The location was good for the railway station , Gunwarf Quays dockyard and busses. We only ate breakfast there which was a very basic menu, but cooked ok..

The hotel entrance was terrible. The carpet was coming up and wasn't very clean. The room was basic ,windows dirty,and looking out of the window to the back of the hotel was disgraceful. We had to ask for a hairdryer which was filthy. I didn't like the way the staff were dressed. But worst of all the lock on our door got stuck and we couldn't open our door ,we picked up the phone to tell reception that we couldn't get out of our room only to find the phone wasn't working. I had to use my own phone to get a hold of reception for help. WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF THERE WAS A FIRE I HATE TO THINK . WE WERE ON THE THIRD FLOOR. I should have got some sort of compensation as that was a bad situation.

Peoximity to station and ferry. Willing ness to bring me extra duvet. Good bar area with books. A lift!

It was dated, dirty, smelly and the beds were really old and uncomfortable. For the price per night it was really disappointing. We couldn’t use the shower as it was so dirty.

Regular visitor. We like location. On this occasion we had just come off ferry from St Malo. Staff are always very pleasant and breakfast is nice.

We have a van and can usually park but unfortunately on this occasion we couldn’t and spent considerable time trying to find somewhere.

Dirty dark room. Had to ask room cleaner to clean outside of shower tray- dirty with hairs. Bed head was dusty. Small room with one long frosted glass window. Curtain come of one or two hooks. Opened the window and saw to overlook enclosed area which had air con pipes and trunking. Room was small and dingy. Asked if could change room. Was only offered an upgrade for an extra £50 per night which we refused. Staff pleasant enough but didn’t feel very welcoming. Do not recommend and will not return.

Air con was great. Good location. Was good to have somewhere to park. The lady on reception on the first day was lovely.

Cleanliness wasn’t good - one of the towels was dirty and we found someone’s used fake eyelashes under the table in the main room. Barely any natural daylight as window faced a brick wall, which was very disappointing. The lady on reception/breakfast room on the second day was slightly abrasive in her manner. There was a notice in the bathroom which asked guests not to throw condoms down the loo. This was completely inappropriate as we were in a family room with our children and added to general feeling that the room wasn’t clean. There was also staining on the wall and damage to the bathroom door.

Breakfast was good. Staff were very pleasant. Hotel was quiet. Location was superb.

Staff very condescending..except Fiona very nice, Hue was accusing, Fay was arrogant and Matty was ok.. the first thing I asked before checking in was there air conditioning. Fay reassured there was and it was checked the week before. So when I couldn’t turn air conditioner on or wasn’t working I asked for help as the room was 30c. The window opened 1/2 inch with out any breeze and the fan was just circulating hot air.. I again asked Fay for help as nothing seemed to be working maybe I wasn’t doing something correctly? She said give it time. Which I did. When I approached her again after a ling flight than bus ride being tired and time zone difference. She told me I had to wait 30 minutes and that she was nice and comfortable at the desk without air conditioners on 😳. I wish my room was as comfortable. She then stated most places don’t have aircondtioner in Britain.. I found her lacking in customer support and service. I waited for Hue who immediately stated that I booked via bookings.com and they don’t advertise air conditioning. I let him know I asked before I checked in.. after a little back and forth and me willing to check out and look for another place they finally said they have 1 room with air conditioning which they then accommodate us.. I was even willing to pay any extra cost.. but it was not necessary.. the bar and restaurant service and food were good

I had a great room, spacious, clean, looked out over the Spinnaker Tower and the Warrior, and had a really comfortable bed.

The window didn’t fit particularly well so I had two nights of wind whistling through and it was noisy. I should have bought some earplugs which were available to buy from reception.

It’s a cheap hotel, just bare basics. I sent a message to the hotel theough booking.com asking if they have AC and they told me that they have AC in all rooms. Well they do have them, but they don’t work. Upon check in we were told we have ac in the room, we left our luggage in the room (its a struggle! the lift took us to floor 1, then we had to carry the heavy luggage up further 10 steps until we reached our room) and we left to discover the area. Returned to our room at 9pm to discover that Ac doesnt work. Called reception asking for another room and told us all booked, and suggested to use fan, which was all dusty. Atleast she managed to change our fan. The next morning we saw that there was a sign on reception desk saying they do not advertise AC so clearly they have been having issues. Unfortunately we didnt see the sogn before if it was there.

2 min from gunwarf quays. Main breakfast room has so much character. All staff helpful. Parking. Such good value for money.

Furniture in room is so old and tatty, only fit for the tip. It wouldn't cost much to refurnish with better second hand furniture.

C'è accanto anche un bellissimo pub 🍻 dove trascorrere una piacevolissima serata. Consigliatissimo. Le camere hanno un arredamento semplice, sono spaziose così come i bagni. Consigliatissimo.

Slow checkin

The dining area and breakfast. Also the location was quite good.

It was 27deg in our room and there was an AC unit that didn’t work. It seems common from reviews of this hotel and I suspect management has turned them off to save $. Also there was no hot water from our shower. Finally to top it off the mattress felt like a rock.

Friendly welcome and easy going

We visited gunwharf quays for some shopping and to also walk over to Southsea and enjoy the sunshine. We usually visit for the day but this time decided to stay the night as we live around 1hr30 drive away, and thought it would be nice to go out for dinner and have a few drinks without having to rush and head home. The kepples head ticked all of the boxes and offered everything we needed, the location was perfect being only a few mins pleasant walk to the shopping centre. The hotel had a very authentic feel and you instantly got that seaside charm upon stepping inside. The staff were very friendly, checking in and out was easy, they also have a nice little cosy bar in reception. The room was clean and well presented, nice and quiet considering the location. The breakfast was also better than I was expecting which was included on the price of the room we booked. Obviously this isn’t a luxury hotel but it’s not claiming to be, if you’re looking for somewhere convenient to stay then you will struggle to find a hotel which is better located which offers better value for money. I would stay here again if I was planning another trip with the intention of staying a night or 2

The only minor issues we had was that the aircon didn’t work very well and also the water pressure in the shower wasn’t great. Other than that I can’t fault the hotel or service

Room 16 was not good, no bedside table or lamp on right side of bed. It was a double room but only one chair, getting into bed on the right hand side was very tight squeeze. We will not stay there again

The bed , pillows were horrendous and very uncomfortable … didn’t want to go bear foot on the carpet as it felt grubby…

Location, good, incredible really close to the Historic Dockyard as we wanted. But very noisy as the Train, coach and bus station are opposite. Noise of vehicles reversing out and trains constant. Although not a problem for us. Staff friendly, kind enough to explain free parking on arrival and got a pass for the car 48 hrs from 2pm Friday until also allowed the room ah hour earlier for free so we could go exploring and make use of our half a day. Leaving our luggage safe. Complimentary bottled water left for us in our room. Fab Full English breakfast that l had paid for on booking the room. Friendly professional staff. Most areas well kept and tidy. Beautiful old building, the oldest hotel in Portsmouth. Help yourself to fruit, toast, tea coffee at the buffet breakfast.

Room had small window but a sea view. (The nature of the building.) Had to ask for a hairdryer. Only shower gel soap in dispenser over bath. No hand soap left out until 2nd day. Dusty on top of the wardrobe ( should have put our case up there but too dirty).

On our visits to Portsmouth we always stay here and have done for many years ! It speaks for itself , comfy clean rooms , polite staff, good breakfast and great locality . Would defo recommend 👍

I liked the overall ambience, very relaxed, informal and friendly. Not in your face asking if you need anything but there if you did. Very haunting decor, like it.

Its proximity to the Portsmouth Harbor railway station, the bus stand, and the ferry to the Isle of Wight. And that it was air conditioned and fans were provided. I arrived during a heat wave and it felt wonderful to have a cool room. The breakfast was really good and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

There are steps to front entry and steps to the elevator. Not easy with luggage. The room service is a bit lackadaisical- no signs of anything really being done.

Bardzo dobra lokalizacja, obok dworca autobusowego i kolejowego, przystanek autobusu do miasta znajduje się przed hotelem, Idealne miejsce na zwiedzanie i krótki pobyt. Pokój rodzinny to dwa osobne pokoje z telewizorami. Jest klimatyzacja i dodatkowy wentylator. Łazienka z prysznicem jest czysta. Bardzo dobre białe ręczniki. Łózko bardzo wygodne. Zestaw do zrobienia kawy/herbaty/ czekolady był miłym dodatkiem. Śniadanie nie było wymyślne, ale zupełnie wystarczające. Nie korzystałam z restauracji, ale dobrze, że ona jest na miejscu. Bez problemu można zostawić bagaż przed i po. Bardzo miła obsługa.

Wyposażenie pokoju jest skromne ale wystarczające, jednak niewielkie prace odnowieniowe (podrapane meble) zrobiłyby dużą różnicę. Nie do przyjęcia było bardzo brudne tapicerowane krzesło, na którym bałam się usiąść bezpośrednio. Wyprana tapicerka odmieniłaby wygląd całego pokoju. Wszelkie plamy na ścianie również na tym etapie można by po prostu umyć.

The location is exceptional, the building is lovely, the room was large, the bathroom was pretty much perfect, the air conditioning was a lifesaver.

The beds are a little soft and the elevator is necessarily small.

I like the location and the cleanliness.

I got parking ticket dispite parking where told to. Room and bed were v small not big enough for two people. Room dated and taty, breakfast was poor so much so we didn’t have it dispite having paid for it on The second morning

Le petit déjeuner est cheap. Les viennoiseries sont en quantité limité pour ne pas trop en prendre. Pas d’expresso possible. La présentation des céréales dans des boites plastiques n’est pas digne d’un hôtel facturé à ce prix là. La climatisation était ko et on était en pleine canicule. Les rangements dans la chambre sont inexistants. Le bar ne donne pas envie d’y rester. Dommage c’était la coupe du monde. L’entrée et l’accueil n’accueillent pas du tout. J’ai payé le même prix à l’hôtel Leonardo à Plymouth et on est dans un autre monde.

Excellent location, central to shopping centre, train and coach station, taxis and a short walk to city centre. Lovely bar and restaurant. The bar area has an interesting selection of books and drinks, of course!! 😀

The rooms are missing hairdryers. Possibly these are at the reception, but it was not mentioned at the checking in and when needed in a hurry it would be great to either know about it straight away or, better yet, have one in the room.

It’s a bit weird, like the rooms have furniture that we put on the bonfire in the 70’s. You have a bedside table but only on one side of the bed. The bathroom was a good size but again strange, so when you get out the shower there’s nowhere for a towel not even a hook. The shower itself was a walk in and there was some empty bottle of shower gel that had probably been there ever since the bathroom had been updated. The plastic seal on the bottom of shower door hadn’t ever been cleaned. My wife wanted to go to Asda and get some Cillit bang and clean it (she hates filth). All that said if you’re looking for a base and can put up certain levels of weirdness go for it

It was a in a great location opposite the train and bus station! We didn't have far to carry the suitcase! It was very hot the few days we were there, but our room, which was spacious, had air conditioning which was brilliant!! The Breakfasts were delicious and cooked to order! It was in a great location for everything! We also had a trip by hovercraft to the Isle of Wight!

The only thing we didn't like was the mattress on the bed, it was a bit too soft for us!
