Excellent stay from start to finish
Parking was limited but the staff helped move our car when a space became available
Great location and a traditional pub steeped in history. Could spend days looking at the wall art and artefacts.
Bathroom had a restricted height. Bed sheets did not fit.
The food was excellent….way beyond our expectations. Our waitress in the dining room was excellent. She was totally pleasant at all times, helpful, and efficient. We left a positive report in the visitors’ book on the first floor.
The car park was cramped but there was just enough room and parking was free. There was no lift for our suitcases but a male member of staff took control and insisted upon carrying our cases upstairs for us. The hotel was only a short flat walk from all major attractions including the cathedral, the college, and the High Street.
Central location
Nothing
Fantastic rooms in the heart of historic Winchester
Hervorragend es Frühstück und gute moderne Küche. Nahe bei der Kathedrale und Innenstadt, dennoch ziemlich ruhig.
Camera affascinante in ottima posizione. Colazione e cena ottima
Loved the bathroom
We had a lovely but slightly pricey Dinner the day we arrived and breakfast the following morning. Everything was cooked wonderfully so you get what you pay. The staff were extremely friendly. The room that was advertised as a suite was clean and equivalent to a large room in other places but had fresh milk in the fridge provided and a bottle of beer. The bath was a rolled top and there was a separate shower, sink, toilet. Soap, shampoo, conditioner was provided free. There is also a hairdryer in the room and old wooden wardrobe. The windows are 'sash' with secondary glazing and a good curtain. We were at the front of the building overlooking the road and although it was hot and we left the window open there was no rowdy crowds from the bar downstairs or noise coming through the floor. The establishment was situated in a convenient spot to get around but beware of all the one way systems as it can be a bit of a nightmare without a GPS system.
When we arrived we weren't told about booking for dinner, I brought up the subject and the owner booked us in without any fuss. He also forgot to tell us where it would take place. It was on the ground floor. The instructions weren't clear about parking facilities on booking.com but I sent a message to the owners and they quickly came back to me advising there is parking in the carpark at the back of the establishment. The carpark is a bit of a squish but staff are happy to help you park. The bed, being a four poster and presumably old, was extremely squeaky so every time I moved it squeaked! But as I said it might have been a period bed, so it was fine.
Location was excellent
Over priced. Access to fire escape route was blocked and filthy. Reported and apparently has been cleared now. In an emergency deaths could have been caused. Dust all over lights in the room. We had booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary... very disappointed in the response from company when issues raised. Not even a proper apology. Not the standard expected for the prices charged.
Room was neat and tidy and most of all quiet. Exceptionl dinner and breakdast
Erg mooie, oude, pub/restaurant en hotel. Ruime kamer, goed bed. Locatie is top (in het zicht van de kathedraal). Ontbijt is erg goed.
A fantastic stay at the Wykeham Arms. The room was very clean and pretty. The tea and coffee facilities were great. The location is amazing just 5 mins walk to the centre of town. We ate in the pub and the dinner was amazing.
Car park is small, try to arrive at 11ish if you want to get a space.
The breakfast is delicious. The eggs so fresh and the yogurt so creamy,
Ligger perfekt lige inde midt i byen. Hyggeligt autentisk. Meget venligt personale
Stejl smal trappe til værelset
Everything was exceptional
We were on the top floor stairs ar narrow and steep and winding.
Food excellent
Steep staircase in the annex
Fabulous, interesting property with real history
We came for the food. Fantastic location. Room was very nice but a bit noisy. But you do expect that when staying in an old building
Nothing. If picky the ceiling in the shower could have been wiped. Showed some moisture staining. Also when other rooms used their water supply you could hear the rushing but as I say very picky and overall a great value evening
Authentic and traditional venue
The very creamy floorboards in the bedroom
I loved the welcome, the service, the ambience, the bath in the bedroom, listening to the cathedral bells in the evening.
The only criticism I had was the cleanliness in the corridor and stairs. The pictures and stairwell. If that was because the door had been presumably refurbished, I apologise. That is my only criticism. Everything was perfect.
Great location near the Cathedral. Lovely old pub with fab features. Room very comfortable.
Lovely location and very welcoming!
Nothing
Customer service, old and very clean !
Would love to sleep comfortably with air conditioning.
The staff are absolutely wonderful and the location even better.
With the hot summer you are having despite the staffs best efforts are room was like an oven , did not sleep at all our whole stay.So if it’s hot don’t stay in Kelsey room.
Geweldige atmosfeer, helemaal wat je wilt ontmoeten in Engeland, oude pub en heerlijke kamer
Met 30+ graden was airco aangenaam geweest maar ja, dat hoort nu eenmaal niet in de tijd
It was interesting. The weather was very hot and there was no air conditioning. I tried to check on that and it was never mentioned on their site or your site or my email confirmation. I think that should be an item on the amenities list in case it would affect someone’s health Also coming from a cruise in France we didn’t also have packed an English converter. The hotel did not have one available. And it was Sunday so by the time we got into our room we were unable to buy one. My husband depends on his CPAP machine and was unable to use it. It was a very uncomfortable night. We were exhausted The food was great. The staff was great and also the city. But a reminder to include adapters for the country you are in is essential. And they are very bulky. Thank you

Tolle zentrale Lage fast mitten in Winchester, uriges Gebäude, typisch britisch
Parksituation
The staff are great, very chilled and relaxing place to stay. Good, well-priced menu and lovely food.
Fabulous property and close to everything
Unfortunately we were in a heatwave and the room was very warm however the staff were very obliging and got us a larger fan
La amabilidad del personal, la comida (tanto los desayunos como las cenas), la magnífica ubicación y las instalaciones, incluyendo el plato de ducha, que no es muy frecuente en este tipo de alojamientos.
Loved being central to all the history. The tavern was fun and great staff.
The only problem for us was that our room was on the top floor with no elevator and narrow stairs.
Emplacement ideal dans le centre et calme Parking sur place et excellent breakfast Équipe accueillante et bienveillante
Great location and lovely staff
The fridge made a really annoying noise at night and the coffee machine only made like warm coffee
Ingenting.
Quaint, lovely staff, clean, great breakfast and great location.
Nothing
The location was fabulous. Right by the Cathedral. There were lots of great details attended to in the room. Fresh milk in the fridge. A good Dyson fan to cope with the heat wave. The staff were all friendly and professional. The food was wonderful.
We liked everything. You do need to be a good driver to navigate the narrow street and tight carpark.
Location excellent. Breakfast was good. Evening meal OK
In the roof bedroom. Exceptionally hot
Good location. Nice pub with excellent food. Room very clean and well presented. Staff were amazing and nothing too much trouble.
I feel mean saying the as to a great extent it was outside their control. I would gladly stay here again but not during summer. It was a record breaking 36 degrees, the rooms have no air con, they did provide a fan which was useless given the temperatures. Our room was in the roof, totally unbearable and little sleep, hence why I have marked down for comfort. In milder weather or winter it would be an amazing stay and an easy 10 but during hot weather don’t do it.
Husband grew up in the street so it was lovely for him to revisit and see what had changed. He fondly remembers the pub and was pleased to recognise it from his memories. We had dinner here on the first night of our stay and the food was exceptional.
Everything was good.
Very friendly pub, easy to find perfect for what we needed
Overall, the day was great, I just didn’t like the glass doors going through to the bathroom, limited privacy
The location is excellent. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was very good except there was only melon on offer for the fruit option.
The single rooms are very small, weren't very clean and are a bit shabby with some crumbling plaster work next to the bed. The electric fans were covered in dust. There is a fridge on the wall in the rooms with milk stored in it but the milk is long life. The shower water power is low. It is very much overpriced.
Location and good breakfast
Noise from wedding venue below room
Loved the traditional pub with fantastic food.
Lovely old building interestingly furnished.
I liked it all but probably won’t be able to manage the stairs for much longer due to age. The food was good.
A lovely place to stay and the food was delicious. We had breakfasts and Sunday Lunch. The location was ideal to explore Winchester on foot. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I would definately stop again.
Nothing not to like
Room was above a pub. Room was really nice. Had a bath and a shower. Good facilities in the room. Liked that they have portable fan and heater in the room so you can independently regulate room temperature. Useful with fluctuating weather conditions. Breakfast was included in my price, good choice of cold and hot breakfast. Hot breakfast from full English to something sweet as well. location was good, 5 min walk to town centre. it was situated behind the cathedral, so really easy access to restaurants etc.
Definitely pricey hotel, but room was very comfortable. I was on the third floor with no lift. if you have problems with stairs, please be aware. You have to go through the pub to go to the rooms
Room was fine, and the greeting on arrival and staff interaction thereafter was friendly. We had a very nice dinner and two excellent breakfasts.
Housekeeping. 2 silly shortcomings really took the edge off our stay. Shouldn't happen at this price.
Excellent location. Parking. Good food. Interesting building.
Liked it all. Stairs might be a problem for some but not for us.
Very central position, possible to walk nearly everywhere easily.
We found it difficult to find the Wykeham Arms, and came on a wet day which meant we could no explore by foot
Just a brilliant place to stay
Nowt
Very friendly and excellent staff. The whole character of the building. The quality of the food.
The stairs to the top floor bedrooms in the annex.
We arrived and were shown our room. The room was fine except it was high up in the building up many flights of stairs. It was only for 1 night and we said nothing. However, the young lady who had shown us to the room could see we struggled with the stairs. She returned after a few minutes to say that she had spoken to her manager and they would 'upgrade' us to a room on the lower floor. This was much appreciated.
The stairs.
Very welcoming. Staff were very attentive and made us very welcome.
Nothing to dislike.
Great staff, super helpful and accommodating. Lovely rooms and super location!
A beautiful location Exceptional helpful staff
Loved the size of our suite and the lovely staff. Nothing was too much for them. They looked after us. Location tight near Winchester cathedral and a short stroll to the market square.
Liked everything! It is a 17th century building so thats the charm for us - NOT a negative
Loved the history of the pub. Great location, quirky rooms, bars and restaurant. A delightful stay.
No issues
Comfortable, stylish, warm and friendly and felt just like being at home
Character of the building location attention to detail
The food was rather fussy and over priced
Old world pub
Come dinner sent back Tv didn’t work in room Staff super arrogant Cold breakfast
Stayed here on numerous occasions and the standards never slip, always excellent.
Location was very good. Staff very friendly
The breakfast was very poor. Everything except the fried eggs was not freshly cooked!!! The was inedible!!This was our third visit to the wykeham arms and it was the worse breakfast!!!!
Location was good, but the breakfast and dinner were exceptional.
Bathroom was very cramp and I felt the wardrobe was a bit overpowering for the room size.
The inn is exactly what you want if you are looking for an authentic, classic English inn and pub. Our room was nice and cozy and was very clean. The pub itself is really special and the food is excellent. GET THE INCLUDED BREAKFAST!
Nette Leute, guter Parkplatz, komfortables Zimmer, persönliche herzliche Begrüßung mittels Karte und Keksen. Sehr gutes Essen
Superb friendly staff, excellent food and drink in a building with so much character in the historic centre of Winchester.
Nothing
Great location. Unique. Lovely restaurant.
We had a few issues with our room so had to move, but very well handled by great staff.
Prima ligging!
Niets
Location perfect for sightseeing room and breakfast excellent and staff friendly and helpful.
Staff, food, ambience.
Parking - a bit chaotic, particularly upon departure.
Always have a nice stay here and the coffee machines are a bonus, but....(see below)
....would be nice to have a menu of what each coffee pod is.
Room was lovely with a comfortable bed and good facilities. Food was fabulous cooked by the runner up in the Masterchef the professionals Luke Emmess.
Nothing.
Lovely old building in superb location. Excellent food and staff.
Nice bathroom but basin tap and shower head need some attention.
Staff and atmosphere were excellent. Breakfast great.
Carpark was tiny buuuut ..... It was free :)
Fantastic staff. Great room and complimentary things. Good shower. Hard bed. Not for me. But it might suit others. Great breakfast
Bed
Pleasant, helpful reception. Excellent room, food, and service
Room was delightful although a little bit noisy early with deliveries but hey ho it is a city. We have known the Wykeham for years and it really doesn't disappoint. The pub is just fabulously relaxed and the fire was going so the ambience was spot on. The food at dinner was exceptional as too was the breakfast selection and the staff were a joy all were friendly, helpful and lovely to deal with. We came with a friend who also loved her stay and we are all looking forward to returning in the not too distant.
We loved everything about the Wykeham! This is one of the best one night visits I've had anywhere, for many reasons. The staff were incredibly professional and welcoming, nothing was too much bother for any of them. Breakfast was varied, fresh and beautifully presented. The restaurant was relaxed and low key with a delicious menu. The rooms (single and small) shouted quality and comfort and had everything needed for a short stay. No music or tv in the bar - brilliant! A busy local that also welcomed visitors, with wood fires and fascinating wall decorations. We loved it and will definitely return.
Nothing - it was a surprising gem
