Location and price
Parking cost
The room was not very clean, lipstick left under the bed. Earing left on dressing-table. Only one pillow on bed, only one set of towels in room - had to ask for second set of towels and pillow.
A clean house located near the train station—perfect for sightseeing. Everything is proceeding smoothly.
Brilliant location, very central. A little noisy at night. Lovely staff.
Location was excellent
Parking fee in addition to room. Cost
I didn’t like anything except location. Very dated, restaurant was closed, horrid lemony smell (chemical), everywhere, loo was hard to flush, uncomfortable pillows. I felt I had stepped back about 40 or 50 years
I disliked everything except the location
Location
Nothing
Fabulous central location and friendly staff
Good location in the town centre
Dated decor, chipped bathroom sink, stained bath, Breakfast was awful with cold food, poor selection , had to ask multiple times for cups, bread, more hot food , milk, broken coffee machine that over spilt as cups not large enough for automatic dispenser
Mostly clean, comfortable and very close to town centre. Able to book in early which was unexpected. Staff helpful.
Room was lovely but pillows were a bit stained. No mattress or pillow protectors which is the norm in most hotels. Wooden headboards very dusty.
Pretty dated hotel and the parking was expensive charge on top of the hotel payment
Parking
Position
Very dated
Mainly the convenient situation of the hotel, right in the heart of the city.
Nothing
Central. Storage for bikes. Staff helpful.
Noise outside in night and from next room.
Superb location
Noisy construction work going on outside ALL NIGHT Admittedly not their fault but should have been subject to formal complaint Angle grinders cutting concrete after midnight in a city centre!!
Location at the heart of Winchester Very clean. Very welcoming and helpful staff, especially with my friend in a wheelchair. Beds extremely comfortable. Magdalena was an absolute star resolving an issue on arrival and took time to talk to us and recommend places to visit. Just be aware that disabled access is at the rear but there is parking there too.
Breakfast mediocre, first morning everything was lukewarm but second day it was hotter. Would’ve liked a wider choice. Coffee machine didn’t work at all, awaiting repair
Top location
Really disappointing breakfast for which we paid extra, very poor value for money.
Bed comfortable
Bathroom floor and its wooden threshold were dangerously slippy. There was no tea in the room and room service didn't answer the phone. It was noisy The standard lamp didn't work
Location is difficult to beat
Sink in room had not been cleaned. They only put towels out for one person. Reception never manned and people were allowed to just walk in without challenge.
The best thing was the bed and location
hotel rooms and furniture is so outdated and carpets It’s a shame. With just a little money invested would be better, not even a complimentary water in the room in executive suite (which is no different for a normal room)
Das Hotel liegt an der Kathedrale, ist also leicht zu finden. Die Zimmer sind sauber und recht groß. Was will man mehr? Relativ günstig parken kann man auch auf dem Friarsgate Carpark in der Tanner Street. Von dort sind es nur gut 100 m zum Hotel.
Rooms were alright. I had a good night sleep
Breakfast was terrible. Coffeemachine out of order. Only instant coffee. I didnt see any eggs either with a full english breakfast
The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was amazing, our room looked out at the cathedral.
NA
clean, comfortable property
The room was spacious and had armchairs so we didn't have to sit on the bed. There was a small sofa bed which was very uncomfortable to sit on so we moved the furniture around so we could use the armchairs in the evening.
The fridge was in need of a good clean, it looked like no one had checked it, we found water bottles from the previous occupants in it. We had a noise problem on the first night; our first floor room was over the footpath that runs alongside the cathedral grounds. The bar man stepped outside to smoke and make phone calls. He was standing under our window and being very loud. Once we worked out that the source of the noise wasn't passersby my husband went and had a word at reception and we were not disturbed again.
Great location. Hotel comfortable but a bit dated.
Paying for parking, this used to be free for hotel guests. Also need to get air conditioning (it’s 2026 not 1966)
We got upgraded for free to a room with a beautiful view of the cathedral. The room had a large bathroom, living room area and four poster bed. Absolutely stunning!
The facilities and the bedroom
Breakfast too expensive. Hot plate below standard for hot meal. Sausage over cooked. For the price we pay no variety
Very nice. Close to festival. I liked that there was a hair dryer
Nothing rlly
The reception team were very welcoming and professional. Our room was upgraded as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary (not necessary, or requested but it was a lovely gesture, which we appreciated). The room had a lovely view across to the Cathedral. It was very quiet, even though we were in the centre of Winchester.
When we were leaving the hotel there was a chap (a guest at the hotel?) sat on the steps outside the door smoking. It was very unpleasant having to walk past him. Perhaps the hotel should stipulate a no smoking zone around the entrance.
Location parking good
The location, car parking available. Fridge in room and tea/coffee in room. Plenty of towels. Comfortable bed. Price reasonable
The furniture was old, the bathroom was not clean with mould above the shower. The lifts were dirty with litter. Parking very tight spaces and expensive. It would have been forgivable had it not been for the receptionist. The experience we had was the worst we have had anywhere in the world. We arrived as a married couple. The staff member made it very clear he would not talk to, or make eye contact with a woman. I noted the same thing happened with the couple that arrived after us. A worse experience than anything we have seen in the Middle East or Asia. Never again.
The property needs total refurbishment. Very poor standard.
As above
The room was comfortable and spacious with an excellent view of the cathedral, with the added bonus of being able to hear the choir we had come to see warm up! The fridge was an unexpected but very welcome inclusion.
A fan that was supposed to have been there was not, which would have made a hot night more comfortable - as would an alternative light sheet instead of a warm quilt.
Établissement vieillot, a besoin d être rafraîchit, lit trop vieux
Pas de climatisation chambre très chaude malgré la fenêtre ouverte
The hotel that looks nothing like the photos biggest catfish of a hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Bed was awful and uncomfortable carpets ripped and raised holes int he ceiling , and dirty bedding , their only positive was the staff who were polite and helpful and when we finally got to leave the next day.

Location is great. A minute’s walk to the Main Street.
Room was dated, hot and the sink was blocked on our arrival.
Location
No air con. Very expensive for size of room & quality. Felt tired Dangerously slippy bathroom floor!!
The best thing about the hotel is that it is very central. Otherwise, it was fine, nothing particularly bad but nothing particularly excellent either. The staff were very friendly.
The standard of decoration was at best average (the rooms) and in some areas (corridors etc) it definitely needed improvement. Despite booking many months ahead of time, we were given rooms that faced out onto the street rather than facing the Cathedral. The problem with street-facing rooms is that the street is where lorry’s load and unload for shops on the (pedestrianised) High Street, which means there’s plenty of noise outside from quite early in the morning (4 am onwards). We didn’t have breakfast in the hotel as it didn’t look particularly appetising.
The only thing going for this hotel is the location. Nothing else could be praised
The staff were unwelcoming, abrupt almost rude and most unhelpful. They seemed inexperienced and untrained and uncomfortable at check in and dismissive at check out The room was tired dark and dusty. The wallpaper above the bed was thick with dust and when we turned on the pathetic desk fan provided more dust flew around the room and out of the fan The carpets were grim. The bathroom was tired and basic and although soap was provided it was a stretch away from the sink There was no fridge, but 2 warm bottles of water had been added due to the heat. There were only 2 pillows on the bed The hallway was dirty and dark and in line with the room in desperate need of cleaning and decorating Nothing about the hotel decor or staff was welcoming and despite having a broken foot and rather a lot of luggage no member of staff offered us any help at all during check in or check out. And when we were issued our room key we were told nothing about WiFi or breakfast or any other facilities. We were told our room was near the lifts, this was untrue, it was at the farthest end of the corridor. And the parking is truly ridiculous - the spaces marked cannot fit cars. Our friends stayed in the travelodge next door and I wish we had too. This hotel really used to be great and understand how to provide great service but it appears those days are firmly gone.
Staff tried hard in challenging circumstances
Very overpriced for what it is. Furniture in room was tired and sofa was dusty and dirty. Bathroom felt grubby. Breakfast disappointing. Simply cannot recommend. Car parking spaces very tight and pricey too.
Location.
Paid four star price for one star hotel. Only continental breakfast available first morning - not a croissant in sight, orange squash not fresh orange juice, instant coffee from a jar, manky fruit, only people for first breakfast and first night in the bar - soulless. Stained bath and toilet.
Staff were pleasant and efficient. My room had a view of the cathedral. Bed was clean and comfortable. Complimentary `bottled water was a nice touch in view of the hot weather.
The decor, furniture and fittings were rather "tired" (but everything worked).
No breakfast all good
All good thank you
The location is great
Its old, dated, looks dirty because of the carpets and furniture being so old. My sink was blocked, had to pump the toilet handle so it would flush. Just over all a poor hotel and definitely not value for money.
room was not cleaned on Wednesday, our 2nd day. We were only told AFTER we complained that we needed to alert the desk/ reception if we wanted housekeeping. Even Premier Inn's do better than this and at a much lower price-point. We asked for compensation but were told we could only get this through Booking.com since we did not book directly with the Hotel. Advice please. Hotel is NOT suitable for people with disabilities. One of us is in a wheelchair and has very limited mobility. The lifts are too small for a wheelchair and can only be operational if the wheelchair user can manipulate the wheelchair toward the side so a lot of shunting back-and forth was required to allow the lift door to close and operate.
Lovely central location
I booked the suite to take my mother away for a few days on a trip. The room was overlooking a new Travellodge. It was extremely noisy with recycling and deliveries from 5.30 in the morning., therefore it was not a relaxing break. It was hot and the air conditioning in the bedroom leaked water all over my mother's suitcase. This was not mended despite being reported to reception.
Location
Reception: Reception button to get attention - did not work. Lifts were either worked or were out of order. Corridors to rooms: Carpets were filthy and worn and the air was stale and humid Room was relatively better with air con which you could control. Room had no Hotel guide or tv instructions. Buffet breakfast was poor and if you expected a warm breakfast forget it. While I was there, there was no hot water for tea until a day requested it. Decor over the hotel is dirty and sin need of re decorating. This hotel is in a prime location. I have stayed here on numerous occasions over the past few years and can say that for such a location this hotel does not deserve a four star status it has had previously. I I have stayed in other four star status hotels. I internationally and in the UK and given this is in Winchester with comparable four star status Hotels this hotel cannot justify its status. The staff appear to be disalusioned.
Great location
Noise from bottles being dropped into bin
The location of the hotel is perfect - a few minutes walk to the station and next to the shops. The reception and bar area is modern.
The room was ok. The toilet pan and sink were stained. Bathroom was tired. The hotel is tired and in need of a refurb. The breakfast was minimal and not of great quality. Definitely not worth £14 per head for a hot buffet breakfast. The toasters were old & took ages for the bread to toast. You would be better off walking to the town centre as there are lots of cafes to choose from. The car park is very small and not big enough to fit the average car in the spaces however there is a public car park across the road at a cost of £19 for 24 hours.
Staff were helpful
Room was very small, dated and dirty (very dusty).
Great location - lovely staff
Double bed was small
Staff were really helpful despite a power cut and issues with systems
The room was small with no air con. A fan was provided but it was noisy. The corridors decor was old and poor with ripped carpets.
Its location.
It was run down. The shower leaked. There was used chewing gum in the bedside cabinet. We paid for an upgrade which should have included complimentary sleeps, didn’t have these, a fridge, this was just plonked in the room, coffee machine, the mugs didn’t fit the machine. We were supposed to have a view of the Cathedral, this was blocked by trees.
I rang up a week before to request an air-con room and was told it had been sorted, only to arrive and be told there was nothing on the booking. Got it sorted in the end.
Central
Just needed a hover in the hallway and entrance, and cigarette buts outside the entrance door.
Comfortable and amazing location
Warn, however the whole country was warm!! But no air con
The front of house manager and the beautiful stained glass light wall by John Piper
Hotel was tired and dated carpets repaired with grey tape wall coverings damaged the rooms were dated there were no power sockets next to our beds No aircon they charged us £145 room only and then wanted another £15 for car parking. absolute racket
Está en el mismo centro de Winchester, mejor imposible . Para ir de formación y trabajo que es a lo que fui , está genial .
El desayuno es muy básico, yo porque siempre iba con prisa pero el desayuno no merece la pena pagarlo.
The communal areas where great, looked and felt great. Everyone outside the hotel room was nice
It was one of the hottest days and the room was an oven. No air-conditioning available. There was a fridge but it was hot to the touch inside. I asked the staff to change it but was told it was brand new. When I pointed out that a new fridge would not be so dirty, I was asked to bring my bottles of water to the kitchen area where there is a fridge that everyone has access too. Dye to the lack of food safety in that area, I had to decline. Not sure how people who were elderly would have managed. More care and attention is needed while cleaning the room. Bathroom really needs attention by a cleaning team using cleaning cloths not toilet paper to clean bathroom areas.
N/A
Cleaner room, no air con only a fan... bed not comfortable
Many stays here due to location, comfort.
Restaurant and bar useless.
Location
Bathroom dirty. The shelf under mirror i could write "dirty" in, as it was think was dust or dried toothpaste. Extractor fan in Bathroom working. LIGHTING FITTING LOOKED LIJE DAMP ISSUE. At breakfast I asked for and got a full refund for my £14.25. Because I had to complain to the waiter and then to the receptionist that that was no hot water fir making tea or coffee. I was told maintenance man had been called. I had to tell both the waiter and receptionist to get a kettle from a room ,( there must be over 300 kettles in the building). so we the guest could make our own coffee and tea. Which eventually happened. No air-con just a noisy fan. Which had to be turned off.
Location
Completely run down in need of some serious money spending on it, no aircon, bedroom was unbelievably hot so barely slept.
No tea or coffee in room no air conditioning no fans
Reception staff were very hard to find
The bedroom air-conditioning was very quiet and effective
Close to everything that we needed. Was staying for the weekend. Reception staff were polite.
Settee in room had a tear on the arm. Dripping water tap. Thick dust behind behind bed which we had to move to make 2 singles. And thick dust on pictures and tv toilet dirty..
Absolutely nothing. It looks old and tired.
They overbooked my hotel and cancelled my and my colleague’s rooms when we arrived at 8pm without prior notification, leaving a poor receptionist to deal with disgruntled guests. I did not raise my voice once but she still ended up in tears, telling me I couldn’t speak to her manager as he wasn’t taking calls. Absolutely appalling service and appalling way to treat staff
Old style charm
Room was like a sauna all night, no cooling, windows opened a crack. Baked. Then to discover breakfast ' available' doesn't mean included
Cercanía a la catedral y al centro . Tenía parking
Habitación sin aire acondicionado. No había botellas de agua ni heladera en la habitación.
Proximity to centre of city
Very outdated rooms needing a huge update. The first night I was in an old Room. Hottest night of the year. No aircon. Fans in the room but no sockets at the bedside so had to get extension lead. Turned on the fan and showered with dust. Bathroom looked dirty. Toilet looked soiled even though it wasn’t. Poor lighting. Luckily a very nice man called Steve listened to me and the next day arranged a new room with aircon. If not for that i would have left and looked for a new hotel. Breakfast very poor quality food
Good location
Bath had a burn on it, rooms looking dated and tired
Close to shops and cathedral, very nice staff. Also, nice breakfast and shower.
Bed was really uncomfortable, big dip in the mattress and woke up with neck and back pains the following morning. There was no air conditioning in rooms or in hotel which meant most of the beers weren’t running as pipes got too hot.
was given a small bed next to a wall a disabled wife. receptionist not very help did not understand the problem.
Add advised what the room was like on first booking .I would have never have booked the room if i had know how small it was going to be
I had two rooms booked and fully paid for on May 24 for one night. When we arrived, we were told the hotel was overbooked and there were no rooms available for us. This was extremely frustrating, especially since our reservation had already been confirmed and paid in full. What is even more disappointing is that Booking.com has been trying to contact the hotel to confirm that we were unable to stay there, but the hotel has still not responded. This level of communication is highly unprofessional and has unnecessarily delayed the resolution of the issue. Overall, this was a very poor experience. Overbooking can happen, but the way the situation has been handled afterwards, with no response to Booking.com and no accountability, is unacceptable. I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience.
Nagyon jó a szálloda elhelyezkedése, központban van, de mégis nyugodt, csendes.
Olyan nincs.
It's so close to the city center, everything you need is on your doorstep
There was nothing to not to like
Great location and parking available
Somewhat lacking in atmosphere.
The location of this hotel is great! The views of the cathedral and proximity to the town is wonderful.
The rooms are tired and dated. On a very hot day the fans supplied in the rooms were inadequate in dealing with the heat. I expected air conditioning in a four star hotel and it was only installed in some rooms and I think this needs to be stated clearly on adverts which rooms have it or not. The fabric of the hotel is tired and dated and some areas of the restaurant were not tidied away even by the afternoon when I looked in to check cleanliness. Generally the bedding was clean but my duvet cover had a large rip in it and was changed the next day. Overall, I was completely dissatisfied with the accommodation and ended up having to share with a friend in a twin room yet both of us still had to pay for a double room each which came to over £800.00 for two nights! The venue refused to give any refund which meant we paid over £800.00 for two nights in a twin room and even the receptionist admitted that we had paid too much!
Before booking I checked the property had a lift. On arrival I discovered it doesn't service all rooms. I was expected to climb stairs to reach my room, I can't climb stairs so had to be allocated a different room. This took a while, the receptionist said I should have said I can't climb stairs when I booked! To reach my new room I had to struggle up 4 steps. Although the room had a fan it was incredibly hot. Outside was VERY noisy. Next year I'll choose a different hotel.
Location is ideally central and with a Prestige Room + Cathedral view the spacious room was very quiet and peaceful.
I had to pay £30 to upgrade to get air con and Cathedral view - despite heatwave so not good value for money. More reception staff needed: not acceptable to have only 1 member of staff on duty who was impressive in trying to sort out a Japanese group of 4 with a complicated query about booking in, while I had to wait for some time.
Good location Helpful with secure site for bikes
Terrible breakfast Fawlty Towersesqe
Bed was comfortable and breakfast was ok. Great location
Toe nail clips on floor, dirty shower head, stains on carpet and generally needs some maintenance and updating
The air conditioned room (Deluxe Suite) was delightful, especially as we were in the middle of a heatwave - worth every extra pound charged. I understood from discussions at breakfast that not all rooms have air con, but it's worth paying for. The room was clean, well maintained and the bed was comfortable. The location of the hotel was ideal for visiting Winchester sights and for the start of the South Downs Way. Overall good value for money.
Breakfast was a disaster area. No food at 7am, no hot drinks, few glasses, little bread, no butter, no fresh fruit. However, the hotel recognised this and refunded the cost of the breakfast, even though some food started to emerge from 7:15 and coffee from about 7:30. Any hotel can have disasters but the important thing is how they deal with it and they dealt with it well, as the offer of a full refund was made before any complaint was raised, so well done. Most guests saw the funny side of the situation.
Location is superb. Parking convenient but a bit expensive.
Breakfast was dreadful and dining area filthy. First day the coffee machine didn’t work and took ages to fix. But the second day the breakfast foods had been there since the day before and we were told they were doing breakfast from the menu and when it arrived it was cold and not properly cooked. Bear in mind there was only us and one other couple and they were also bitterly disappointed. The whole hotel wasn’t clean (a big toenail was on the carpet in the hall the whole time and crumbs and hair everywhere. Attitude of staff was not good and I overheard them complaining about how bad the hotel is. Not their fault though. Where’s the management?
The bar and restaurant is very modern and had a good vibe
The bedroom whilst clean was a bit dated
Nothing
Nothing g
Great location, beautiful view of the cathedral and onsite parking.
Dated decor, bathroom had a musty damp smell. Taped down carpet as you walk through the hotel. Dusty social areas. Poorly lit corridors. Dirty Stained carpet. Really stuffy and hot rooms. Limited amount of plug sockets that actually worked. Poor water pressure. We stayed for 2 days. When we arrived there were dirty sheets on the floor outside the function rooms- they were still in the same place when we left.
Location
Breakfast was late and poorly organised. No AC in rooms.
Very nice room with a great view of the cathedral. Excellent covered parking at reasonable prices.
The room was very hot in what was an extreme heatwave, due to not having air conditioning. We were also very disappointed to be told that the breakfast we had booked had been cancelled due to the hotel 'having run out of food', which to be honest we didn't believe at all and thought it had more likely been due to the heatwave at the time, possibly staff not wanting to work? This caused us great inconvenience as we were travelling on from the hotel that day and had to miss breakfast.
Nothing
Filthy everywhere, snots wiped on bedroom wall, hair in bath drain etc. Staff attitude disgusting, unable to provide ice, glasses or anything else.
Clean Sheets
We felt like we were intruding. Staff were unhelpful. Hotel was shabby and could do with a good hoover.
Lovely hotel in a great location.
The location was beautiful. The receptionist was lovely. She made us feel at home.
The beds are incredibly uncomfortable. There were no mattress protectors on the bed. To be honest, maybe the manager should sleep in each room of his hotel. The couch had a cut on the armrest and was not comfortable at all. I have pictures if you need them. This was the second time we stayed here, and I'm not sure we will again. The hotel is tired and seriously needs a revamp.
Location, comfy big bed
Room looking tired and old fashioned, poor shower pressure, no air con, issue with light switches fior lights in bathroom.
Breakfast was fine but I would have preferred wholegrain bread.
Nothing to say.
The location.
The hotel is very tired. It is in need of a refurbishment.
Breakfast was very poor. Food not hot.
