Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Great hotel, but the carpark is not easy and should be better
Lovely room with balcony & seating overlooking the sea. Staff were excellent! We used to stay at The Grand but, we will now stay at the Mercure.
Bathroom lovely but a tight squeeze. Breakfast was excellent but the dining area was cramped for so many guests. It would have been better if the weather was kinder & the covered outside space could have been used.
Location. Nice clean room with air conditioning.
Key stopped working a number of time so had to keep going downstairs to reception. In the end, they got maintenance to fix the lock which was appreciated
location service staff
toilet by reception not wheelchair or rollator accessible, window in room does not open - serious fire risk -dinner ends far too early told 8pm! car park full looks like non-residents cars - my car with disabled stickers was blocked in - no control on entry. Bedding felt damp! Could not get a better room because no lift available although offered as an option was not confirmed until arrival and the no room available.
My friend and I had a lovely stay. We explored Brighton. The location was excellent , the staff lovely and friendly . and we enjoyed the wonderful breakfast in the morning. we hope to come again Thank you Marie Harrow.
The location was good; the staff were all very pleasant and helpful. My request for a room with a bath was picked up quickly and confirmed, which I appreciated.
I knew I had booked a classic double room with an inland view, so was expecting a room with a view of houses rather than the seafront. What I was allocated was a room with windows covered in film so they couldn’t be seen through, which couldn’t be opened more than a crack, and through the crack of which I could see filthy vent shafts and bird mess on the same level as the bedroom. This was very disappointing and made an already rather small room feel more like a cell than a pleasant place to sleep. If I had seen any information that an ‘inland view’ would be anything other than clear glass looking out to the immediate surroundings of streets and houses, I would not have booked. I did not mention to the hotel as I was going to be out helping my son move accommodation and only coming back to sleep - as a disabled person I needed to save my energy and I am not a natural complainer - but I did not feel very comfortable being so close to what felt like a bit of a biohazard. The windows had to stay completely closed due to the proximity of the bird mess and the air conditioning unit was not in great working order. It was an incredibly expensive stay for an incredibly disappointing room which in no way resembled the photographs.
Old and tired. Rooms are clean but not recently decorated. It’s an old building so lots of creaky floors etc.
All the rooms of the same traffic are not equally equipped

Plenty to eat
The restaurant was tight, had to squeeze past each other when at the centre isle.
The location was good and Brighton itself is a great place to visit.
When I arrived I was waiting to be served at reception one receptionist was serving another guest the other one looked at me and ignored me. When walking to the room the carpets and stairs looked dirty, in the room itself the carpets had stains all over it. Lastly if anyone staying would like a lie in you need to hope no one in another room is having a shower because the pipes creak in your own bathroom and a noise like an alarm goes off until they have finished.
Posizione Colazione Accoglienza
Camera caldissima in estate.
Such a clean hotel beatiful confortable rooms
Great location with a snazzy vibe.
Tolle Lage.
Frühstückservice etwas unaufmerksam. Fehlende Klimaregulierung Fensteröffnung
The staff were very friendly and always happy to help. The hotel is also beautifully located at the seafront close to other venues and restaurants. It is a bit of a walk from the train station, but very easy to navigate to. The rooms themselves were very clean, with comfortable beds and even included a bathrobe and slippers. I would definitely visit again should I return to Brighton.
The single room were quite small, which was not really visible from the photos. This is very nitpicky, but the coffee at breakfast also tasted quite sweet, which was not what we expected.
Property location is great, on the seafront. Parking in the car park behind was easy and convenient.
Very very poor standard of cleanliness - the carpet in room 110 was heavily stained and pretty gross, the mattress had unidentified ‘bits’ on it - Google lens said these looked like bed bug/mites but couldn’t be certain (only pulled back the sheet to check the mattress because I’d been bitten 4 times in the middle of the night). Pest control company they brought in said they weren’t (phew) but they still shouldn’t have been there even if the mattress had been cleaned. Bath did not drain when showering, ‘glugged’ all day and night and on day 4 of my stay, regurgitated goodness knows what disgusting brown matter through the plug hole. Staying in Brighton again this weekend, and not booking Mercure. Very poor show for a so called ‘superior’ room.
The size of the room for the price
.
Staff are great. Welcoming, efficient, a warm reception.
Threadbare, badly marked and dirty in appearance carpets. We were allocated room 100, the threshold between the room and the bathroom was very uneven. The few plug sockets in the room were oddly placed, not by the bed and in the case of two single sockets, not near a suitable surface for changing devices. The bed was a small short double (and we are not tall!) located beside a wall to fit it in the equally small room. For the amount we paid this is NOT good value. No where other than the bed to put a suitcase to unpack, loo had a failing flush. The bathroom was cleaned to a good standard. It is obvious that a great deal of money has been spent downstairs in the reception and bar areas. That money should have been spent on the corridors and bedrooms instead. Summary; welcoming staff and reception area, rooms are very tired, poorly thought out and expensive for what they are. Compared to other hotels in Brighton that we have stayed in recently.
The staff were amazing truely a credit to company. Food was pretty good.
Just the little details, sink in the bathroom seemed like it was blocked, water went down really slowly. Hotel needs a little modernising and updating or more refreshing new carpets. That sort of thing. Pillows were not nice.
Location.
Mostly everything. Tiny room, very tired and no air conditioning, yet still charged a very high price. Very dissatisfied, tried to speak to a manager but the staff really weren't interested.
Great location. The staff are all amazingly welcome! The atmospher is wonderful with beautiful decor! All very clean and well maintained!

The classic building
Some bits are looking a bit tired
The lobby and bar and location
The standard of the rooms. The carpet and floor was worn out and litterarly «swinging». The first room we got had no proper windows, just a 15 cm opening to a narrow «yard» full of bird shit and dirt. The second room was much better, but had a mouldy/unpleasant smell.
Windows very dirty and paid for sea view Car park so small had to park a bit away
Lovely decor, rooms good and comfortable beds
I have stayed at this hotel several times. Great location, very clean, comfortable beds and nice decor. Louis on reception was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.
The hotel receptionist was lovely and so accomodating, i felt very safe there, very clean, very friendly staff very welcoming and relaxing energy
Nothing at all
Staff very helpful & hotel very clean we had some difficulty getting to our rooms on arrival due to a large number of people conregating in reception, on the stairs etc we struggled reaching the lift, toilets etc
For a lady with disability & moblity issues our room wasnt the easiest to get too
Very clean and friendly
Nothing to dislike
Staff so helpful, clean and beautifully decorated
No aircon so did get hot in the room
Being on seafront and having seaview
All good
Very quirky. Our first room was disappointing as it had the fire escape stairs outside the window but once this was bought to the attention of your friendly staff on the desk our room was changed quite quickly.
The dining room a bit small especially to accommodate all checked in for a Bank Holiday
comfortable room on the sea front friendly staff nice shower and bathroom
no mini bar no power sockets near bed pillows slightly too expensive for quality
Good locatiin, had Parking, was on a bus line.
Bed was hard, shower was not very good
Showing its age, staff are nice but room was not good, filthy carpet, dirty bathroom. Loud AC and very hard bed. Might do chargeback on credit card.. more like a 2 star room and premier in is much better, £200 a night for this… never again. Oh and sink had a crack in the bowl and caps missing on shower taps.
Breakfast was good position good
A pool
Really accommodating staff, couldn’t do enough for you and a great selection at breakfast.
Rooms were very very cosy
Excellent location very friendly staff
Fabulous location, beach front. Very stylish bathroom.
There is no air conditioning, only fans - and the window didn't fully open. The room was very warm and there was only two sockets.
The breakfast was very good, probably the best buffet breakfast I’ve had. The staff were good and helpful and very friendly.
The room would benefit from a little TLC. Nothing major just a couple of things, like the light above the bathroom mirror not working.
Check in great, just waited 20 minutes, we was very early Staff very friendly and helpful Plenty of space in the room, we booked a basic double, we got a family room Breakfast was great choice and plenty The lobby was gorgeous
The room needed updating, stains on the carpet, and paintwork chipped, but clean The lift was out of order so the stairs was a bit tricky for me, I managed need more milk in the room for tea and coffee, needed to ask for more, not a problem
It had the seating outside it had a bar and you can sit were you want it had a breakfast area were you could have breakfast
The size of room two small for 4 days stay the view wasn't great were the room was two noise very echo doors frame not supporting the door gap under door frame shower not powerful toilet flush had to do 4 full flashes
Did not have breakfast as had to leave early. Staff friendly and helpful hotel clean and decor up to date a d contemporary
The curtains did little to exclude the light as did not meet a d if they did thdte was a gap arou d tbe sides
Breakfast was very good with a variety of food
More teabags and milk cartons would have been good
The staff were helpful. The hotel was comfortable
Ourvroom was quite a way from reception and dining room with stairs
Location is perfect. Near the Brighton i360 tower. Staff were as helpful as they could possibly be.
Appalling parking in a garage that was so tight to get into we gave up and parked on the main road. We witnessed one lady hit three cars trying to get out of the garage, another needed help and 25 minutes to get out of the space she was in. The rooms (double and a single) were tiny and ridiculously hot - the curtains has been left open and the temperature was well over 30 degrees in the room and we were unable to cool it down at all as windows blocked from being opened more than a few cm. Impossible to sleep. There was a small fan in the room which when we turned it on, it blew a huge puff of dust over the whole of the bed, obviously never used nor cleaned, and we had to ask for a hoover to clean the mess up, and cleaned fans. The nearby lift (would have been useful for disabled daughter) was out of order.
We recently spent 3 fantastic night in the Mercure, atmosphere, staff, food, location was fantastic and the room was lovely overlooking the beach. Great location with easy access to the beach and into town if wanting head shopping or Brighton pier along with i360 and upside down house if looking for something to do with the family, we would highly recommend and we will definitely be back.
Beautiful lobby area, friendly staff and comfortable room. Excellent location and on site parking
The lift was out of service
Stayed in February Returned for another stay Superb
Great beach front location.
Położenie i miła obsługa
Arrived early and without pre-booking parking. Was immediately directed to the hotel car park where the car remained for the duration of our visit at a very reasonable price. We were checked in and made our way to our room in the Mews part of the property. The twin room was on the small size but had everything we needed including robes, slippers, toiletries and air-con. Staff were attentive, pleasant and took the time to chat with us. A beautiful hotel with period features in an amazing location right on the seafront. Would highly recommend.
The staff were absolutely incredible. After an issue with our room, they did everything to rectify the issue and beyond. They genuinely seemed to care and were very accommodating. I cannot recommend this hotel and staff enough. Thank you so so much for making our stay so lovely.
A little dated
The quirky features, the seafront location, the breakfast, the staff
Not a complaint but accessibility was an issue for an older member of the party, in future will book accessible room
Staff friendly Excellent breakfast
No drawers Had to pay a large amount for parking
Welcoming Good breakfast Helpful staff Comfortable bed Lovely decor in reception
Lift not working Coffee machine in room broken; room 350 No tea bags or sugar or milk
Fab location and beautiful design
Room was a bit warm
Everything perfect
Very clean
We’ve always loved staying in the Mercure as the hotel is lovely and previous rooms have been clean and comfortable. Location is really great and staff friendly.
However this time our room was in ‘The Mews’ part of the hotel. It reminded me of a Premier Inn. The room was tired and bathroom not to the usual clean standard. We had a 3 night stay and were unable to be located to another room as the hotel was full. A shame as we would think twice about booking in case we get one of these rooms again.
Schmutzige Teppiche, insgesamt etwas abgenutzt, wenig freundliches Personal, kleine Zimmer ohne Steckdosen, Fenster nicht ganz zu öffnen, keine Schrankmöglichkeit
Size and cleanliness of room, comfortable bed, sea view, good sized bathroom.
Only negative, no milk in room for coffee
Lovely breakfast, good selection of food types. The staff were friendly and helpful. When they were told it was my birthday the went the extra mile.
Lovely hotel, clean & welcoming
Stor terrasse
Staff very polite
No air con ,to many stairs, not enough plug sockets
Good location and view from room was good. Hotel also had aircon which was well needed
Rickedy furniture and said service breakfast
Fantastic location
No parking
Great hotel staff and good breakfast
Friendly service and staff. Rooms were clean and spacious
The fact that the lift didn't go past the 1st floor
The staff really helped make our stay excellent, very attentive when required but not intrusive, friendly and helpful when asked about anything.
The car park while easy to park was a little grubby and did not set a good example of the hotel
Staff were friendly and helpful
The room.had very little storage options and carpet was dirty, considering it was expensibe it was a little dissapointing
Good location, excellent breakfast and good decoration in the lobby.
We requested twin beds and ended up with a large single bed. The phone didn’t work to call reception so I had to go back there waking and it was far. The receptionist told us there was a lift but it wasn’t true it was a lift for physically challenged people. Then you should not have allergies or asthma in that hotel because there is an old smelly carpet everywhere you go. That’s not nice it feels like an old grandma house. There were no bottles of water in the room we had to request them twice to get them. The bathroom smelled like sewage it was also very hot there. No AC in the room only fans. And you could not open the window as it was leading to a disgusting place full of filth and pigeon poop and you could hear pigeons all the time. Really terrible for an Accor hotel.
Location
Bathroom was very small .Toilet was literally in the doorway up a step.
Great location on the beach, easy to walk down to town and to get the bus to/from the station. The room was spacious and well appointed. Would highly recommend staying here to experience Brighton.
Breakfast was fine But not enough seats for people to sit at a table
To please advertise the car park charges As to be hit with a £28 parking fee at check in was very upsetting
Air con didn’t work breakfast was ok
No air con and key cards to room not working
The location
I have booked a very expensive room and I was welcome into a different room that was dirty, the AC system was leaking there was so much dirt I have never seen in my life in all the hotels I have been in. I went to complain and I was given a room that I paid for which was not the same as the one you have in the website. Overall very bad experience. Breakfasts did not have any vegetarian options to choose from which was sad, the staff been handling the dirty dishes near the table I was eating, also the plates been taken from us in a hurry. I didn’t felt good on this experience. But I won’t ever book one of your hotels to stay in.
Clean, good location, polite staff, value for money
Everything was great.
I booked a afternoon tea that was lovely
The bedroom was horrible in every way
Location perfect
The room and bedding were dirty & stained
good location and reasonable carpark fee, very helpfull FoH staff. Breakfast Host very friendly and up to her Job, very good
Bar staff at nigh time, busy with their own social media, even when it was not busy take ages to get a drink. Breakfast needs attention, for a 4-star hotel, poor coffee service with only 1 machine, second with only 3 choices none of it was coffee. Only W&B toast available -despite the hotel picture suggest otherwise- Hot items sufficient and ok, cold items poor display and selection for a 4-star hotel. The room we were in, the windows MUST get a Paint job, kind of unacceptable for 4 stars, the same for the heating it looks very bad and worn out.................
Great location, a bit quieter than around the pier but still close to bars and shops. The beach across the road was less busy which was great. Lots of choice for a classic English breakfast.
The room seemed very small for the price we paid, but it had everything you need. The bed was also very narrow.
Location was good, lovely interior friendly and welcoming staff.
Beds were too firm
The staff were excellent and the quality of everything was top notch. Food and cleanliness first rate. Highly recommend.
In my opinion they should provide guests who are staying for a full 7 nights a one week parking rate. £196 is taking a liberty. £28 per night is acceptable for a one or two night stay but is out of order when staying a full week
Large room
Extremely small bathroom, you step out of shower, be carefulll norm to walk into the toilet . Vey dirty carpet.
