Very handy location, right in the town centre.
Arundel is attractive and as a consequence we haive stayed at the Norfolk Arms Hotel several times. which surely is an endorsement for the place!. We like the charming old building and the attractive and comfortable rooms available, though this time, because of late booking, we had to settle for a small room.
No particular dislikes
Location was great, the town centre is on the doorstep and everything was within walking distance.
The car park was not designed for modern sized vehicles. The room was very warm and the only way to cool it was to leave windows open. To be expected with an old building, which was full of character.
The location was great. In the centre of town.
The room wasn’t quite what I was expecting for the money. From the pictures I was expecting a bit more luxurious . Breakfast was too expensive so we just went to a local cafe. A mini fridge would have been nice. No restaurant for September
Friendly welcome, comfy bed, great shower & bath
Noisy (our room was facing busy pub)
The property is a wonderfully charming and characteristic place. You get a real sense of history. The rooms are comfortable. I had a superior suite on one day and a single room on the other. Both were roomy and very comfortable. The location is perfect for visiting Arundel. If you are coming for cricket the walk is 10 mins to the Castle ground (albeit uphill!). There are loads of restaurants and cafes within 100m of the hotel.
Being hyper critical - the property is a bit tired in places. But it is 300 years old and it all adds to the charm.
Location, cleanliness
Very noisy but only because it’s an old building.
Very good location
Cleaning was not brilliant, hotel could do with a refurbished looking tired
Location Excellent Court Room although basic and tired, did allow for a quiet nights sleep at least.
Lack of main hotel restaurant not open until Autumn. Tired worn interior’s and carpets that needed a respectful refurbishment in keeping with the age and history of the building. Lack of proper bar area to sit and relax with a drink, snug bar never had a member of staff there and was not appealing at all unlike the sitting area which had what looked a makeover but was a meaningless area that no one used!! Lack of enough staff plus young inexperienced staff in Tap Room that at times were overwhelmed!. Also constant reminders of penalty charges by the Hotel. Late check in times!! Some Reception staff off handed. Room serviced inconsistent.
Alles prima naar verwachting
Nvt
Staff need to speak up and be more helpful and a smile would be nice
Male member of staff came to help with tv and he also served breakfast, no personality, quite snobby not good in any way , he acted like he was doing us a favour not good for the hotels
Beautiful building very comfortable and traditional
No lift ! But that’s to be expected in an old beautiful building of this age but it’s a consideration for anyone with mobility issues
Hotel was clean, comfortable and centrally located in Arundel. Close to many restarants and cafes and of course the castle. The staff were exceptionally helpful.
We liked that the hotel is centrally located and that there is parking available. Our room was quiet and it had everything we needed.
My view is first impressions count. I found the entrance looked rather tired. The carpet looked dirty and the orchid plant needs replacing with a nice large vase of flowers. The coffee at breakfast was awful.
The Norfolk Arms is a place we've returned to many times. In the heart of the town with old school charm. Always leave feeling rested and refreshed.
Nothing
Room and location. Also the receptionist was very personable and helpful -she deserves top rating just for herself!
We prefer to book direct but the number on the website initially took us to a remote source covering a number of hotels. We couldn't obtain any relevant information about the Norfolk Arms and it nearly put us of booking the hotel
Vicinanza al castello
Non sapevo che la camera era distante dalla hall reception
Location I guess
Soulless- no restaurant, very old fashioned. Parking a nighmare and expensive
Size of room
I like the location of the Hotel, within walking distance of many attractions.
No evening meal offered in the evening.
Excellent parking facilities in a busy town. Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable
All was fine
The Norfolk Arms is ideally situated in the centre of Arundel and everything is an easy walk from the hotel. The parking is safe and secure.
Too many messages from the accomodation before we arrived which seemed quite abrupt.
Excellent location. Very central to shops and restaurants.
The courtyard rooms were a little noisy at night. Room 104 is next to the entrance doors and with warm weather our window was open. People stopped to talk outside our room , often in loud voices then would open the doors and let them slam.
Great location, comfortable room
Our room was large, comfortable and quiet. Very clean.
Historic building in prime location.
We returned to this hotel to reminisce after 35 years although the building is charming it is clearly in need of refurbishing and updating. Unfortunately we were allocated in the annexe building which lacks the history of the main house. The breakfast was ok but carried an extra charge.
Great location for the castle, transportation, restaurants, etc. Historic property nicely restored on the lower level. Staff is very efficient and courteous.
Very hot upstairs with little ventilation even with the small fan. Paint and carpet need attention. Why on earth would you replace plumbing fixtures and not update to at least a single faucet system if not a single handle for temperature with single faucet?
Every member of staff we met; Sue, Lewis, Hannah, Caroline et al were friendly and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Our room was beautiful and the food was excellent. We will certainly be returning! Thank you to all who work so hard at the Norfolk Arms Hotel. Jane and Julien Ball
location
Location was fantastic right in the heart of Arundel and some rooms were quieter set in the back courtyard. Ours was on the front and so we had some road noise and could hear live music from the pub across the road even with the windows closed. Room was quite well set up with a kettle, free tea and coffee and water and decent towels, an iron and plenty of hangers
The bathroom door was very squeaky so impossible to use at night without disturbing the other sleeper. We asked for it to be oiled. It wasn’t. The toilet flush was underpowered and trickled on for a good ten mins - like water torture. The shower was weak. The pillows weren’t great.
Called in the Norfolk arms for lunch and was served the worst sandwich on basic supermarket bread what made it worse was the terrible salad it was served with which made it inedible ! the cucumber had clearly not been stored correctly and or left out at room temperature for a time, So i complained and asked for refund because i didn't eat it! the young lady behind the bar was very nice and apologized and she offered me another sandwich i really wanted a refund but accepted her offer,. the next thing i know the manager has come back from the kitchen brought the food back with her and was telling me there was nothing wrong with it ! in front of other customers as well so embarrassing for me and my family , so after that i just left would never go there again !
We had such a lovely stay at the hotel. Everyone was incredibly helpful, friendly and welcoming. It was so nice to see a friendly face and catch up with Maira and Coroline. The new manager Lewis made us feel very welcome.this made our experience very special. The food was also absolutely lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed it. A Beautiful hotel with fantastic staff, we would definitely recommend staying here and would happily come back! Can’t wait to see everyone again.
Location was great as well as car parking. Room was very large and comfortable bed and had sitting area .
Had to carry luggage many stairs to get to the room. No elevator . No bath / shower curtain the shower gets wet as it was only hand held but not attached as a shower head on the wall or ceiling . Very unhandy
The receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. My room at the top of the hotel was lovely, comfortable and clean.
Central location Friendly staff Lovely breakfast
What an amazing 45th wedding anniversary celebration we had from Friday to Sunday at the Norfolk Arms. We were very well looked after by Lewis, Sue and their team. We had a fabulous time. The food was amazing and we had a guest with specific dietary needs and he was looked after very well. The ballroom looked beautiful with arrangements of flowers and balloons locally sourced and an amazing cake all managed by the hotel. The rooms were lovely and comfortable and the staff were very friendly.
The room (Room 2) and its view
One window didn't open
Great location close to the castle. Bath took 40 minutes to fill, but raindrop shower was great.
Requested early check in,told they would try but no guarantee. Arrived an hour early, room not ready, that's fine. Eventually checked in & staff felt it necessary to tell me THREE TIMES i was early. Bit rude. Breakfast was ok, but 1 piece of bacon,1 sausage,1 fried egg, half a tomato, black pudding & beans left me hungry - filled up on croissants. Breakfast waitress was great, friendly & professional. Pillows and duvet stained (but clean).
Location
All a bit basic, including room, bar service and breakfast.
Super comfy bed gave us a great night's sleep. Fantastic location and definitely will be going back soon. Plenty of great restaurants in easy walking distance.
Weird restaurant and bar opening times.
Schone en ruime (bad)-kamer
My husband had a full English, loved it I couldn't manage that much so asked for just egg and tomatoes, very nice. Good selection of food to choose from.
The car parking fees could have been advertised initially. The fan in the room didn't address the heat problem, only one window would open. A small fridge for chilling drinks would be useful especially now we're aware the current weather could now be normal.
Location. Historic. Comfortable beds. Superb breakfast. Helpful receptionist
Location
Nothing
Mooi kamers met uitzicht op kasteel.
Parkeren ook voor gasten van het hotel betalen.
The location couldn’t be better. Lovely old building. Reception staff were great. On site parking (although tiny spaces unless you have a tiny car!)
Unfortunately, we weren’t in the lovely old building but in an annex at the back. No air conditioning but we couldn’t leave the window open as on the ground floor - and had a security light on all night, right outside the window. Neither of us enjoyed the breakfast which is very unusual for us
We stay here every year when we go to Glorious Goodwood (horse racing). It’s always clean and friendly and has a lot of history, I would also like to give a shout out to Alex ( breakfast). Both my father and I ( and we travel a lot) both said how great Alex was so well done and thank you.
Perfect central location for the cricket. Tasty breakfast. Parking convenient. Made for a great stay.
All good
Lovely character hotel in a great location. We had a great stay, we thought it was really good value for money. Rooms were well equipped and the breakfast was superb.
I arranged a buffet lunch for my Silver Jubilee of Priestly Ordination with 16 friends at the Norfolk Arms Hotel. From the fist email contact to with Lewis the General Manager to meeting him everything went very well indeed and Lewis couldn't have been more helpful. Our discussion led to a really delicious varied buffet within my price range. We were welcomed on the day to a most comfortable lounge with a cooling Pimm's by Hannah who then went on to look after our celebration with a friendly service which was second to none. She looked after the children with little treats and after us all by bringing in more wonderful food. I cannot thank Lewis, Hannah and the kitchen staff enough for giving us such a warm welcome and for giving us a celebration to remember. Every guest said the same. I very strongly recommend the Norfolk Arms for your celebration, big or small.
Great hotel clean and welcoming . Nice room and staff friendly
Staff great , location great, comfy bed
Room and en-suite are a little worn , and room dusty in places (around lamps, fan , inside wardrobe) , would ask to be away from main corridor door next time , due to door banging behind other guests
From the moment we arrived two days before our wedding until the moment we checked out, the whole team at the Norfolk Arms made us feel so welcome and genuinely cared for. We truly felt like honoured guests, and nothing was ever too much trouble. We wanted to spend a couple of days in beautiful Arundel as a family before the wedding, and the hotel made it such a relaxing and memorable experience. We were greeted with drinks in our room on arrival, and from then on the service was exceptional. A special mention has to go to Karen, the wedding coordinator, who was simply amazing. She met us in the ballroom beforehand while we decorated it ourselves, helped us rehearse the music and timings, and throughout the whole process made everything feel effortless. On the wedding day itself, she looked after me so attentively that all I had to think about was getting ready and enjoying every moment. The entire day ran seamlessly thanks to the care, professionalism and attention to detail of the whole team. Every member of staff worked so hard both behind the scenes and serving our guests to ensure everything was perfect. The food was outstanding from start to finish. The canapés were delicious, the wedding breakfast was beautifully presented with incredibly generous portions, and the evening buffet was equally fantastic. So many of our guests commented on both the quality and quantity of the food. Our heartfelt thanks go to Lewis, the General Manager and Head Chef who, together with his talented chefs, Ajan, Charmaine, and Martin provided incredible food throughout the day. The wonderful front-of-house team Edwin, Hannah, Karen, Alice, and Leo worked seamlessly with Karen, to make our wedding and stay truly unforgettable. We honestly couldn’t have wished for a better venue or a more caring team to celebrate one of the most important days of our lives. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The perfect combination personal service and VIP experience. If you’re looking for a venue where you’ll be genuinely looked after by people who clearly care about making your day perfect, this is it.
Good location and an interesting town to explore, easy to visit the coast and surrounding areas.
Amazing historic building.
The neighbouring room had the tv on the same wall as our rooms bed and they were watching it very loudly until midnight. Thankfully they did turn it off finally at 12am.
1. A charge to park the car at the hotel which we didn't know about till we arrived. No dinner options, so had to use a restaurant in the town
My wife and I came here to celebrate our two birthdays. This was a surprise birthday treat from our children. We had cream teas and full English breakfast included in the package. Our room was very pleasant, clean, quiet and comfortable. The view from the window could have been more interesting. To compensate for this slight disappointment the general manager, Mr lewis, presented us with a bottle of prosecco and strawberries with melted chocolate when we had our cream teas. This was a kind and generous gesture that certainly increased our overall enjoyment. The Norfolk Arms Hotel is an ideal location for exploring Arundel and the surrounding area.It is very convenient that parking is available in the hotel grounds.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location - it is a 10-minute walk to the train station and the main entrance to the castle is very close. The room was comfortable and clean. Our room was on the top floor. The steps were not a problem for us, but if stairs are an issue, I would suggest reserving a room on a lower floor.
Schönes altes verwinkeltes Gebäude im englischen Stil. Gute Parkmöglichkeit.
Die Wege zu den oberen Zimmern sind ein wenig anstrengend aber auch witzig.
our room was fabulous, really spacious and with three windows that we could open to keep the room cool in the current heatwave. Hotel is in a great location and the parking is good.
When asked if we wanted a breakfast we were just shown a picture with the choice of full english or continental. I would have expected a menu with some choices for vegetarians. Because of this we did not have breakfast at the hotel. There was no lift and i would have expected someone to offer to take our cases up to the room.
Great selection at breakfast
Location bed very comfortable
Lots of stairs
Hey Reception was incredible. Marriott accommodating really appreciated all the staff there they were top-notch rooms were beautiful.
I know it’s not their fault but it was pretty hot. We were on the third floor and they can’t put an air-conditioning units because of the historical building factor we did have a fan so summer is a bit hot.
Location was good. Staff were helpful.
No evening restuarantl
The bar was not well stocked, ie no alcohol i.e. brandy, available for a nightcap with friends
Beautiful location, stunning hotel amazing staff friendly professional a great experience.
Nothing I can think of.
Excellent love to stay
Nothing loved it
We recently visited the Norfolk Arms in Arundel and had a mixed experience. The outdoor restaurant area isn’t particularly easy to find, and better signage would make it much more welcoming for first-time visitors. Once seated, the service was pleasant enough but quite slow, especially considering we only ordered sandwiches and a pizza. We waited much longer than expected for such a simple meals… That said, the homemade pizzas were excellent—fresh, generously topped and full of flavour. They were definitely the highlight of our visit and made the wait a little easier to forgive. Overall, the food quality was good, but improvements to the speed of service and clearer directions to the outdoor dining area would make for a much better customer experience.
Great location and comfortable, well-equipped room. Particularly Like the secure parking.
The signage said food available when it actually wasn’t. We tried twice to order food and drinks but none were available, even though the board outside said otherwise.
The room looked out onto the street, which is a pleasant and interesting view. It was a bit noisy on Saturday night but did settle down by midnight.
I had to wipe down a lot of the surfaces in my room as they were very dusty. Overall the decor of the room and the bathroom was quite tired and needed a spruce up. The breakfast was an extra £15.50 per person and it was extremely disappointing in terms of quality and quantity. We were seated promptly in the breakfast room and then ignored for more than 20 minutes. We eventually managed to attract the attention of a member of staff. Also during breakfast another guest came in to take photographs of the room. I think that should only happen outside of the breakfast period. I definitely would not recommend the breakfast but the room itself is very characterful.
Location was great
Communal areas were a little dated
Location Facilities / water in the room Courtyard probably a better option than the main building as newer
It was too hot & no air conditioning A fan was provided but did very little Not the fault of the hotel as unusual weather
The location
Bar closed at 8pm on a Friday and we were not being advised of a residents bar. However that was serving guests either!
Great location on high street with car parking Excellent friendly staff and good service Nice large room in main hotel
Breakfast room is small for size of hotel
This was our second stay at this hotel. The room was immaculate, fan was on and bottled water was in the room which was a lovely gesture due to the hot weather. Location and private parking all fab
Nothing not to like!!
Great location, very clean, nice size room.
Rather expensive for what you get, having said that it is in a prime location
From booking the room online through to checking out everything was straightforward. Easy to park on arrival, room was exceptionally clean and had everything needed in it, including a fan already in the room without having to ask for one on what was one of the hottest days of the year - much appreciated. Comfy bed. Polite, friendly and helpful staff. Thank you.
The history, bar and lounge areas
Location for Arundel city centre and castle is perfect
It could do with being air conditioned in a very hot summer
The bed was fantastic. It was so huge and comfortable
Was put in the stable room ground floor. Boiling hot and when I left windows open someone who was drunk tried to look in and shout. I had to shut all windows for safety which made room stifling . Room needed updating. Parking was a nightmare the spaces too small
Dear Lewis, What an absolutely fabulous experience we had at the Norfolk Arms. Thank you so much for making my mothers birthday such a fantastic day to remember. Yourself, Hannah, Alice and chef went above and beyond to make the day a wonderful memory. Arranging drinks in the bar first on such a hot day was perfect and all the extra food, mini prawn cocktails and vol au vents along with all the delicious sweet cakes were noted and super appreciated. And there was not a dry glass in the Club Room at any time. We shall certainly be returning soon, hopefully for a roast lunch which has been highly praised. Best of luck with your new team and many thanks again, Rachel
I celebrated my 90th birthday with 40 family and friends with an afternoon tea at the Norfolk Arms and have run out of superlatives describing the care, attention to detail and the entire presentation as being fantastic. The staff were patient and courteous and attentive to our needs and full marks to the chef with the variety teatime delicacies created. Congratulations to Lewis, the new general manager, on a great start.
Room was comfortable and clean.
The location was great
The room was large and comfortable. A fan was provided due to the hot weather. Nice clean bathroom and comy bed. The full English breakfast was decent. We liked the tap room bar.
Room was spacious and as described on booking.com. The hotel was also in a great location.
There wasn't anything that we disliked about the accommodation and we'd stay here again.
Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was delicious and the service superb. The location was excellent.
Unique old fashioned hotel
A bit rambling
Right in the centre of Arundel. The hotel is full of character. The staff were genuinely friendly, considerate and very helpful. I was staying with 2 small terriers. The hotel is very dog friendly. My terriers were made to feel most welcome as was I. I will definitely stay at the hotel again.
Everything it was a lovely place
Nothing
It was very convenient to base from. Train was very handy. Some very good restaurants in town.
They did state there was no elevator but there were lots of stairs to carry luggage up. No shower and tub very slippery. Use the provided rubber mat.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful. we had a complimentary room upgrade we which was a exceeded are expectations, the room was very clean and tidy. the car parking facilities were appreciated . The breakfast was very good .
nil to complain about ,
Brilliant location. Very comfortable hotel. Nice facilities. Tap Room was a welcome addition. Excellent car parking for a town centre hotel.
It’s very nice, quirky hotel, breakfast was good. I imagine the rooms in the main part of the hotel are more interesting and probably a bit bigger. The room we stayed in had a very cramped bathroom/ toilet not so easy to negotiate
