Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff was exceptional. The room spacious and comfortable. I didn't expect how good the service was and the friendliness of the staff.
A little more information about the parking and the restaurant.
Great staff, central location
The spaciousness of the room. Very comfortable. Great location. Helpful staff.
Excellent staff at reception. Such good advice for restaurants. The breakfast was superb
The staff were extremely friendly & helpful.
The rooms seemed a little smaller than we expected. Our room with the king bed was great but our travelling companions Queen room seemed a bit tight. Unfortunately they weren’t able to book another king room.
Excellent location! We were there for a family wedding and every place was within a few blocks. Also lots of funky vintage shops and great eateries, and the local farmer’s market was a wonderful Saturday morning excursion. The room was very comfortable with nice touches (cushy bathrobes, coffee) and so quiet I wondered if there were any other guests on the floor! Staff were very friendly, accommodating and genuinely interested in us having an optimal stay. Shoutout to the amazing Reception desk staff: Israel, Jared and Jelina, all wonderful people! Also the very kind gentleman who gave me some extra coffee pods late Saturday night! We also loved the ambiance and history, especially learning about Al Capone and the Rum Runners. We will definitely be returning to the Walper!
Nothing, it exceeded our expectations! (Did wish the Breakfast menu had pancakes, but still found tasty options)
The room was spacious and clean. I loved the walk-in shower. The staff were friendly and the location was good. Parking was across the street in a parking garage, so that was all right.
Someone knocked on my door at 10:00 a.m. even though I had the 'Do not disturb' sign up.
It’s a landmark that we admired when we lived down the road decades ago. It’s so close to Victoria Park which we enjoyed revisiting. We walked to a great Indian Restaurant for supper.
Parking lot as offsite but still close. Kitchener has some tough issues to deal with.
The location is excellent for nearby bars with live music. Central to nearby amenities. The staff are very friendly and eager to help out. The parking garage next to the hotel is convenient. There is a lot of history here which is preserved in the design of the rooms.
The rooms are a lackluster for the price. Very small bathroom. The carpets looked dirty, but that may have been partially the design. The mini fridge was also extremely small. Wouldn't fit more than a few water bottles.
I requested that I have a room facing away from the street as I am a light sleeper and needed rest to participate in on campus classes for the week. They heard my request, noted it upon check in, and gave me a very peaceful and comfortable room. I was so impressed that they remembered when I arrived and not simply when matching me to a room. The customer service and comfort was excellent!
I would have liked a microwave, but at the same time I didn't go out of my way to ask for one or if one was available.
Conveniently located. Clean. Great Staff.
We were on the 4th floor facing Queen St. and between the traffic noise and people yelling on the street we had a difficult time sleeping. Around 2am things would calm down, but before that it was incredibly loud. I had to use earplugs and a noise machine app to try and drown out the noise. It would also be nice to have coffee in the lobby for those guests who prefer a bigger coffee in the morning. The Nespresso machines are great, but the coffees are tiny.
Beautiful character amazing staff and a lovely room. Stayed with my partner we loved the experience will be back for our engagement.
Almost everything in the room was perfect
The pillows, and there could have been extra ones available in the armoir
This hotel was pre booked and paid for almost 2 month in advance for a graduation on Friday June 15th, 2026. We checked in on Thursday night the 14th of June. The water for hotel was being fixed. Ok we thought, it’s Thurs night. The next morning at 9 AM we had a social work Masters graduation to attend at Sir Wilmer Laurier. We did BUT with no showers as only cold water and not much available. We were told by the manager Mr.MarceloEspinosa@walper.com that the hotel would take care of our inconvenience and money paid in advance at $864.00. Confirmation # H16565770. We were promised the value by card for this same hotel any where in Ontario. To date, nothing has been received, even after two inquiries to Mr. Espinosa ‘s email. I feel that we were duped, the reception knew the water was off the night we checked in , and didn’t tell us ,especially being prepaid. The water was minimum and only COLD the day of our graduation. No Showers!!!
Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was very nice. Breakfast in the restaurant was super. No microwave in the room
Good atmosphere.
Hot water takes time I waited more than 5 minutes but didn’t get.in the morning it was ok.
Location
The included breakfast was order off the menu which would have been fine except one woman was taking care of the entire restaurant and completely overwhelmed. I give her credit for staying calm. Get her some help please.
The property is great and clean.Kind guest service.
The Walper is conveniently located within a 7 min walk from the Centre in the Square. The hotel is modern and clean with excellent helpful staff. Would stay here again.
There was an issue with the temp control in our shower. They made note of it when I told them about it at checkout to have it fixed.
Great boutique hotel, rooms are small but efficient, try not to get room facing rear parking lot, the 3am garbage truck will wake you
Great hotel, centre of town, great restaurant on site, comfortable beds, funky style. Loved it all. Booked again for next year's Blues fest.
The room was spacious and comfortable. Everything was clean. Staff were very friendly and accommodating! Its a beautiful hotel and renovated.
Location, clean
Water pressure, ice machine, water in fitness room water cooler
Location, close to event i was attending
Room was noisy from room above and outside. The bed was uncomfortable and the comforter was too heavy
Hotel molto carino nella via principale. Pulito e con un ottima palestra!
Colazione devo purtroppo dire davvero terribile
I didn't expect a historic hotel to be so completely modern, with high end touches like Peloton gym equipment and a quality restaurant and separate bar. Also, the parking with in and out privileges worked seamlessly. Front desk staff were particularly warm. It's worth staying downtown to go here.
I would not return disappointed some of our requests were basic like linen or hot coffee and car-parking it was not acceptable we paid to park our car and staff were in the parks and we had to wait for them to move vacate there car so we could pay in our paid parking
A bit pricey for what you get, but overall a decent hotel. Location is convenient for access to downtown, but parking is a problem.
Close accessibility to all the good things needed on a trip, bank atms, coffee shops, restaurants public transportation etc, police and libraries and even salons! If you are there for Canadian immigration and other related stuff all the major passport, justice and citizenship offices are nearby. If you’re an art lover you’d love the small galleries and museum at walking distance.
I like everything!
Beautiful old restored building right in the heart of K/W. Queen room was a bit spartan, but spotlessly clean and well-appointed - the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. Minor issue with the TV but housekeeping was immediately responsive. Restaurant was likewise great. My only caveat is that it's very much downtown - if you're travelling with small kids or otherwise need total peace and quiet to relax I'd definitely not book a city view room, and be cautious about the rest.
Great boutique hotel. Absolutely central. Big rooms with a blend of historic and modern decor. Staff were great. Parking was easy. It was a return visit for us and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in this region if you're looking for weekend accommodation.
Nothing
Comfortable, quiet room. Big enough for two for a night. Coffee maker worked well and made good coffee. Huge bed! Parking cost was reasonable, and the integrated system with the garage across the street worked beautifully, allowing us to come and go as we wished with a plate-scanning gate. That was very welcome.
A microwave and slightly larger fridge would have been nice.
Clean

An ideal location for the city centre, restaurants and bars.
Very clean hotel with most helpful pleasant staff
Breakfast area was very dark
Rooms, Location, Atmosphere, cleaning. Staff and especially Israel was great. Relaxing. Peaceful environment, with a good restaurant with nice workers and music was very relaxing
It’s newly renovated, very clean and nicely organized Staff is helpful
There was construction on a building next-door that we questioned if they would be working into the night and requested that we be moved if that were the case. This never happened and it kept us up most of the night. There’s also a number of homeless people in the core of the town and they do a lot of yelling This is nothing that the hotel can do anything about it. It’s just an annoyance.
Location was perfect! Room was beautiful and very clean and cool!! Quiet and comfortable
No issues at all
Great grounds and room was awesome
Exceptional value, clean, friendly and helpful staff, lovely rooms with a real boutique feel. Lots of local attractions and excellent food choices. Easy access to transport links and low cost travel on GO Trains to Toronto. Station only 10 mins walk from hotel. My second stay of many more to come.
We recently stayed here and noticed a recurring issue that significantly impacted our experience. Walking past people smoking right at the main entrance is never pleasant, but it is especially disappointing when those smokers are the hotel's own staff members. As a guest, it feels highly unprofessional to have to walk through a cloud of secondhand smoke generated by the team working there. It created a poor first impression and takes away from the otherwise welcoming atmosphere. I truly hope management establishes a designated break area away from the main entrance to keep the entryway clean and inviting for everyone.

The hotel was great. Perfect central location & easy access public transportation. The staff were outstanding. Extremely friendly & helpful 😊
Nothing
The Hotel is gorgeous and unique. There is paid parking close buy that isn’t difficult to find. Staff were very nice and accommodating.
Very friendly staff. Very modern room. Great restaurant
Very limited parking for hotel guests.
We really enjoyed our stay! The staff were so accommodating, and the hotel and rooms were super clean. The bed was really comfy too! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone traveling that way. We had a wedding in Elora, and it was worth the drive to the Walper.
Location is everything!! Walking distance to everything you need and staff are incredible!
No complaints! Perfect for our girls weekend!
The pillows were not amazing however, the bed was really comfortable.
Pillows!
Awesome spot! Would recommend. Helpful/friendly staff, clean up dated rooms. Close to restaurants and entertainment.
It was walking distance in downtown Kitchener. No carpets on the room!
Nothing really. It was a perfectly good for what I needed.
Nice old building clean large room right in the middle of town
Nothing suited my needs
Great location, easy parking and great staff. Rooms are ample in size. We will be back when we are in the area. Staff were excellent, on site restaurant was also very good.
We stayed at the Walper while attending a wedding in the area. The decor and atmosphere were quite nice and match the photos. The room was spotlessly clean. The location is central and walking distance from many good restaurants/bars and some shops. The location and cleanliness are the highlights of this hotel! That said, for the cost per night, the hotel was lacking in some services/amenities that would have made our 2-night stay a true experience and sparked a return. 1. In-Room Service/Mini-bar: None. Two bottles of water and some coffee pods, no option to order food to the room. You have to access streaming services through your phone to watch movies, or watch basic cable. TV cut out several times throughout the stay. 2. Long wait times for Onsite Restaurants: The onsite restaurant/cocktail lounge was very busy due to a wedding party check-out. It took 1.5hrs to receive our breakfast order (bacon & eggs, nothing fancy). That said, the server was fantastic and kept our coffees refreshed regularly. No complaints on the staff! 3. No spa/pool/ sauna: There are no leisure facilities in the hotel aside from a very basic gym. On a rainy day when town exploration was unappealing, we spent the entire day in our room wishing there was room service and more movies. 4. Room comfort: Thin walls and old windows meant we had a lot of noise throughout the night from the elevator, and our windows rattles constantly in the rain. The pillows were hard and thin. 5. Parking??? Parking instructions were vague and confusing. While the hotel "validates" parking, we paid more on our check out bill than at the lot. Only a $2 difference, but it was confusing and we may have paid twice! We enjoyed our stay, but didn't feel it was good value or a "4-star" stay based on the above.
A beautiful and inviting property in the heart of Kitchener. Each time I walked in the lobby the elevator was waiting to take me to my floor. Such a thoughtful feature.
The Staff at the Front Desk were very friendly and went out of their way to help us.
The noise from the motorcycles but after 9:00 it stopped.
Very charming Hotel. Beautiful historic building wonderfully preserved.

Staff were awesome 10/10. Great location.
Some new pillows - we didn't find them comfortable. Had to pay extra for parking.
Excellent customer service
Wish my Hyatt points could have been linked since I booked though booking.com and not directly with the hotel.
Particular the staff VERY PLEASANT and EXCELLENT COMUNICATERS
THE BED VERY CLEAN BUT NOT TOO CONFORTABLE
Great location. Kind stuff
Location to Center in the Square and restaurants
Had to request a space heater for our room as it was very chilly and the thermostat appeared to be not working properly
Excellent service, great location, fabulous decor and feel.
Bathroom right next to bed
Top notch staff provided excellent customer service. Great food and interesting meeting space that stands out from the average.
When checking into The Walper Hotel, the staff were welcoming and insightful when I needed help with the administrative portions of checking in like payment of the room and the length of my stay properly explaining that they would need to check ID to make sure my ID did match the person that was on the reservation. After checking in, the status of the room was quite clean. The bed, washroom and nightstands were well kept and in good order. The only complaint I would have, was the lack of soundproofing of the rooms as I was able to sometimes hear the hallways and the noise from outside rather well. Having understood the context that The Walper Hotel has been in service since 1893, I understood that soundproofing rooms could be challenging so if I needed to play music, I just kept a pair of headphones on at all times. Checking out was smooth, Jelena made sure that the checkout process went well and even asked me how my stay at the hotel was for a wedding. Asking about the cleanliness of the room to the quality of service to which I told it that everything went smoothly and the quality of service was excellent.
Hotel super duper cool, room was awesome (bath was a little small). Parking is a bit weird, they will charge you if you dare to the car
Excellent place to stay. Central location, Clean and Staff very helpful. Did not participate in any dining features as there were so mamy close by.
Rooms were clean
Very noisy. Street noise and you can hear every footstep of the people in the rooms above. Rooms are fine and clean but small. No security. No card access on elevator and didn’t seem very secure given location.
Location was excellent (right downtown) and rooms and atmosphere was great. The room was clean, cozy and modern feeling. There were a few uncleaned lipstick marks in the bathroom though…! If you want less noise take a room that does not look out onto the main street. The restaurant was excellent and the chef was great and even adapted his meal to my dietary needs and came to see if I had enjoyed it! The service was excellent in the restaurant downstairs. The front desk workers were not very proactive about telling us there was an issue with the hot water. We spent two days taking cold showers and nothing was offered to us to compensate until we asked. I was asked not to share the discount I got for the inconvenience with my friends as they did not want to give an additional discount to others who had the same issue. That felt very unprofessional and lacking in honesty. Disappointing!
The staff at the front desk was so helpful and went the extra mile and hotel is clean and great location!!!
Although we did get a valet spot the parking isn't the best
Very friendly and helpful staff, clean and cozy room, and I loved the cute little touches that made me feel welcome in a strange city.
Location is close to alot of places to eat.Room was nice, bed was comfortable. The shower had hot water the whole time and was really relaxing.
Close to our concert event and lots of restaurant options
the walls were a little thin ,but it was a saturday night.
It is right in the middle of downtown Kitchener. Perfect location but parking is very difficult. We did purchase parking which you really have no other choice but it was convenient.
We found it rather cold in our room with the air ( supposed to be heat) blowing right on us. We didn't get a great nights sleep. Not a fan of feather pillows. Next time we will bring our own. Was a pleasant stay otherwise. We were not really there long enough to really experience it fully.
The Walper provided a modern experience in a historic hotel. All the spaces were updated beautifully, including the rooms and meeting spaces. I did not use the ballroom during my stay, but this space is elegant and historically preserved and would be fabulous for a large party, meeting or wedding. The modern fitness facility had Peloton bikes, treadmills, free weights and a weight machine which was very comprehensive. Due to it's status as a historic property, it does have it's quirks like not being able to control the temperature in each room individually, however, the front desk staff was very responsive and brought up a space heater which did the job. I found the staff to be very responsive, genuinely kind and accommodating. The restaurant had very good menu choices for breakfast and dinner and the staff there was also professional and attentive. I stayed 4 nights and would stay there again while visiting Kitchener.
Open your wallet & be prepared to be underwhelmed ... Absolutly outrageous costs for what is delivered, parking $25 when paying over $200 a night , resturant, way overpriced for what they deliver, and the room we had was tiny, with no furniture , hell the T,V wasnt even H.D ... while the hotel is noce, the value for the cost is out of touch... Downtown location, nothing but skids and crack heads stumbling around... never again , costs like this are he reason Air B&B have gained such a foot hold in the travel business
Lovely staff and great local transport links and shopping.
Nothing
We stayed on a weeknight in February (holiday weekend). We had no issues parking in the nearby garage which was easy to locate. The walk from the garage is only about 2 minutes through an alleyway. The front staff was very courteous and friendly. Room was spacious and clean. Our room faced Queen St and suffered a bit from street-level noise at night (4th floor) -- even on a quiet weeknight. The shower in the bathroom was barely warm at its hottest setting. The in-room thermostat could not be lowered more than 1C from its default 22C setting, which was too warm for sleeping (YMMV). Overall, given the rate (i.e. low season) it slightly exceeded my expectations for a hotel in this price range (and this day and age when even a budget hotel can easily hit $150/night). The standout was probably the breakfast at the nearby TWH Social restaurant which I strongly recommend.
Room was great value. Our restaurant experience was excellent especially our serve staff. Hotel employees caring helpful and friendly. They do need to improve their final billing experience. Almost a week later I am still waiting for the correct charges to appear on our Visa for our food stay and parking. We will return in future if our billing is correctly processed.
Beautiful property with nice character combined with modern bathroom. High ceilings. Staff excellent!
Hard to adjust water in shower. Make sure you use the wand and point away from yourself.
Location was excellent. Room very clean & spacious! Bathroom also fabulous
In the room, there was no place to put the suitcase such as a luggage rack. There were not drawers to put your clothes/ things. Therefore everything ended up on the floor.
Beautiful, clean and modern, very friendly staff - super central location
Parking validation is ambiguous, TV-phone mirroring system it inconsistent
The room was clean and cozy.
My only complaint was that the window seal wasn't as tight, so the room was quite cold, and we were there during the winter snowstorm weekend.
Parking
Staff
Wash basin because of water goes down very slow.
Modern decorated room which was a good size for a central hotel. shower was great but the toiletries very basic. Location was ok and staff were super pleasant. Very limited parking and first come first serve basis.
We were attending a concert in Kitchener. I didn't know what to expect with accommodations. This hotel was a huge surprize. Comfortable, very creative décor, and dimmers on overhead light fixtures - another unexpected detail. We discovered the restaurant in the basement for our included breakfast, and wished we had discovered in sooner rather than going out for dinner the previous evening before the concert.
Absolutely nothing!
Their reservations behaviors were amazing . Patient and kind.
We are at the restaurant in the basement for lunch and got coffee in the morning All very good
Cute hotel, giant room. Very comfortable beds. Great location. The staff was attentive.
Parking was across the street, if you had a lot of luggage, it could be a haul getting it to the hotel. Also, once you're across the street, you had to step up on the curb, and up a step (or 2 I can't remember) to get into the hotel. On the floor we were on there were 2 steps to get to our room. We did not have any issues with that, but if you have mobility issues, you will want to ask if there is an easier way to get in and out especially with luggage.
It was a beautiful stay!
The heating system sucked. We were the only ones in the restaurant we left.
Fantastic location in a beautiful historic building in downtown Kitchener. Easy access to the ion and iron horse trail. You can get anywhere tied like to go without needing to rent a car.
We were above the ballroom on a Saturday night so there was a wedding on but it was only a bit loud that one night.
The room was tastefully decorated and comfortable. The location was central Kitchener. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.
Nothing that I can think of.
Location, staff, amenities, decor, downstairs restaurants, walking distance to great food and centre in the square
Noise- none of us slept. Weve all travelled extensively and were surprised by how loud outside noise travelled (even with ear plugs and noise machines going). Will caveat this was wintertime and a streetplow kept coming by so maybe absent the plow the other typical street noise would have been manageable. I also note we faced street so perhaps if your room faced inner courtyard or back might have been quieter.
The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the room was pretty and well-appointed. The breakfast and dinner that we had in the basement restaurant were delicious. All the staff we interacted with were very kind and very helpful. One staff member even let me borrow a book from the lobby display. Thank you!
There were not enough hooks or towel bars in the bathroom to hang up towels or our toiletry kits. The only window in our room was partially blocked by the bed. The room could habe been configured differently so that the bed was on another wall and then the full window could be seen. On our second morning, the vent hood in the kitchen was down and we could not have breakfast there.
