Great location, easy to check in with friendly staff. Comfortable bed in the room
Had some trouble with being able to lock the room door when going out. The bathroom was a little cramped, especially the shower but that's only a minor thing
Love staying here at the Ambleside inn…. Wonderful staff, comfortable rooms and perfect little town
Nothing I don’t like
Central Friendly. Helpful. Good pub food
Scaffolding all around the building. Had to keep curtains closed for privacy
Breakfast brilliant
Nothing
Friendly, helpful staff. Dog friendly.
Nice room but possibly getting ready for some fresh paint.
Good location, good breakfast choice, comfortable bed.
Unable to work the TV by the remote control, was given another one, but no joy. Staff member tried to sort it, but was unable to, so had to do everything manually.
Ubicacion
The location and the pub itself were excellent.
The bathroom in our room was a really poor standard and tiny. The room was not clean and felt dirty but we just put up with it because we were only there for one night.
Great location, nice big warm room, very nice breakfast.
The water to make tea was not boiling...u can't make good tea unless it's boiling...I know the boiler would give off steam...problem ??? Use a kettle or three.
Perfect location for us, staff and food were excellent
Property not worth of what I paid. No electric point for fan in kids room

Lovely Inn in the heart of Ambleside. Also a very nice breakfast and personnel
Location is perfect of course. That’s it.
Staff were totally overwhelmed by the amount of people waiting for service and in consequence, tables were a in a rather bad state with plates and glasses everywhere. As far as trying to return the key and get a receipt in the morning at 7? Forget it. No one around except the cleaning staff and the door was locked up anyway. Luckily, the cleaning crew were kind enough to unlock the door but after standing/walking around to ask someone, nah. I gave up and left the key on the bar.
Perfect location and lovely staff. A great hotel to base a walking holiday.
Location perfect dog friendly 👍
Location was amazing. Rooms where a good size, comfortable and clean. We had food here during our stay which was incredible, good menu selection for both adults and children. Friendly and accommodating staff, we had a laugh with Josh he was great and the breakfast team where also fabulous. We would absolutely return here to stay again!
We where seated at a reserved table around 4.30pm and asked to place our order at 5pm once service began in order to allow enough time to complete our meal and for them to have the table back for 7pm. This was no problem for us, we ordered on time despite the large que, food took around 45 minutes to arrive as it was busy. We had no issues waiting and managed to eat and order dessert by 20 past 6 giving us 40 minutes to eat and leave the table. Desserts took over half an hour to arrive and at around 6.40pm, before they had arrived we where approached by a gentleman - who we later discovered to be of the management team - and rudely told the table was needed back in 10 minutes and to basically hurry up and move. We tried to explain about our desserts but he had said there was no time and hurried off. We then spoke to a lovely woman, also management, who was shocked we had still been waiting on desserts and reassured us that we would not be rushed off the table and accommodated for us and the reserved party who had arrived. Again we had no issue waiting on food we appreciate a busy restaurant and timing was not the problem, just the rudeness of the gentleman who spoke to us poorly is what has taken our stay from 10 star to 9 sadly.
Centraal in Ambleside. Prima kamer (single room) met alle benodigdheden.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming Breakfast was great The location is great for exploring the town and local countryside
The bed was made up of two single mattresses on a small double base,so nearly rolled out of bed multiple times, pillows were uncomfortable also
Location is fantastic , food really good Staff amazing, nice clean room.
Room very hot and no fan provided window opens very slight not enough to cool the room which made it difficult to get a good nights sleep. Parking is always an issue in Ambleside, but you can park outside the hotel from 6pm -10am if you get a space.
Great location
No lift for the top floor. Expensive like most acomadation in the lakes.
Everything was conveniently close by, and the staff were wonderful, friendly, and very accommodating. They were especially understanding with our early check-in and late check-out. The only thing that could be improved is the comfort of the pillows, which could be a little more comfortable.
Great location, good atmosphere, nice breakfast. The window could stay open during the evening as yes you hear some noise but not too loud. The village was a positive surprise, the Ambleside Inn building/atmosphere as well
Happy with the room but if I have to make a point on what could be improved: missed airconditioning but understand this is difficult in an old building
Struttura tipica in bella posizione. Bella colazione sia dolce che salata.
Non aveva aria condizionata ma un ventilatore. Noi siamo stati in giornate calde e la sera la camera era un po’ calda.
Great location, room ,restaurant and bar
Leaving
Great location in Ambleside. Staff were friendly. Evening meal in bar very good
Room was extremely hot, only one of the windows opened a few inches despite there being 3 large windows in the room. Fan in room could only be placed on bedside table right next to bed to be effective due the the size and design of the room. Booked as a couple with dog but came solo - would have struggled with dog in size of room . Free drink process for not having room service was not easily accessible
Large room (especially for a single guest!) overlooking the main shopping street, and with views of the fells. Thought it might be noisy outside at night, but not really a problem.
The reception and waiting staff were all very helpful and friendly. Great cooked breakfasts, as well as optional evening meals in the bar area. Learnt to order early as it sometimes took quite a while for hot food to be delivered to the table.
The staff were excellent, very helpful, friendly, and BBC approachable. Room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and location is Ideal.
The shower in the room was leaking, the shower was very small in a larger bathroom. For a family room that flerps 4, there was not many plug sockets.
We came as a walk in 9 (7 adults and 2 children) and they were super open to us and sorted us a table very quickly, which we appreciated as we were such a a large group! Food came quickly for a large group and was excellent, service was very good and laid back. Highly recommend.
Absolute pleasent experience in the dogging area
Location
Not a 4 star, electric issues in the room, pillows uncomfortable, person checking in was charging incorrectly and couldn't sleep with the noise outside.
Lovely room, nice and quiet and really nice view of the town. Very clean and staff were very helpful and let us leave our bags before check in.
Nothing at all I didn't like, I did accidently get charged twice on the machine so that could be more clear on the success screen for the card scanner. However due to receive refund soon so no complaints there.
All was good
No complaints. The staff were very accommodating
Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Location was very easy to get into Ambleside.
Nothing really. It would help to have a bar of soap rather than just the bottles on the wall as having a bath was tricky.
We ordered sirloin steaks for 2 people but there wasn't any sirloin available. We had the tomahawk recommended as it was a new addition to the menu. This came as a sharing platter for 2 people. However it was very disappointing because although it was a sharing platter for 2 it had only one small portion of chips which were barely enough for 1 person. Also it came with 1 small flat mushroom and only half a tomato. The steak was good but small. If we had had the sirloins we would have had our own full portion of chips, a full mushroom and a half tomato to ourselves for the same price as the tomahawk sharing platter. We spoke to staff about this . One member of staff did agree that thete wasn't enough for 2 people with this meal. This was very disappointing.
I left an important item at this Inn and spent over two full days trying to get through to them to see if they had it. There was no way to contact any person at the hotel directly, only to speak with an off-site call service worker at the Inn Collection. I left innummerable email messages, increasingly marked urgent, as did several call service workers. NO ONE ever responded. I finally had to especially travel back to the hotel to ask about the item in person, which had been sitting in the office the entire time. TERRIBLE LACK OF ATTENTION TO AN IMPORTANT AND DISTRESSING ISSUE.
La déco du pub et son ambiance, le petit-déjeuner copieux et varié, la taille et confort du lit, la localisation
La propreté des toilettes
Very central
Toilet was full of excrement on arrival on back of toilet and someone else’s clothes in the wardrobe. All staff apart from one particular gentleman were excellent
The staff are all lovely and friendly.
Breakfast not included and if it was they didn't have a vegan choice but you would off expected Breakfast included for the prices There was nothing to like
Staff not shouting at customer especially when young children are around Better lighting in room Black mould in the shower T.V remote didn't work
Do not have a meal here Popped in for a meal last week Initially ordered the mussels but was told they didn't have it. I then ordered the game pie...and again...they didn't have it So I settled on the steak and ale pie When my pie came it looked nice However the mash was tepid and bland The veg was underdone And the pie had two pieces of beef in. Only 2 This restaurant is appalling and clearly chefs and kitchen staff have no experience how to portion dishes evenly, or they just dont care
Very central to Ambleside and easy to find
Lots of scaffolding up at the time of our visit but that can’t be helped -older properties need more work -simple !
Amazing staff, amazing location, amazing food
Too hot
The breakfast was very nice and it was in a good location.
The hotel rooms are looking very tired and need updating.
Lovely friendly staff especially the Spanish lady a big smile and makes you laugh every morning. The room and bed was so comfy. Great variety for breakfast cooked breakfast eggs perfect 👌. The Ambleside Inn is so central for buses to hop on to visit any part of the villages or a train, it's a beautiful place to stay and visit the Lakes.
Location was great, room was adequate
Desperately needs some form of air conditioning. It was extremely hot and uncomfortable
Can't comment on the main menu, but I'd suggest you go anywhere else in Ambleside for a roast dinner. I left still starving, they charge extra as a "side" for things that should be in every roast like stuffing. Gave the dogs a bit of the food and was told off, to quote "we don't do that here". Paid 140 pounds to feed 4 adults and 2 children and not one of us left satisfied. 2/10 (only because the Spanish woman was lovely). Only reason I'd go back is if I was desperate for the toilet.
Location
Room was like a oven and didn't sleep for 2 days ,heard at least 5 other people complain about it ,obviously its the building but definitely put me off staying here again
Only fault no lift not easy for disabled person a lot of steps
No disability toilet and a long way to go and the steps
Good staff, food and clean rooms. Everything you would expect from a busy pub at the centre of Ambleside. A happy stay catching up with friends

Good food & service in the restaurant . Breakfast was good. Clean. Great location.
No parking & confusing info about this given. Our room was at the top of the hotel, about 5 floors up & there wasn't a lift! So that was exhausting especially in the heat wave. Also being at the top our room was constantly boiling. Tho a fan was supplied in their defence. The room was satisfactory & clean on arrival but wasn't serviced the whole time we were there(3 nights). I didn't tick the no service box for a drink on the app. The shower was very poor. On our last morning there was no water at all! Out of the hotels hands I realise but they should have informed people & delivered a bottle of water to each room so we could at least wash or clean our teeth. The restaurant did have water however tho there were other issues, no fruit juice, which my husband asked twice for & there had been no boiling water for the tea since we arrived so we had to ask for that too. Both of which could have been sorted. There was plenty of staff but no one seemed to be doing anything. There seemed to be a general lack of info given all round. We would eat here if in the area but sadly not stay over night again, too many issues for us.
Location was excellent
No loo roll in room on arrival and room was extremely room. No dog bowls provided . Unable to open widows more, limited ventilation.
Clean, nice sized room. Appreciated the fan left in the room. Check in and out was easy. Location was good, though parking was a chore and no guest parking. Liked that we could easily walk to a restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was good.
Great location, simple and tidy room.
I had a pipe running through the room near the ceiling that I could hear dripping in.
Property and location was great! Only thing we could have done with was a fan as the room was a bit warm on the night.
Nothing. Brilliant place to stay.
Leuke plaats, mooie locatie, gezellig, leuk restaurant.
Badkamer was wat gedateerd. Vloer kraakt waardoor je mensen boven je hoort lopen.
Do not pay for this breakfast, most definitely the worse we’ve ever had in the lakes, you wouldn’t feed it to your dog, won’t be staying again 💯
Very central. Had fan in room .good breakfast
No parking. Scaffolding up at beginning of stay .
Nice Inn friendly and helpfull staff
Centre lication
Functional but wouldn’t stay again and certainly not for a holiday.
Undergoing building works which we weren’t advised about. Window opened to scaffolding with lots of dust and debris. Glad I had not booked for a proper holiday.
Good location
The room wasn’t very clean. It was in the process of being renovated and felt old and dirty. The curtains didn’t shut, the room was very small and outside was scaffolding. The poached eggs at breakfast weren’t cooked.altogether a very poor experience.
Great location and very friendly staff
Scaffolding outside our window with builders working - and no warning or discounted price
The location
Tiny room. Top floor. Very very hot and claustrophobic. Only able to open the window 6 inches. Fan provided but was very dirty and dusty. Not value for money. Breakfast was mediocre, cheap bread, coffee not good.
Food was good and staff were great.
Whole place was very noisy both inside and outside the hotel. Rubbish was left in the room. No fridge in room. Ceiling in room was very low making room feel small.
Clesn, comfort
Location
In badly need of a refurbishment
Ambleside Inn is centrally located in the heart of the city, making it a convenient base for visitors. Nearby, there are several major retail outlets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Coop, all within walking distance. The inn is also close to two popular natural attractions: the Rydal River, known for its tranquil waters and scenic walks, and the Stock Ghyll Waterfall, famous for its picturesque cascade and lush surroundings. Additionally, the nearby Cake Shop offers a delightful selection of baked goods and local treats, adding to the area's charm.
It was extremely hot, with the summer sun beating down relentlessly. The fan they provided was small and barely distributed the cool air, rendering it ineffective. The pedestal fan, intended to provide relief, was insufficient for the size of the room and did little to ease our discomfort.
In the heart of Ambleside, at the start of some great walks. Staff were super friendly and rooms clean and big enough for 4 friends sharing.
Beautiful setting in heart of town Cosy pub Friendly and helpful staff throughout Lovely food and great choice at breakfast Comfortable clean room
Friendly staff
The towels aren't that clean sadly, 2 out of many towels have some dark spots.
Breakfast was varied and very tasty
Everything was good
The room was clean, bed was comfortable. The breakfast was nice and the staff seemed very helpful and pleasant
It was a shame that there was scaffolding up when we arrived. It would have been nice to been made aware. The menu was quite expensive. The room was quite small.
Excellent property
Housekeeping manager walking in my room on the night not reading a paperwork that I was staying there for two nights demanding that I needed to check out she needs to be more professional
We had a fantastic stay at the Ambleside Inn. The location couldn't have been better, right in the heart of Ambleside, making it the perfect base for exploring the town, visiting the local shops and cafés, and heading out on walks without needing to use the car. The bar was one of the highlights of our stay. It had a lovely atmosphere throughout the day and into the evening, with a relaxed, welcoming feel that made it a great place to unwind after a day exploring the Lake District. The décor was inviting, there was a good choice of drinks, and it had a real buzz without feeling overcrowded. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable and well maintained, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. We felt well looked after from check-in to check-out. Overall, the Ambleside Inn offers excellent value in a superb central location, with a great atmosphere that really adds to the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return the next time we're visiting the Lake District.
The only real downside to our stay was the parking. The Ambleside Inn does not have its own on-site parking, or even parking nearby. We had to use a public car park approximately a 5 to 10 minute walk away, which wasn't ideal, particularly when arriving with luggage or returning after a long day exploring the Lake District. While we appreciate that parking is limited in Ambleside, it is something prospective guests should be aware of before booking. That said, the hotel's excellent central location and welcoming atmosphere still made for a very enjoyable stay overall.
Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order
Was obvious refurbishment going on which we weren’t informed about lots of scaffolding some evidence of plaster off wall in bathroom also
The location was great only thing no parking facilities.
The property was having work done so were woken up by workmen, couldn’t open curtains as they were right outside our window .
We stayed at the Ambleside Inn for one night on Monday 29 June 2026 and had a thoroughly enjoyable visit. The hotel's location is excellent, right in the centre of Ambleside, making it the perfect base for exploring the town. With shops, cafés, pubs and beautiful walking routes all just a few minutes away, everything is on your doorstep. Our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and, despite the central location, wonderfully quiet. We had a peaceful night's sleep and found it to be a relaxing place to unwind after a day exploring the Lake District. We booked the bed and breakfast package, and breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. The quality of the food was excellent, and the portion sizes were generous. I chose the poached eggs with spinach, and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection with beautifully runny yolks. The spinach was fresh and well-seasoned, everything arrived piping hot, and it was a delicious, filling breakfast that set us up perfectly for the journey home. The only downside was the parking. The hotel doesn't have its own on-site parking, so guests need to use a public car park around a 5 to 10 minute walk away. It wasn't a major inconvenience, but it's worth being aware of if you're travelling with luggage or have mobility concerns. Overall, we had a fantastic one-night stay. The combination of a superb central location, a peaceful and comfortable room, an excellent breakfast and friendly service made for a very enjoyable experience. We'd happily stay at the Ambleside Inn again and would have no hesitation recommending it to others visiting the Lake District.
Large family suite for an Inn. Great dinner and breakfast.
Excellent local produce for Breakfast
Front of house not particularly organised in explaining service and directing to tables
Everything
The first room wasn't made up and dirty it had been missed on the cleaning so this was sorted by hoping to receptionist and given a different room.
Just a tip for dog owners staying at The Ambleside Inn, request a lower floor if taking your dog!. We have just returned from a weekend stay and also took our dog. Our room was on the highest floor in the building. Lots of stairs and no lift! Our dog cannot manage stairs so had to be carried. The heat in the room was umbearably hot even when weather cooled down. We asked to change rooms having regard to the sweltering heat and worries of our dog over heating but were declined. The room was not value for the money we paid. Breakfast very nice and also a great location.
Location
No parking No lift
Beautiful inn. Lovely area
Very hot room even with a fan
The breakfast was excellent . Plenty of choice . Very fast service from friendly staff.
BEWARE THE INN COLLECTION METHOD. You look at the hotel details (images great write up good) all looks fantastic. You’ve even stayed with them before, and it was alright. They offer free breakfast and reduced rate if you agree to a No Refund Policy !! Then you arrive and the Hotel is a building site, wall to wall and floor to roof scaffolding, building debris all around the outside and dust on all the windows. Your view out of the window in your bedroom is more dirty windows and scaffolding. There is a loud electrical buzzing in your room and even the member of staff who comes up to check says she wouldn’t stay in the room. We were later told that it was the extractor fan in the bathroom that comes on every time it’s used. So you decide that it’s not what was advertised or what you wanted for your Father’s Day weekend and inform the manager that you are not going to stay due to all of the above. The response is WE HAVE A NO REFUND POLICY AND THE SAME RESPONSE FROM GUEST SERVICES DO NOT EVER PAY UP FRONT
Everything this is really good value for money. The service was was excellent and staff was very friendly and helpful.
Absolutely nothing
Great location in the centre of Ambleside. Good breakfast
Unable to check-in at 3pm as advertised, apparently due to external works on the building which meant the rooms were not ready. We had arrived wet after a long walk so not a great start, though reception did store our backpacks. There was scaffolding everywhere and next morning workmen were up and outside our window by 8am.
Good location. Staff very helpful
Scaffolding over the entire building for exterior work project. Our window and sill were filthy. Also the lighting in the room inadequate- very dull. Felt like we were in a cave. Poor air circulation in our room. My husband disliked breakfast.
Everything you couldn't ask for more was a fantastic visit can't wait to go again.
As only a one night stay everything was great for us no issues all staff were fantastic with us can't of asked for more.
My husband and I had dinner at the Ambleside Inn. He ordered the Gammon Steak and I had steak pie. His Gammon was undercooked and they took it back and prepared another. My steak pie was so bad I wouldn't feed it to my dog! There was no meat in the pie whatsoever, just unrecognisable contents and the pastry so hard I struggled to cut it with a knife. This dinner set us back just short of £50 which included 2 drinks. They have you pay upfront so there is nothing you can do about it unfortunately as they have your money before you get the food. The waiter was very apologetic and understood that the pies are not the best. This food is definitely not good value for money and there are much better quality restaurants in the area if you want a nice meal at a reasonable price.
Excellent hotel in the centre of Ambleside. Great value for money. Good breakfast. Room comfy and clean. Everything you need. Happy helpful staff. There was renovation work being done but no disruption to our stay
Nothing
Clean, convenient location, larger room, quiet
No parking, but staff was helpful in finding long term (overnight) parking not terribly far away
We had lunch at the Ambleside Inn with our dog and a group of friends. We each had different meals, and all were fantastic. My Scampi and Chips with a side of onion rings were exactly as they should have been. Perfect! There were even dishes specifically for dogs. Would recommend
Staff were really helpful.
Scaffold around the building
Me and my wife have been in the Ambleside Inn quite a few times when we go up to the lakes it's a nice place very busy. But on this occasion we could not believe the response from the staff. We had sat down for something to drink avoiding the table behind and the opposite table as one was broke for 18.30pm and the other 17.30pm. Two young lads came in set at the table behind us, this was about 18.05pm and where non stop talking they did not buy a drink they just sat there opened boxes of food bought from Gregs and preceded to eat. Well the talking so loud and fast I looked round to see this I went over to the guy on the bar told him what was happening saying "are you allowed to eat other peoples food in here and not even buy a drink' he said 'no your not"then told him about the two lads who where just doing thatch said ill tell my colleague. A young girl came over was looking round,I pointed them out to her, then she said to them you're not supposed to eat in here and walked away. The lads sat there for another ten mins then left. Very disappointed in the way the staff handle a situation like that bad response unprofessional. Next time I think will come in with a pizza from over the road and a drink from Tesco. Ive provided the picture of them so you can see what was happening there was more food there just before that.
Great location. All food was excellent particularly the breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful and even provided a cut up bowl of sausage for the dog. Blanket and bowl in room for dog too.
Rooms a little dated but ok. Great value for the money.
