I had really noisy neighbours and could hear everything they were saying. About 3:00 I knocked on their door and asked politely for them to please keep it down but they didn’t and kinda got louder. I was in room 302 and they were directly across the hall. Also, there was barely any coffee, milk and sugar—certainly not enough for 2 people. Thank you!

The breakfast was good the buffet had pretty much everything you would expect. I loved the fudge served with the tea and coffee (nice touch).

The room I was originally provided was not set up as per my booking but the staff reassigned me a room with a double bed not two singles which was much better. I had contacted the property early to ask for an upgrade and the messages implied I would be given an upgrade so I could be near my family however this was not done and I ended up at the opposite side of the hotel and that was very frustrating especially as I had requested to be close to them and agreed to pay the upgrade fee.

Room was very nice, we stayed in the Annex , the staff were very quick to deal with noisy guests in the room next door. Convenient stop off when travelling north or south on the M6

Clearly communication with regards to breakfast no where in the welcome letter did it state a price for breakfast just breakfast serving times , so assumed it was included we paid 85 pound for our room through booking for com , and if I was to book again even for a Saturday night like the last week it would include breakfast , so not quite sure why out booking did not include breakfast

Location was good and a good breakfast.

Very run down and in need of upgrade. In my opinion not a 4⭐️ facility. Both rooms we booked as a family were extremely dirty and looked like they had not been cleaned properly. Sheets and towels appeared used and the general condition of the room was very poor for a 4⭐️ hotel. (See pictures)This was reported to reception and resulted us checking out of the hotel a day early.

The hotel was lovely and the grounds perfect esp as we had our little dog with us. The room was very pleasant, comfortable and clean.

The only reason I have not given this 10/10 was that there was only one tea bag for what you might call ‘normal tea’ I’m sure many people would consider this unimportant but we arrived late and couldn’t do much about it. There were other choices but I’m afraid a good break tea is a must for us. Otherwise it was a fabulous place and particularly for the money.

We have stayed many times and we enjoyed the stay very much. However when I originally booked the room I chose to stay in one of the feature suits , which we have stayed in previously. However when we arrived at the hotel we were told we were in one of the junior suites. Because we have stayed in the past we didn’t make a fuss as the booking had been made through yourselves. However I will not be using your booking facility again.

Hotel is dated, room looked old, and had a slightly damp musty smell. Needs a good overhaul, as it would be stunning if it had a little tlc on the rooms.

Power cut the day of a wedding, not idea and refused a refund for me to find alternate accommodation.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. A characterful hotel in a beautiful setting.

The staff are always very friendly and helpful. The setting with the reservoir at the back of the property where you can go for a walk is very pleasant.

I have stayed in this hotel many times over the past 15 years. The rooms though still comfortable would be improved with a little updating and it is a shame that the swimming pool and spa are now closed. Though the gym is now open again.

Needs to be refurbished no sockets next to the bed, old tv’s you can keep a classic look but a little modernisation wouldn’t hurt. Breakfast buffet a bit mediocre. The walls are thin you could hear everything.

Place is falling to bits windows falling out, roof tiles falling off the roof. The dining room in disrepair main stairs wall paper falling off from damp. Room shower pouring water over the edge of the shower floor drain system does not work properly room was grubby paint chipping off the windows. food was not cooked and very poor quality being served instant mash not potatoes, pasta not cooked. Had drinks from the bar awful taste, lines not being cleaned correctly.

Terribly outdated rooms. Very scruffy and tatty. On the floor we stayed on, there was the worst smell of cannabis I’d ever smelt. So strong and overpowering. Wish we’d complained when we arrived and asked to move. Lamp was faulty and stained. Damaged skirting boards and mismashes of paint and marks on the wall

Either carpet or curtains was dusty it was getting on my chest was coughing and sore throat it's only dust it happens with We specifically booked the room for the jacuzzi tub as advertised, it didn't even work. My daughter was very disappointed

Breakfast was very good. Buffet style but good quality meat.

Provide an ironing board, iron, hairdryer. Rooms are okay decent size. Fan was a massive bonus in this heat. Its £11 for an uber to the Wigan ground and £8 to wigan city centre.

Absolutely wonderful team - friendly, pay attention to detail, nothing is too big of an ask! We stayed in a suite and it was lovely, spacious, very comfortable, quiet, and we had everything we needed.

It was perfect. No complaints from us!

The room needed a bloody good clean/redecoration. There was dubious stuff across the bottom of the bed. The chairs needed a clean as they were lovely but grim.

Original building is just as shown on Booking.Com, absolutely beautiful.. what they didn't show is the actual accommodation building which is bland, run down and tired.. then there's the smell of weed in the corridors! I'm unsure how it is awarded 4* when it would surely struggle to achieve 2*... Nothing like one of their other hotels near Neston! Staff weren't exactly brimming with happiness either, not a great advert for the hotel group!

The members of staff here, go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for them. My room was clean, comfortable, and included a safe, free to use. The grounds are breathtaking. Lots of green areas and lots of trees. The food is exceptional, with plenty of choice.

I didn't like the fact I was only there for 3 nights. If I had more time off, I would have stayed there longer.

I like everything about this hotel. It has so much character. I think I've stayed here 4-5 times now. This is the only hotel I will stay at when I visit family. Nothing is too much trouble with all members of staff, who are extremely friendly and professional.

Hotel was fine, should have been better

There was no hot water in either of the two rooms. Since we were breaking up a long journey all we really wanted was a good shower and an ok breakfast. Failure on both. When we went for breakfast, we confirmed it was for 5 people and were told to sit anywhere along the windows on the lower level. There were no tables for 5 people. Such a simple thing to get right. Don't really care about the breakfast as we did get seated after asking again, but the ice cold showers are hard to accept paying for.

Lovely setting with a lake and a reservoir nearby. We upgraded the room to a deluxe king room which was nice with a small table and chairs. Good breakfast and toiletries.

The hotel decoration looks tired, shower cubicle has black mold around the base, toilet is too close to the door which made it too difficult to sit on it. No water bottles for guests just an empty jug and glasses. No air conditioning in the room but a fan was provided.

The couple in 309 room were horrendous. They argued all night and then had to on full blast and heard unwanted noises untill 6 am. It was horrendous. With the heat wave I was absolutely sweating to death. No fans or air cons. Windows open about 6 inches no more. Other guests rude xx

Everything was tired old and needs replacing updating , breakfast was awful a spider in my cup , and when I opened my napkin dead flys fell out , however the staff very friendly, and helpful

Dirty tables in reception and bar areas. Bar man unhelpful and rude

Beautiful property with many historic charms. Friendly staff throughout & delicious breakfast buffet. Loved being able to walk around the reservoir too. Incredible value for money, price wasn’t much more expensive than a pub but the hotel & service were worlds apart.

One night to attend local wedding. All OK overall.

1. Attention to detail with cleaning.....seems most focus on bathrooms. Window sill and surrounds fairly grubby. And tv remote was like a science project to be honest. Washed my hands quick after touching it every time. 2. Asked receptionist to organise a taxi for the evening to get to a wedding. Waited at time should have been booked for, but wasn't booked.....other receptionist organised straight away, but we were 15 minutes late.

Staff on arrival were good.

Room was cold and no heating or offer to move rooms. Food basic and had to be returned. Food service poor- smell of smoking and not concentrating in the morning. You get what you pay do in some ways but not as described when booking.

Cold damp and dirty. Male fluids and lipstick on the pillows. Staff never get back to you when promised asked for additional bed never got one. Promised a room change then told I couldn’t. Had to send my children to their grandmas as the hotel wasn’t acceptable. Ended up not staying last night of booking and camping on parents sofa which sums the whole stay up. Booked for 4 nights. Stayed for 3, worst 3 nights ever

The fabulousness of the building and grounds. The staff were very attentive and helpful. A massive building that obviously takes a lot of work, just maybe a couple of touch ups here and there.

We ate in the restaurant, the food was edible but not great value for money. I feel as if I’m being cheeky because the price of our overnight stay made up for it.

The staff were excellent - the menu for the restaurant and resulting food was appalling. And the "bar" was a joke, pumps not working and min. Selection of other drinks etc. The breakfast, however was ok. - staff - Harry etc were charming and very accommodating.
