Overall, our stay was good and we would definitely stay again at this property.location was awesome. The room was very big, offering plenty of space to relax and unwind. To top it off, the manager was wonderfully hospitable and gave us a free breakfast as a compliment, which was a lovely and appreciated touch that made our morning even better.

A really fantastic hotel in a great location, close to both Kataragama and Yala. The rooms are spacious and clean with private balconies. The staff are very accommodating. This is a great place to stay.

The location was close to Yala National Park and it was convenient for the driver to pick us up. The hotel was very big and we had the pool to ourselves and the view from our room was 10/10. The staff were very friendly.

The sheets were a little dirty.

We were very happy with our stay and the staff and Manager (Ms. Dammika) were very accommodating. We travel with 3 kids so it can get a bit hectic, but we had a very relaxing stay thanks to hospitality of the staff.

Un établissement qui reste accessible et plutôt agréable, notamment grâce à un personnel vraiment très souriant, accueillant et attentionné. C’est clairement l’un des gros points forts de l’expérience, et sans cela le séjour aurait probablement été un peu plus compliqué. En revanche, quelques points sont dommageables, surtout pour un établissement affiché comme 5 étoiles. La chambre manquait un peu de propreté : draps légèrement tachés et présence d’un insecte mort dans la chambre à notre arrivée. Rien de dramatique, mais ce sont des détails que l’on s’attend moins à retrouver dans ce type d’établissement. Nous avons également rencontré un petit souci au restaurant : les plats servis ne correspondaient pas à ceux que nous avions commandés, ce qui a entraîné pas mal d’attente avant de recevoir les bons plats. L’équipe est toutefois restée très souriante et accueillante, et a pris la situation avec le sourire, donc aucun conflit à signaler. Ayant eu l’occasion de séjourner dans plusieurs établissements 5 étoiles dans différents pays, je trouve malheureusement que le standing annoncé n’est pas tout à fait à la hauteur de ce que l’on peut attendre d’un véritable 5 étoiles. L’expérience reste correcte, mais quelques ajustements au niveau de la propreté et du service permettraient vraiment de faire la différence.

We paid for full board. On arrival we were not notified about lunch will be alacarte. It was misleading. We wouldn’t have choosed full board if so. Misleading Room didn’t have a phone to contact the reservation. We had to walk to the reception for tiny things also Good thing is the friendly staff

We had an amazing stay at Grand Tamarind Lake in Kataragama and were extremely happy with the entire experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the moment we arrived, we felt very warmly welcomed. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, attentive, and professional. They truly made us feel like valued guests. And the welcome drink… WOW! 🤩🤤 It was absolutely delicious and honestly one of the best welcome drinks we have ever had at a hotel. We loved it so much that we even had to ask what it was called! One thing that really impressed us was the level of care and attention from the staff. They even called us to check whether we were coming down for the breakfast buffet. We have stayed at many hotels, but we have never experienced this kind of personal service before. It was such a thoughtful gesture and really showed how much they care about their guests. The hotel is located in beautiful and peaceful surroundings by the lake, creating such a relaxing atmosphere. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and we felt very well taken care of throughout our stay. What made our experience especially memorable was definitely the exceptional hospitality and outstanding service from the staff. They truly went above and beyond. We would absolutely recommend Grand Tamarind Lake to anyone visiting Kataragama, and we would happily stay here again. ❤️ A huge thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special and memorable!

The people and the location. People team was l managed by Ms.Dhammika whose inspirational people management was evident in the standards shown in every department. Property was very clean and the restaurant staff were very polite and helpful.

Breakfast was excellent with a reasonable choice but the evening meal was not anywhere near the desired standards. I was told the kitchen was handled by trainees on the day we stayed. However it’s only a minor compared to the host of other services they offered to exceed our expectations.

The location is close to kiriwehera and kataragama devalaya. They arranged a tuk tuk for us to visit those places. The room was large and clean with all the facilities. We got dinner from the menu and it was delicious. The breakfast buffet was splendid. The staff was friendly. Overall It was a nice stay.

Monkeys were running on the roof so we were awakened by the sound of it.

This is a handsome, upmarket hotel on the edge of Kataragama, with all rooms overlooking the lovely pool area and the lake beyond. The bedrooms are large with balconies and spacious well equipped bathrooms.  The gardens are well tended, and home to langurs and macaques. It's a ten minute walk into Kataragama to the sacred temple complex with its fascinating mix of Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim worship areas.  We timed our visit for the Esala Perahera festival (15 days leading up to the full moon at the end of July/early August) and the town was thronging with pilgrims, with the ceremonial elephants being bathed in the river before the evening procession. We also enjoyed a great visit with Janaka Safari to Yala National Park, the northern (quieter) entrance is just a few minutes from Kataragama. Food choices are a bit limited in Kataragama, but the Grand Tamarind's restaurant is a good choice.

Very beautiful location with the lake. This was my first time at this hotel, and I will definitely visit again. The rooms were large, including a spacious bathroom, and everything was very clean throughout the room and hotel. The staff members were pleasant, very supportive, and handled everything in a responsive and wise manner. The garden and pool were also lovely. There was a small incident when it took some time to get our room, and we had to wait around 15 minutes, but the staff managed the situation very well. The breakfast buffet offered great value, fresh food, excellent service, and a pleasant atmosphere, making for a really enjoyable start to the day. The food was fresh and delicious. There was a good selection for a breakfast buffet, and everything served was satisfying. A place worth visiting for a hearty breakfast!

Stinky room after house keeping staff handed over the room to us. They mopped the floor with dirty mop. Bathroom is the same. Two ornamental plants just infront of the reception is half dead. no one is there to pour little water. There are many managers can be seen around. But no body cares. Swimming pool walls are absolutely dirty with fungs. But the pool water is clean. Except cleanliness this hotel is fabulous. Staff is top ten. Location is top ten. Food is top ten.surrounding garden is top as well. Definitely we will go back.

One major deep clean in every 3 months will sort the all problems .

Beautiful surroundings, clean rooms, and friendly staff. The stay was peaceful and relaxing.

The Wi-Fi could be better, but overall everything was good.

Breakfast buffet good considering it was included in the price. Coffee and tea facilities could have been better and pastries could have more taste but nothing serious to mark them down. The location onsite makes things convenient. Nilakshi and the team on the reception desk were very helpful and polite at all times. We were even sent a complimentary bowl of fruit to our room.

Problem with wasp infestation while we were there, but the staff were obviously taking care of it as best they could. Some of the walls show signs of damp but it was nothing too serious. Lift/elevator was small if you need to take suitcases to upper floors. Our suite had a jacuzzi, but it was unusable as there appeared no way to heat it sufficiently.

Very convenient location, all the main religious locations could be easily accessed. The breakfast buffet and the dinner buffer was excellent with a good variety of local and Western food. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Beds were not too comfortable, too bouncy but that could be personal preference. Toiletries could be better.

Personale accogliente e sempre disponibile a qualsiasi orario anche all’una di notte quando abbiamo riscontrato un piccolo problema nel letto. Vista mozzafiato sul lago e posizione molto comoda per raggiungere Kataragama temple! Colazione ricca e cena molto molto abbondante, tutto eccezionale!

This was my second stay at Lavendish Tamarind Lake, Kataragama, and it was another excellent experience. The few minor issues I encountered were addressed promptly and professionally by the staff. A special mention goes to Dammi, the on‑site manager, who was outstanding throughout my stay, always helpful, attentive, and genuinely committed to ensuring guests are comfortable. The view from my room was exceptional, directly facing the beautiful Detagamuwa Lake. The hotel is also within walking distance of the city centre, which is very convenient. The breakfast was included and offered an amazing selection of both English and Sri Lankan dishes. The room itself was huge, with plenty of space and a balcony overlooking the lake — ideal for families as well as solo travellers. Overall, a very comfortable and memorable stay. I will definitely be returning with my family, thanks to Dammi and the wonderful team.

Breakfast (set menu) must be improved. Selection of Bread are not up to the standards. Slices of onions will not be matched to English breakfast. Please find a solution for jumping monkeys to roof it creates lots of disturbance for sleep particularly early morning.

Proximity to the temple we wanted to visit

Cleanliness - the rooms are not clean, the fridge had mould growing in it. The shower smelled bad, the lighting in the bathrooms are really uncomfortable. No ventilation in the bathrooms.

We had three gests, but water bottle was not enough and tea & coffee also not enough. This is my only complaint. All other are is very good. can recommend always.

The location, size of the suite/room. The dining experience. The F&B team were attentive and super. Our b/f was packed for Safari in time. We didn't have it during the Safari but were accommodated for the breakfast after our Safari.

The check in experience. Despite advising the hotel of our arrival time, the room was not kept ready. Attention to detail was missing as we had booked the suite and were offered a regular room with extra beds. On showing the booking details they moved us to the suite which meant another delay and the room was hot as the air conditioning took time to take effect. The booking mentioned 2 bathrooms but the suite had only one!

Food was really delicious, we wen taround 2.00 p.m. there, and they were manged to arrange a high tea in an hour, specially would like to mention Ms. Dammi , she was reall helpful.. will go again definitely
