Excellent location, even though opposite train station very quiet. Room was lovely, big corner bath with over head shower, massive 4 poster bed.

A hotel with character and great location. Reception staff helpful. Saturday morning breakfast good.

The rooms aren’t well sound proofed. Unfortunately we had some noisy neighbours Thursday night, so we didn’t get much sleep at all. Friday morning breakfast was disorganised and not very good. The pub next door was very rowdy. Could do with a lounge bar, somewhere a bit quieter for residents.

Absolutely filthy. Clumps of hair on the bathroom wall, on the bed, on the window sill and in the bed. Filthy stained towel with make up, mold and brown marks on them. Suspect the room was not cleaned after previous guest. There is a clean every three days policy at this hotel and probably made an error. Unfortunately we were rushing for party so did not clock this until we needed to be elsewhere. The hotel was full so swapping rooms was not an option for us. Check the room thoroughly before accepting would be my advice. Generally the hotel has seen better days. Tired throughout. TV on wall had no control so pointless. Would not stay again. Have complaint in with management so will see what their response is. Will update if positive.

The room was so hot (heatwave) we were in the attic and it was too hot - hotter than the lobby and hallways and only a small window opening. The fan was dirty and didnt move the air. This was changed. They also managed to change our room eventually after complaining numerous times. We paid a lot of money for this room (graduation event). The rooms were not comfortable, rather dated and not as clean as I had hoped.

Breakfast was a good selection well cooked. Excellent period hotel.

Lift was out of order. We were warned before visit. But on late arrival there was one person working. They needed a porter.

The fire alarm went off in the early hours of the morning so we had to evacuate. luckily it was a false alarm. Lift was also out of order which meant lugging bags up and down stairs. Ok for us but difficult for older guests.

Staff helpful, reserved a disabled parking space for us and arranged interconnecting rooms. Restaurant/pub food was lovely even though we were the only ones having a meal the food was freshly cooked.

The walls are thin - not the hotels fault but other guest fighting made the nighttime hard to sleep from all the banging and shouting

Lifts still don’t work. Up and down four flights of stairs continually to get a key card refreshed - it would only work once at a time. Fire alarm (false) at 5am. Strongly suspect I have got bed bugs.

I stayed at this property last October and it was great - awesome location to the station and close to the city centre and it was comfortable and clean.

This time there were a lot of issues - first they sent me an email about the lift being broken as I had a baby with me I asked them for help to get to the room which was good - but it was horribly hot in the room, the windows couldn’t be opened properly and no air con. There was a large fan but I didn’t put that on as it would have just pushed around hot air and dust. Also they drew the curtains to keep the sun out but the curtains were threadbare with holes so it didn’t really work. My baby had problems sleeping and the next day I did ask them if something could be done but the woman with the brown hair and glasses was really rude and didn’t help. I was very unhappy. The trip was great but I hated going into that hotel in the afternoon. We were staying there for three nights and it was the night before we left that a nice man at the front desk said he could move me and baby into a premier room. But there really wasn’t a point then as we were leaving the next day. I’m so disappointed

Dirty, lift didn’t work which wasn’t a problem as we were 1st floor but the main stairs were filthy . First impressions and all that wasn’t great. The room absolutely stunk and couldn’t open the windows , carpet had stains all over . Definitely could do with a spring clean .

As always, a fantastic stay! You really cannot beat the Rougemont for position to the city centre (level walk), distance from Exeter Central train station, value for money, friendly and helpful staff and rooms are always a good size (have stayed in standard double, premium double and standard twin rooms over the past couple of years). Rooms are clean, comfy beds, with a tea and coffee tray, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, a pedestal fan and decent mirrors too.

There really is nothing!

We arrived earlier than expected but our room was ready so we were able to check in. The Reception staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Checking the car in for the car park for our stay was super easy too.

The lifts were out of order again. Fortunately, it was only a short stay so we didn't have too much luggage. Hopefully, they will have been repaired by the time we stay again in November and December. The water available for drinking in reception was warm............

Room was clean and spacious. There was adequate parking when we arrived. The reception staff were extremely helpful.

The hotel is in an excellent location just a short walk from the centre of town and shopping/restaurants, and also being across the street from the local train station. The staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful, especially Nathan on reception who went above and beyond to assist us. We had an iron and ironing board, a proper hairdryer and a stand alone fan in the room as well as tea making facilities. The room and bathroom was very clean.

For a hotel of this size, the breakfast was disappointing. They had only filter or instant coffee and no cappucino or latte machine available. There was bread and a toaster but only jam, marmalade, honey or Marmite to put on it - no cold meats, cheeses, tomato etc. We felt that it was expensive at £14, given the lack of options.

This was a return visit. I was here last week. The hotel is excellent, and I was given a superior room for the night - with views over the city. Staff helpful bringing my bags up and down. I would highly recommend this hotel

Would have liked biscuits, maybe small fridge with the the water and drinks provided , much needed in a heatwave ! Drinks and water warm so not nice. Always need a biscuit! Had to move kettle to find a plug for it. Fridge would have felt bit more special, luxurious plus mini bar option . Also parking issue personally, but resolved by helpful staff , otherwise a problem.

First off after checking in we were told the lift was not working, as our room was on the first floor I told the receptionist that I would have difficulty climbing the stairs, there was no acknowledgment that this would cause any inconvenience, the lift remained out of action for our entire stay and consequently my movement around the Hotel was on a strictly necessary basis. The room was as advertised , the bed was adequate,,there was no air conditioning and the windows were sealed . A fan was provided and the circulation of the air gave some comfort. The room was not serviced for the second night , it would have had the tea / coffee replenished at least.

It’s great location - directly opposite Exeter Central Railway Station. Very comfortable room, with up to date bathroom. Easy to walk to lots of things of interest; and hotel did good breakfasts

A lovely looking old hotel in the heart of Exeter. Great location near amenities. The staff were civil enough and the beds were comfortable.

I’ve never left a poor review before but on this occasion I feel I have to. We got no sleep. The hotel had year round duvets on the beds - I checked and these were 10.5 tiff when the temperature outside was 26/27 degrees, and the temperature in the room probably more like 30 degrees. There were fans in the room - nominally second floor but higher in reality because of the staircases so more like 3rd/4th floor. I appreciate the gesture but they did nothing as there was no cross flow (corridor windows were sealed shut presumably for safety reasons?). We had windows open all night but couldn’t stop sweating, without any cuvées at all. Shame as the beds were comfy and pillows also ok. We couldn’t get the wifi to work despite following instructions. The bathroom sink was clogged and filled after a few seconds of running the tap so pipes must be blocked. There was hot water for the shower first thing in the morning (we needed a wash after the night we had!) but on arrival in the afternoon, the best it could manage was barely tepid. The lift wasn’t working so you had to haul your suitcases up several flights of stairs and no assistance was offered. Hopefully this is fixed now as I saw several old people hobbling down on sticks and trying to lug bags - I did see one being helped by a member of staff too, in their defence. As for the heat, not their fault but I think something more needs to be done by hotels in this situation or some recompense offered to guests in what are very uncomfortable conditions. A lot of older folk were gathered in the ground floor reception area in the morning, sitting on the sofas/chairs there, as it was the only bearable location in the hotel. I really felt for them. I hate to think how bad it got when temperatures have been over 30 degrees C externally multiple times this summer… I was very relieved it was only a night’s stay.

Sehr freundliches Personal. Das Zimmer liegt zentral am Central Bahnhof und zur Innenstadt waren es nur wenige Minuten zu Fuß gewesen. Das Zimmer war ordentlich. Insgesamt ein schönes Hotel, was bereits etwas älter ist. Das Frühstück war ebenfalls lecker und vielseitig. Man hat eine gute Auswahl zwischen kalten und warmen Mahlzeiten.

I had a double room which was smaller than the twin room my sister had. Plus she paid less for the room. Did not have a mirror over the dressing table, which the twin room also had.

Drakes bar. Bar staff friendly but not aware of offers displayed on reception. After checking with reception we ordered the burger and house drink deal. When paying we were charged for drinks, apparently not in deal. Drinks in the deal not explained or made aware of choice of drinks inc. Also returned later to hotel for coffee, informed we had to order at bar, but no bar staff present. Receptionist offered to go and find bar staff but we decided to go to nearby cafe instead. Bar definately let our visit down. Not very professional.

Some of the decor was lovely. Stained glass window was beautiful.

Carpets were dirty and very badly stained. Whole place was very dated and in need of upgrades throughout. I used the disabled toilet downstairs and not a toilet roll near the toilet but up on a high shelf which if you were in a wheelchair would have been impossible to reach. Breakfast was of very low quality and staff were difficult to find. Over all a poor standard of service from all but desk staff.

Poor maintenance of the building: squeaky doors and floors, windows that cannot be properly open to ensure enough ventilation even during a heatwave, black mould in the shower, stained carpet, chipped tiles, broken lift so you need to carry your luggage up three floors… just close down the place for a season and re-do it all already. Usual issue with breakfast in Britain: if you don’t go within the first 30/45 minutes since the start of the buffet, you won’t find enough food, which is unacceptable when you have already paid for the service and are told that you can obtain it until a certain time. Really disappointing.

Verstaubtes Hotel. Lift kaputt. Zimmer so klein, dass man beim Eintreten fast übers Bett rollen muss. Die Bewertungen auf Google sind extrem irreführend. Bei uns war alles gegenteilig. Kaputte Vorhänge, schmutziger Teppich - also kein angenehmer Ort zum Verweilen.

The creaky floors of the old building I can understand and tolerate but only 1 of 2 windows opened to their small 2 inch gap - boiling hot even with the provided fan…The walls were so thin I could here what the people in the room next to me were saying. And finally over the 2 nights I was staying I had to get the room card reset 3 times - if they had told me from the start to keep the card away from other chipped cards and electronic devices then I could have saved the 2 flights of stairs and maze of walkways to and from my room (as the lifts were broken!)

Booked in with ease but was then told the lift in the hotel was not working. My wife has a heart condition which meant that our room on the top floor was totally not accessible and involved a 15 minute walk.They informed me that the hotel was full up but the car park in as half empty.!

We Booked a privilege room 323. There was No Mini Bar, No Slippers,No Water, Room Not Soundproof We Could Hear The People Next Door Very Clearly as To What They Were Saying. Our Room Was located Next To The Kitchen Flue That Woke us Up Very Early This Morning As They Were Preparing Breakfast. We only Noticed This Morning When We Checked Out That They Had Charged us Breakfast When We Had Already Paid For This When We Booked it Through Booking.com. We Went To The Pub Next Door Last Night And Was Shocked To See A Lot Of Beers Out Of Stock And Was Informed They Were Waiting For A Delivery, What Was More Shocking Was The Amount Of Bad Language That Was Coming From A Small Group Next To The Bar And The Bar Staff Didn’t Seem To Care About The Language. When We Checked Out This Morning And Bought Our Complaint To The Lady On Reception She Said We Could Take Some Drinks Out The Fridge Next To Reception 🤣🤣🤣 We Paid A Lot Of Money For A Very Poor Service. We Have Stayed In Many Hotels And Can Honestly Say This Is The Worst Hotel We Have Stayed In.
