with a 14 year on tow. Turned out the room above had left the bath running and hand come through to our room. I made the complaint on check out and was advised to contact the manager which I did. I was then offered a 50% discount for another stay for the inconvenience. I replied with dates suitable , 12 weeks on still not heard anything. Very disappointed at the fact something out of my control and the time of the evening and no current confact.
A basic hotel that does the job if coming to Liverpool and planning on being out and about. We had a jacuzzi bath in the room which I really enjoyed. Room was clean. Decor was old fashioned and outdated but this was all part of the vibe it's going for and we did like it. Breakfast was basic with friendly staff. Nice cocktails also.
Really disappointed this time! We stayed here 2 years ago for my son’s 18th and had a fantastic stay, so we were very much looking forward to returning. We booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers which was mostly fine, some minor points like the spotlights were out above the dressing table, and the room was so dark it was hard to actually get ready. And cheap, thin toilet roll did not go down well. A decent quality of toilet paper should be standard in a hotel surely?! The biggest issue was the second room we had booked for our son. This must have been some sort of disabled access room, as the shower was fixed to the wall at about four foot high, which meant our 6 foot something son had absolutely no chance of standing under it! The bathroom itself smelt vile, like sewage, the flooring was worn and looked dirty, and it was just generally unpleasant. He didn’t make a fuss but I wouldn’t have stayed in there! Another issue was the bar had no lager on draft, given it was the Friday of a very busy weekend in Liverpool I thought this was really poor. We headed out for food for a couple of hours and were told our room cards would access the front door when we returned. This was not the case, at 8pm we got back to the hotel and couldn’t get in as neither of the cards worked. We were ringing the door bell and knocked on the glass door as we could see the lady on reception, but she was clearly busy (but with no guests in the foyer) and left us there for a good while before coming to open the door which I thought was quite rude. Cold breakfast options were ok, but people asked for ‘hot’ items to be warmed up in a microwave as they were cold on the buffet servers. On check out we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay, if we had I would have have raised all of the issues that we had. Not sure if the hotel has changed management since our last stay, but the experiences were worlds apart, and sadly we will likely book elsewhere in future
We have just come back from staying in the Dixie Dean, it was fantastic from start to finish. The location was superb, as was the breakfast. I couldn't say enough about the the staff they were so nice and accommodating. We will def be back

Location was good, bath was excellent
Shower wasn’t great Flooring in bathroom in need of repair Carpet in room in need of a good clean
Rooms clean and comfortable...decor through out amazingly quirky
The staff was nice
Cleanliness carpets was very filthy also mould in one of the glasses also the bathroom was filthy and worst was pulling on the duvet to find big dirty brown stains which ruined the whole stay as it felt so dirty
Breakfast. We went for breakfast at 9/20 there was no bacon no fried eggs no brown bread no hash browns no artificial sweetness.4 sausages left and 2blackpuddinhs.
Nothing.
booked for our wedding anniversary ended up with a room with 3 large beds, ridiculously decorated too. Hotel staff lied and blamed it all on booking.com saying that they would never allocate such a large room with 3 beds if a customer requests a double room. Had to leave this awful hotel immediately, as it was not what we thought we had booked. Absolutely shocking hotel.
For the size of the room and location within the city, great experiance and price, will definitely stay there again.
All good with no issues,
Breakfast was very good. Loads of choice, good quality and great portions. Location was very good. only 6 mins from train station. Handy for tour busses and central to atractions !
Nights where cutting in and getting darker. Even during the day the light was dim inside the hotel. Hotel could of done with more lighting or better lighting. Similar in the Room. Personally I am not a fan of Carpet, due to allergies. I know it is more hygenic if non carpeted coverings is easier to clean and manage. i now this is a big ask but. Would it be possible to consider non carpet floor coverings as Carpet harbours dust and dust mite. I did have a problem with my Asthma COPD and bronchiectasis !
