We had a truly lovely time at Moon Isle Beach Bungalow. The food was absolutely amazing — every meal was a highlight. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive throughout our stay. A special shoutout to Mandy, the owner — she is the most helpful and kindest person you could ask for. She took care of everything and made the whole stay feel so much more personal. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed, warm-hearted beach getaway!

Moon Isle is such a special place, absolutely do not hesitate to stay here if you have the opportunity. The house is on the sand only meters from the sea, surrounded by coconut trees and with only the sound of the waves you are instantly transported to an entirely different rhythm of life from the rest of the world. It is so peaceful and calm and we could have stayed forever! The house is beautiful and the rooms are gorgeous, very spacious with excellent aircon, and spotlessly clean. As a family we had two rooms, one of them had a wonderful sea view which was so lovely to wake up to in the morning. Moon Isle has an excellent restaurant with the most gorgeous setting on the sand right next to the waves. The breakfasts were absolutely amazing, plentiful and fresh with an excellent choice of Sri Lankan options. We also ate at the restaurant every evening and the food was amazing. The setting is hard to beat. Tables on the sand, waves lapping, fairy lights and coconut trees. It is the most chilled vibe. Absolutely gorgeous! We did not at any point wish to leave Moon Isle and go elsewhere for any reason. They have everything you need right there. We booked a sunrise dolphin watching trip through moon Isle. We saw lots of spinner dolphins and our boat drivers were great! You can also arrange to go on snorkelling trips to pigeon island, scuba diving, and a range of water-sports are also available. One of the most beautiful aspects of Moon Isle also has to be the wonderful staff. Big shout out to Christopher who is absolutely amazing and looked after us so well! We unfortunately did not get to meet Amanda, however we spoke on the phone and she is clearly a very special lady. We take from Moon Isle, full hearts, and the very best memories. Thank you so much to the whole team at Moon Isle. We hope very much that one day we will be able to return.

This is a stunning location, right on the beach. Mandy was exceptionally helpful from before arrival, communicating by WhatsApp, and throughout our stay. The staff were incredibly polite and attentive. The food was fantastic - lots of fresh fish and seafood, wonderful fresh fruit for breakfast and traditional Sri Lankan cuisine.

Hervorragende Lage direkt am Strand. Das Restaurant war sehr gut und das Personal sehr freundlich.

Die Zimmer sind sehr einfach gehalten, vor allem das Bad, und dafür ist der Preis pro Nacht etwas zu hoch, im Vergleich zu anderen Unterkünften in der Gegend. Man musste teilweise sehr lange warten, bis man bedient wurde.

Cabaña sencilla pero con encanto a pie de playa en la arena con una terraza con vistas increíbles al mar. El restaurante del hotel fue el mejor que probamos por la zona, los desayunos eran muy completos y con gran variedad de oferta. La ubicación también era muy buena, ya que esta cerca de otros bares y restaurantes por si te apetece cambiar. El personal es muy amable y Amanda es una persona muy atenta que conoce el nombre de sus huéspedes y se preocupa de que todo esté bien.

El baño está bien y limpio, aunque podría reformarse un pelín, pero no fue un inconveniente.

Mixed feelings about this place. This is a pretty run down bungalow located next to the kitchen. This means that you smell everything that is being cooked if you sit outside. There are some other rooms at the property so this is a small hotel. There is also some type of a storage under the bungalow. It is right on the beach so the location is awesome. The AC in the room is great but the bathroom had broken glass in the door and was very basic like from a camping site. For the price, the bungalow should have been totally renovated and should look like the pictures. The beach is nice, restaurant is excellent and the staff is nice. The drive to this place is an adventure since there is no sign from the main road and you drive on a dirt road. So, if this place was $50 per night, I would say you get good value, for $150 per night, the value is not there in my opinion.

Mi è piaciuto essere direttamente sulla spiaggia e mangiare in riva al mare con i piedi sulla sabbia

Non mi è piaciuto la pianificazione dell escursioni non dettagliata e nota prima del momento stesso in cui si partiva, non c’era un scaletta dei tempi. Inoltre, in 4 giorni di alloggio non è mai stata pulita la stanza o non è stato mai chiesto di pulire durante il nostro soggiorno. Per una notte lo rifarei, per più notti lo sconsiglio. Alla fine abbiamo avuto problemi con il pagamento; ci siamo presentati in reception per la consegna delle chiavi e il saldo, ma in 4 persone dello staff ci hanno spostati in un’area appartata, non è stato molto chiaro fin da subito il pagamento in contanti, tra la camera e le altre spese tra cui una escursione, sta di fatto che prima ci hanno fatto pagare la camera, poi mentre pagavamo l’escursione hanno preso e nascosto dei soldi dal conto della camera per poi dire che mancavano ( 10.000 rupie)

Mooi en aangenaam strand. Eten is goed. Pannenkoeken en yoghurt bij ontbijt, stir fried rice met calamares en roti vonden wij een aanrader. Jetski (met banaan en donut) op het strand. Comfortabele bedden.

De reden van deze lage score heeft vnl te maken met de prijs (eur 170 pn voor 3 personen incl ontbijt) die we betaalden in verhouding met het comfort van de badkamer. Badkamer was enorm warm, geen warm water en er was geen douchekop (enkel pijp waaruit waaruit water stroomde). Kranen van lavabo erg verouderd. Geen bergplaats voor toiletgerief. De accomodatie gaf een onverzorgde eerste indruk bij aankomst (rommelige parking). Toastbrood bij ontbijt was niet getoast en daardoor niet zo smakelijk.

Wow wow wow! Moon Isle Beach Bungalow is truly a slice of paradise. I stayed at Moon Isle Beach Bungalow with my mum in the sea view room and we had the most incredible stay. The room was very beautiful and clean with good air-conditioning that kept it cool for our entire stay. The view of the sea and beach from the room was amazing and the atmosphere at the hotel was perfect for a calm and relaxed vacation. Amanda was a very kind and considerate host. She sorted out trips for us whale watching and to Pigeon Island which were very good value and very well organised. Amanda also checked up on us throughout our stay to ensure we had everything we needed and that everything was perfect for us. Umesh was also very kind and the food at the restaurant was the best we had in Sri Lanka! The seafood was incredible and fresh and very reasonably priced and the atmosphere at the restaurant was excellent with good music, tables right next to the sea and beautiful lighting from the fairy lights. It was without a doubt the best restaurant in the area! The rest of the staff were also incredible. Everyone was very kind and would go out of their way to ensure that our stay was the best possible. The location is also excellent, Pigeon Island is a short boat trip away for snorkelling where you can see turtles, reef sharks and coral. The beach and sea are beautiful and well looked after and the atmosphere is just right for a relaxing, beachy holiday. Overall I would recommend Moon Isle Beach Bungalow to everyone!! The atmosphere, staff and location really make this place perfect and it really is a slice of paradise.

Nous avions réservé la cabane qui était dans le sable face à la mer. Et nous ne regrettons pas. Nous étions bien installées et nous nous faisions bercer par le bruit des vagues. (Sommeil léger s'abstenir 😂). Le personnel est vraiment gentil. Amanda sait bien recevoir et s'occuper de ses hôtes. Une jolie attention à la fin du séjour : une bouteille de vin blance. La plage est vraiment bien et le fait de pouvoir profiter des transats....au top. Nous avons fait deux excursions depuis l'hôtel : dauphins et snorkeling et c'était parfait Le restaurant est vraiment bon. Nous avons déjeuné et dîné tous les jours.

This is some of the best accommodation we have ever stayed in. It's perfectly located right on the beach and has the best restaurant in the area. You really don't need to leave as this place has everything you need. They arranged a snorkeling trip to pigeon island for us and on the other days we relaxed on the sun beds with amazing cocktails and delicious seafood. The evening dinner atmosphere is the best we experienced in Sri Lanka, you can tell the owners really care about attention to detail. Thank you both! We had such a special time.

The house is very charming and by the beach. The rooms are tastefully done - and the food is just too good - the restaurant was a big addition from when we had stayed around 6 years ago. And Mandy keeps popping up to keep checking if everything is ok from the fruit juice at breakfast to the seafood platter at dinner, to the hot water in the bathroom. The Gazebo and dining tables by the beach have their own charm. We ate well, slept well and enjoyed the place! We will keep returning!

We stayed in the bungalow room. It was an old but fun beach shack. Right on the beach with ffun bar staff. Walking distance to many other bars and restaurants.

The power went out on one day and we had no explanation. Our aircon system also didn't work so was hot to sleep.

Ik vond de accommodatie in verhouding wel duur voor de kamer die je er voor kreeg. Maar dat zal te maken hebben met de hele fijne plek waar het lag.

Ristorante in ottima posizione ma qualità del cibo migliorabile. Struttura un po’ cara rispetto ai prezzi dello Sri Lanka per quello che ha da offrire.

Merita sua per la posizione che per la qualità del soggiorno. A Nilaveli essere nel posto giusto è importante, qui ci sei.

Una rinfrescata agli ambienti non sarebbe male.

Plage superbe, endroit relativement calme. Très bon petit déjeuner. Le restaurant est très bon aussi et l’un des meilleurs rapport qualité prix de la plage.

Les transats en bois sur la plage ne sont pas confortables, beaucoup trop durs et les matelas trop fins donc mal de dos au bout d’un moment. Le personnel est en dilettante, souvent cachés derrière le bar sur le hamac ou leur banc donc on attend parfois longtemps. Nous avons attendu 1h15 un crumble qui n’est jamais arrivé car le serveur a oublié de passer commande ..une simple question pour savoir pourquoi nous restions assis si longtemps à table après le repas aurait pu éviter cette attente interminable pour rien.

The location. It was on the beach and because the property only has 6 rooms you felt as though you had a private beach all to yourself.

La struttura si trova proprio sulla spiaggia, noi abbiamo alloggiato nella cabana che aveva un stupenda vista mare. La stanza era sufficientemente spaziosa ed aveva all’interno tutto il necessario. Era pulita e silenziosa. Lo staff è stato super, dal gestore ai ragazzi che aiutavano al bar e nel ristorante. Abbiamo sempre mangiato in struttura perché il ristorante era buonissimo, la posizione fantastica e i prezzi onesti.

Sono rimasta un po’ delusa dalle escursioni: sia quella per avvistare i delfini, sia quella ad Angel Rock. Le ho trovate piuttosto care e non troppo entusiasmanti. Questo non dipende chiaramente dalla struttura né dal personale.

We loved everything about the structure: -the room was very clean and comfortable - the food was amazing ( told by Italian we can say that it was the best food we've ever tried in Sri Lanka) and authentic - the stuff was really kind and helpful. - in the structure you can find also some option to visit pigeon island and coral island with great price and amazing people A special note goes to AMANDA who is the best host we’ve ever met. A beautiful person, kind and available for any kind of suggestion.

The location is amazing and the staff were super friendly and helpful. We had a great snorkeling trip to Pigeon Island also arranged by Moon Isle. We slept very well and were sorry to leave such a tranquil, happy place.

We stayed in their sole cabana- just wow! The cabana was extremely comfortable, small as you’d expect, but perfect. The beach is gorgeous, very unspoilt & we had the perfect view & the sounds of ocean from our room were magical. The host Amanda is wonderful, nothing too much trouble! The food in the restaurant was fantastic - breakfast, lunch & dinner - seafood platter highly recommended - all very authentic, but Western options too, all cooked fresh & again on the beach with amazing views .

As the good is cooked fresh, and the restaurant busy, it isn’t the fasted dining experience, but with that view & the freshness & tastiness of the food - not a problem!!

Minor point: Friendly staff but some of them need to improve their English skills. As a result some misunderstanding by ordering food and drinks.

The Bungalow is located at the beautiful Nilaveli beach and the rooms had everything we needed. Food was also really good. Amanda and Umesh are really nice. Amanda even gave me a long-sleeve shirt for snorkeling because I didn‘t have one.

A/C was a bit loud staff was friendly but not as warm-hearted and caring as we experienced in other hotels

The location and vibe was incredible. If you’re looking for a relaxing stay in a stunning location go there. We also booked whale watching and saw whales. The food was great and a very warm welcome from Amanda made our stay amazing.

The location is fantastic, and its a beautiful small resort direct om the lovely Nilaveli beach. We had a great trip to Peagon Island, easy organized at the hotel.

We felt that the restaurant could have been a fantastic quiet place, only with the soft brezze from ocean, instead you feel you Are sitting in a nightclub, with loud music from the hotel and the neighbour hotel. An upgrade here and there could be good as Well, and the service in the restaurant was rather slow. We also missed the smile from the staff, all over Sri Lanka We have been meet with big smiles, but not in this resort.

The room is on the beach, just fee steps from the ocean, really beautiful location… Nilaveli beach is really nice and we had great sunny day during our stay. Also the accomodation provides beach towels so that you dont have to worry about yours. The room was nice and spacious. :) Breakfast was included in our overnight stay and you can choose from the menu what you want to eat.

Maybe it would be great that for this price you add towels for bathroom as well and for the shower. Also, the staff didnt look so interested, first day they didnt notice we were sitting and waiting for the menu until we come to ask about menu, and we can see that here is a space for them to be more better in providing service since the cost per night is not so cheap.

Beautifully located right on the beach. The sea was great for swimming. The food in the restaurant was very good, as was the breakfast. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A Poseidon dive center is right next door. Scooter rentals are also available directly at the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay.

The mosquitoes loved to bite me, so be sure to take mosquito repellent with you.

We loved it here - beautiful beach with plenty of shade and loungers. Amanda, Umesh and the rest of the staff were wonderful. We had a sea view room which was very clean and comfortable and had an individual outdoor seating area. Good and varied food including great breakfast. Sea perfect for swimming with a further several kilometres of beach to run or walk along. Pigeon island visible and easy to organise a trip. A highlight for us was also seeing the fishing nets being brought in and people coming to buy fish straight from the beach.

Moon Isle is set in a stunning beach location which is off the beaten track. Our bungalow room came with A/C and was well equipped. The food onsite was very good at a reasonable price with attentive staff on hand. We had a wonderful unforgettable time, thank you.

Perfect, quiet beachfront location run by friendly and welcoming family.

I love the location! It's right on the beach! And during the time we were there, the beach to the left and to the right from the hotel was deserted. There are only a few rooms at the hotel and guests would leave somewhere and at times it felt like we had our own private beach just for two of us! Also having breakfast and dining there is so great, because again your doing it right on the beach, so the scenery and the sounds of waves are perfect. I live how they have us so many different traditional Sri-Lankan side dishes to our order. The bungalows are located far from the main road, so you only hear the sound of waves and nothing else. Very nice owners and staff - they helped us with luggage both during check-in and check-out and did it out of genuine hospitality, not like most places in the world where they help you with luggage and stay there wait for tips. Really great place, very romantic, I hope we'll be able to come back to Sri-Lanka again and stay at these Bungalows!

Moon Isle beach was the perfect place to stay at the end of our trip in Sri Lanka. The room was very good and clean and also it is just in front of the beach, you can't literally ask for better. The breakfast is amazing and also the owner Amanda is very kind. If you go to Nilaveli/Trincomalee, you must come here!

It was disappointing. If I mention the positive aspects, I would say that the food was good. We stayed in the cabana and the photos are clearly much nicer than the reality. The mosquito net was torn and dirty, the bathroom was very outdated and not pleasant at all, and we could only take one hot shower. We had no water, and while Amanda did the necessary to fix the problem, we only had cold water. I would say that 108 USD per night, it feels like being ripped off—the value for money is really excessive. EDIT -Two weeks later, I see that you're still upset about my comment regarding your establishment. I hope you're able to sleep at night despite this, especially since it’s clearly making you aggressive. Behind your seemingly friendly, even silly appearance, hides a truly deceitful person—far worse than I imagined. You claim that if we had expressed our disappointment, you would have changed our room: False. You told us upon arrival that you had poorly managed your bookings, accepting more reservations than available rooms, and that you had to give your personal room to guests for this reason. You accuse me of stealing, yet you gave us an invoice in rupees instead of dollars, which was my reference on Booking. You made a mistake with the amount and texted me on WhatsApp. I responded immediately, telling you the name of the hotel I was staying and you sent someone to whom we handed the money. I regret paying you because you didn’t deserve that money. Now you're trying to scam us again by attempting to charge us a second time, You’re worse than a petty thief and a dishonest person. You should be ashamed to be in the hotel business with your decrepit bungalows. You'd be better off doing some renovations rather than wasting time writing aggressive comments. When I read your responses to negative reviews, it’s clear you're just silly, and that makes you nasty.

The "secluded" location, diving, food; all amazing!

We liked everything about our stay here! From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by Mandy (the very hospitable and warm host) and saw the beach view we knew we were going to have a relaxing and peaceful few days. The cabana was located right on the beach and we slept really well after long walks along the palm tree lined beach and swims in the sea. The breakfast and dinners were also delicious so we didn’t need to go anywhere else. It really was a tropical paradise- quiet, unspoiled and beautiful. Wonderful!

Its location actually on a beach was its biggest asset. Walking out on to a beach, having ready access to food and drink whilst admiring the view was brilliant. It’s why you come here really. A word about the host ‘Amanda’ is necessary. She is the heart and soul of the place - wonderful.

Our room was a bit ‘tired’. The blind kept on falling down and the shower room was inclined to flood due I think to sand. The food is a bit slow not a problem when you have plenty of time to admire the view but at times it came out cold.

Staff were all very helpful when we asked anything. Room was lovely and clean and was exactly as advertised. Every meal we are at the hotel was great as well as service. Lots of sun-beds on beach to relax on. Can walk into the sea at the hotel within a few minutes. Can walk along the beach and there is lots of other restaurants and bars locally. Good air conditioning in our room which was needed due to the heat.

Wi-Fi was not good but think this was due to bad weather, was not put off by this.

Moon Isle is a very special place right on a fabulous stretch of beach in Nilaveli. We had a lovely relaxing time chilling out in the hammocks, jumping the waves in the clear blue sea, drinking cocktails at the little beach bar and eating delicious, freshly prepared food. The Deep Blue Diving Centre is on the same complex and we went on a snorkelling trip to Pigeon Island with them which we would thoroughly recommend. The guys there were fantastic. Amanda, the host, is so lovely and goes out of her way to make sure that you are happy. We had a couple of issues during our stay but Amanda did all she could to help. Her staff are also outstanding and do everything with a smile. The rooms are basic but this is part of the charm. There are a few little shops for snacks on the main road which is about a 10 minute walk. You can also pick up a tuk tuk from the main road if you want to go further afield. We loved it here & will definitely be back!

Our host Mandy was so welcoming and warm. She does her best to fulfil the wishes of her guests. The staff is friendly and helpful, the premises our lovely, the beach is beautiful and the food is delicious. We stayed in the cabaña, sleeping to the sound of the waves, which was great.

Amazing location and amazing host!

Absolutely loved our stay here. An idyllic setting right on the beach, with the softest sand and clear blue water. The staff made our stay, all so friendly and welcoming, especially the owner Mandy. She welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel right at home, she can't do enough for you! Food is also amazing and home cooked - we ate all of our meals here over the 3 days. Highly recommend a stay!

No complaints!

This was my favourite hotel of our 2 week holiday in Sri Lanka. As soon as you arrive you see the most beautiful tropical beach, with barely anyone on it. The host, Mandy, is so kind and makes you feel so welcome. We ate every meal here in our 3 days as the food is delicious and you couldn’t get a nicer spot on the beach to have dinner. Mandy also organised a snorkelling trip to Pigeon Island for us, which was fabulous. I definitely hope to return!

Very nice location directly on the beach. You are alone with some other guests and we loved it. Amanda is very kind and helps us with every question. The breakfast and dinner was very good. We fully recommend the stay.

Mandy and her partner were fantastic hosts and I had a lovely stay. The location is excellent, right on the beach and away from other hotels. Nice rooms with AC, I woke up to the sound of the waves and enjoyed relaxing by the sea. The food was delicious too. Mandy arranged for airport transport also. Nothing was too much trouble and felt like I was staying with friends/family, had a great time and will certainly be back if I return to Sri Lanka.

You will not regret booking to stay here! The property is lovely and wholesome and in a beautiful location. The menu at the restaurant is the best we saw in Sri Lanka and the food was gorgeous. This place is an absolute gem. An surprisingly peaceful and a very beautiful place with oustanding (fresh) food. Mandy and her staff are responsible for making you feel incredibly welcome. We can highly recommend this place as perfect as it is. During our stay I proposed to my girlfriend. Mandy helped and arranged everything for a perfect night we will never forget. We recommend the cabana because this is quite romantic and you wake up with the sound of waves. During the day we did not leave the place because they have everything you need during the day.

Owners are awesome, helpful, any issue they deal with quickly. Good food, go for lical cuidine they will surprize you if you challenge them.

Beach not so clean, likely due to recent storms. Should be cleaned soon by local authorities.

This place is a real treasure! It is literally right on a beautiful strip of Nilaveli beach and feels so relaxing. Mandy and her team are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. I will definitely stay here again and can highly recommend it!

Magnificent location, right on a beautiful beach really great for swimming and sunrises. Outstanding food, really friendly and helpful hostess Mandy who makes you feel totally at home. Great place to meet other traveller's. Cabin was basic but had super comfy bed and even A/C and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean was pure magic! Loved the cows on the beach too. One of my favourite stays in Sri Lanka!

Food orders take 40 mins to an hour , so don't wait til you are hungry to order! Amazing food though so worth the wait. Cabin could do with a little TLC, but I loved it anyway!! Rubbish on the beach nearby was off putting.

Everything was perfect. Mandy couldn't do enough for us . The food was fantastic. We will return.

Everything. It's a stunning location. And so relaxing to be there. It felt like home.

Stepping from the room right onto the beach. The peacefullness of it all. The cooking! The hammocks for reading under the palms. And the dogs! A cracking stay on the east coast.

The host Mandy and the staff made our stay enjoyable.

The solar hot water system did not have an electric booster so on cloudy days the water (shower) is cold.

This is a beautiful beachfront property to stay at. The view was amazing with the sound of the waves. Just sit back and relax. Amanda was an amazing host. Very friendly and helpful. She even drove us to the nearest bus stand herself as we had a bus to catch. She offered us some really tasty and delicious local cuisine. String hoppers, dal and potato curry with coconut sambol. Thoroughly loved the experience of staying here for 2 days.

Nothing much. Just some minor issues which were fixed promptly once we reached out. Little remote so it's better to rent something or use local buses as tuktuks are expensive there
