The location, staff and comfortable bed.
Location is good
Very tired needs a good clean and refit. Stayed here many times but think this may be the last. Bathroom light constantly flashing and flickering. Didn’t see this till we got back later in the night so had to just turn it off and use phone torch. Paint peeling off the walls in the room, wardrobe doors all marked and scuffed .
Excellent breakfast
Room location on 2nd floor. Lift to 2nd floor, but then stairs up and then another set up. Would book on the level next time.
Good location for fashionable bars and the motorpoint arena
The hotel is very tired and they hiked up their prices because of a concert at the arena. I paid £199 for a room that would probably be £80 tops. It is located in a very noisy area and the room sash window would not close exacerbating the noise.
The location for what we wanted was good
No way is this a 4* hotel!! More like 2*.The room was shabby, paintwork chipped and scratched. Needs deep cleaning. The window blind wouldn’t open, held in place by Velcro. After checking in there was no-one on reception. The advertised bar was closed as was the restaurant. Not worth what we paid.
Location is fine
Dark dingy and unwelcoming. Nowhere to sit. Room floor uneven, shower cubicle would not shut. No towel rail in the en suite. Poky room, dreadful furniture and random pictures and mirrors all uncoordinated. The breakfast room was terrible - very gloomy and to call it a “Brasserie” is a complete joke. The whole place is In dire and urgent need of refurbishment and updating. Like something out of the 1970s. Staff were fine.
Incredible location- right in the centre of town- great for a concert trip. Good spacious room, with a large bathroom, well behaved shower and plenty of cupboard space. Good continental breakfast- didn't try the English, although as it's cooked to order was probably very good. Loved the creaky old floors!
No security at the hotel entrance, so if I'd been on my own would have made me nervous.
You never know what you going to get these days but I can say i was extremely relieved both in terms of quality, helpfulness, quietness and facilities.
Shower is very small. The floor is uneven but I suppose that can't be helped.
The room was clean and tidy and the location is great.
The bar and brasserie were not opened at all in the evening. There were 2 empty soap dispensers in the shower, so I had to go down to reception to get a bottle. There is a lot of noise from the street as people leave the pubs and clubs
Good location in central Nottingham
Rude staff. Room was tiny, double bed squashed into corner. The television didn’t work, No soap in the dispensers. When mentioned to reception was told nothing he could do about it, they just gave me an e-mail address to complain to. Wouldn’t stay here again as there are other hotels nearby in the same price range.
I loved my stay staff freindly room excellent will deff be bookin again price very good will be tellin freinds
It was very tired and looked like it needed a good re vamp
Location is great if you want to be bang smack in the centre. Has mini-split A/C units in the room so you can regulate as needed. Comfortable bed.
Overhead lights in the bedroom & bathroom did not work in our suite (room 503) & when I reported it their maintenance personnel wouldn’t be available until after our departure. So the only light to see by in the bathroom was the mirror light.
Location was good for night-life but not too close to station
The floor of the room had a substantial slope, making the bed roll downhill. The shower tray filled to.the brim with water and took an incredibly long time to drain
The style
Very old, the room we stayed in the floor was uneven and the carpet was bunching in places and we kept tripping every time we went to the bathroom
Only thing that was a little disappointing is that there were no facilities for an evening meal. Other than that we loved the hotel. Location was fab. Air con made all the difference for our time with you
Nothing. The hotel was fine. The bed was comfortable and the air con made such a difference.
Location for a very late booking was good. It ticked the boxes
Staff on reception very unhelpful. Shower drain blocked with who knows how many guests left overs ? No one on reception to answer questions on departure. Poor all around a staff point
Location was great
Bed bugs
Great central location and very quiet despite how busy it is outside. Loved the historical charm and decor. Excellent value for money.
Nothing
Location
Stayed in this hotel many times and it is starting to get a bit tired, by coincidence we actually stayed in the same room twice this year 5 months apart and both times the shower drain was blocked so you could only have a 1 min shower before having to turn off and allow to drain, I belive I complained about this last time and clearly nothing has been done. Mercure seemed to have ditched this property recently and also the pub that is attached has closed down, don't know what is going on !
Tiny rooms
I stayed here because of the location. It was a nice hotel

Poor cleanliness Needs updating
Fantastic location
The Room was cramped, The Shower was not clean & the doors of the shower unit needed fixing because the water was not draining from the shower tray; it was filling to the top of the tray, and some of the water even overflowed from the tray onto the floor, as a result, it was wet, and the lining didn't look like they were changed from the previous guest
The fact that it is on the main street was good but very loud bars around making it hard to sleep wasnt to far from the train station
I payed extra then I would normally pay for a weekend away as it was a special occasion but there was holes in the carpet the tap didnt work in the sink the pull out bed all the fabric was coming off and for a grand room it wasnt worth the money I payed
I found a room.
This was the only room available in town that night and i had no choice but to stay. The room was filthy, wallpaper peeling off the walls....Avoid Avoid Avoid £150 waste
Central location near to where we were going.
Tap and sink not working. Poor quality breakfast
The location was perfect easy acces to the area, the beds were clean and comfy and it had proper pillows. The staff were lovely and the hallways were clean and well lit.
However the room we stayed in 202 looked tired, the carpet looked dusty around the edges and there were cobwebs on the ceiling. There were bottles for shampoo conditioner etc went to use no shampoo, and the drain cover was loose and the tap stuff, there was noticeable mold spots on ceiling. The table in the room the drawers opened on own, tea and coffee once located were hidden in the wardrobe we didn't use but it was there . Halfway through the night a low constant noise appeared and kept waking me up was still there when we checked out. Overall its an ok place, its good location but the room needed tlc. Oh don't expect a view from room the windows look out on pipes and ducts which honestly I didn't mind that, its just the room let down.
Excellent location. Good room size.
Walls in bedroom were a mess. Paint peeling. Looked like some kind of covering had been pulled off the wall, but no remedial decoration put in place. Drain in shower slow to drain... I was worried the tray was going to overflow!
It was a lovely room, good size and smelt clean
There was some dust around the mirror in the room, but that was all
Central location
Tired looking room, bed linen scratchy, piece of basin broken off, window glazing inadequate as very noisy outside. Reception area gloomy with weird neon light...very unwelcoming. Breakfast selection limited and served in unpleasant environment with very sticky floor. Not very attentive staff
It was all good….
No real complaints…
Nothing Hotel standards zero
Room dirty reception staff rude no where to chill curious bar sadly gone
Good enough size room
Woke in middle of the night to the door open and was also covered in bed bug bites. Showed the receptionist on checkout and explained what had happened. She couldn't of cared less
Room facilities were as advertised for eg equiped with iron, hair dryer,tea/coffee making facilities
Cleanliness of the room was poor. Mold on the walls, carpet, curtains, walls all stained and filthy
Position was excellent. Rooms were very cramped
Great location and room, gym if needed good shower and bathroom
carefull with the little scam at reception, check in is very late imo (3pm), they say room is ready BUT if you want to check in early its an extra £25, nice try but no thanks i will come back, sure this works on some people
Great location
Nothing
They cancelled my booking without notice Realised they could double the price for that weekend. Ended having to pay double at another hotel. Booking .com was great and I received reimbursement for the extra cost
Staff were lovely, allowed me to check in earlier and were very polite and friendly.
Lots of elements were not working or broken.
This is an old hotel with all the modern conveniences of great air con and good wifi etc. Brilliant central location. Surpringling quiet. Lovely, helpful staff and a great breakfast.
Big bed. Dark curtains Shower Decor Reception welcome and check in. Location
First "privilege" room offered was very poor. Dirty, dark, fridge with no plug, awful sofa, smelly. 2nd room offered much better but... ● Bedside lamp switch broken and stuck on ● Other bedside lamp switch broken, black tape over but my finger went through to wires inside. Very dangerous ● plug socket beneath TV bottom two holes broken. ● toilet leaked water from the waste pipe at the back. The water would seap into the floor. I expect floor boards soaked and potentially effecting the ceiling in room below. ● There was a pair of black womens dirty knickers in the wardrobe! Completely gross to find.
The location was the only redeeming factor as it was right in the centre. plus we had a courtyard facing room so it was quieter Air con was perfect, needed it to keep the room cool in the heat.
Rooms not as displayed on website. Think the lobby was the only area that resembled the pictures. Small and compact uncomfortable to sleep in as the bed was right up to the wall with the door to the room on the other side. Even down to basic furnishing and pictures on the wall. We had nothing that was displayed on the photos. Felt like basic accomodation with no love, care and attention to detail. Unclean surfaces, thick of dust and tv did not work, plus missing the remote. You could hear everything in the hallways.
Me and my daughter love this hotel, friendly staff, comfortable and clean room .. as well as perfect location!
Nothing
Not a mecure anymore. Still got there branding up tho which is very misleading. They have gotten rid of most of the old staff and replaced them with people who speakly nearly no english. Ive stayed here loads of times and we deffo not be staying here again l. My wife was even aggressively questioned about taking free reading material from the reception to plan one of our days out. Like I said all the old staff have gone and replaced with minimum wage zombies who speak very little english. Take my advice and stay in the lace market hotel or the park plaza hotel for the same money
Everything was amazing from the response to my original query direct to the hotel to the room assignment based upon my requests as a disabled traveller. Check -in was spot on and the room was lovely. Staff were great, everyone we spoke to was polite, respectful, helpful. Food was lovely for breakfast, so much to choose from and items freshly cooked as needed. It was a similar level of breakfast that we have experienced in more expensive hotels. It was located in the middle of pubs/restaurants with outside seating and we were spoilt for choice for food. We were at the front of the hotel and there was a little bit of bass we heard from the live music venue opposite but honestly it was more like 'white noise' than anything stressful and we slept amazingly in a lovely comfortable bed Cannot fault anything here and will definitely return. With breakfast we paid only £10 more than if we had booked a Premier Inn with breakfast in the same city centre but it was as if we got a major upgrade by choosing this hotel, definitely worth a little bit extra just for the service alone as well as the room being twice the size of a Premier Inn and a separate walk-in shower as well as a bath. Perfect
There was nothing that concerned us at all, we are looking forward to returning.
Standard. Bang for buck.
Didn't expect anything special so can't complain.
Location fantastic for city centre pubs, bars and cafes. Staff very helpful and friendly.
The standard double room very tight on space. Overall it was ok for one night. Although, bathroom mirror and dressing table light didn't function. Shower screen was also in poor condition.
Location was great
Tired room decor No full time reception staff Dingy reception atmosphere- no sense of welcome No windows in room other than very high up small windows Very institutional bathroom Absolutely no sense of care from the hotel for one’s stay - sporadic staffing of reception is very unsatisfactory . Pleasant staff but no sense that there was a team Looking after guests . It is a 4 star hotel quite unbelievably
In the heart of the city extremely convenient to visit different places around Nottingham.
The view was obstructed by another building and unfortunately the sink drainage was extremely slow and the lack of shower essentials, e.g. shower gel missing
Friendly breakfast staff.
Room too cramped and poor space for clothes.
Not a lot
Carpets were moth eaten...place very tired...
Location and price
Still “badged” as The Mercure on the outside so wasn’t sure if it was the correct hotel or not. Receptionist was very pleasant but when they started talking about breakfast I said I didn’t have breakfast they continued their spiel so felt a bit robotic
Good location. Price reasonable. Room had everything needed. Staff pleasant.
The entrance is a bit dark and miserable. Understand it’s an old building. However rooms fine. Breakfast very good. No USB in rooms.
Sorry, but nothing much. Don't be fooled by the photo!
The hotel had changed hands since we booked. Which we were not informed about. Hotel run down, staff didn't even know what a shower mat was, when we requested one! The room keys didn't work, toilet flush needed repairing. This is not what you expect of a 4 star hotel! Very disappointing.
La habitación hermosa. El desayuno muy bueno y el personal muy atento.
Me gustó todo.
Good location Lovely staff
Nothing Room small but had everything
Mysigt och originellt
I loved the central location, very close to anytging you could need/want. The rooms were comfortable and roomy for the price. And the staff were always attentive when I needed assistance.
My only complaint is my bathroom sink had cracks in it, still usable just a little worrisome.
Close distance from the train station to the hotel. Very close to everything including the universities. Hotel was spotless, all staff friendly and accommodating. Room was excellent, lovely king size bed, very clean bathroom with beautiful shower, good sized tv and great size aircon unit in room.Breakfast was amazing with a great choice of foods and coffee. The young man on shift took excellent care of us.
I felt the hotel was perfect for our overnight stay and we felt very welcome by all staff.
Location
Everything else, it’s not a Mercure anymore, it looks like it’s under new ownership and it’s dingy. The carpets throughout stink and the receptionist kept spraying air freshener into the lobby.
Great location, welcoming staff
Carpets could do with renewing
Great location, quirky rooms and nice breakfast
The member of staff on reception was very difficult to understand as their English was poor
Convenient for train and event we were attending.
What didn’t I like? Everything. Dreadful gloomy decor. We booked two rooms, unfortunately, so doubly horrible. We initially booked triple, but then had to add another guest just as we arrived. Plenty of rooms it turned out (now I know why), but no, we couldn’t switch from triple (‘because you have already paid’ - this was receptionist’s explanation) to two doubles (which would have been similar price). We were given £2 discount on the second room. At this point we hadn’t noticed all the problems with the rooms. No soap in one bathroom - dispenser looked full, but empty, and broken loo seat; some previous guest’s contact lenses stuck to the wall in the other room. carpet coming up, not enough cups, not enough hangers, broken air-con. Dining room grim, breakfast dreadful. Fresh fruit didn’t look especially nice or fresh, and coffee controlled by one waiter who kept disappearing with the crap filter coffee, hot food not replenished frequently enough, not enough croissants etc… how hard is it to provide good breakfast? The massive panel on the wall in the hall suggests a very different hotel. Something attractive and historic. It’s such a shame. The location is great, there is an amazing staircase and that is it.
The location was perfect. Staff were friendly and welcoming
The room key didnt work, we had to have it swapped 3 times. The toilet seat moved due to being loose. Expensive for one night.
Not much other then its history
Poor poor service not very clean not helpful at all and such a shame about the the old pub not being open anymore as it gave the welcoming feeling
Central location
Our first room had a leak in the bathroom and we had to be moved. Which staff did sort. New room however had an uneven floor. The bathroom was an accessible one which is fine. But it wasn’t very clean and floor flooded. Room faced onto the main road with a nightclub across the road.
it was the perfect location for city centre
room was not clean, shower cubicle was dirty
Great location easy check in good shower
Nothing really,reception a bit dark
Location
Looked nothing like the pictures, cheap springy mattress that wasn't comfortable
Great location, quick and easy check in
Staff didn’t feel like they wanted customers, but might have been a bad day
It is a good location. Only staff i saw was the reception for 5 mins on arrival. The rooms are tired looking and really small for £150
see above
Nic
Brak parkingu. Informacja o parkingu przy ulicy po jawiła się po rezerwacji pobytu. Płatność została pobrana i nie zwrócona. Brak paragonu/faktury lub jakiejkolwiek dowodu opłaty. Brak komunikacji. Hotel nazywa się inaczej niż w rzeczywistości.
Great aircon.
Couldn’t find it as not yet rebranded. Bar was shut.
Great value for money. Air con was a bonus as visited during a heatwave. Friendly staff. Quiet room, basic but clean. Plentiful shower gel, shampoo etc and a good shower.
Parking even with 20% discount was £14.40 which adds quite a bit to the cost. Double Bed sloped left to right which was a bit odd. No bedside lights, there was a wall mounted light above the bed but we couldn’t locate a switch anywhere.
Air con and central
Hair in the shower as arrived and felt old and needed a revamp also the bed was hard I didn’t sleep well
Both fine
Had problems with shower. Some confusion as hotel name wasn't what I was expecting.
Fantastic location, right in the centre of town. As its 1 of the oldest hotels, its goes without saying that floor boards creek and wardrobes slant. The character of the building, is one of the reasons we booked there. 20% off parking. 24hrs cost £18.80 Lace Market Carpark is a 2 minute walk away.
Paid for a standard king room and believe we had a smaller double room allocated to us. Room 215 had was rubbish view, just a brick wall; but i guess thats the risk you take with hotels. The check-in desk was unattended, had to ring a mobile and wait for someone to come to check us in. After driving to get to the hotel, that last thing you want is to be hanging around with nowhere to sit.
Good location
Hotel under new management. Signs still in the old branding and so destination difficult to find. Hotel in need of decoration. No bar available and no food other than breakfast despite the Hotel advertising an on site bar and restaurant. Staff always referred to the change of management when ever there was an issue.
The location was amazing. The hotel was quiet considering how central it was. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating.
The property was clearly in transition as it has just been acquired by its new owners. The name in the front of the hotel hadn’t changed and it is clearly in need of some renovation and updating.
Excellent location, room was small but with an air condition which was a big bonus. Bed was comfortable despite the fact that the room required a bit of TLC
Staff could improve their communication skills, explain where the room is located etc. Hotel need a bit of TLC
The receptionist was pleasant when we checked in.
On arrival, the receptionist was extremely helpful and pleasant, however she got completely undermined by a senior member of staff which was extremely awkward. We left our luggage as the room wasn't ready. When we got to our room at around 9.30pm, our room had been changed - and we were in possibly the worst hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was tiny, dirty and noisy. My wife woke up at 4am feeling claustrophobic. The window blind didn't work, so was permanently closed. There were pigeons nesting on the flat roof directly outside our roof, which kept us awake. The inside of the window and window frame was filthy, with half the window trim hanging off. The shower was enclosure was dirty, particularly the shower tray and the tap was loose to the bathroom sink. I remember staying in this hotel a few years ago and it was great. It's clearly gone rapidly downhill recently and we won't be returning. I suggest the receptionist gets a new job if she's constantly undermined like she was on our visit.
Quite a trendy looking hotel, love the decor and feel of the hotel. Air con! Love love love that, made my night so much comfier.
The room had a faint smell of cigarette smoke. It was also a little tired, chips on furniture let it down a little.
Staff were friendly, bed very comfy, had a cool style to the entrance
Room quite scruffy, paint chipping off everything, bathroom outdated and looked dirty, random screws sticking out of the desk. Hotel is also a Mercure and not labeled as ‘by Sunday’ so we thought we were in the wrong place
Location
Very noisy until 4am, lots of things broken in room, bar and restaurant closed except for breakfast. Whole place is run down.
Historic hotel in a great location . Photos of famous guests on the old staircase walls. Room spacious and well appointed, with king size bed.
TV Remote didn't work so just used controls on TV
The location of the property and the quirkiness of it was appealing, everything on your doorstep.
The rooms are slightly on the wonk probably due to it begin an old building, the floor in our room felt lopsided and floorboards were unbelievably creaky. Absolutely shocked by the duvets. We spotted these at 11pm at night and it’s safe to say we didn’t sleep well due to the worry of hygiene. I had previously asked for extra duvet as air con made me cold but reception said couldn’t get them until the next day. Such a shame when the hotel is placed perfectly. I reached out to the hotel and just got an apology which was disappointing as I thought maybe they would have liked a chance to revisit and rectify my opinion of them
Room was fine as was the location.
Stairs between floors three and four closed off.
Great location and decor
Uncomfortable bed
Great location, friendly and helpful staff, very clean, good facilities
Nothing, it was great
Good
Locetion
Location. That's it.
I woke up with insect bites after sleeping in the bed, the room was dirty, the shower cubicle was tiny and falling apart, and the room smelled of mould.
The history, the staff (Sasha I think) was amazing
Due to the business acquisition the old sign Mercure is on the front and if the reception team had not been outside at the time then it would have been confusing thinking it was the right place.
I recently stayed at this hotel and had hardly any sleep for my two consecutive night stay. My room was opposite a nightclub and for some reason the sash window had been fixed in an open position with only a thin piece of Perspex to keep the noise out. It didn’t work; the noise was unbearable and whilst the nightclub closed at 4.00am the noise continued when people were leaving the nightclub. I did not wish to stay for my second night and sought the manager the next morning. I was advised that no manager was working and that the receptionist was not authorised to give me a refund for the second night. Neither was a telephone number available to contact customer support. My only option was an email. I sent an email and got an automated response (Ticket Id: 3003488943). As I sit here three days later, I have still not had the courtesy of a reply from Oyo. I was under the impression that this was a Mercure Hotel. With their departure any semblance of professionalism has gone. The new owners Oyo are clearly putting profits before standards and have cut back on staff leaving a new receptionist and the cook to unsuccessfully resolve my problem. Do not stay at this hotel, it is a disgrace.
Middle of lovely neighbourhood. Well appointed room with aircon (it was very hot that day so this was most welcome)
Not much!
Good size room for cost and great location
Bar was closed
