Good location and nice garden to sit in
Restaurant experience poor as appeared short staffed. After booking the restaurant in advance disappointed at not getting a river view - but by 9pm we were the only ones in the restaurant and ordered dessert but after half an hour left but was on bill so they took it off. Shame as we were celebrating our Golden Wedding Anniversary
Beautiful location. Staff were extremely lovely and friendly. Very helpful
Drinks prices are very, very expensive. Could do with a little TLC in places however understand it’s an old building.
Great value, nice room overlooking river.
They don’t answer the phone
Breakfast was excellent
Just the location.
Room was very small, bed was small. Decor was very poor. Asked for an upgrade for a cost. Told that would be ok and to come back at 3pm. Got back at 3pm and was told there had been a mistake and the upgrade was not available, even though a price had been agreed just one hour before!
Seating area adjacent to the river closed for private function. Room not ready at check in at 3.00 Pm we were told housekeeping doing final checks. when we got to the room we discovered a cracked sink, went down to reception to complain and ask for addition milk due to only two but four tea bags in the room, cup of tea at the end of the night and start of the day is essential for the both of us. I was told house keeping would bring them up as none held a reception. Got back to hotel room discovered that the Tv remote did not working, so unable to access watch tv. Housekeeping finally arrived with milk so I informed them about the tv remote, managed to get this changed. We went out into town and had the most amazing meal ( The Hand and Flowers, highly recommend this one). We came back and wanted a drink at the bar. The drinks very expensive, we were told £24 for one large glass of Sauvignon Blanc. They were cheaper at the two Michelin star restaurant we attended. We walked to a local pub ( The two brewers, highly recommend this one). When we got back to our room we both fancied a cup of tea so I popped the kettle on only to discover that the it did not work. I went down to reception and asked to speak to the manager. I had a little wait, the manager arrived and I explained to him that this was not the standard that I expected having paid £197 for my room. I explained to him that in my opinion this was not a £197 room nor a a pleasant customer experience. I asked the manager what he would do to put this right. He explained to me that he did not have the authorisation to do anything but would make a note for the duty manager to look into my case the following morning. I asked if I could expect this to be resolved at checkout he confirmed that I could. At checkout I asked if the matter regarding my room had been resolved, it had not. I was told a duty manager would contact me. It has now been 7 days since i checked out and nobody has contacted me.
Lovely room (with genius upgrade) with a view over the river, quiet and comfortable. Very good location with garden
The public areas oif the hotel are quite grubby and need deep cleaning or fresh paint, e.g. fire doors very dirty Continental breakfast is quite expensive-a slightly better range of fruit and seeds etc would help
Superb location and easy parking.
Overall tired appearance and in need of a refurb. Room had a wash hand basin with major crack and was unclean. When reported seamed at a loss as to what to do about it. Major wedding disco noise until midnight. This was an expensive room rate.
Great location close to and walkable to all Marlow has to offer. Excellent breakfast with service to match. All staff we came into contact with were friendly and helpful.
Floor boards were a bit creaky but to be fair that’s only to be expected and in keeping with such an historic place.
Amazing location
Needs an injection of money to be great again. It is extremely tired and needs renovation
Location was stunning
Bar staff were slow and difficult to communicate with
Size of room and view plus dogs allowed
Windows very dirty in room. Broken shower connection. Bar was quite gloomy so didn’t use it.
Clean and comfortable room
Very tired and grubby public spaces which need updating
The location was great
The breakfast was poor everything should have been fresh. The service was shocking. My husband didn’t receive a full breakfast when raised no apology came and burnt potatoes were brought. Overpriced offering with poor service and a bad attitude was what we received.
Air con went off middle of night
Location
Hotel needs updating and painting
The location
You have to pay for parking. The breakfast is worth £26.00
Our room was spacious and the bathroom was very nice
One “side” of the hotel , the part that is near the suspension bridge looks untidy from general upkeep and debris
Just across the bridge to town.
Disappointed in the overall quality and appearance of the hotel. At first glance we thought this will be great, located on the river the garden was bathed in sunshine. As soon as we checked in and made our way to the room it was clear that the corridors were in need of a refurbishment, then the damp patches and crumbling plaster was just before our room. The room felt like it had not been decorated since the 80’s. While we are not ones who demand daily change of towels or the room to be cleaned while we are there, for a 4 star hotel I do expect my tea/coffee/toiletries to be replenished, unsure how they expect 30ml of shower gel to last 2 people for 4 days nor the 4 tea bags. The lack of attention flowed through each part we witnessed, the garden bar could no longer be used as they leave all the cushions out overnight in the rain and storms, so even though the weather brightened up later you could not sit by the river. Staff had a if I don’t look up no one will ask me anything and if I don’t see that glass or plate I don’t have to pick it up attitude. Even the white painted exterior on the bridge was flaking and just seemed to show that no more care will be given
Location
Tired and poor upkeep.
Great location and styling
Breakfast buffet was poor and tired decor
The location is fantastic and all the staff were excellent.
The position of hotel, breakfast and the care that the staff took to make our stay enjoyable.
Our room in main building was a little tired.
The location is very central and easy to get to restaurants and shops. Beautiful outlook right in the river. Staff very very helpful and informative.
It’s a bit tired and dated
Great location right on the river great view from our window.. Very good staff, nice room with good bathroom.
The pillows were not very good, from ordering breakfast to getting it on the table took an hour and this happened to at least another couple.
Location - excellent. Room comfortable
Furnishings in room "tired"; cleanliness in common parts average (food on floor / down side of chairs). Attention to detail poor - eg clearing away plates / bottles / glasses; resetting tables / chairs. Bar didn't have cider / glass of rose. You have to pay £10.20 per day to park in hotel car park
The location was lovely
Very tired rooms, old furniture and fixtures/fittings. Dated bathroom/shower. Desperately needs updating. No frills, fridge empty and didn’t work, very dusty in room. Outside furniture ok, outside bar lacking, no wine, lager pump not working but didn’t change barrel, no lime.
Always so lovely to stay here Views/ balcony/ decor Stayed in winter & summer never disappoints
Nothing
Grwat location and friendly staff. Beautiful view from our room and the breakfast room
ROOM: was tired and in need of some TLC, Rm92 worn/ripped curtains, exposed plaster from socket outside the bathroom, broken tape, rusting shower door. BREAKFAST: Stayed B&B whilst Full English is included Smashed Avo & Poached Egg, or Eggs Benedict has a £6 supplement charge, how can these dishes cost more than a Full English and warrant an additional charge??? PARKING: Charged at an additional £10 per day, absolutely ridiculous when you have paid for a room for the night. This is a 5 Star location/setting but not a 5 Star hotel
The location was amazing, a short walk over the bridge into town. The garden and restaurant had a beautiful view of the river and church, I would visit again even if not staying there. The room had a lovely view of the river and weir.
toilets in reception not kept clean
We had a wonderful stay for our anniversary. Very clean and comfortable. In an excellent location and we had the best meal at Sidhu, the on site Indian restaurant. We will definitely be booking again.
We liked everything.
Lovely room overlooking the river. Very comfortable lounge Close to good walks and town centre
Full Breakfast was underwhelming (pre-cooked?) Garden tables not cleared of used cups and glasses CHARGED FOR PARKING ALTHOUGH NO MENTION ON WEBSITE OF THIS.
The location, this hotel could be something special with significant investment
We were so disappointed, the air conditioning didn’t work, the hot tap at the sink didn’t turn on. The room was grotty and the decor throughout the hotel was terrible. This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The bed base was covered in stains, truly shocking
Location
No aircon or fans offered in the bedrooms Lack of staff Being charged £10 car park.
Location
Sadly, very short of staff & therefore service was poor 👎🏼
Brilliant location and dogs are welcome. Hotel looks beautiful from outside but rooms are very dated and scruffy, there was no room service for the 3 nights we stayed, bins not emptied etc, reception staff not very friendly, bar attendance poor, could not get a drink after 11pm.
Service not good, rooms not cleaned, charged for parking at hotel
Lovely building and fantastic location. Perfect. The staff are wonderful and being next to the river watching the world go by was magic,
If being critical the rooms are spread and no lifts but that’s the nature of an older building and you’d know that before you booked anyway.
Excellent location
The pillows on the bed were too soft.
Everything was amazing, the view on the river was fantastic. Breakfast was delicious. Also staffs were very friendly and welcoming specially Adam who was very helpful and nice. I will definitely repeat my visit.
Nothing
Location
Old and needs an updated
The breakfast was really good and breakfast staff very friendly and helpful.
The room was stiflingling hot despite having the fan on full blast. Goodness knows what it would have been like in the heatwave, Window only opened 6" so could not get any air in. Didn't sleep at all and our poor dog was panting all night. I was really worried about her, almost took her down to sleep on the sofa. Rumbling noises behind the wall in the bathroom. Car park view Nothing special on the dinner menu so ended up going to a pub round the corner
Location was great. Room clean and tidy. Staff friendly
We had a ground floor room. The window wasn't easy to close and could be opened from the outside. One pet hate I have with Hotels is the salami slicing of extra charges. £10 extra per night for parking. That is very annoying. I should have spotted it in the detail. I assumed on-site parking was free. Come on.. Treat your guests with respect
Good breakfast all in all and a good service.
The porridge was not cooked long enough and was very hard on teeth. I stopped ordering it. Also, the ceiling in the restaurant had dead insects and spider webs all over some areas. This was not pleasant and should never happen in a restaurant where people eat.
Hotel is in an excellent location, large clean room and good value for money through booking com
No WiFi in room also no phone so was unable to contact reception. Number given on info in room to contact reception was a Glasgow number!!
Excellent location on the bank of The Thames
Only a minor issue but the bedroom carpet needed a deep clean
Lovely spot on the river and close to the town
Love it
excellent breakfast beautiful room, comfortable bed, wonderful garden on the river to sit and visit, read, have food and drink - amazing
not quite enough staff
The location
It’s a very nice property but looking tired. It needs a good refurb.
Great location on the river and so close to walk into Marlow . Also benefit of Sindhu restaurant on site Nice bedding
Not enough staff for the place. Some very rude guests and reception staff. Outdoor bar closing at 6 on summer evenings. Mess everywhere, tables uncleared, crows eating leftover food. Our room had a balcony but when we opened the door part of the roofing fell down, just missing my head. Balcony old and crumbling The beds are old and have saggy mattresses
Hi
Location
Stayed here many times however service in the bar in the evenings is always a problem. Waited 15 mins then had to go and look for a member of staff! The staff seem to be covering the restaurant and the bar. Breakfast service in the morning was very slow!
Everything was great
The staff were lovely but need more support at busy times There was also a strange rule that guests could not eat bar food overlooking the river but could eat restaurant food We asked if the duty manager could make an exception and let us eat with a view and he did!
Enjoyed the outside eating area.
I thought the attention to external woodwork was very very poor. I think you should have a permanent member of staff (handyman) working continually on rubbing down and prepping/painting the external woodwork. There is so much work to be done here that delay now will result in substantial deterioration of what you have. If you are not careful you will be spending very much more on new replacements re doors and windows etc,
Location
Property looks tired and in need of repairs
Primarily the location and it was exactly what we wanted. The birthday surprises - like the towel cake and card were great.
The price of the alcohol- especially the wine was extortionate
The riverside location is beautiful
The breakfast service was such a disappointment, not to be repeated
Lovely location
Staff we not friendly and at times rude and that’s when you could find someone. Ordered room service and the items were not brought to the room. When we went to the inside bar there was no staff to be found anywhere. Room was dirty, cold tap would not turn off in the sink and when had a shower the water was tepid
Room comfortable and great view
Restaurant for dinner was lacklustre - rather limited menu and lack of other guests
كل شيء كان رائعًا
Location was fabulous. Lovely view of the river and an easy walk into town. Perfect.
Room is a little tired.
Breakfast was cold and poor service
Service of the waiters
Location is amazing and our rooms looked out onto the river.
Some areas are looking a little shabby, such as bathroom and chipped furniture.
Its location by the river Thames
Property was OK.
The Location was excellent.
Paying for parking and slow service in restaurant
Superb location beside the river
The breakfast was fine but seemed excessive for the £26 charged, especially as there was a £6 supplement for dishes other than a full English
The room was large and comfortable, with twin beds and a seating area by the window. By far the best part of the hotel was the location, situated on the banks of the River Thames with a stunning view of Marlow Bridge and All Saints Church. The high street is full of upmarket shops, restaurants and pubs.
The hotel had the worst restaurant service I have ever encountered. For example, there was a 20-minute wait to be seated in a half-empty room for afternoon tea, even after we’d been warned to arrive on time. Breakfast was included in our booking, but we only went on the first day. I waited 50 minutes for coffee, which only arrived after prompting, and an hour for a cooked breakfast. Food for both meals was decidedly average. The staff are overstretched and/or undertrained, either running around like headless chickens or absent for long periods.

the location is excellent
rooms are tired , with no working air conditioning and windows screwed down so we cant open them, which i think may be illegal there was no service as such. One poor man working behind the bar as well as trying to serve drinks at a wedding at the same time . hence long queues of people waiting and getting angrry
Location, eating and sitting areas.
They are a bit slow responding to messages via booking.com and on WhatsApp. Can take days. Other than that, can’t complain.
The location is stunning.
We were surprised to be asked to pay a car parking charge of £10.00 for parking overnight as we had booked through Booking.com rather than direct with the hotel. (when booking it says that the property has private parking and does not specify at that time that a charge is payable - only if one clicks on the FAQs does that become apparent). Our room was "tired" as are the common areas. One of the lights in the bathroom directly over the mirror was not working making it difficult to apply make-up. The service in the outside bar in the garden on Friday night was incredibly slow, there being only one person serving. The breakfast was average and we were shocked to find that Avocado on toast was subject to a £6 surcharge and that speciality coffees such as lattes were subject to a £4 surcharge. We had been looking forward to our stay as the Compleat Angler has always had a good reputation and is in a stunning location, but having paid £345 for our room for one night we felt that this was extremely poor value for money and were extremely disappointed with our stay.
We paid for a deluxe room and then got invited to pay extra for an upgrade - which we did. This meant we stayed in a suite which was a fantastic room. Great view over the weir. Very comfortable and spacious.
No air con which is not surprising in an older hotel, but very hard to handle in the current heat!
Room was very nice but a bit old fashion could do with a little upgrade
Wasn't anything really
The view and location
Dirty, bad staff behavior, and bad cooling conditions.
Good size room, hotel is in great location, staff were trying hard.
No cooling in bedroom, More like a sauna. Staff very willing but clearly overwhelmed, bar and outside areas covered in used glasses, had to clear tables ourselves, queue ages for service.
The view of the river
No air conditioning
Location lovely
Disappointed with my evening meal
Great location, and very convenient to be able to moor our boat at the hotel Nice room with great view of the weir.
Air conditioning struggled with the heat (ok it was the hottest day of the year) Room was very stuffy (despite cool air seeming to come out of the vent above the wardrobe) Staff still seemed to be unable to u der stand instructions to put the freezer blocks from our boat in the freezer (as opposed to the “fridge”!)
Location
Poorly trained staff, not clean, no discipline, not customer oriented in general. I think it is a leadership problem
Lovely location
We were very disappointed in the breakfast. We waited nearly 40 minutes to get cutlery and coffee. We had to go inside to order breakfast and then the waiter forgot so we had to order it again. The food was very average and cold by the time they brought our toast. Breakfast took about 80 minutes meaning we had a mad rush to check out on time.
Great location - poor service, poor quality of hotel food at extortionate prices especially soft drinks. Service was slow waiting 40 minutes for drinks to arrive at the table. No cutlery until the dishwasher finished at the outside bar. Bedroom was noisy due to the noise from the weir constantly and peeling paint in the bathroom. No lift but no offer of help with luggage from staff despite being up 3 flights of stairs. Highlight was Sindhu.
location and staff
damp smell in corridor was very strong. fridge in room didn't work. room coul not be cooled. only one window opened, the other was held down with duct tape. Very poor maintenance and very uncomfortable in a heatwave
The property on arrival is beautiful. However the room ( 55 ) was not fit for purpose
Room 55 should not have been available on the hottest day of the year. Low ceiling, air con pumping out hot air. Smallest window. We left just after midnight as we believed it was a health hazard.
The location is amazing! Bed was comfortable. Some staff were okay with customer service.
The whole place is tired and not particularly clean. The drink selection is very limited and overpriced. The air conditioning didn't work, nor did the coffee machine or the fridge. Dead plants on our balcony. Better to have just taken them away. Very poor impression for guests. No table service on the lawn and staff reluctant to go out of their way to offer a good service. Tables not cleared. They'd run out of the drink i was after and didn't offer to fetch one from the other bar for me. I had to go myself and there was nobody there. Had to wait 20 minutes and ask for someone to come and serve us. Toilets in reception very dirty, particularly the paintwork and floors. We stayed here about 20 years ago and it was a world away from what we experienced on this occasion. Will not be returning.
Absolutely superb room with river views and balcony. Breakfast was extremely good. Staff were very hospitable. Parking was very good and complimentary with stay. Great location close to town.
We recently held a business meeting at The Compleat Angler hotel. We would like to give special recognition to Rashid who provided exceptional service throughout our event. From start to finish Rashid’s attention to detail was absolutely spot on. He anticipated our needs, ensured everything was organised and helped make our event run smoothly. Every request was met with a positive attitude and nothing was too much trouble. Rashid was a true superstar in our eyes and an outstanding ambassador for the hotel. Thank you Rashid for going above and beyond and for delivering exceptional service with such a friendly smile. We would highly recommend the hotel for business and pleasure.
Thanks om breakfast was lovely this morning will be back
The location is perfect, stunning but the staff management really let the show down, dirty table everywhere and no effort to tidy up. Rooms very small beds and tired
Dirty

Great location by the Thames, well kept property and helpful staff Excellent room with view of Thames and Marlow Bridge.
Lack of tea making facilities in our room. Charge for mooring (£40) was too high.
Lovely location, hotel is OK and rate was reasonable via Booking.com However, upon arrival, and because I had booked via Booking.com, I was charged upon arrival and extra £10 for parking my car on site, if I had booked directly, no charge is applied ............ not impressed, this was not communicated.
Room brilliant, lovely location
Very sloppy service
The breakfast was ok if we stayed again we would go out for breakfast and also dinner as the cost was expensive for what it was.
Nice meeting room equipt with everything we needed. Staff were helpful and attentive. Lunch was fine - could have been more options for vegetarians but it was nice and fresh. Would definitely re-book for another event.
Absolutely shocking that a 4-star hotel has no air conditioning! There is a device in every room that is actually an AC controller - the only issue is that none of these work. What is the point of that? Of course naturally the outside temperature was 35 degrees so we absolutely died in our room. Ironically the public areas have AC, so maybe ask if you can sleep in the bar.
I would highly recommend the Compleat Angler, whether you're planning a business event, a special occasion, or simply looking for a relaxing getaway on the Thames. We would gladly return. We recently hosted a work event at the Compleat Angler with 30 guests, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The location on the Thames is absolutely beautiful and made the event feel like a true getaway rather than a typical work function. The hotel itself has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, and every one of our guests enjoyed their stay. It's the perfect venue for a corporate event, especially during the summer months when you can fully appreciate the riverside setting. One of the highlights was taking a river cruise with Salters Steamers, who were able to moor directly on the Compleat Angler's property, making the experience seamless and memorable for our group. The staff were outstanding throughout our stay. A special thank you to Mo and Rachid, who led the support for our event. The two of them made a huge difference to the success of our event.
Travelling for work I was upgraded to a suite which was a lovely surprise with my last minute booking after being let down by another hotel. It was a beautiful room and living room - very comfortable bed and great bathroom. Lovely view of the river.
Sadly I think the hotel was let down by its restaurant. I decided to have a simple dinner there and ordered a greek salad with salmon but there was no salmon, yet I was billed for it. Drinks orders were wrong on the bill too and I had to send the bill back several times before it was correct and the service was a bit slow with probably not enough staff. I had to hang around for sometime in the bar before anyone arrived to help me. I was excited that I might have been able to have breakfast for once before work as I was told breakfast started at 7am. However at 7.10 I was told there were only the cold breakfast options as the chef hadn't arrived for the hot options yet. At 7.30 I was told he had arrived but when I asked if I could get anything in the next 10 minutes due to needing to leave for work then I was told probably not. Also the coffee was awful. Beautiful hotel but these little things ruined the experience somewhat.
Good location.
Bathroom in room very tired and dripping tap
