We liked the decor and ambience of the main area, and our room was very cozy. The staff were very helpful and polite. We both enjoyed our stay very much.
The hotel as a whole was ok and comparable to premier inn, the decor is quite old and could do with a freshen up. The room was well equipped, with tea and coffee, flat screen TV and plenty of toiletries.
Clean room, friendly staff.
Excellent staff
Friendly staff. Value for the money.
The breakfast was good and made eggs to order. Reception helped us out with taxis. The bed was comfortable. On arrival things such as parking and breakfast was not made clear to us so we had to ask plus there was confusion over payment. The hotel was clean in the surface but not thoroughly on closer inspection. It was very hot outside and we had a fan but it was not very powerful making being in the room for a long period of time unpleasant.
Hotel is in poor musty smelling condition. Paintwork, carpets fixings is all very old and dirty. Musty smell is so strong in the back rooms 279. Curtains are dusty and smelly. Its in desperate need of an overhaul, definitely not a 4 star rating.
Good stay, comfortable beds, room are a little dated but not a problem for the price we paid. Clean and tidy.
The room was terrible and smelt dirty, the fan did not work properly. Disrespectful residents banging and talking loudly in the corridors, and i swear i had a nocturnal ta dancing elephant in the room above me.
Definitely not a 4 star hotel .. room way too hot. Freestanding air con unit not working properly as dial broken .. no doors on the wardrobe as they had been taken off .. no bedside table on one side of the bed .. extractor fan in the bathroom was on constantly as no isolating switch .. no safe.. whole place in need of a refurbishment.. we booked two stays in different Mercure hotels & this one was better than the first one.. that one is in Telford & was absolutely terrible .. we left a review of that one with pictures but it’s never been published .. the manager told us we had paid more using hotels.com & that they would have given us a refund but we had to go through Hotels.com but I have found this an impossible task.. we will not be using Hotels.com again or Mercure hotels
Need to update website, no swimming pool as advertised
Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable hotel. Nice breakfast.
The room was very nice and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly. We weren't impressed with the restaurant and only ate in there on our first night. They didn't have the first couple of meals I chose, which was steak and salmon. I ended up having a chicken tika curry, which was very good. We also ended up waiting 20 minutes for our drinks for some reason. Everyone just seem to disappear. They were very apologetic when they realised what had happened. They also advertise on their web site that they a swimming pool, but apparently it's been closed for a while.
Poor view
Ok property, outdated and in serious need of a refurbishment. Bathroom was easily 30-40 years old.
A bit surprised on arrival (many signs) that I had to pay £20 for parking for two nights. There was an 'option' to avoid this with a club membership, but considering I'd already fully paid and there were many parking places aplenty, erm...
Location suited. Rooms were fine and staff were pleasant. It was very hot in the rooms. As in most hotels the window only opened a crack, there isn’t any air con in the room but a fan was provided which blew dust the size of snowflakes all around the room. The beds are harder than I would have wanted or expected
Good hotel, good breakfast overall good stay
Nice easy location off the motorway however no noise. Large room, good amenities, tea and coffe making facilities, robes and slippers in the room.
We arrived to check in at 8:30 pm and the room wasn’t ready. Check in was supposed to be ready from 3pm. The room had a disgusting smell to it. It was an extremely hot weather and there was no AC or working fan. The beds were uncomfortable to sleep on. Receptionist who dealt with us didn’t seem to care about anything. Only decent thing about the the place was the breakfast
The horel smells damp and congested. But I didn't mind at first. I the morning I noticed blood dots on the bed when I inspected the bed it was infested with multiple fat bedbugs. They were crawling all over the bed duvet. They were horrible. I couldn't stop itching since a saw them. This is not acceptable in uk. Totally unhygienic. God only know what infections I may have caught being bitten by them all night.
Ideal for overnight stay. Comfortable room. Good restaurant
Hotel was fine for short stay
The staff at this hotel are helpful and polite. I had a minor issue with my room, I reported this to reception and they had somebody at my room in five minutes to resolve the issue. Food was good and I especially enjoyed the breakfast with a wide selection of fruits, preserves and an excellent cooked breakfast choice. I would definitely visit this hotel again, for me, the mark of excellent customer service is when something goes wrong and how the staff deal with that. Highly recommend
Room felt a bit tired, the security latch on the window was broken, the window itself was dirty, as were most others in public areas, have never seen so many cob webs on the outside of window, they acted as there own security system. A window cleaner needs to be employed. Toilet seat was loose, bath plug not attached to the chain, rusty stains coming from the bath grab rails. The bar area was pleasant & welcoming as was the restaurant. Overall not what we expect from a 4* hotel.
Really great staff nice place to stay
Bring your own fan! The rooms on second floor are boiling , you can only open the window a tiny bit and the fan provided not great. Other than that room lovely and clean and spacious
Didn’t dislike anything staff excellent and professional really nice day
Bery
Disappointed that there was no air con in the hotel and especially in our bedroom. Although a fan was provided it did absolutely nothing to lower the temperature in the room . I appreciate it was a very hot weekend _ but felt more could have been done before we arrived . Maybe the fan on beforehand or the door left open ? To be honest we did not get any sleep that night ....very disappointing ....making us very tired next day . On the plus side the staff were very helpful and polite . Especially the dinning room manager .. Hopefully if we stay again this might be addressed. Yours ...Eileen Dixon
Property is tired, there is no air conditioning so makes it very hot as windows hardly open. Could do with a tidy up, stained tiles and wallpaper is starting to peel off. Check in was not wonderful. I was told I had not paid when I had, and then was just passed the keys. Not that welcoming.
If you just want to get in sleep and get out then no issues. Unfortunately our stay had lots of little niggles that just turned this to a very average stay. Breakfast was the highlight and no issues there. Very dusty air vents, radiator and TV. Other issues included the TV remote control batteries were dead, no shower gel (because the linen cupboard key had got lost?!), no beer on tap, small holes in the bed linen (but clean) along with other small but annoying things.
This was an emergency and needed to be near hospital
Great hotel on a great location with great staff.
The room was very hot and the fan in the room wasn’t working properly. So it was very uncomfortable.
Friendly staff, good size rooms and parking
Good
The staff were friendly , welcoming and helpful , reception and in the restaurant . We had a family room , and a little chocolate on the bed on arrival , there was plenty of hot and cold choices for breakfast .
Cold breakfast and some areas tired and missed for cleaning
I had an extended stay as I had a relative in hospital just down the road. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and accommodating and I was very comfortable during my stay.
Lovely room friendly helpful staff
I needed a walk shower and the suite was really nice with a big comfortable bed Air con would have been welcome And for the breakfast to be available till 10
I made a special request on the online form for a particular type of room. This was not reflected in the welcome email from the hotel, and we were allocated the wrong type of room. Problem sorted by very helpful receptionist but it took a while. I’ve been in touch with the reception manager.
Room was small and needed updating. Lots of noise down the corridor at all times of the night, very early wake up from staff being very loud outside the room. In the restaurant the server didn’t inform us of the set menu or the deals that were on offer, the table next to us were told about it by a different server. The soup of the day was different depending on what server you got. Staff were rude and too busy setting up breakfast to deal with any queries. There is no pool. Despite it being on the fire exit maps. Staff at front desk told us it didn’t exist. If it doesn’t exist, why is it on a map. Will not be staying again
The staff were extremely helpful
For me the hotel was cold except for the bedroom which had a heater. The breakfast was excellent but the evening meal I had in the restaurant was disgusting.
Fantastic stay
Pretty decent stay. However the staff are rude. We were standing at the bar for 20 minutes waiting to be served a drink. When we asked the manager she replied “this is how we operate around here.” I was shocked and so was nearby guests, they even commented on her rude manner. Shame when customer service should be paramount in a hotel.
Not what we were led to believe
Location and transport to get to places
Excellent stay and a 2 minute check in which is rare … well done mercure
Adequate place for a one night stay.
Our romm was very good, clean, comfortable and nocely sutuated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We only stayed for one night, but really enjoyed our night at the hotel and would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.
Very enjoyable stay , will be back, staff very helpful, receptionist extremely helpful. No complaints a all 5 stars
Pleasant staff, clean enough. No aircon, room tired, small. Not a four star experience.
For car drivers a handy location for A21, M25, M20 etc. 5 minutes to Tunbridge Wells (not at rush hour). The hospital is virtually next door and a 5 minute walk to the fantastic Black Horse pub and restaurant in Pembury. The hotel room felt a little tired and could do with a freshen up.
Great hotel with really friendly staff.
Very friendly staff and the bed was very comfortable.
Property tired but staff fantastic
This hotel for the price is really dated and needing work. The lady on reception was lovely at check in but on arrival at the room the tv remote didnt work, the room was very cold and the shower was leaking. The room also seemed very grubby and worn. There was noone on housekeeping so the receptionist had to look for another remote. We didnt sleep well as the matress was over soft so newer matresses required. Used it as a stopover before an operation and the location and the receptionist welcome was the only positive of the stay.
We were incredibly well looked after by all the staff we met there. We had told them my husband had mobility issues and we had a room just nearby reception and the dining area, making access really easy. They had also given us a room with 2 comfy chairs which myself, and especially my husband, really appreciated after travelling. There was a great selection of choices at breakfast, with staff replacing items as soon as they were needed. The Mercure is a great base to explore the local area, we were able to really rest and relax. We will definitely be visiting again!
There was cob web on the ceiling just across from the bed, on the telephone side. Also there was dust around the bottom of the toilet at the back. Apart from that it was ok.
Very welcoming & warm atmosphere Good location. Excellent customer service; staff friendly but professional Good breakfast range Spacious room Goid value
The location of the hotel was great, close to all the local amenities, free parking as long as you register your car, which isn't to big an issue. Though the car park is poorly lit at the entrance and some parts of the car park. Cigarette butts, near the entrance of the hotel. Though NO blame on the hotel, just the disrespectful guests. The accommodation was lovely in most parts, everything in your room for your stay. The corridors were cold, was the only downside. All the staff were so lovely, they really went the extra mile. Especially Lisa and Ernest at breakfast were so informative and Just made the stay very enjoyable. My partner and I would recommend this hotel to stay in.
My husband and I, and my son stayed overnight at the Mercure Tunbridge Wells in 2 classic double rooms. We received a friendly welcome and the rooms were clean and comfortable and provided all that we needed. We partook of the hotel breakfast, which was amazing, and probably one of the best I’ve had in a hotel … so much choice! We will definitely use this hotel again.
First time I've stayed at this hotel. Room was nice, clean with a comfy bed, shower powerful. Had a meal in the restaurant. The food was very nice.
Clean & convenient. Had to pay to park unless a Meecure member which is free and easy so worth doing. Bar not particularly well stocked but room very nice, comfortable and clean. Slept very well, would rexcomend
Staff very kind, parking excellent room very quiet and clean. Hotel could do with a lift for luggage.
Friendly staff and clean comfortable room
A+++ friendly staff and very accommodating. Thank you
Shame swimming pool has closed Good size.rooms.
Staff were amazing, so helpful and efficient
The hotel was vast and had long corridors reminded me of a care home, done the job a little far out from Tunbridge well. Beds where comfortable
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was exceptionally clean. Thank you susie kimber
Great hotel Decor a little dated for the Christmas area and horrible tamp smell as you walk into the reception. But other wise stay was great clean staff nice to
the staff where fabulous
The rooms are spacious, the breakfast and dinner was good and the staff were helpful.
The hotel is nice enough, and good value for money given the area. Not in Tunbridge Wells (centre is about a 10-15 minute drive away) but close enough to be convenient. The decor (particualrly the carpets) are outdated, and my room had a slight sewage smell at times. But it was a good place to stay for working purposes.
Easy access good parking, beautiful surroundings, extremely friendly ,helpful staff.
Lovely hotel. Not in Tunbridge wells so need transport. Rooms need upgrading but the staff are lovely and helpful.
Fantastic staff and service.
Easy access and parking. The gardens and facility needs some TLC
After a few bathroom teething problems initially which were sorted very quickly, we were generally impressed. The cleanliness of our room was immaculate (Room 123) on a daily basis. Thank you Viv. Staff were friendly, and special mention has to be made of Amanda and Theresa and the breakfast staff. A highly organised efficient team. A slight drawback was having to work around a coach party for meal timings and, possibly, the young lass behind the bar needed an extra pair of hands to help her in the busy period prior to dinner.
The hotel suits our needs well and we use it frequently in order to see family in Tunbridge Wells but the fact is it is quite scruffy. The swimming pool has been closed for ages too.
Acceptable. Swimming pool and sauna long since gone and no gym - needs facilities
Hotel is a little dated and tired looking and the corridors smell musty. The price isn't too bad for what you get. Room was ok but unfortunately we were on the ground floor which faced onto the courtyard, there was a wedding on that night and the guests use the courtyard until 10pm and the function room is opposite so my bedroom was a bit noisy. The bed was fairly comfortable, shower was hot and the bathroom clean. The carpark is a good size but if there is a function on it's much harder to find a space. A good location to drive into Maidstone and surrounding areas. I'd like to give a special mention to Tom who checked us in and the next day he remembered to ask how our first night was and due to the noise from the wedding he gave us 2 free drinks from the bar and complementary breakfast the next day. Tom went above and beyond to make sure we felt valued and looked after, thank you Tom.
Room, bed and pillows were good. Staff polite. Only one thing i picked up on, the.food hygiene of the staff was poor. Person touched the loaf of bread with bare hands, should of left it in the selophane bag. Another, brought cups, then glasses out carried with fingers inside. The Staphylococcus bacteria could be passed to customers Bacteria could be passed on
Inconsistent staff - some helpful but others not very friendly. Room was OK but bathroom was basic with a stained bath that was a bit off putting. Not a very convenient location.
1. Needs to be maintained properly (sockets don't work, sink outflow does not either) 2. Needs a lift for people on first floor.
The reception staff were not very helpful with problems at this hotel. I was woken up on the first night at 12:30 by two employees trying to enter a room with a claw hammer and wood chisel. They were hammering the door for around 10-15 minutes before i went out to explain that what they were doing would not gain entry. They then proceeded to hammer the door for a few more minutes before another visitor went out and told them the same thing. When i mentioned this to reception later that day she laughed and said hopefully that wont happen again tonight.
Nobody on the reception desk when We arrived. Key card didn't work, had to return to the reception to have problem rectified. Very noisy plumbing in room. However room was clean, bed was comfortable and shower was good.
Was only an overnight stay on way to Dover
Firstly, the thing that stood out about the hotel was the friendly and helpful staff - a particular mention for Ben on reception, who was a credit to the hotel. The rooms we booked were spacious and comfortable, but starting to look a little tired. There were a few little niggly things that would be easy to fix (eg a light switch didn't work, the TV remote had no back on the battery compartment and only worked intermittently) that didn't spoil our stay but pointed to the hotel needing a bit of extra time needed to sort out the little things.
A nice hotel. We had a comfortable stay.
The property looks amazing from outside, the building is dated smells like cigarettes, the check in was unfriendly and the staff member was a little rude. The room was not clean, we were 3 people the towels were only for 2 people, there was long black hair on the toilet seat and in the bath. There were also soap stains in the shower from probably other previous clients in that room. I did not have breakfast so do not know what the restaurant area looked like.
Liked !
The staff are friendly and helpful.the food in the restaurant was very good and the service was great
Staff were friendly, room was lovely. The only downside was there wasn't any air con. We asked for a fan but it didn't cool us down.
Regular Dinner ok but rushed, Romanian dessert wine appalling Breakfast good for this type of hotel
