Villa SPACE

What an incredible place! This is easily the best accommodation in Unawatuna. We initially booked four nights but loved it so much that we ended up staying for the whole week. The villa is beautifully designed, with a spacious lobby, lush tropical gardens, a large swimming pool, and a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. The beach is only a short walk away and, thanks to its sheltered bay and calm waters, you can swim there all year round. The climb back to the villa is easy, even for someone like me who is not sporty at all! A tuk-tuk service is also available to take you anywhere in Unawatuna or to Galle Fort. We especially loved having breakfast with views of the palm trees and the sound of the waves. The food was excellent, so we ate at the villa most of the time and highly recommend it. Julia and her team were amazing. They were so warm and helpful that we felt as though we were staying with good friends. We had a fantastic stay and can’t wait to return!

I can’t think of anything not to like

This place is divine. So beautiful in every way. The decor is stunning and the food delicious. Dishan served us in the bar and restaurant and is the perfect host. He really made the place; pure Sri Lankan hospitality.

The only think I didn’t like was the fact that they didn’t extend the hospitable welcome drink to our driver/guide. Most hotels recognise how important the guides are and include them in the niceties. We felt sad that he wasn’t offered a coconut.

Beautiful villa style hotel with a really relaxed feel. We really loved the large dining /kitchen room , such fabulous decorations and statues completed a luxurious feel to the property . The staff were excellent and very attentive. We enjoyed a lovely few days relaxing, enjoying the pool and eating the lovely breakfast selection. Very special .

For et nydelig sted! Etter 8 dager på en fin rundreise på Sri Lanka, bodde vi 4 netter på Space Villa. Hotellet ligger på en høyde over Unawatuna med en flott havutsikt. Det er kun 6 rom. de er store og komfortable med vakre detaljer, flott bad med herlig utedusj. Personale er veldig hyggelig og yter super service, maten er et kapitel for seg, vel tilberedt og smakfull. Hele villaen er dekorert med vakre antikviteter, og det føles mer som et hjem enn et hotell. Her finner du roen.

Ingenting å klage på, eneste utfordring kanskje, er siste bakke opp til stedet. Den er ikke lang, men bratt :-)

Beautifully designed rooms. The shared/common areas such as the pool, balcony and kitchen are thoughtfully arranged with great attention to detail. The staff is very attentive and welcoming. The Place is about 150m uphill the main street and therefore a surprisingly calm and quiet venue in Unawatuna. The House is surrounded by jugle like vegetation with many rare birds just jumping around at your porch. There are some mosquitoes, of course, but with the provided net, AC and Ventilation everywhere you won't get bitten at all. One of the best places I stayed so for with a good value for money.

Just a small downside: breakfast and food at the Hotel is quite expensive (but very good)

Fantastisk villa som ligger rett ved sentrum. Fantastisk vert, god service og rommene var formidable. Vi hadde det helt fantastisk under vårt opphold og de strakk seg veldig langt for å gi oss god service. Opplevdes som om vi hadde hele villaen for oss selv.

Каждый день мы просыпались с потрясающим настроением и с таким же засыпали Это был незабываемый номер, видовая гостиная, интерьер, завтрак, посуда, диван в гостиной, с которого не хочется вставать, этот пол, по которому хочется ходить только босиком. От тактильности, от фактур настоящего дерева, от визуала мы кайфовали каждую минуту. Спасибо этому месту, этой вилле, что сделали наш отдых ярче. Очень красивая вилла. Номер, общая зона где проходит завтрак. Все выглядит как будто ты находишься в музеи истории Шри ланки. Очень красиво все оформлено. Вкусные завтраки

Our stay at Villa Space was absolutely beautiful. I have stayed in more expensive places but never any as lovely as Villa Space. Stunning room and bathroom with a grand deck out the front. Every piece was well thought out. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and the service was without fault. Nothing was too much trouble. I can’t recommend Villa Space enough. Actually, I can… the location! A two minute walk to a beautiful swimming beach.

It was such a delight to be there we didn’t explore the area much. We loved everything about the property.

Incredible Villa looking out over the Indian Ocean. The open air living spaces was amazing. Easy walk down to some cool restaurants and beautiful beach or just hang at the pool. Breakfast was top notch. We were really happy to discover this place.

The property was exquisite, the service impeccable, the interior showed rare antique pieces. Overall the perfect place to relax and unwind. The room - facing on the villa's terrace with ocean views - was decorated to perfection, the bed was extremely comfortable, the AC and Wi-Fi were high quality, and it had an amazing open bathroom with a private outdoor shower, that felt like showering in the rain in the jungle. All the amenities were top quality, and the design of the whole place was very thought through. It felt like being in the White Lotus of Sri Lanka.

The food was limited and expensive. I understand the pricing, given the standard and quality of this place, but I would have loved to see more variety and more local food options.

Property is really nice, located on a hill with an amazing view to the ocean. Rooms are beautiful and the restaurant area is impressive. We loved it.

Nothing ro mention for the 3 days we stayed there.

The property was perched on the top of the hill with a gorgeous view of Unawatuna's bay. There was a long verandah outside the "living room" with chairs placed in thoughtful groups along its length. The living room was welcoming and the bedroom very comfortable. There was a pool set below the house which was very pleasant to spend time around. Breakfast was delicious.

The flight of stairs to the main living area was very long! The property wouldn't suit less mobile people. My bathroom was an indoor/outdoor arrangement with the shower in the private courtyard garden - it was lovely, but there were tons of mosquitoes. The swarming mosquito population extended to the living room. Think there should have been some mosquito management. The pool was pleasant, but it was a long walk up to the kitchen area to get water/refreshments - would be good to have refreshments available in the pool area.

We really loved the views, design and facilities at Villa Space. The rooms are lovely with designer touches and super comfortable beds, the decor would work equally well in an upscale beachside home anywhere however there were distinctly Sri Lankan furnishings. The view from the upstairs rooms 1 & 2 and the living room/veranda (available to all) is fabulous, this place is like staying at a stylish friend's house with staff. The food is definitely restaurant quality and, as per staying at a friend's house, you decide in the morning if you will be in dining in for lunch and/or dinner and the breakfast included in the rate was different every day with a great range of options both Sri Lankan and Western. The guys who serve meals/drinks and help you navigate your day are fabulous, both Supine and Dilshan particularly were fantastic, and nothing was ever too much of a bother.

There were only a few negatives at this lovely place. There is a very steep road to get to it and then around 60 stairs from the front gate to the Living room area, not for the faint hearted or anyone with a mobility issue, making you think twice about going for a walk. Mind you it doubled as a workout however there is a Tuk Tuk onsite to take you down to the shopping restaurant area of Unawatuna! Also, the tiles in the pool were quite slippery and in a couple of spots had sharp edges. The rainfall shower in Room 2 looks fabulous but didn't have sufficient water pressure when you are tyring to rinse shampoo out of thick hair, a hand held shower as well as the rainfall shower would make it ideal.

We booked the room short term in the early morning for the same early day and Julia was quick and very flexible in her response which really saved our last few days. We’ve been to the villa a few years ago and enjoyed it so much. It’s beautiful to see that the place is still well maintained and absolutely beautiful. The room was very clean and we felt so comfortable. The motto is space and you sure get your space and a feeling of pure relaxation. We also appreciated the good massage and the tasty food. We will sure be back for a third time. Thanks Julia for your hospitality!

One of our best experiences in Sri Lanka. Beautiful space with distinguishing design and service above all expectations. Separate compliments are for the menu and chef. Definitely will return again.

The place is stunning in every way , like something out of a bond film . It really is a place you can truly relax and forget about the outside world whilst still being able to observe it from afar . All fixtures and fittings are well designed and look great Pool area beautiful and full of nature ( monitor lizards , chipmunks , ghekos , birds …) Room layout great with plenty of storage , great air con and nice little touches like incense to burn . All staff very friendly and helpful without being intrusive . Free tuk tuk service was spot on Manager Julia very accommodating and prompt in responding to requests . Had by far the best massage in Sri Lanka here and in a beautiful setting This place isn’t particularly cheap but I think you get what you pay for and it is good value for the price . There are 6 rooms here and the place was full whilst we stayed but it is so spacious that you often forget anyone else is there at all

Villa is at top of a steep hill so if returning from town via tuk tuk drivers are likely to drop you before the steepest part . Only a 2 minute walk from there but just to be aware . Preferred to eat breakfast in town but that is just personal preference . Leaving

We stayed here for one night and it was absolutely fantastic. The staff were incredibly helpful and nice, the room absolutely amazing, wonderful view and a really nice pool area. The breakfast was incredibly good and well prepared. We would love to come back!

There is nothing to complain about.

For the first time I can rate a hotel with all 5 grades! It is such a stylish and luxurious hotel where every detail is a history like in a museum. The food is excellent, every day there is a new menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a very cozy lounge where you can sit, have a drink, listen to the music or read a book. A very nice lady Julia is working in the hotel. She organised a comfortable transfer for me, arranged a very late dinner as my flight was delayed, and she was always very welcoming, friendly to all the guests though the hotel was full and she seemed to be busy all the time. Nevertheless she devoted time to every guest! This was so nice of her! Planning to come back to this lovely and peaceful place again!

First of all, great facility, kind staff and good service! Don’t necessary feel that it was value for the money unfortunately (after comparing with the other stays around Sri Lanka). A few bullet points for improvement: should be able to order breakfast and lunch on the spot and not need to book the day before, cleanliness around the pool area during the day, should have more than one dining table. Overall ok!

The place has a great location with a stunning view over the sea! The villa itself is absolutely gorgeous with quirky and antique decorations, staff were incredibly friendly and supportive!

Everything!!! - The room - the bathroom (open, but not a lot insects) - the pool - the restaurant area withe the open kitchen and balcony - the yoga room - the location on the hill with the stunning view - the breakfast and food in general - the staff <3 - the activities (yoga lesson, cooking class) We loved it so much that we decided to stay two nights more than expected so in total 6 nights and it still felt too short!

That I can’t live there hahaha a bit climbing the hill and the stairs, but it definitely worth it for the view and the peacefully and quiet location :)

We had booked villa space as our final part of a two week trip hoping to wind down for our final four nights before heading home. The photos and descriptions on booking.com would suggest that we would be staying in a luxury hotel with an up and running restaurant and bar, yoga lessons in a serene location. Unfortunately this was not the case, the restaurant offered a small menu of which you were required to order all meals a day in advance (breakfast was $16 - we hadn’t paid more than $5 during our time in Sri Lanka) there was a small drinks menu, I requested the top two drinks they couldn’t make them. There was a yoga studio but no yoga instructor or classes which is misleading from the information on booking and social media. The interiors are nice, with nice furniture etc. but the rooms are windowless and there isn’t the ability to open the shutters so no natural light in the room. The description includes “terrace” this is a shared terrace open to all guests so no privacy if you want to have the doors open. There is an outside shower connected to the bathroom which is very nice to look at but it means that bugs etc can get in the bathroom. This also means that the acoustic soundproofing for the room is rubbish - we were kept up until 5am by a party happening in the bay as the sound travels in to the room through the bathroom. Part of the Villa rules state that we cant play our own music as there is “a carefully curated playlist” for the vibe of the villa - this playlist was trance music played until the early hours by the owners/ staff. Finally the location - Unawatuna wasn’t what we expected, quite trashy. The Villa is located about a 5 minute walk from the beach up a steep hill (tuk tuks cant go all the way due to the incline) followed but steep steps - was fine for us but may be worth considering this might not be suitable for everyone.
