Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Initial room that we booked was unbelievably hot and the gentleman at reception was most accommodating and moved us to a room with a fan. Excellent breakfast, huge choice. Hotel situated in a lovely area.
Good beer on tap and great food. Excellent breakfast. Quite basic room, but comfortable.
No air-conditioning but there was a (pretty wobbly! ) fan.
This is a lovely, old fashioned pub with rooms, expanded into barns and old stables. The bar/restaurant are lovely, and the outside space is large and beautiful. Our room was great.
Nothing to complain about here!
Lovely room, generous size bathroom, perfectly clean, lovely view. Friendly staff, great quality breakfast.
Guests in next door room were noisy but hotel has no control over that.
Very good
Room was lovely Breakfast fresh and plentiful Location was perfect for us.
Dinner although tasty, portion size was small for the price
Nothing
The local beer
Lovely buildings, friendly staff, good food, comfortable, large bed
Room a little scruffy ( scuffed paint work, some crumbs on carpet), very loud shower
I was lucky enough to be upgraded, 2nd stay here comfortable beds, lovely bathrooms, a really good night's sleep
The hotel was beautiful and the staff where brilliant x
Wanted a night cap before going to bed but was told no, never mind 😒
They were VERY busy, with 2 weddings, and yet coped with us with care and thoughtfulness. Given such 'mass-catering' at this w/e they coped very well, and breakfast was fine...and with the range of food on offer was good value..
We did unfortunately have to complain about a steak, that was barely edible,...and they compensated for that; the problem was not the chef/kitchen, it was, their supplier, and they had already had similar complaints. This was our first meal there, and that was unfortunate, especially as this meal for my wife was marking part of our diamond-wedding celebrations.
Bed, excellent; breakfast very good; room very good; parking excellent; service from staff excellent.
Restaurant - steak meal not good value - poor veg and meat overcooked (but discount given when these points were raised with the staff)
The location was great ,staff friendly, and helpful .Restuerant clean and well organised fabulous breakfast choices
Limited dinner/lunch menu, Our room wasn't as clean as I would have liked just a bit grubby and worn.
The place was amazing. Full of history, nice people, magical village. We were with a wheelchair and we got a fully accessible room, everyone was helpful. It was our best stay in UK
Nydelig gammel kro/hotell med hyggelig personale, fin hage, god frokost og hyggelig stemning 😀
Ikke rent nok bad til denne standarden.
Breakfast selection was really good, croissants, toast, juices 4 different kinds, cold meats and salmon, cereals, yogurt, tea and coffee and of course the option for a full English, I asked for my egg to be done in a particular way and it arrived perfect, just how I wanted it, big thank you to Monday breakfast chef.
Nothing, we had a lovely stay, unless you can control the weather, it rained all day Tuesday
The area it was nice
The cleanness wasn’t clean for what I paid I am not happy my feet were black after coming out of the shower dust dirt cobwebs
Fabulous location, great old building and lots of annexes. Full food menu, breakfast was varied.
Only minor fault was the cleanliness of the room 55, and no beside lamps.
It's an amazing hotel with a fantastic history and beautiful traditional features. But this is paired with modern amenities. Everyone at the hotel is really friendly and makes every effort to make your stay special Making it a perfect stay!
Nothing
Location
Room was in bell house overlooking wall and bins
Very cool pub. The bed was huge and amazing! It had tea available and the breakfast could not have been better. It was very good and tons of hot and cold options. Parking is free and easy. Hurley is a quiet little village on the Thames and sits between Marlow and Henley. Nice to come back to. You really need a car though.
I only wish it had a fridge.
Nice location ideal for our event.
Bit dated rooms needed to be updated and some time spent to bring standard up.
It was easy to find very impressive building when you stand there look at it. The room was very comfortable and clean. The food is excellent. I would say value for money.
There was nothing I didn’t like about my stay
Breakfast very good & restaurant meals too .
Arrived at a very busy time so staff obviously stretched . Wedding event on site . However , staff were still welcoming & helped to make my stay good .
I found the whole complex of buildings really interesting and wish I could have stayed more than just a night.
A room with modern decor perhaps could have had USB plug.
Location
Bedroom tired and not clean particularlly toilet. Pillows floppy and proved useless without headboard and gap to wall. Mattress not confortable. No clothes hangers or wardrobe. Just 4 pegs. Quoted 2 different prices for breakfast - 3rd price on website! Breakfast poor quality and not hot - sticky tables in dining room . Facilities generally very tired and in need of refurbishment - accepting it is a very old building. Cerfainly poor value for money compared with other options..
The room and the premises has a nice ambience and decor.
It was scorching hot, almost impossible to sleep, although they didn't provide a fan. It's definitely a place about fit for hot days
The staff were extremely helpful and the dinner was very good
The breakfast was average and the accommodation is desperate for a complete overhaul, grubby carpets, rusty radiators, broken showers, worn out door locks
The staff were wonderful, the gardens were beautiful. The hotel was a bit of a maze because it was so old but the history was amazing.
Good location & quiet
Room very dirty, dust & cobwebs everywhere, broken glass on floor near the kettle. All the surfaces in room and in restaurant area were very sticky and just looked very tired and unclean
we had a top floor room , it was so hot , there was no aircon and not even a fan in the room. you open a window and it sounds like a car is coming through ur bedroom. As hotel is right in road. unfortunately did not sleep at all. def needs Airton in those rooms as you can't open windows
Location was good for Marlow and Henley. There was some entertainment in the beer garden on the weekend.
Breakfast wasn’t as good as the last time we stayed.
Excellent room, beautiful surroundings and friendly staff
The inn was full of history, from the enormous door, the oak beams and the stupendous great dining hall. Our room was spacious and the bed was huge and extremely comfortable. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was superb - plenty of choice for the continental option and the cooked breakfast was hot, fresh and plentiful.
Dinner. My sirloin steak was not well-cooked. It was grey and unappetising, rather dry and lacked the crust from a good char-grill. It was served with one watery mushroom, half a tomato and some rather dry and boring chips. My husband si meal, in contrast, was well-cooked, so clearly I was unlucky in my choice pf food!
Breakfast was good, plenty of continental and hot options.Good parking. Lovely old inn . Staff worked hard ,but there were few of them.
Evening meal wasn't very good and was overpriced for what it was. No headboard on the bed . Water pressure in shower too low,and lots of limescale on the pipes .
The location as always is beautiful. The girls in the restaurant on the Sunday night were really under pressure. Many diners hadn’t received their meals after 55 minutes plus, of ordering so they were trying to deal with it and were really polite and friendly. We just felt bad for them as the restaurant wasn’t even full. Apparently the issues were in the kitchen.
Unfortunately, the breakfast wasn’t good. So much so, we didn’t stay for it on our second day. We’ve been here many times before and since it’s been owned by Best Western, the personal feel and standards have dropped which is a shame. The scrambled egg was served as big hard lumps, the mushrooms were shriveled and dry and the tomatoes just didn’t taste of anything. The radiator in our room was rusty and the tap was covered in limescale. It never used to be like this.
Very friendly and accommodating and lots of quirky features. Was lucky to have a bridal suite which was HUGE!!!
Just felt like it needed a fresh lick of paint in some parts
large room
some noise from garden and toilets adjoining
Great pub . Great food . Great staff Well worth staying
Location
All good
Ancient inn with nice beery bar. (Possibly oldest in the country) Huge rambling gardens.
Generous breakfast- but please don’t overcook the scrambled eggs. Please reduce volume of musak outside.
Nice place and garden
Food could be better
Great location, and duty manager v friendly
Tired rooms. Carpet very worn through. Could do with a spruce up
Friendly staff and good location
Room poor - unclean, lacked facilities, fittings broken/worn. Highly excessive charge for dogs (£20 per dog/night ) - nothing provided to facilitate a pet stay ie no dog bowls/treats/bedding. No proper dog bins. Breakfast continental buffet was ok, but English breakfast was poor. Although breakfast was included in tariff there was an extra charge fior items like eggs Benedict. Dog friendly eating area (bar) was a distance from the food making it awkward for service.
Comfortable bed, spacious room and good breakfast. Friendly staff went out of their way to assist
Rooms were over pub so we're noisy until 11pm and then cleaning staff made noise until 11 30pm
I do so love this hotel over the years have stayed many times
The buffet breakfast wasn't great tbh ...the whole breakfast experience cpuld be better ..having coffee out of machine not nice eggs weren't hot just felt like a cheap carvery... room ok wasn't clean and mattress could have been better I will not divulge it that
Been before so knew it was good
.ore comfy beds
Lovely room within main hotel building, spacious and comfortable, large bathroom with walk in shower. Tea & coffee with shortbread biscuits. Breakfast cost extra (£12 if booked the day before or £15 in the morning) but had lots of hot food plus continental style cold cuts. Nice walk from the hotel to the riverside, walked over the bridge to the lock. Hurley is a short drive to Henley. Didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, but have done before and the food is good (better food than the other pub in Hurley!). Free parking, leave your car reg with reception.
Nothing, all good
Character
No where to sit comfortable in the bar. Restaurant very basic had to ask for cutlery.had the steak. 1/2 a mushroom not great breakfast was the same very unorganised
The staff were friendly and professional.
Great location for visiting friends
Very good selection for breakfast.
The very hot bedroom, but we did have a fan.
We loved the character and the outside terrace including the bar inside the hotel
There was nothing to dislike
The location was perfect as we were attending the Regatta, so a short walk from the river. The staff were 5 star, especially the man who sorted breakfast and covered reception. He was so friendly and helpful. Nothing was to much to ask.
The rooms were too hot. The price you were paying you would expect A/C.
The room was spacious and perfect for our needs. The staff were so attentive, friendly and accommodating and the food was excellent. We also loved the tennis court!
Spacious room and comfortable bed. Overall a clean room. Lovely pub and beer garden in a traditional village.
Our room was in the old Malt House, on the top floor and understandably on a hot day it was boiling, so in such scenarios, management should consider having a portable AC unit at hand. Only a little thing, although the bathroom was spotless clean, but in the shower unit, there was a little shelf which looked like it hadnt seen some detergent for some time and looked grey green in the grooves, which was a bit off putting when washing one self.
Location
Lovely village
What a grotty hotel. I've stayed in many hotels worldwide, and you can always tell whether the owners have a passion for providing hospitality - sadly, this owner does not. On arrival, there is no clear signage indicating where to check in, and it was obvious that the main bar and reception area had seen better days. I was staying 3 nights and was told that the rooms were not serviced unless you asked for them to be the night before - apparently this is due to their 'environmental policy' - not really sure how not making up your bed or refreshing tea and coffee affects the environment, but hey ho. On the second night I asked for the towels to be replaced the following morning but when i got back in the evening all of the wet towels I had used to mop up the water that had leaked from the shower were still dumped on the floor and there were no fresh towels. The room itself had also seen better days - stained carpet and looked like the whole room needed updating - dirty marks on doors, blind immediately to the right of door was broken and couldn't be opened, dusty dirty skirting boards and the room smelt - housekeeping definitely needs some more training! The shower in the bathroom was tiny, and I had been put in a disabled room, so most of the shower was taken up by a seat in the shower. I'd obviously been put in here because they were full - there was a wedding reception going on that evening which was apparent due to the loud music blasting out until midnight - I was not informed of this when I booked - there was also a wedding taking place on the following night as well and the music blasted out until 12 again. There is no extraction fan in the bathroom or window, so I had to open the window in the bedroom and leave the bathroom door open to air out after shower and other things one does in the morning! I had a meal in the bar with my aunt and uncle on the first night, the service was slow, and the food was average and overpriced.
Location & character
Lack of food at breakfast. Staff were lovely but despite a busy regatta weekend there didn't seem to be many stuff and seemed overwhelmed by requests for food & drink
Arrived at breakfast to be greeted by, " we have been advised that we have to stop serving breakfast due to a large lunch party'. Hot cooked breakfast was empty. We spoke to the waiter who offered us something from the menu that was at an additional cost but said there would be no charge. Which was the least that could be offered. We expected the breakfast to be better.
Room looked tired and breakfast was not any better, was not impressed with our stay at this hotel.
Excellent breakfast, full English had a good choice
Can't think
The hotel is full of character in a lovely location. The room was big and spacious and nicely decorated.
Good working WiFi Great location Friendly and helpful staff Great local pub
Furniture was stained Carpet smelt of vomit
Lovely spit and staff are excellent, it's tired in part hence not a 10 bit welcome always good and genuine
Bit tired
Friendly helpful staff
EVERYTHING! ESPECIALLY MY ROOM!!!
NOTHING!
Nothing to like, it was our wedding anniversary and we were badly let down. I note from other reviews, someone got a free upgrade to our room on the night we had booked, while we got downgraded.....
We were down graded, promised a refund of the difference, they said they had contacted us to tell us. Later they admitted they couldn't have as they had no contact details for us as booked via booking.com.
Staff were helpful
It was tired and felt neglected. Bedroom could be modernised bathroom felt old and tired carpet stained All required a good renovation
Very quiet
Sign posting to find room
The location was excellent, the room very comfortable. The bar was friendly and the Rebellion Ale a treat.
We were unlucky to hit the breakfast buffet in between re-supplies. It was nice, but the eggs a bit over-done.
Beautiful building, lovely location
Room was a bit tired, could do with a bit of a deep clean as behind bed all dusty and no headboard on bed which made it difficult to sit up in bed without the pillows disappearing down the back , which as I mentioned was very dusty
Location near river
Dirty , cobwebs everywhere In the room , mold on ceiling , dusty place Breakfast was awful
Full of charm and history. Great location and short drive from Henley on Thames and Marlow. Fantastic/large room following free upgrade (thank you). Loved all the period features in hotel as well as the atmosphere in the garden area. Would come again and recommend to others.
Great stay but I’m used to softer bed (but just my preference). Still slept ok though.
Location
Seemed scruffy and in need of refurbishing in places
Well located for a wedding we were attending. Friendly staff, clean and service was good.
Our room was next to the road, traffic in the morning was loud.
Lovely room and air conditioning a bonus in the warm weather
My steak was flavoursome but I asked for it very rare and it came out medium xx I ate it all as the beef used was good quality. Would try again.
Garden and pub
A bit hot
The location and our room was under a shady tree which was great.
Booking in time is 3 pm but our room wasn’t ready until 3.50pm. A bit disappointed.
It’s character, charm & garden space.
The place is a delight
Everything went well although it was very hot in the room.
Bathroom was a bit antiquated but still ok
We loved the location, the general feel of the main property, good old style inn added to over the years. Large garden area, plenty of tables and much needed sun shades and lovely walled garden too producing veg. Food was tasty and food choice. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking. Lots to see nearby.
Just a few small touches could make it even better… condiments were limited in the restaurant and limited choice of alcohol free drinks. Note that housekeeping do not visit room during the two night stay but we were happily given extra tea and coffee items at reception.
excellent location in historic riverside village with easy access to Thames path. Great breakfast and service
Our room comfortable and functional but could have had more welcoming features lacking e.g. pictures, full length mirror, coat hangars.
Convenience. Staff. Breakfast.
The bed gave me a terrible back ache in the morning
Room was lovely and clean, up to date bathroom which was lovely. Tea and coffee in the room. We stayed after a friend's wedding as the staff were lovely
The breakfast was a little slow to be replenished, sauces were nowhere to be seen but otherwise a lovely a spread.
The property whilst in need of refurbishment has character
See above
Lovely old pub, nice location
Rooms were not in the pub but were i. A 70's bungalow over the road
A lovely old country pub set in rural area
Drinks a little pricey
Beautiful location and walking distance to the wedding venue we were heading to
Room was so hot. Windows didn't open fully and felt quite budget for the price. Breakfast was good. Lots of choice. Beautiful grounds.
Location and the actual building was v good
The room only had one fan on a stand and the room was very hot. Terrible nights sleep.
Old style inn and pub
Dated
Bedroom was nice. Decor was nice. Location was great. Really quiet
Breakfast and food wasn’t great. Scrambled eggs were overdone and I got broccoli with my main dinner on the evening of arrival and it wasn’t fresh.
Excellent location, lovely quiet village, superbly resorted buildings, super spacious room, wonderful staff and great food to be enjoyed in the garden area. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
It’s charm! Dominic at reception and the bar was most helpful and very friendly. We had a lovely big room overlooking the gardens.
The table at breakfast was sticky, the glasses and cups were stuck to it. I think in some of the general areas it could be cleaner ie toilets off the breakfast room, the top of the sink didn’t feel as though it had been wiped in a while! Our room was fine though. The breakfast was good but the bacon looked re-heated, it wasnt great when it was in the self serve buffet on the 1st morning , but was worse when ordered fresh on the 2nd.
Spacious room and on suite. Beautiful gardens . Historic property with interesting rooms. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good location and peaceful.
Hair in bath plug hole. Limited Vegetarian options on menu. Some vegetarian stuff on menu not available.
The value for money is really good, the hotel is also different than the usual hotels and it makes for a good stay. Very good options for breakfast.
Rooms were a bit too hot (July). No clothes hangers in the room.
Very little. The room wasn't particularly clean. The room was very large with one bed in it yet the hotel offers no twin rooms when a room of this size could easily accommodate two beds.
Cleanliness and I thought it wasn't very good value for money. I was not offered breakfast when I checked in.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room - room 8 - was well appointed with a stand alone bath and a walk-in shower, fantastic! It was also air conditioned, very nice on a hot day. Buffet breakfast had a great selection, something for everyone, and great quality. The ;location was great for us, we had a wedding nearby, and Marlow has a great High Street.
Only minor things: The carpet at the bottom of the stairs needs to be repaired; toilets near the restaurant need updating. Nothing that would stop us coming again, the staff actually make the place great with their friendly helpfullness.
