The lake view and surroundings were great.., thank you joust for storing our luggage
I stayed at this hotel recently and had a generally positive experience. The location is excellent — just a short walk to the boat that takes you to Hallstatt, which was incredibly convenient. The views from the property are stunning and definitely a highlight of the stay. Walking to the train station took about 7 mins. The room, however, was quite small, especially considering the price I paid. It felt a bit cramped and may not be ideal for those looking for more space or comfort. That said, the owner, Franz-Joseph, was very friendly and welcoming, which added a nice personal touch to the visit. Overall, it's a great spot if you're prioritizing location and scenery.
Everything was fine except the guy at the front had an attitude. He clearly doesn’t like to be there or maybe had a bad day. Just not a good vibe from him. Otherwise everything was good.
Americans BEWARE!This host was awful. He has a huge disdain if your from America. No regard for service. Rude reply to a question my husband presented on the first day. We requested additional pillows and none were provided after he ackknowledged our request. The pillows are utter garbage. We failed to place a request for breakfast and unbeknownst to one person in our party she was thrown out of the breakfast area after pouring a cup of coffee. Upon checkout, he charged her for breakfast. Also at checkout, the host charged $18 per day versus the $12 per day in his welcome email sent the day of arrival. The worst customer service we have EVER encountered in our many travels. The room was the bear minimum.
Hotel was very convenient to train, bus and ferry ststions. Room cleaned daily. Mountain view is magical.
I like the spot of the hotel, the staffs are very friendly and help the tourisf ease the transport. Its a great place to find your inner peace and self
Some updates would be great, but clean, good location with breakfast.
Stunning view of lake just 50 from balcony with magnificent mountains enveloping Hallstatt See.
The self check in process was easy and smooth. Highly recommend balcony with lake view! Breakfast was ok - wish there were more options, seemed more scarce compared to other buffets we’ve visited. Only complaint was it was noisy above us, early in the morning … it sounded like someone was moving furniture or something. Would stay here again however, fair price compared to Hallstatt.
There is much to recommend this property. The price is good, the location is right on the lake, and there is a ferry that can take you to Hallstatt, which is lovely. It was extraordinarily clean, self check-in was easy, the gentleman at the desk in the morning was friendly and helpful. However, I had a soft mattress and cheap, lumpy pillow, which would keep me from staying there again until they upgrade.
Beautiful view from our balcony overlooking Hallstadt Lake. Very quiet. Room was very basic but spotless and bed comfortable. Breakfast was enjoyable. Staff very accommodating with electricity converter.
The hotel manager very rude speaks over you very abrupt and lacks customer care skills appears very angry and racist to foreign guests very unhelpful the room wasn’t great and had a bad smell in the toliet we left 2 days early to go to another hotel we recieved an email with a threat to give us what we expected in our meal at the other hotel meaning he was going to contact the hotel and put something in our food would never recommend this hotel the manager is terrible
Not that impressed with the hotel but it was close to Hallstatt and that’s what we wanted. The hotel was close to the boat dock and that made things nice. Our room was very small but we did like the view from the little deck. There is no elevator so we had to carry our bags up the stairs. Overall it is fine for just one night for us.
While the view is spectacular and the area idyllic, the front of house staff leave MUCH to be desired. There was miscommunication on reservations, with cancellations in order to jack up the prices when you try to book again. The guy running the checkout was extremely rude also and frankly should find a new career. I wish I could say I’ll be back, but not with that staff. Save yourself some hassle and get a different stay for Obertraun.
I loved the property, accessible to transportation to go to other towns such as Hallstatt. Nice walking/running/biking trail close by. Walkable to restaurants. Only thing I don’t love about the booking process is that you have to contact property 24 to 48 hrs prior to stay to get lockbox information. We had to call multiple times to get a hold of someone to provide us this code where it should be sent to your email the minute your reservation is confirmed and past the cancellation date. Overall tho good service and staff. Easy parking
This was our first stay here, but would come back in the future. The balcony views on the water are lovely! It has a small lake for swimming next to the hotel, as well.
Hotel had a beautiful lake view. Close to ferries and train. Easy to get to Hallstatt. Pizzeria Kegalbahn in town is a close walk and has good food. Less expensive than eating in Hallstatt.
The only great thing about the room was its balcony and its serene view of the lake. The front desk attendant was racist and very hostile. I just asked for normal black coffee and was ready to pay for it as there aren’t any cafes nearby but I was asked to purchase the whole breakfast buffet. And there is no way coffee was given separately which is such a basic amenity. Location is close to the main area- 5-6 min drive. The room was very basic not many amenities. Another point of concern is safety of the guests as they never asked for our passports to check us in or out or check any identification of the individuals staying. Another one was that how there are misplaced steps on the property which are tripping hazard.
We had a wonderful time in Obertraun at Hotel Haus am See. We will definitely try to stay here again in the future. For prospective guests: staying here is worth it—read the check in details that are sent, ask questions through the message portal on Expedia, and use google translate if you’re struggling. Our experience with the hotel staff was wonderful.
The place is so peaceful and the view is super👌👏
Management was not clear on ordering breakfast and when I tried to verify how, they were extremely rude - incredibly rude and insulting I wish I could upload the conversation... Breakfast was terrible with rotten fruit and stale breads for 18E No AC, no fan. Dingy old pillows Tiny room. I would never recommend this hotel for anything other than location. Location and view were beautiful; those were the only thing we enjoyed about the hotel. Pizzeria near by had fantastic food and service
The location is the best part by far. Simply stunning and great to stay on the lake. Great pizza place just a block or so away. Rooms have no fridge FYI and hotel is not fancy - even though it’s rather expensive. You’re paying for the location and it’s worth it.
Incredible location overlooking the lake! Lovely breakfast, easy check in and nice rooms.
Front
Nice beds with an amazing view of lake. This property has one of the best breakfasts and there aren’t a lot of choices in the surrounding area. We visited mid-June and the dock/lake area not set up for summer. There is a beach next to the property. Hallstatt closed at 6 pm. Literally all but one or two restaurants and all the shops closed at 6. Not many options for dinner in Obertraun or Hallstatt. Apparently summer hadn’t yet “started” as the kids weren’t out of school.
Hotel Haus am See is surrounded by natural beauty. We loved the view of the lake, the numerous mountain bike and hiking trails. It has a cozy family restaurant close by and a few authentic coffee cafes. The rooms are very simple and very small but the little balcony made it better.
You need to book the lake view rooms! Walking onto the balcony at all hours to admire the lake was the star of the show, especially when there's a boat playing live music in the evening. The owner, Franz, was so helpful to my elderly Asian mom. Her English isn't the best, and she told me he was patient and informative. Parking is 18EUR, but that's standard in that small area. The city enforces it, so the neighboring hotels do it too. The bathrooms are clean and were cleaned everyday. With all our activities, we missed the dinner at the hotel that everyone raves about. There's a pizza restaurant down the street that we decent and stayed open late, but next time we're back, we'll need to try the hotel's dinner!
We booked this hotel because we want to be by the lake but honestly probably would have been able to get a nicer room a little farther from the lake and it would have been nicer. I think having a lake view would have been nice, but we had a Mountain View/aka view of the parking lot. The hotel is very old fashioned with keys for the rooms instead of key cards. They email on the day of with a self check in where you essentially enter a code into a mail box to retrieve your key and parking pass which costs 18 euro per night. I felt like there were a lot of hidden fees that I didn’t see listed on the site like 18 euro parking and 18 euro breakfast. The beds were not the worst but definitely not comfy. The bathroom was very narrow and the bathtub/shower was very high making it difficult to get in. And lastly the staff at check out were not very friendly. Overall our stay was not what we hoped but we did have a clean room with beds. The lake/surrounding area is very beautiful.
This was such a beautiful and remote spot close to Hallstatt. It was right on the water, with amazing views. Check in was simple and it was very peaceful.
Our holiday was spoilt by the unacceptable behaviour of the owners. Their communication style was downright crude & unfriendly. Examples - Can I request for sunny side eggs (during breakfast)? Female- “No!” Can I ask you about the heater in the room? Male: “I cannot talk to you. I’ve not eaten my breakfast yet!” On the positive side- the lake & mountain view from our room was superb.
Closer to a few restaurants. But not great service. I asked for the pillows, since the ones they provided were flat and didn't provide any support- no response.
Had a very unpleasant conversation with the manager of this hotel. Agoda says nothing about a lift in the hotel description so i called them and asked a simple question if they have lift. The reply i get from them is You indians want everything with less money, just move to the 5 star and get a lift dont bother to come here. Is this not discrimination? He judge my whole country on some meaningless background. The next he is educating me that you should have read before booking and he was taught to read before booking in the elementary school. I really dont understand whats the point to talk like this. Is this hospitality? Is this not super rude and disrespectful . The most hurtful part is he is discriminating us. I would suggest all guest planning to visit this hotel to stay away from such people until they come to there senses to how to treat guests I believe what goes around comes around. 0 stars for this rude behaviour and unpleasant conversation. I bet anyone have such conversations will spoil there mood and there holiday.
One night stay - it’s a short five minute walk from the train station which is a big plus. Excellent view of the lake and Hallstatt. Basic rooms with no AC but otherwise clean and tidy.
Amazing view and surrounding areas. Check in was easy, but no staff around at check in as we had a question (we had tried contacting the property early in the day and got no response then either). Was slightly disgusted by blood stains on pillow case and blanket (im assuming they were stains and not fresh nlood).
The property, although super well located, has a terrible hospitality strategy. I was not aware of the self check in. I never got an email from them. So, I arrived at 11AM and the doors were all locked and the not on the door was only in German. I cannot believe that a hotel in a place filled with Chinese tourists and many other nationals has only signage in German. Then, a hotel worker opened the door but she did not speak any English and after struggling to communicate I had a reservation via google translate, she told me I had to wait outside. Finally, a very friendly older man arrived, some 1.5 later (He worked the front desk and was making breakfast the morning after) and checked me in surprised that I had not received any emails. Despite the views, I would not stay there again.
Amazing view and quiet
This hotel was wonderful. Great location right on the lake and close to the train station. The staff was lovely. Breakfast was delicious. The bed was very comfy. Will absolutely stay again.
Still waiting for holds to be taken off my account
Amazing location, overlooking the river. Small room however, and no kettle, coffee and tea facilities. Continent and walk away from the lake
It was excellent and the view was stunning!! Very recommended
Cleanest hotel bathroom and beds were supper comfy. Room was great for my family of 4. No A/C but with the windows opened we were comfortable. Don’t listen to the hotel when they tell you that you can catch easily catch a taxi back from Hallstatt. Waited an hour for the one taxi and eventually the family had to walk back late in the even for 3.5 miles. Be sure you catch the last ferry or bus.
The view from our room was perfect. I could have stayed there forever. The wifi is a bit finicky, but wasn't a huge deal for us. The check in and check out process was so easy, and there was great parking just in front of the building.
We liked that this hotel was cozy and clean. The town is very small and quiet. There are not many food options past 7, but the pizza restaurant was very good, so we didn't mind. We also couldn't figure out how to get the heater to work, but we ended up not needing it because their bedding was thick and comfy. We loved it here!
I never received the check in instructions and had to call the property, luckily someone answered immediately. Once upstair where the rooms are the carpet was filthy in the hall, felt almost like a hostile because it was so small and cramped. Did not feel clean at all as far as the rooms go. If the weather is bad and you cannot go outside you are pretty much stuck inside the hotel. Not fun if the weather is bad!
Good
Nice staff and clean rooms but the WiFi is horrible and at 3 PM everything shuts down. Only worth it with a water view room.
Emplacement
It was a nice quiet retreat and close to Hallstatt. If you go ask for a room facing the lake.
The Hotel has a good view but others was suck. Nothing is in the room. No water, no tea bag, no coffee. When we want to borrow the kettle and they replied that they don‘t allow to cook nuddle in the room. No staff in the counter to be inquired. The breakfast is too expensive. The location is far away Hallstatt downtown and need to take boat or train which is very inconvenient. The check out is very early(10:30pm), so we need to check out first then go to Hallstatt DT. So we need to put our luggages in the counter, they charged us $3 Euro per person. That’s unacceptable, no hotels will charge this fee. It’s really bad experience ti stay here.
Beautiful location!
Beautiful area!
A wonderful stay in a picture perfect location. Definitely worth paying for the lake view room. Breakfast outside of our budget but there’s a bakers and supermarket in walking distance and a friendly cafe next door. Check in process smooth and we received all the instructions we needed. We were also able to buy boat tickets from the hotel. Obertraun is charming and beautiful - much more relaxing and not-touristy than Hallstatt. We would stay here again.
It was disappointment as we opened the door. Decor was dated, old, the only saving grace was the view. There was no tea/coffee making facility. Cups for brushing were two clear plastic cups. (see picture). We wanted hot water for making cup noodles and we were told we couldn't bring them back upstairs as the owner "did not like the smell". PS: we have a balcony. No floor mats for shower. Soundproofing is poor. We could hear our neighbours chatting and singing loudly upstairs. We didn't take their breakfast but it is severely overpriced for what's on offer. Continental breakfast only. Save your EUR 18 and have a nice big breakfast at a proper breakfast cafe.
Beautiful spot right by the water in the mountains!
During my stay at Obertraun. I broke my right elbow. I asked for help at the reception next morning, the lady (I am sorry that I didn’t ask her name at the moment) gave me a very professional first aid, an iced board and bandages to hold my arm and restrained it to movement and also pain killers. Then I was able to travel to Salzburg safely and got X-rays checked and plastered at the Salzburg hospital. Here I would like to express my great gratitude to her.
The views from the lake facing room was phenomenal. The whole self check in process was very smooth.
Absolutely gorgeous location, very accommodating staff.
The stay was okay, the room was clean and pleasant and we did stay in the off season. However there was only one option for dinner and no where to grab a drink or chill asides from the room. Never saw any staff in the hotel, which was fine but just not a lot going on. Just be aware of this when thinking of spending a night in Hallstatt :)
Absolutely magical place in a beautiful location. One of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen. We got engaged during our stay right near the water! We will be back. Upgrade to room with lake view - definitely worth it!!
Very nice.
So clean, easy to take the bus to Hallstatt.
I am a solo traveler from America and this place was absolutely wonderful! Very clear communication during check-in and check-out. My room was very clean and had the most beautiful view with a porch! Hotel is in a very convenient location. Es gibt ein Boot, das die ganze Tag nach/von Hallstatt ge shuttlet, und das Hotel befindet sich direkt am Dock. Yummy and filling continental breakfast. Truly, could not have asked for a better experience! Thank you to the staff for making it such a pleasant stay.
Upon arrival, we did not have our self check-in information and the Gentleman at the front desk was at first reluctant to help us.
Basic property but more than adequate for the price. Beautiful location.
It was good and near to bus station
Quiet and comforting, nice view from the room, clean room
The hotel did not email me the checkin code before we arrived. He refused to give me the code by the phone. I had to call Hotels.com to force him to email me the code. The room is tiny and very dirty, super uncomfortable. I wrote my experience in check-in review of hotels.com. The next morning, they were super mad vaout my review. They cheated me to go back the room with them and were trying to beat me up. I rashed to the balcony and yelled for help. They cheated us to give them our passports and refuse to give us back. I told my husband to run outside and call police. By the end they gave us back the passports. Do not ever go to this place. They take your money and do not want you to stay. They are dangerouse people. You put yourself in trouble and in danger if you book with them.
the lake view was amazing, the hotel not so much
The staff was unnecessarily aggressive when being asked for basic things such as towels and pillows. Furthermore, they charged us for towels and pillows (5EUR each), which wasn't part of the description beforehand. Generally speaking, the description did not fit the service that was offered. The office desk was closed when we arrived at 18:00, even though it should close at 19:00. The walls and doors are thin and barely soundproof. The staff was vacuuming at 7:30 in the morning right in front of our door. The curtains are thin and do not block sunlight at all. The food was OK and the lakeside view was splendid.
It was easy to do self check-in and clean with great view. It was the best chimoice. However there was no one for reception so we cannot ask simple cattle and hot water. Also there was parking fee which seems like normal for this area.
Stunning location and beautiful view from our room. A little bit noisy (can hear people upstairs closing doors/moving around). Decor could do with updating but the location made it worthwhile. Self check-in was easy. Friendly staff/owner at checkout (English-speaking!). Convenient for access to trains and boats/buses to Hallstatt.
We rented a room with a balcony. The view of the lake was spectacular. Room was small but clean and functional. There was no coffee provided (unless you paid $18 Euros for breakfast, but there was a bakery cafe just down the road. Hotel was vey close to the train station and the clerk was friendly and helpful. A great place overall
Great property.
I find the reviews and reply from the owner really hilarious and do come back time to time to read and get a good laugh. We stayed here a couple of years ago and had a pretty good experience. The owner was business-like but was certainly not unfriendly to us. In fact, we took a shared van from Hallstatt back to the hotel one day and left the back-pack in the van. The owner made multiple calls and finally got the van to come back and deliver the bag back to us. Yes, there is no elevator and rooms are small. The breakfast is basic but has enough for a good morning start. The view is terrific, location convenient, close to the train station. Some people have called the owner racist but we did not experience anything like that - We are from Bangalore, India!. Just manage your expectations about the 'reception', most of it is self-check in and carrying your own bag upstairs all the way to your room. Justfocus on the visit to Hallstatt or even do a 3 hour hike into the woods around this area. The owner gave us a map which we used for a fabulous hike - one of the best we have experienced so far in our travel around the world. I know that some of the people who had negative experience will wonder what is going on - but for those who are looking at the reviews, to keep this balanced, I thought of writing my experience.
Gentleman at the front desk was very friendly but the lady (probably the owner or manager) not at all friendly. She woke us up at 7:40 am for not parking the car properly although it was not blocking any car and asked for 6 Euros for two extra pillows when we said the pillows provided were disintegrated. They knew we arrived late the previous night and moving the car could wait another half hour. Rooms are really small.
Had a lovely experience staying four nights in this hotel. This hotel definitely has the best views out of all the ones in the area - waking up to the lake and mountains every morning was breathtaking! The hotel is a few minutes walk to the train station which connects you to the rest of the area. Hallstatt is only a short boat ride away, or about an hour walk by the lake, which was also nice. The hosts were kind and very helpful. My only suggestion would be to have a kettle in the room, or even a shared one in a communal area - would be lovely to have a cup of tea on my balcony watching the view. Overall I had a great experience and would certainly stay again! Thank you
Very clean room but very small. Small shower and toilet area. We were only there for one night. Easy parking which was a plus. Great location
The location was gorgeous, the hotel was okay but there are no elevators. The room view was beautiful but the room itself was kind of small. Breakfast was good.
Saw some bad reviews about this property but I'e never had any of those bad experiences. Location is amazing. I even liked more than the main tourist area. Sadly I booked a view with mountain instead of the lake. It would be better if I had the lake view. I also had breakfast with extra fee, I loved it. I recommend this place
Absolutely REGRET to book this place. Please take note this property is listed on booking.com as B&B Hallstatt Lake - self check in instead of B&B Haus AM See. OTHERWISE I would have read the horrible experiences of various guests on google review. A very unplesant and unhelpful receiption manager and is not able to even direct nor answer a simple question as where the trashbin is at lobby instead he is yelling at you saying he has no time. He also refuse to guide you how to check in instead he told you off rudely by you asking you to read the email. But I didn't have data upon arrival so I was not able to access my email. The hotel room is very basic except they have a good view but the horrible experience staying at this unpleasant hotel doesnt reconcile the breathtaking view they have. If you read the denial response of this property to most of the negative reviews of various guests. Instead to recognise and improve the customer service. Guest who is paying to stay here dont deserve for impolite response if they are asking a simple question.
We loved our stay here. Great location in quiet village across from Hallstatt. Beautiful view from our small balcony. Rooms aren’t large, but very adequate. Wish TV was a smart tv we could put YouTube on or stream our own movies in English. 15 euros per check in and 12 euros parking per night we didn’t know about until getting our sign in instructions. But would stay here again!
The price of this hotel is really high for the kind of place that it is. No elevator and it’s very hard to bring your luggage up if it’s heavy and you have been traveling for several weeks. It’s a very basic place and very high cost.
Beautiful lake view and good breakfast.
It’s very tiny room. No coffee or hot water. A dead bird on the balcony. Minimum hospitality.
The only thing going for this hotel is the view. The room was very small. The pillow was horrible. The shower was primitive. The bathroom light went on together with a noisy fan. And it was not cheap.
I hope this review isn't too long, but I had an experience similar to those who gave this hotel a lower rating, and I thought I'd share why. The Positives: The location is perfect! Obertraun is ideal for accessing the train, the bus to Hallstatt, and even the ferry. With two boat options on either side of the hotel. The hotel is right on the lake beside a lovely park, and we paid for a lake view, which did not disappoint. We had a charming balcony overlooking the lake and the picture-perfect town of Hallstatt. Honestly, I'd rather stay here than in Hallstatt itself. Hallstatt is so busy, and parking is a nightmare. While you will pay for parking in Obertraun too, it's more manageable. The hotel was spotless—squeaky clean bathrooms and windows so clear you'd forget they were there. The Negatives: Now for the tricky part. The room was tiny. We had two large bags and backpacks (because we're on a 30-day vacation), and this was just an overnight stop. But where to put the bags? They ended up having to use the bed to get into them because there was nowhere else to place them. The bathroom was also small but manageable for us. However, if you're on the larger side of average, things might feel very tight. There's no elevator either, so I can only imagine the struggle if we were staying higher than the second floor. Prices in this touristy area are high for everything, and yes, this place was expensive for what it was. But let’s face it, you're paying to be in a beautiful part of the world. The breakfast? At 20 euros, I'd skip it. Now, the awkward bit... We received an email on the 7th of September suggesting we were expected on the 8th (even though our reservation was for the 9th). The e-mail requested that we come to pay for our room in the morning (the 8th) and confirm whether we'd be having breakfast by 8 pm that evening. I quickly replied, pointing out that our booking was for the 9th, not the 8th, and asked for confirmation. No response. So I followed up. The reply I got simply told me to refer to the "self check-in" email from the previous day. Still confused, I sent another message asking for clarification on our dates. I got a kind of snarky reply "You already got a self check-in mail as already mentioned! Please read it!" Now, call me sensitive, but those exclamation marks felt a bit much. When we arrived, the manager was at the desk but didn’t look up, didn’t say hello, and certainly didn’t offer any help. Imagine this scenario: you're in a foreign country, not sure about the process, dragging heavy bags, and the only thing standing between you and a friendly experience is a quick smile and "Welcome to Obertraun, your room is just up the stairs—sorry, no elevator." It would have made all the difference. Instead, we got radio silence until we figured it out ourselves while I struggled to find the all-important "check in email" Later, we came by the desk again, we said hello and at that point, he gave us a lovely smile, so I'm guessing there's a bit of a language barrier here. I don’t think the aloofness was intentional, but it did come across that way. The place has been compared to a hostel, and I have to agree—if you want great service and a spacious room, this isn't the place. But if you're happy with a clean, small room and a great location, you’ll enjoy your stay. Just don't expect a warm welcome at the desk!
The location and breakfast were great. You get directions for self check in and there isn’t anyone around in the afternoon to get assistance from. Our room felt small, best suited for one person, but there’s bigger rooms. We just needed a place to sleep so it met our needs. The room had a hair dryer, towel hanger, soap, and a small table with 2 chairs. I feel additional items would have been helpful such as a fan (we went in early September), way to heat water, and a small fridge. There’s about 2 restaurants in town and one grocery store about a 20 minute walk, so storing food would be convenient.
This hotel is significantly over priced. It is very basic, old and expensive. The view however is lovely but that is why you’re paying 3 times what should be charged. There is nothing in the area for dinner other than a terrible restaurant, my food was inedible. If you want to stay in the area as the lake is beautiful stay in Hallstatt!
The location is truely amazing - right on the edge of Lake Hallstadt - which is beautiful. You can be swimming in the lake within 1 miute of waking in the morning. You can get the small Navia eco boat over to Hallstadt every hour. Now the hotel itself is reasonable - it does have small rooms, small bathroom, no A/C, no escilator and an adequate breakfast - but combined with its position on the lake it was just what we wanted. We ate at all 3 restaurants (tbh cafes) in Overtraun and all were reasonable but the best was the Pizzeria Kegelbahn (which does a lot nore than just Pizza!)
Amazing location , Property is in the lake and facing Hallstatt , breathtaking view
I was late arriving but was left very clear check in instructions. My single room was perfect for me with a nice shower and sink, only needing to share the toilet with one other room so no problem. The view from the balcony was breathtaking. Possibly my only gripe was that breakfast was a little on the pricey side at €18 and there was a parking charge of €12 per day. Having said that I’ve rarely had breakfast on a more beautiful terrace right on the lake so I guess you are paying for that really. Contrary to some other reviews I found the man on the desk to be very helpful and nice. All in all a fantastic stay in a perfect location
Great solo trip to Obertraun. Property is located on the lake with a beautiful view & private pier to swim from. Comfortable bedroom and very relaxed, quiet atmosphere. Good breakfast available with lovely views over the lake. Close to bus stop for a day trip to Hallstatt. Friendly check in/out. Would recommend for anyone visiting the area looking for a relaxing break from the city.
Excellent for a short stay in Obertraun! Easy access to Hallstatt, but I did prefer just spending time in Obertraun around the lake. Beautiful view of the lake from my balcony. Property is advertised, clean and comfortable. Friendly check in and overall a great stay.
Our room was perfect and cleaned daily. We had a Mountain View which was beautiful. I loved how close this was to the lake and really enjoyed seecafe next door. I also used the laundry facilities nearby at the Hotel Dormio which was nice. Check in and out was easy with the lock box. The only downside was the staff was not very helpful with providing knowledge on the area. They were kind enough but whenever asked very basic questions about attractions or transportation they told us we had to look it up.
Everything went smoothly. I got the code for self check-in via comms through Expedia. Seamless. The room was clean, it was walkable to the lake and to the restaurants and train station. Room was on the smaller side, but I have stayed in smaller rooms in other countries. The man at the front desk was friendly and stored our bags. He was gracious when I accidentally took the key with me to Hallstadt after checking out. I was able to return it to him in the afternoon when I returned to pick up the bags. The only snafu was the breakfast. We had 9 a.m. salt mine tix and thought we had to et but the lady at the restaurant told us that we had to catch the bus and there was no taci service in Obertraun. We thought we had to run, but realized we would not make the bus. I called a taxi company that is in the next village over and made arrangements to get picked up 45 minutes later. While I was calling the taxi, the woman at the Restaurant told my daughter she could not eat in a way that my daughter felt was a bit unpleasant. I was able to straighten it out and my daughter ate a light breakfast. The full breakfast is what I expected at a small pension. The woman was pleasant in the afternoon. Since I wasn‘t there I am not sure what had been said, but my mother was Austrian, so I think I may not have taken offense if I had been there. I would stay at Haus am See again.
The staff was very nice! The breakfast was excellent and the view outside on the lakeside was very beautiful! A little issue getting the check in instructions but that may of been an issue with Expedia. Overall, what an absolutely beautiful view of the lake and mountains right at the lakes edge!
Absolutely would recommend this hotel to anyone, very clean, great views and franstantic breakfast
Beautiful property, views were great. Room was clean. There was a park right next door for our kids to play and a boat dock to ride the boat to Hallstatt. They had parking for are car. And a great breakfast in the morning!
At first I was skeptical because of reviews but, honestly this place was great! It was in a great location for families. A park next to it that had a play ground for the kids and water to go swimming with a trampoline in the water. Also the park had a rock climbing wall for kids. You could easily take a boat to Hallstatt, the dock was right next to it. We also ate at the pizzeria which was walking distance. Overall, the hotel was clean the breakfast was good. No complaints from us. You do have to call when you arrive, which was no problem for us. We stayed in the “attic” and we were able to fit our 2 kids and us without a problem. All in all I would recommend.
Beautiful setting, comfortable room, helpful staff, tasty breakfast.
